Green says they want to be a defense-first team, but offseason and late-game rotations have told a different story. With offense-oriented additions like Poole and Bey, injuries to Murray, and Zion’s inconsistency, the team’s defensive identity feels shaky at best.

Unless Herbert Jones, Alvarado, and Looney can anchor things, Green will be the one held accountable and probably fired.

No telling how this pans out… Just because Zion is back in shape doesn’t mean he’s gonna stay that way.

  1. I think our starting line-up will he fine. Herb is just that good that he makes everyone better, and Willie is pretty good at getting guys to buy in on defence.

But gone are the days of having Dyson, Naji and Larry coming off the bench and providing that impact. Going to be a big issue for sure.

  2. I would like to see Trey and Missi take a step forward on defense. I think Missi will. He’s got the athleticism, just not the experience. Zion being in shape gives me hope that he can produce some of those Duke-era blocks that go to the stands. But honestly, not a terrible observation that Willie is a defense first coach, and we only brought in offense first players this offseason.
