[FULL CELEBRATION] Seattle Mariners clinch playoff berth, 1-game to clinch AL West | MLB Network

Well, you know, a good good look at Santa as well. That’s that’s a real deal right there to uh anybody got some freze to piggy back on what Angie was saying, how much this lineup changed and you knew it would when the Mariners went out and they got Josh Naylor and they got a Yuanio Suarez. That moved Aros Arena into the leadoff spot. And the Mariners in September, if you wonder, hey, how have they done this, right? How have they won 15 of their last 16? How did they win 10 in a row to vault themselves into this position right now? Well, they’ve done everything great in the month of September. The pitching has been one of the very best in almost every relative category. The offense has been one of the very best in every category. And along the lines of the pitching and a guy who has carried the mail all season long, Angie down at the dugout with Brian Woo. edge. All right, Brian. Uh, I imagine a game like this makes you feel a little bit better, doesn’t it? Yeah. Better than helps. This definitely helps. Got to keep going, though. Really proud of this group, but we got we got a lot of work to do. Just tell me about what it feels like to be a part of this tonight. It’s special. I think uh the last couple years, I think, especially with this group. um you know how much it hurt missing the playoffs and um you know that stings over the last couple years and have to sit with that um over the last you know two off seasons. So um this was a a determined group for sure and you know glad we’re able to take a step in the right direction tonight. That’s the thing is like you look at tonight’s win and the way you guys were able to win. I mean you guys it seemed so completely unfased at this point. Yeah. I mean I think that’s just the the result of the trust that we have in this locker room. I feel like um you know, not only is it a bunch of really good ball players, but it’s a bunch of really good people and um you know, I love each and every one of these guys and it’s been so much fun to to go to war with them every night. Brian, thank you so much. And by the way, okay, how are we feeling? Give us a little update. Feeling good. Feeling good. Yeah, just taking it one day at a time, but um I’m confident we’ll be we’ll be ready to go when the time matters. So, awesome. Thank you, Brian. Your champagne laden injury update there from Brian Woo. It’s good to hear things. Everything feels good, Aaron. Yeah, especially right now. Great news to report from West Sacramento. The A’s beat the Astros 5 to one. The Mariners magic number is now one. They can clinch an American League West title with a victory tomorrow or an Astros loss once again. But sure, they would prefer to win it on their own terms. If they win game two tomorrow, they will win their first division title since 2001. And you know, Brad, one of the things I was hoping would not happen, and the Mariners can avoid this happening, is you never want to be in a position where you win the division when you’re in the clubhouse, right? You want to you want to win it on the field by what you do. Now, any team will take a division title anyway they can get it. But if you could choose one way or the other, you’d rather win tomorrow and celebrate right away. Gab’s a pro, apparently. Just getting warmed up for tomorrow. A little bit of a show off there. But you’re right. You don’t want to even if they were to lose and get in. I mean, that’s still okay because obviously, you know, they deserved it. But yeah, you’re right. You want to win it and you want to just be able to celebrate right away right on the field with the fans. And Gabe just Yeah, he’s just not going to stop, I don’t think. Now we know what his off seasons are like. Exactly. So do this all over again tomorrow. 100%. Again, this is just a 50%. You know, I What do you think? I do feel like this is a pretty good scouting report on a 50% postseason celebration. What do you think? I agree. I’ve been in the ones uh when they back in 22 they clinched it here. They clenched it uh when they beat Toronto in Toronto and that was that was 110%. So yeah, this is about a 50%. Guys are, you know, kind of calm and kind of winding down right now. Yeah, when they win the division tomorrow, that’s going to be all in. That’s going to be um a a lot lot more uh lot more popping bottles and cans, I do believe. Yeah, this is more of a social right now. Let’s go back down to the clubhouse. Back to Angie. All right, Kel. Sorry to break up your celebration here. Just tell us your thoughts right now as they’re beat. They’ll be the beat. They’re beetle. I mean, just you know, happy, you know, very happy for this group in here. You know, we worked hard all year. It’s uh, you know, the last two years have been very disappointing coming so close and and not coming through. So to see this group, you know, get over that mountain as far as getting into the bow season is nice and it’s very satisfying, but at the same time, we’re still hungry for more and we know that, you know, we got a good group here that we want to keep going and get to the World Series and win it. Cal, this kind of started back in spring training when the team wanted to sign you long term and this is what you