Hey everyone, welcome to Kempner Kucks. My name is Rev Trev and today we’re diving back into the series regarding Kuck concerns. There’s there’s a lot of positive things to talk about. There’s a lot of things to discuss. And tonight we’re going to go into Kuck concerns. And tonight we’re talking about chemistry and how important that is. We’re going to talk about chemistry at multiple levels and uh I I I got some push back that I got to share with you and hope that you’re doing well. Glad to see you. By the way, you’re probably watching this tonight, the night before truth and reconciliation day and uh or you’re watching us tomorrow on that day and we want to take a moment to remember the survivors of the residential schools and all the difficult things that our indigenous people have walked through. So, we want to think about you. we honor you today. And um yeah, so that we just just just want to take a moment to pause and to think about that. Um let’s hit the promo and we’re going to dive into it. Uh so glad that you’re here. [Music] All right, so let’s dive into this important concern because the Canucks, we’ve already talked about how the Canucks um uh what did I what did I use the first one? The first one was scoring. The Canucks concerned with scoring and that is an absolute important one to remember to think about. And then we also have uh chemistry. Now so many people have tried to tell me Rev Trev preseason doesn’t matter and I get it right. So I’m going to go back and say this and let me I’m going to explain. Um, people are going to freak out when I say this, okay? Preseason does matter. Okay, it does matter. Now, where it doesn’t matter is if you win or lose a game. The standings reset after the six games and we’re totally fine. Okay, we’re totally fine after the six games. But here’s the thing. Here’s the important piece to it. Okay, it matters about building chemistry. It matters to the young prospects that they get to play. They’re trying to make the team. Everyone, all these people who come into my comments over and over and over again and say preseason doesn’t matter. Uh, you lose all credibility when you get so fired up about preseason. It’s like, really? Are you kidding me? You don’t think that Braden Coots is not fired up to play in front of crowds? uh wearing the Canucks jersey trying to make this team. You don’t think that matters? You don’t think it matters trying to figure out what our top line is in regards to De Brusk Patterson and Besser or is there someone else that should be on there? Who’s Heedle playing with? The chemistry is absolutely important and crucial. Those defensive lines now we got the Hughes and Heronic one, but they might want to split it up. They might want to put Heronic on the second line and then have someone else play with with Quinn Hughes. Like the chemistry building is absolutely important. So preseason does matter. So as we look at these lines, as we consider what’s going on, we’re going to dive in to these different lines that are that are happening. And it’s it’s quite interesting if you ask me. It’s quite interesting if you ask me. Now, I think I just So, so the other night, I’ll just show you right here. I’m going to throw this right into the chat here. Um, this was the line from against the Oilers. By the way, another thing is, um, you know, I I’ve been trashing the the Calgary Flames. It’s been so much fun. Honestly, been so much fun. But it’s like we smoked them. They didn’t even come close enough. You beat our AHL team. Guess what? We had a half of our team was AHL team as well. And then they’re like, they come into my comments and they’re like, oh my goodness. Uh, how did your next game go? And it’s like, well, we lost four to the Oilers. We didn’t play our top line, our top pairing of defenseman, and we lost four to three against McDavid and Tricidle. Just saying. Just saying. Like that game doesn’t matter if you win or lose. It’s like a onegoal loss to that. I mean, we were in Edmonton and they were playing their big stars before the season started and just because I mean people paid good money for you to go there. You’re going to go play McDavid and Dryell. That’s great for the Edmonton Oiler fans. Just like when the only the the playoff game or not playoffs, sorry, preseason game that was in Vancouver, we brought the big boys out. You know, you you had Hughes and Heronic together. You had De Brusk, Patterson, and um Besser. You had Kane playing on that second line that there was a lot to play for. Okay. So, this idea like it’s almost like people don’t understand hockey enough to know that preeason doesn’t. They say preseason doesn’t matter. It’s just too easy. By the way, oh, by the way, I been noticing I’m wearing my Packers hat. I’m a huge Green Bay Packers fan. Sucked that we tied. At least we tied against Cowboys. I meant to wear this one. This is what I meant