Miami Dolphins SIGN A WR Following The Tyreek Hill Injury | Dolphins News

[Music] The Miami Dolphins got their first win of the season yesterday, but there is a lot that we need to discuss. Revolving the wide receiver position, Tyreek Hill obviously had that gruesome injury. He’s out for the year. Well, Chris Greer and the Miami Dolphins add a wide receiver and that is something we got to talk about. They signed someone to the active roster, the 53 man. We also have to mention Jason Sanders. Couple players eligible to come off of IR/thep this week against the Panthers. Will they do that? We will talk about that. But let’s start with the wide receiver signed to the 53man. It’s a reunion. Tom Pelisero had the note. Cedric Wilson Jr. is being added to this Dolphins 53man roster. He was currently playing for the New Orleans Saints on their practice squad, but with Miami losing Hill for the season, down to five wide receivers on the 53 man, they wanted to add another, and they do that with the former Dolphin in Cedric Wilson Jr. So excited to have him back in this Dolphins organization. Well, you should if you’ve been a Dolphins fan for more than 2 years because he was on the team in 2022 and 2023. After a career year with the Dallas Cowboys, Miami signed Cedric Wilson to a three-year$22.8 million deal to be the wide receiver too with Jaylen Wadd after Wadd’s rookie season. Well, obviously Miami then traded for Tyreek Hill later in in that off season and Wilson was pushed to be that wide receiver three. Well, he never really found his footing in Miami. Miami restructured his contract, which made him a free agent following 2023 to where then he went and signed a two-year deal with the New Orleans Saints, was waved in August, but then ressigned with the Saints onto their practice squad. Cedric Wilson is a 29year-old wide receiver, and he brings something that Tyreek Hill doesn’t bring, and that is size for the position. He is 6’2. He’s got a lot of good things going for him and it’s why Miami was intrigued with him to begin with when they signed him a couple years ago. He’s got good size. He could be a red zone threat. Now, does Miami need that currently right now? I don’t know. I mean, Darren Waller look pretty good and you’ve got a big bodied wide receiver and Nick Westini as well, but I’m not going to complain about adding Wilson. I don’t think there was really that many better options out there in free agency. Now, a conversation could be had about a trade, but when it comes to free agency, Wilson would probably be among the best ones available. And I want to look at what he has done over the past couple of seasons because in his first season with Miami as the wide receiver three to Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Wadd, he wasn’t very productive. I mean, 12 catches for 136 yards simply isn’t going to get the job done. But in 2023, Wilson got a lot more playing time because there was injuries to Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Wadd to where they missed a couple games throughout the season. So Wilson was called upon a little bit more as a rotation wide receiver and he certainly flashed 22 receptions, almost 300 yards, three touchdowns. Wasn’t that what good for the Saints last season, which is why he was ultimately waved, but they kept him around on the practice squad. Now Miami brings him to their active 53man roster to replace Tyreek Hill for the remainder of the season. Pin comment on today’s show. What is your one-word reaction to the Dolphins resigning Cedric Wilson Jr.? I’m going to give you my one word here in a second, but I want to hear yours first. My one word, familiarity. And I think this is a common theme for the Miami Dolphins throughout the tenure of Mike McDaniel ever since they had him as their head coach in 2022. The Dolphins whenever they need a depth piece or a pinch guy, they always elect to go with someone who knows the system. Just take the running back position for example this year. Jaylen Wright banged up Alexander Madison out for the year. Miami needs to add a third running back for Ali Gor and Nchan for the first couple weeks. Who do they go out and get? Jeff Wilson who has a ton of experience with Mike McDaniel. Cedric Wilson has two years of experience with Mike McDaniel. They bring him back when they need a depth wide receiver following the Tyreek Hill injury. So familiarity is something that is very important to the Dolphins and McDaniel clearly because they bring back another guy. He’ll slot in to be that wide receiver six on this roster. And I think you actually what you see on your TV right now or phone or computer, however you’re watching, makes a ton of sense because Wadd’s your wide receiver one. Who replaces him better than anyone? Probably Dgridge. Malik Washington’s now your wide receiver too. Taj Washington could very well fill that void. Malik goes down. And then when you think about Nick Westeriny’s role, 6’2 wide receiver, physical, good run blocker. He’s now your ex-wide receiver and red zone blocking wide receiver. Well, if he were to go down with injury, I think Cedric Wilson would probably fill that void since he is very similar in stature to NWI. So, your three starters you see pictured and then you probably have your backups to each individual right behind him on the depth chart as well. I do find it funny that Miami ultimately added Cedric Wilson Jr. because they signed him. Not only two hours after, McDaniel said this when asked if they were going to bring in an outside wide receiver via trader free agency. McDaniel said, “We’ll leave those conversations in the building between me and Chris Greer.” But I feel confident in the guys we have. So, it’s funny that he says that and then not even two hours later, they sign a wide receiver. But, it is just insurance if we’re going to be honest here. Like Cedric Wilson should never see the football field for the Miami Dolphins. Call Spade a spade. Like the Dolphins have been carrying five active wide receivers every