talked about that the franchise was going to be in a position to do exactly this and now you’re here. Yeah, I mean, you know, this is the conver sorry, this is the conversations, you know, I’ve I had with Jerry and Justin and and John and, you know, talking with him and, you know, I uh I’ve obviously, you know, seen good things here, I’ve seen bad things, but uh you know, the plan’s been, you know, executed this year and, you know, it’s been it’s been a great group. But I love these guys, love this organization, love this city, and um you know, like I said, it’s it’s very satisfying after those last two years to getting back to here. And um you know, good things happen, you know, when uh you play good ball and you know, this what this group has done. Kell, it it just seems like you couldn’t write what we have seen unfold for you, for this team, the way it continues to do things. Have you been able to sort of on a night like this take it all in? Yeah, I mean it’s just, you know, I’m going to enjoy tonight to the most of my ability. Uh, you know, we still got work to do, but, you know, you never know when you’re going to get this opportunity again. So, it’s, uh, it’s fun. And we planned on doing this a long time. And, uh, you know, baseball is such a long season. You know, when you get that when when you get that opportunity, you got to take advantage of it. Thanks, Cal. Appreciate it. Thank you. Cal Raleigh. Boy, a special shout out by the way to Brett Webb and Nick Prescott who are running the cameras for us down there in the clubhouse. They uh are defenseless as many others are also. Mariners are celebrating. They have clinched a postseason birth. They are going back to the playoffs for the first time since 2022 since they broke that two decadel long playoff drought. Now the Mariners are one win away from winning their first division title since 2001. And I think Eron, my favorite quote from Cal just now, I’m going to celebrate to the most of my ability. Like he’s done everything else. Exactly. So, it’s going to be it’s going to be really good. As as we know, we’ve seen it be good all season long. Well, Julio standing by alongside Angie. All right, Julio. I I need a pair of those glasses right now. Are are my eyes stinging? Are your eyes stinging as bad as my eyes are stinging? Yeah. No, mine will definitely do it. Especially at the beginning, I didn’t had it as tight as I should have and was leaking through. So, but it’s okay. Tell me about tonight. Tell me about this team and and what they continue to be able to do this season. I mean, it was awesome. You know, it was awesome. And, you know, we have such a special team. You know, everybody really rallies for each other and to be able to be here with this whole group. It it means the world to me. I know it means the world to the city of Seattle and to all the fans that been always supporting us and you know I I’m just so grateful. You know, I am so grateful that we’re back in it and you know, we have a really good team that we can do something special uh in the postseason. And Julio, you think about the fact that you’ve been here the last couple of years and just being so close and and missing it and and how different this year seems to be with everything falling into place. Well, I just feel like those those years definitely serve it purpose, you know. It definitely serve it purpose in the way of like, you know, getting us more hungry for it, you know, and like I think that’s why we went this year. Like we’re we’re a little bit more of an edge. And as Randy, but you know, just I just feel like, you know, it’s awesome to be in a position where we dominate our our future. you know, we’re now like clinching for the postseason and, you know, we’re definitely looking for more uh for the remaining of the few games, but it is it’s a so much better spot. You bring up a really good point. I know this is just the first goal. There’s more to do. How important is it to get that first round by for this team? I mean, it’s huge. You know, you want to be in the best position you can as a team. And I feel like, you know, giving giving the guys some days of rest or like some days of rest, I feel like it’s going to get everybody in a better spot, you know. Uh oh. Behind you. Oh yeah, thank you so much. Appreciate it. You’re welcome. Oh yeah. Oh. And we got the gun show out here. Pete Woodworth, Mariners pitching coach. Sam Reinardson, one of the Mariners advanced scouts. Rolling into place. Heading out to the bullpen. What do we got here, Brad? Those guys made it out to the pen and I believe they’re walking around the pen celebrating with some of the fans out here. Christopher Negron out there as well, third base coach. He’s got his arm sweatb bands on. Okay. I don’t think that vest is particularly flattering on Christopher Negrron. It can’t be his. That’s the wrong size. A very fit man. I That is not what I would want to be wearing right now. Yeah, they’re out there in the pen right now kind of celebrating with fans out there. Just three dudes getting ready to have a good time. All right, back inside the clubhouse, Ryan and Jerry. Massive congratulations. Still, we still got a little bit of work to do, but how’s this feel? It’s pretty unbelievable. You know, we’re on the verge of doing something we haven’t