At the Los Angeles Clippers Media Day, NBA Star and brand ambassador extraordinaire Kawhi Leonard admits to wrongdoing via the English language classic double negative

  1. A “double negative dialect” refers to dialects, such as African American Vernacular English (AAVE) and Appalachian English, where using two negative words in a sentence intensifies the meaning rather than cancelling it out to create a positive, a contrast to standard English rules. This linguistic feature, also known as negative concord, is common in other languages and is often considered nonstandard or incorrect in formal English, despite being a widespread and logical part of certain English vernaculars.

  2. Dialectal difference…double negative is a common feature of AAVE/BVE (African American/Black Vernacular English). Also a common feature of other languages such as French.

  3. 900 upvotes for “hur hur AAVE”

Fuck Ballmer, to a lesser extent, fuck Kawhi if hes been sandbagging, but this post is stupid as hell even by off-season standards

  4. Isn’t that just a feature of AAVE? The use of double negatives is to emphasize not to cancel out

  5. Half these comments just need to go get 1 singular black friend, very common AAVE grammar and yall know what he means

  6. That’s why it’s important to use the word “ain’t”. Throw an “ain’t” in front of that and you’re good. “Ain’t none of us did no wrongdoing.”

  7. This is the whitest thing I’ll say this week, but AAVE negation rules are much different than Standard American English

  8. It’s a triple negative. “None”, “no”, “wrong-“.
So none did doing. No one did anything.

  9. Damn, Kawhi Leonard reputation is going down the sewer. Winning a championship in Toronto kind of fixed his reputation during the Spurs fiasco but damn….I feel like all 29 teams are going really boo/shit-on Kawhi Leonard this season and for the foreseeable future. Steve Ballmer is also losing alot of credibility and reputation too, after previously looking like one of the ‘good/fun’ owners!