to wear. So, um I I knew I had a black hat. I I I was a little late to the stream tonight and so I just wanted to make sure I was wearing the right hat. But hey, I mean, I still I wear my Packers stuff with pride. But this is my Kucks channel. If you want to follow my NFL stuff, Revruff NFL. I love making Packers content. and I love making NFL content, but I also love bashing the Bears. Just like in hockey, I love bashing the Calgary Flames. It’s fun. So, so let’s look at this line here. Okay. And I find this one really interesting because this could be a realistic line. A lot of people are saying, “Listen, Heedle is locked it in. He is he he looks fantastic. He’s on point. He is our second line center. We don’t we don’t need to find another guy.” It’s like, yeah, well, you know, he’s been injured, right? He’s been injured. So, here we are. We We have to have a plan B when it comes to Heedle cuz just the injuries have been so much and we don’t want him to be injured. But it’s going to be great. If he can play an injuryfree season, it’s going to be great. But who plays on his wings? Who plays on his wings? So, you got Baines, you got Carlson. That’s kind of a fun line to look at, right? But it’s either going to be De Brusk on the left hand side or it’s going to be Evander Kane. And does Keedle have what did I do? Keel does Heedle have good chemistry with uh Kain or De Brusk or Or maybe maybe this line here. Let me show you this line here. This one’s getting a lot of press and I don’t even think it’s going to be this line specifically that played last game, but it’s this one right here. It’s this one right here. Okconor Coots and Leer Mackey. This could be your second line. Okay. So, you have I mean the question is so we’re loaded at right. rightwing. We got we’ve got um we’ve got Besser, Garland, and then you either have Leer, Mackey, or Carlson on that side, plus Sherwood. We got We have five We have five right wingers that we could go with. It is going to be so interesting to see what actually happens. Who’s going to play up? Who’s going to play down? There’s all kinds of chemistry that we can talk about, right? And we know that Leer the thing about Leer Mackey that I’m pumped about and I know everyone wants to talk about Coots, okay? And and we will talk about Coots for sure. Like I haven’t checked the I haven’t checked in here uh our comments yet, but listen, Coots, everyone wants to talk about Let’s talk first of all about Leer Mackey because in my opinion, he’s got a better chance to make the the big show to play on the Canucks than Coots does. Leer Mackey. The thing about him, he’s got that dangerous shot and you saw it last night. The pass from Heedle across the side. You know what I mean? And he rifled it. That cra cross cross ice pass and he rifles it and scores against the Edmonton Oilers. Like I I’m just telling you right now, a lot of people think Leer Mackey, if we’re going to trade someone, he’s the odd man out, but I don’t think he is. I think he’s the odd man. No, he’s not odd man. He’s the guy that we’re like, “This is the kid we want to put in the lineup.” And then he’s basically battling with Carlson who was who is uh basically could have won MVP of the Caller Cup, but they gave to Sheiloffs. Okay. So, it’s Carlson versus Leer Mackey, everyone. And who’s got who’s got now they’ve been putting Coots and Lecker Mackey together. So, either Well, Coots is either playing in Vancouver or he’s playing in Seattle. I don’t think he’s going to Abbottzford. I don’t think he’s going to Abbottzford. So, this is where I can see the Vancouver Conucks going and putting this as their third line. This as their third line. and um and and so there’s there’s lots going on there. Oh, hey guys. Uh girls, I don’t know if you’ve heard this, but there is I’ve heard there’s some breaking news. There’s some breaking news. Let’s dive. [Music] [Applause] The breaking news is uh right here from Sensei Dean. A lot of people are talking about this. I’ve been getting messages all night on my phone that Hoglander has now been ruled out for I think it’s 8 to 10 weeks is the actual thing. So there is a spot that’s opened up and that is the breaking news. Um it’s unfortunate to see him but there are a lot of guys vying for those spots and so Holander is out and you don’t have to rush him because of that there. So, we’re we’re we’re in there. Um we’re in there. So, it it’s just so important to know that what can we do on that left hand side? There’s now there’s now Baines that’s available. Um there’s uh well, I mean, Leer Mackey can play left wing as well. That might be an interesting one. I just want to make sure I’m talking about. So, we have we have De Bruss Kane. Then you have Baines Leer Mackey and who else am I missing? Okconor is there. And I think that’s it. Lucker Mackey O’ Conor. Um if we go back down to the Abbasard side, Stillman is it