done in a couple of decades, and this is a team that has the talent and the will and right now the focus to go do something that no team in Seattle has ever done before. We went back to this off season, spring training, talking about can the, you know, pitching repeat what they did last year? how do you, you know, correct the the the offense, you know, and then all of a sudden you get to this place where you get to the trade deadline and you make these big moves. So, with all that being said, have you had a chance to reflect at all? You know, I I don’t know. Reflection, I guess, will come after the season’s over and hopefully that’s not for a few wins yet. But, you know, adding Gino, adding Josh, adding Ferg at the deadline, you know, the the way our offense rose up really all year long, the rebound season for Polo, the breakout season for Dom, just such a so many different people contributing. And then here in the last three or four weeks, our starting pitching really get rolling the way they do and and if that happens when we get into short series, we’re going to be dangerous. Has it has it dawned on you the fact this team since 2001 putting that that banner up for the a I know there’s plenty of work to do 100%. But the American League West division is in your sights now. Oh, we the the plan is to pop more champagne in the next day or two. So, you know, we knew that was the goal coming in for this team and and was to win the division, go to the postseason, and then just let our talent play. And and right now, like I said, for the last three, four weeks, the focus has been insane. These guys have just played their butts off and couldn’t be more proud. One last thing, we thought this was going to be a 50%, you know, celebration right now until you get the So, what what is what’s the celebration going to look like in there? You know, I I I think I was told, you know, the plan is we’re just going to, you know, toast the the the playoff clinch and and then we’ll worry about the division. I can’t wait to see what tomorrow or Wednesday look like or to Thursday look like. We can’t. We can’t either. Congratulations, Jerry. Thanks. I appreciate awesome. Very cool. I guess Hyphen and Angie drew straws for who would be in the clubhouse and who would be out. Hyphen’s looking pretty dry and comfortable. We take you back inside the clubhouse once again to Angie. How about that? How about that? Your friend, you know, just making sure that need him. I think we might need him. So, you said you’d hurt him if you could, but you won’t. That’s right. We might need him down the stretch. I I think you’re right about that. Please don’t hurt him. Nobody get hurt tonight. Um just uh give me your thoughts on tonight as you watch the team in front of you celebrate tonight’s victory and getting back to the postseason. Yeah, it’s awesome. I mean, we got a lot more in front of us obviously, but to actually be in it, clinch it the way that we did it too with nails getting him at the deadline, I just feel like just everything kind of connected tonight. And that’s the thing when you look at this season, this team has been so resilient time after time. We have seen that with the team and and even tonight when they were down, it seems like it’s just a matter of time before they’re going to come through. Yeah, I mean that’s when we’re at our best winning the one run games. Um the bullpen’s lights out, getting the big hit when we need it, having the starters doing what they’re doing. I feel like I feel like we’re one of the most complete teams in baseball right now. So, I think we got a good chance. Tell me about this starting rotation because I feel like it’s like no other in baseball. You guys are so close. You guys share so much and it’s made this group so much better. Yeah, it’s great. I mean, we’re just bouncing off each other. Um, obviously Woo is having an unbelievable year and kind of setting the tone out there. What Bryce is doing now, it’s great to have him back out there. Louisie being the vet. Just everybody curbs pitching his best right now, probably the last few starts. So, that’s great to see going into the playoffs. I feel like feel like we got the arms to do it. Okay, Kell was here for the beginning of this interview. He’s gone now. Now you can say nice things about him. Um, just how how clutch has he been all season long? How huge has he been? How much of a centerpiece of this team is he? Yeah, I mean, you can’t put it in words. People see what he does on the field. And we we tell you guys the leader that he is, all that kind of stuff. But it’s that and 10 times more. Um, the way he leads the guys, gets us going, working the pitchers, calling pitches, he gets banged up more than anybody, doesn’t say a word. So, um, yeah, he’s we’re very very lucky lucky to have him. And I mean, hail MVP, right? To you, from your uh lips to to God’s ears. Thank you very much. Appreciate it. Yeah. Thank you. All the reaction inside the Mariners clubhouse as the Mariners get a come from behind win tonight and they punch their ticket to the playoffs. This game in the middle of that, Adam Ray, how’d he get in there? Does he have a wristband? He loves it. Favorite local comedian, no doubt about that. Big cheer out here in the pen. A bunch of Mariners employees out here complete