TERRIBLE NEWS FOR THE VANCOUVER CANUCKS: NILS HOGLANDER OUT FOR 8-10 WEEKS

[Music] You got to be kidding me. It’s a dark, gloomy, cold, rainy, wet day here in Vancouver. And now we get this news. Oy. I thought it’d be a little bit easier than this, but no. GM Patrick Aline announced today that Vancouver Connects forward Neils Hoglander underwent successful lower body surgery and he’s now out 8 to 10 weeks. Oh. Oh my goodness. Everybody was talking about Okay, Chris Tanv a few years ago had a high ankle sprain and that resulted in him being out for months. But Hoglander no Hoglander’s got a normal ankle sprain. He’s not going to miss a lot of time. Well, guess what? He gets surgery today. 8 to 10 weeks. That’s a lot of time. That’s a minimum of two months. And with this in mind, I think the Vancouver Conucks have no choice but to give some of their younger guys more opportunities to stick around. Patrick Aline and Jim Rutherford, they kind of have their jobs cut out for them. We spoke about this earlier in today’s show, but Jim Rutherford said in the 100% hockey podcast, there are realistically three spots up for grabs in the Vancouver Conucks forward core. We already knew that the fourth line left wing spot was probably up for grabs. Now Neil’s Hoglander spot is up for grabs. And then there’s Connor Garland spot too. So that’s three spots essentially that young guys Braden Coots or Leramaki or anybody else could realistically take over and take control of heading into the start of this season. And so as long as guys like Braden Coots and Laramaki continue to produce and they continue to show off well, we might be poised to seeing some of these guys take the next step and become Vancouver Conucks. For what it’s worth, Rutherford also said in the podcast earlier today that they need to evaluate Braden Coots and decide whether or not nine games is appropriate for him to start out his NHL career this season. No shade on the guy if he doesn’t end up getting it. I mean, he’s been good enough in the preseason that he can’t really go wrong either way. But in the short term, Vancouver might need themselves some extra forward support now that Hoglander is out. And obviously this sucks so much for Hoglander when you consider the injury that he sustained, the fact that it happened in a preeason game against the Calgary Flames, the fact that he was seen in a walking boot after the game there and now he’s going to be out for a minimum of two months. Like he was looking so good to open things up in the preseason and now he’s not going to be available till December. That is an absolute killer. And I think for a lot of Vancouver Conucks fans who are expecting Hoglander to bounce back and to actually have a season worth talking about to justify keeping him in the roster over a guy like Vasil Pog Coulson for example, this is just such a blow and I think it’s even more bad news in an already gloomy Vancouver Monday afternoon. So with that in mind, let me know your thoughts in the comment section below about this quick update. Neils Hoglander gets hurt and suffers a long 10-year injury that’s going to take up to 10 weeks to recover. Hopefully, it’s a little less than that, but knowing the Vancouver Conucks health staff, I’m not too sure we can fully trust it. Maybe it’s even more than 10 weeks. I wouldn’t be surprised if this guy doesn’t play a game until the new year. Of course, knock on wood, he does recover in time and he does come back sometime around the start of December, 8 weeks later. But let me know your thoughts in the comments section below. Who do you think should fill in the Hoglander minutes for now? What does that third line look like? It was supposed to be Hoglander with Sherwood and Anatu Ratu, but now who do you think steps in there? A Carlson, a Baines, a Varamaki? Do you even think about Laramaki in the top six because of what had transpired in the preseason? Let me know your thoughts in the comment section below. I hope you enjoyed this roll and bye.