Stillman can play left and right. Oh, uh, Kratz off. Maybe maybe they keep Kratz off. He can play left wing. So there’s there’s a lot of guys everyone that can play there. There’s a lot of guys. So um, so yeah, there there’s a lot to talk about, a lot to discuss. Okay. Absolutely lot to discuss. Um, just looking real quick. Real quick. So So this this is massive news, everyone. So people are saying Hogs is out for at least two months and you don’t have to rush him back because of all the guys we have. So Hogs is out and we need to make playoffs. I can see Vancouver trading him away. I do people want an injured player? I don’t know. So um moral victories do exist in the preseason. Absolutely. Can’t wait to face Edmonton in the regular season. I had someone come into my comments this this uh today and say he’s predicting that the Edmonton Oilers aren’t going to make the playoffs. Now, I’m not that bold. That’s not a bold take. That’s not just a bold take. That’s a super bold take. Super bold take that I am not willing to say. But if that happened, I mean, that is catastrophic because I doubt that McDavid’s coming back. I doubt that that he they would even they would have to trade him. They would have to trade him. So, I think that there’s the guys that have a legitimate chance of filling Holander spot is either Leer Mackey, it’s um Carlson, which I think he’s the right right right winger. So, we’ve got, if you go down the right side, you got Besser, Garland, and then I thought it was gonna be R Leer Macki, but it might be Carlson. Might be Carlson, everyone. That that’s something to consider. That’s really something to consider. So if that’s the case, then that then you can move Leer Mackey to the left and see what he can do. But that the chemistry between Coots and Leer Mackey is fun to watch. It’s absolutely fun to watch. Right. So I mean Sassin played on the left wing uh last game as well. Let’s bring up that as well. Um, so we we have Assassin, Ratu, and Sherwood. Uh, Ratu end up scoring last game against Edmonton. That was a nice shot. Beautiful shot actually. And uh, that that’s where we’re going. Now, a lot of people regarding back to the Coots thing. I know this is real quick. could jump back and because I don’t want to forget about this is that Coots Coots is just a special player, but he hasn’t had a great goal. They all count. I get it. But off the leg, off the you know what I mean? I want to see him snipe one. Kind of like kind of like what Ratu did last game. That’s what I want to see. I want to see if it The thing about Coots, though, is it looks like he can play. It looks like he belongs. So, do you take the time? Everyone was like, “No, develop them.” But but there’s got to be exceptions to the rule, right? And maybe this is the year. What if we put what? Okay. Okay. Just stick with me on this one. Okay. I I’m going I’m going to I’m going to blow your minds, guys, with what about this second line. Okay. Uh I I say possible. Okay. Dream second line. Okay. And this is what we’re going to do. Okay. Oh boy. I don’t know. I think you guys are going to like this. What if What if this is what it looked like? Oh my goodness. I’m sorry. I’m just writing it out right now. Just wait and see. Okay. What if this is the dream second line that you go put Heedel at the left with his speed, with his skill set, Coots in the center, and Leer Mackey on the right. Whoa. Mind blown. Mind blown. I think try it. Try it in the preseason. Just see what they can do. Okay, Coach Adam Foot, please just listen to this. Maybe I’ll clip this and I’ll tag you. I don’t even know. I I I agree that he’s not a true firstliner, but he had good chemistry with um with De Brusk. With De Brusk. Okay. Um Okay. So So what do you what do you think? Supreme Rando, you you’re thinking is De Brusk a first line guy? Just just you know that’s your honest take. JS says, “Coots will be our future. Looks like pro ready.” That’s that’s what a lot of people are seeing. Um, Supreme, I agree. I may have him as low as the third line. Okay. Okay. Second power play. Second or third line plus power play time. I’m I’m fine with that. Rev Trev, do you want $2 million in the press box? Yes. Yes, I do. Uh, closest. Yep. Yep. right now. That’s where I where I’m at. I I mean, okay, this is my opinion, Calvin. I don’t care about the money right now. What I care about is winning hockey games. And what do you guys think about this? The the the second C situation needs to be fixed in my opinion. Heedel, even if healthy, is not sustainable option for the second se in my opinion. I am I understand. I agree. I think most most Kuck fans would definitely definitely agree with you. Okay, so which one does it look better? Uh oh, no, not that one. That one or that one? It doesn’t move. It just moves the screen. Maybe this one’s better. So, what what do you guys think? What would you put? Please