with bottles of their own. I like that. Brad Adam out here uh in the pen enjoying this one with the employees and the fans. So, uh very excited about this. The 50% celebration still going on inside that clubhouse. Things t tamed down just a little bit, but still going. Angie still in there with tonight’s starting pitcher, Mr. Bryce Miller. Okay, Bryce, first I I have to ask you um how’s your backside? It’s been better, but uh we’re having fun. So, I’m I don’t feel it right now. Tomorrow, though, I’m sure I’ll feel it. Um All right. As far as tonight’s game, it just seems so indicative of what we’ve seen from this team all season long. Just finding a way to get it done. Yeah, for sure. Um this team, we don’t we don’t give up. Um, anytime we’re down, like I believe in the offense to get us back in it. As long as, you know, just keep putting up zeros, keep us in it. I know the offense is going to come around and, um, I’m glad we got Naylor at the deadlines cuz, uh, it worked out tonight. How good is that guy? I mean, and just the way I’m sure, you know, you see it from the inside how this guy just studies what teams are trying to do to him and and how he can get the edge. Yeah, for sure. He’s a he’s a great guy to have around. Good guy in the clubhouse. a very mature hitter. Um I’m I’m glad we have him. Uh it’s better better to have him than to be pitching against him and um so yeah, we need it. We need we need him next year, too. So, uh we got to start working on that. And describe this team for me, if you will, this group of guys. Uh it’s it’s it’s a fun clubhouse. We have a lot of fun. Uh we believe in each other and we never give up and uh we got we got a lot of work ahead a lot of work to do ahead of us and uh a lot of fun to have. So, we’re excited. All right. You keep having fun tonight. All right. Thank you. Yeah, he is feeling no pain tonight. Kind of like Brian Woo enjoying themselves in there, enjoying this 4-3 win, which gets them back to the postseason for the first time since 2022. Yeah. Uh we know that Ryan Roland Smith is is in kind of the clubhouse, but I think he’s on the peripher peripheral because he’s not really getting wet like Angie is. Here is Mr. Ryan talking with George Kirby who is wet. All right, George Kirby, first of all, man, congratulations. This was huge. How is this different to 2022? Oh, man. I don’t know. It I mean, anytime you get to playoffs, it’s really exciting. Um, but I think, you know, just being able to take care of Houston this last couple games and then, um, I I don’t know. I don’t know, to be honest. It’s awesome anyways to be in the playoffs, so I’m I’m freaking ecstatic. Well, I I mean, you you’re a couple years obviously removed from that. You’re a young pitcher. You had a young core of players. You guys have all kind of grown up and you’ve gotten to this spot. There’s been, you know, Cal’s been very vocal about the last couple of years and, you know, you guys all of a sudden you make some big moves at the deadline to get to this place and you personally have a situation. You come off the IIL, you try and find your way. You had that massive outing in Houston. So, that’s got to be feeling pretty good, right? Yeah. I mean, we all everyone contributed these last couple weeks kind of after little bad uh road trip, but I mean I think the most important thing is I think we’ve been doing, you know, we just doing one game at a time, not kind of looking at the whole picture. Um I feel like we’ve gotten into that before and um guys right now are just you’re coming in the ballpark every day, you know, one game at a time, everyone’s getting ready, everyone’s doing their job and um you know, that’s what happens when you kind of, you know, all come together. So, we were told this was supposed to be around a 50% celebration, right? Because you haven’t got the the the the division the uh the division just yet. What’s that going to look like when you finally get the ALO West? Man, it’s going to be exciting. It’ll be a lot better than this. Um but yeah, I mean, right now just a blessing to get to the playoffs and then, you know, hopefully we can keep it going and then, you know, win the West and that’ll be a big deal. So, um but yeah, we we still got to keep going. So, we’re all we’re all hungry. George, congratulations, man. Very cool. Awesome. All right, George Kirby, his second playoff appearance and I just checked to make sure that Luis Castillo is scheduled to start tomorrow. So hopefully Luis is leaving that 50% party because he’s got a game to pitch. They’ve got another game of course to win tomorrow. The magic number down to one. One more win. I’m going to keep this short tonight because we got more celebrating to do in a few days. But listen, outstanding job. Everybody in this room, a tremendous amount of gratitude for all the hard work that’s gone into this thing. All season long, you guys have worked your tails off. Everybody in here, we talked about in spring training. It’s a journey up the mountain. We’re now one of those teams that earns the privilege to finish the course all the way to the top, boys. And it starts tomorrow. Let’s go. That is awesome. Our local Ford dealer key to the game, Dan, popping some champagne as he tells the team, “Hey, we’re in. We’re in the tournament. Still work to be