week. That’s gonna stay the same. It’s just instead of Taj Washington being a healthy and active every week, it’s going to be Cedric Wilson Jr. being a healthy and active every week unless NWI gets hurt and then Wilson will probably be on the active roster for game day. So, I don’t think anything changes at the wide receiver position. Miami just brings in a familiar face that knows the system in and out. It’s good to be right. All right, let’s transition to some more Miami Dolphins updates on the injury front side. We’ll focus on a couple players that have been away from the Miami Dolphins because they have been on IR and PUP respectively placed there before the season began, which means they were out minimum the first four weeks. Well, it’s going to be more than four weeks. Mike McDaniel shared the information today that both Sanders and Meyer are approaching a return for the Dolphins, but it will not be this upcoming Sunday against Carolina. They are eligible to return at any time, so it’s not a big deal, but they’re just giving the two another week potentially to recover. Could be longer. Maybe it’s week six where they return against the Los Angeles Chargers. But I don’t think it’s the biggest deal in the world because your kicking situation has been borderline perfect. Riley Patterson has been phenomenal for the Dolphins who was on the practice squad for the first three weeks of the season, was elevated to the 53man roster and signed there before week four. Jason Marshall Jr. was placed on IR. And you couldn’t have asked anything else for Riley Patterson. Through four games, he has not missed a kick. He’s nine for nine on extra points. He’s four for four on field goals coming from 36 yards, 40 yards, 44 yards, and uh 47 or 48 yards. I forget if it was 47, 48. Might have been 48. Might have been 47. It was one of the two. I know that for a fact. Um and he went two for two against the Jets on Monday night. Like, here’s the simple fact of the matter. Is Jason Sanders a better kicker than Riley Patterson? Yes. But would he and that means Jason Sanders have changed anything for the Dolphins through four games? No, he would not have. Like the Dolphins have not missed an extra point of field goal and they have not bypassed a field goal attempt because they lacked confidence in Riley Patterson. So everything that has happened for Miami through four weeks would be the exact same if they had Jason Sanders. So holding out Sanders another week to make sure he returns at full strength to keep Riley Patterson around. I’m not going to sweat over that because he has been absolutely phenomenal. Now let’s focus on Andrew Meyer now because his return is a delayed a little bit and his injury was very mysterious in the preseason. It was a upper body injury. It was an elbow to be exact. and he was projected to be the backup center for the Dolphins and was labeled in training camp as one of the best offensive linemen had regardless of position. Well, the Dolphins obviously added Daniel Brunskill to the depth at that interior offensive line, kept them through the 53man roster. Keon Smith has been in and out of the lineup as a starter, as a reserve player with James Daniels on IR. But the point is this, they moved Cole Strange to right guard in week four against the Jets. And Cole Strange’s week four performance was way better than Keon Smith’s week 2 performance against New England and then Daniel Brunskill’s performance in week three against the Bills. So Cole Strange has shown me enough in the one game he started for Miami on Monday Night Football for me to keep him around for the rest of the season. So, if you are going to activate Andrew Meyer when he is eligible to return and ready to return in the next couple of weeks, Cole Strange is not the player I would be cutting. You’re not going to keep 10 offensive linemen, which Miami currently has nine. You’re not keeping them, right? You’re not doing it. So, to me, I ultimately believe that Miami will cut either Keon Smith or Daniel Bruskill when Andrew Meyer returns. Now, who should it be? I don’t know. And I’ll let that decision be up to you guys. If you had to cut one offensive lineman to make room for Andrew Meyer returning, which they will do because they do like Meyer, who should it be? Type KS for Keon Smith, type DB for Daniel Brunskill. Last piece of news here on the offensive line and injury front. James Daniels is progressing very nicely. Now, this is important. He was placed on IR with that pec injury following week one. McDaniel said they hope that he returns on the short end of IR, meaning week six against the Chargers. Sounds like that is still very much in play. Um he is eligible to return in week six. This is the fi fourth and fin against Carolina. Hopefully uh that is the final game he misses and the Dolphins will get James Daniels back at right guard. But I’ll be honest, Austin Jackson returning from Miami is way more vital for this Finn football team. Jackson is eligible to return from that toe injury the same week as Daniels, week six against the Chargers. Larry Borum has been an embarrassment to football. It’s a fact. He has been horrific. Like you can get by with Cole Strange another couple weeks at right guard. I think I don’t know how much longer you’ll be able to survive with Larry Boram playing right tackle for you. So, you just have to hope and pray that this is the final week we see Larry Borm for the Dolphins and Austin Jackson returns in week six like he is eligible to do and he doesn’t get hurt for the remainder of the season. Let us pray. All right, that’ll do it for today’s show. We’ll be back tomorrow morning with a video and afternoon. 1. Hill should be cut or traded, to see his hands sticking straight up like cheering that he was injured because he doesn’t wanna play in Miami anymore. Had enough of his troubles.

  2. So we bring back a guy who can’t even make THE SAINTS STARTING LINEUP?! We let him go for a reason and the Saints reaffirmed it but hey sure bring him on back again 😂