post it in that. Um, Pan says, “We’re short, good centers, and you’re putting our second 2.5C on the wing.” Oh, why not? It’s time to dream. I’d give that dream second line a try for sure. Why not? Why not? Heedle and Ratu were playing together a bit last game. And Ratu, Heedle, Leer, Macki, that’s fine as well. I like that. Um, dude, Forbert is not the guy. He is a fill in right now. I don’t care what it is. I literally don’t care what his um what he’s making. It doesn’t it doesn’t bother me. Anything under $2 million is uh interchangeable in my opinion. So, but Supreme says that I’m willing to give this entire lineup a try. Yeah, why not? Why not? So, put Thorbert on the third line on the left uh side. Put Manchini second line with MP3 and switch him with DPD and have Meyers with Forbert in my opinion. Oh, I think that’s I mean that’s you’re entitled to your opinion. So, so you want for here, you want Manchini there. Is that right? Let me say that. See that again? Many in second line with MP3. Switch in with DPD and have Meyers with forward. No. Well, what are you gonna do with Hughes? I don’t get it. I don’t get it. Your top line doesn’t have a speed guy. PD pending. I’d probably move to Brusk and Garland up there. Wow. But I know nothing. Okay. Okay. Yeah. Todd Person or Hoglanders out for at least 8 to 10 plus weeks. So, we’re talking two to three months. two to three months. Okay, Calvin, is this what you’re talking about here? Forward on the left hand side and Myers and Forbert. But okay, but Marcus, you would that means you would and put Manchini second line with MP3 and switch him with DPD. I don’t get it. That that doesn’t make sense. What happened to he got injured and it’s what is the injury? Is it was it an ank or a knee injury? Can’t remember. Trade to New Jersey. Kidding. No. Yeah. Like obviously we want to we want to get and and then Barkoff is out for nine 8 to nine months. Shop the AHL line. I love it. We do have good demen. Um, yeah, this is interesting. This is interesting. Yeah, I I don’t I don’t want forbert there. Uh, I want this here. I want this here. And so, you got you’ve got top four with a ton of a ton of experience, right? A ton of experience. And then you got this. So, if you’re worried about speed, you could also do this. You could do this. Um, for sure have the grit with the young guys and have Lucker Mackey with Person and Brezer, but you’re putting all your scoring on one line. So, unless you do something like this, this could be okay as well, you know. Hoglander apparently suffered a sprained ankle from game from the game versus Calgary. Yeah. Forward should have been let go. Yeah. I mean, but he’s there for depth in my opinion. Hey Trev, what’s your opinion from? Do you have an NHL teams for the waivers situation for Vancouver? Do you think they could pick up some people from on waiverss in your opinion? I think the only there’s only one guy who doesn’t make waivers and I think it’s um I think it’s Carlson is the only guy. Let me just see. I think this is the one group A. What does it say here? Yeah, I don’t think that he has he has one there. He’s either got to start in Abbottzford and get brought up, but he can’t go back down. I don’t think he once he goes up he can’t go back down. We could pick up people from waivers. We have cap flexibility but we all know Hogues had a lower body surgery. Two months will go by quick though. Yep, that’s true. We have good a good D without him. Are you talking about Forbert? You should switch Coots had Heedle around as well as I reckon. Okay, so you want Coots at the second line spot. Um, nothing is perfect as here. Is it time to try Hughes as a center? The answer is no. The answer is no. So Heedle switch coots Heedle around. Okay, let’s try that. Man, there there’s a lot of options here, everyone. There’s a lot of options. This this is honestly a lot of fun. This is a lot of fun because you could take like Ratu and throw him in here. You could probably What’s going to happen? Let’s Let’s I’ll just say what it probably thinks going to happen. Think Coots is out. He won’t be in the press box. Okay, everyone. So, just everyone stay calm for a second. You’re gonna go Heedle Ratu and Bluger. Where is he? Right here. This is what in my opinion the line’s going to look like. Something more like this. And this is going here. Or do we do this? Like look at that line. That’s pretty good line there too. 200 2 million 2.5 1.8 eight. You know, Ratu, as much as I like him, I mean, interesting player, that’s probably what the the lineup’s going to look like. But I think Kuck fans want this to happen right there. That’s what I think they want. And then Coots would be a non-roster player, you know. Uh because he’s going to be playing in Seattle, but let’s just put him in the press box. He’s he’s closer. I mean, you got Baines, right? You got Baines here. You got Orson. Uh