done. We’re still not quite to the top of that mountain, but we’re getting close.” So, a really cool moment for Dan and of course his team. First full season as manager. Remember last year fell just a game short and he came in to take over. immediately improved the team, the clubhouse, the culture, uh, and they just carries over this year. Such a good team and a team focus right now. We’ve got more interviews for you. How about Dom Kzone, who got the Mariners on the board, the home run, his 11th in the fifth inning. He’s standing by with our hyphen. It’s our postgame interview brought to you by Emerald Queen Casino. All right, I am here with Dominic Hanzone. First of all, massive congratulations. Look, man, you came up big, tied the game up. You’ve been coming up big all month of September. What has been different for you since coming back from Triple A? Uh I’ve kind of harped on it before, but uh just again being healthy has been huge for me. Uh that’s been a little bit of trouble in the past, but obviously just the hitting coaches changing my approach up a little bit. Mag sights and uh Edgar just staying in the middle of the field and trying to keep it as simple as possible, not trying to hit homers. So uh that just keeping as simple as possible for me has been absolutely ginormous. The other part of this is to with Don with you coming up you know this year in spring training you know it was a situation when you when you looked at the way the roster kind of shaped up you’re looking you’re the outside looking in and here you are playing a huge part having huge at bats you were massive in Kansas City home run tonight big series all over the play big series big road trip for you is this is there a personal you know you for you personal feeling of being here popping champagne and some of the things that you’ve gone through this year having to grind it out in Triple A, get back and play a major role. Is is there a personal little, you know, thing for you here as well? I mean, for sure. But, uh, baseball is a very humbling sport and, uh, you get humbled for a year and, uh, you got to find your way out of it. So, uh, you just got to believe in yourself and that was the biggest thing for me is just knowing that I can do it, getting back healthy and just, uh, doing what I can. How good is this going to be for this group when you win that American League division? Whether it’s next couple days, how are you guys going to celebrate in here? Hopefully the same way. I mean, you going to get bigger or what? Oh, yeah. Hopefully hopefully it gets even nastier. So, uh I’m pretty excited and I love where we’re at. Dom appreci I appreciate it, man. Congratulations, man. Awesome. Good job. I like that little nastier. It’ll be bigger and better the celebration when they win the AL West again as soon as tomorrow could be because again the magic number with the Astros losing in Sacramento down to just one to get that division title which is fantastic. All right, Gabe, I had to pull you away from your family and I apologize. I mean, but how how special is this for you and for your family? It’s amazing. I mean, I’ve never been to the playoffs before to clinch, you know, this playoff birth. It’s super special. Um, you know, I haven’t been, so I don’t know what to to expect, but this team um, I love them and, uh, let’s keep it going. Well, you’ve definitely earned it, man. From last year, from 2023 having a breakout year. Last year, you deal with some injuries. Uh, and then this year, I’m not going to call it a breakout, but you I’m not going to call it a comeback or anything like that, but you have been a staple. This bullpen, that group out in left center field coming in for some of these games have really been the difference. What is it about that unit all season long? We’re talking six months that stand out to you. Yeah, I mean it’s just a it’s a resilient group and uh this year’s been a lot of fun and uh I just can’t wait for the playoffs, man. It’s just so exciting and uh this bullpen like you said, I mean, we’re just a tight group and you know, we’re just going to continue to do what what we uh what we need to do. I want to go back to that at bat you had against Christian Walker. You come in, they pinch hit, load of bases. We know the Astros can flip flip a switch and start putting runs up in that building. What was going on? What was going on in your mind? Cuz you just went three straight heaters. You know, that’s um the highest adrenaline situation I’ve been in in my career. And to be honest, dude, I was just floating out there with adrenaline, the moment, and uh you know, Cal called the heaters and I just threw them as hard as I could and they they went where they needed to went and uh needed to go and u it worked out. Honestly, I was just um just playing off um adrenaline at that moment and and uh just throwing it as hard as I can. Have you have you been picturing this in your head the last couple of months or maybe longer than that? I mean, yeah. I mean, it’s um obviously two road trips ago, we were kind of in a skid and but these last two weeks have been amazing and it’s just it just shows what this team can do and and it’s a really exciting day. Well, Gabe, congratulations, man. You’ve earned I’ll let that give back to your family. Yes. Thank you.