I think he’s in Calabuzu. Think it goes like this. I don’t know. I Oh, Kratz off. Left wing, right wing, right wing. Yeah, let’s go here. Maybe this is it. Maybe this is it. I don’t know. I don’t know what this team looks like. Forbert here. This is probably what it’s going to look like in my opinion. We’re in good shape for a season. Touchwood. Okay. We would have to make more trades and I’m not sure it would be good. Sorry. Mint. You could switch coots and heat all around as well. Okay. Todd says deep end right off the bat. Sink or swim. Nine games. Ouch. Yeah, why not? We have a short second line with Leer Macki, Coots, and Garland. Yep. Yep. Or small. Not short, just short. Clem says, “I tend to see the Conucks having a lot of good problems.” I like that. Jieven says, “Cain, Pey, Sherwood.” Wow. De Brusk, Heedle, Besser. I don’t mind that. That’s pretty cool. O’ Connor Bluger, Garland, Leer, Mackey, Coots, and Carlson. It’s just hard when you have skilled players like Leer Macki, Coots, and Carlson as your fourth line shutdown line. So then Okconor, Bluger, and Garland would play a lot more minutes because they’d basically be your fourth line. Seattle all the way in my opinion. Yeah, Seattle Kraken. Are you talking about Seattle Mariners? rate. Ratu looks better on the wing. Uh, I’m not Maybe he does. I don’t know. Maybe he does. Um, just quickly looking Just looking at some of the stuff with with Hog Lander possibly out. I don’t mind Coots filling in. The problem is Hoglander plays left wing and Coots plays center. The heck is with the OT rules in the NFL? They’re awesome. They’re awesome. almost like the college rules, which the college rules are really good. Uh, I think they did pretty good considering the posts and the puck rolling on whoever it was right in front of the net. We could have had a couple goals if we buried those. I mean, what’s his chances? I still think they’re I still think they’re low. I’d say 30% chance he makes the team. Brian says, “Got here late. Bringing back a few minutes.” Okay. Yeah, I’m with you. I think I think Russell uh Leer Mackey gets the first look to fill Hoglander spot. That’s why I think that happens too. Let’s keep that there. Calvin says not a contender, but someone like Philly, Blackhawk, Sharks, Montreal, etc. That could be the trade partner. And trading Hog Glender right now would just be for a pick anyways in my opinion. Um, and he’s got three more years at 3 million in that contract. Yeah, Daniel, he’s out, man. He’s out. Kane plays both sides. Okay. I didn’t know he can play left, but we don’t. We need him in the left hand, not the right hand side, but that’s good to have depth, right? As much as I want to have Coots in the starting lineup this season, I I would be very careful to fasttrack his development. Yeah, I I I’m not really nervous about I don’t think it hurts him at this stage, but uh pretty good this weekend. My my football pool’s doing good. And then my hockey pools are coming up next. Heedel and Ratu were playing together a bit last game. Maybe Ratu, Heedle, and Leerak. Yeah, I like that. I like that a lot. Everyone complaining about a 4040 tie. I’m just saying at least it’s not a zero zero like that one Canuck game. Exactly. Exactly. I mean, it was entertaining, man. Packers, Cowboys. Like, who doesn’t want to see that? Hands. What the Oh my goodness. Look at this. Um, what is going on? There we are. Trade Manchini high for a proper second line center. Even though I love Heedle as soon as race to the bottom for McKenna starts. This is the way. Oh, that’s a bold take. Or could possibly do De Bras PD Sherwood and have Kane Heel and Besser. That’s fine, too. I like those both those. So Todd also likes the Kraken, but as for Coots here to start, I would be conservative. Okay. I think we’d have to package uh in Heedle for a trade in order to get a second line center. That’s possible, too. I reckon a lot will become clear in the next couple games, like regular season games or preseason games. I think you’re talking about preseason. I just sneezed. Whoa, that was crazy. Um, yeah, we we I think we’re going to run with this team. That’s what we’re going to do. We’re going to see what we can do with this lineup. Um, we already talked about that. We have the most Canucks team in the history of the Canucks. So, not good. Is that what you’re saying? Martin Hoglander and Heedle package for a second line center? I mean, what second line center though, Jven? Uh, Hoglander’s been sidelined for almost a year. Regarding second line center, it may be easier just to develop on your own. Brian would say. Line one, De Brusk, Patterson, Besser. Line two, King Kane, Heedle, Leer, Mackey. Line three, Sherwood on the left, Ratu and Garland on the right. And line four, Okconor, Bluger, and Carlson. Then Hughes, Heronic, MP three or MP29, Manchini, and third DPD and Meyers. Okay, that’s fair.
