Nationals vs. Mets Game Highlights (9/20/25) | MLB Highlights
Well, these are Toyota numbers for MLAN. But if you’re sitting at home, this is the most important thing to think about. Last night, the Nationals made 14 outs via the ground ball out of 27. They’re a ground ball team. MLAN’s a ground ball pitcher. That should be play a big part of the story for today’s uh game. And then that one tails outside. James Wood has walked for the 83rd time. Nicely done there for James Wood. And what a guy who can run. He’s got 15 stolen bases and it’ll bring up the number two hitter CJ Abrams and he can hit the inside corner with a change up and got him looking for the first out. A little different look for Mlan. The gloveside change up for the strike out. It’ll bring up the number three hitter Josh Bell. That one gets away. James Wood off and running immediately and the Nets get a runner to scoring position. Josh reaches out trying to drop it down the left field line. There was no way that ball was going to be caught and James Wood acted like it was going to be caught. So he only makes it to third. Looked like an obvious read for him. And the Nats are first and third, one out. And now Dalen Lyle, his average up to 286 in 84 games, 14 doubles, a club record tying 11th triple here last night. Now Lyall’s got to beat it out and I think he will. They don’t even venture a throw in. The Nats get on the board. the value of a cleanup guy who can fly and Dalen will get RBI number 33. 3-2 to Hassel. Struck him out. A fast ball right by him. Two strikeouts in the game for Mlan. That scratch out a run and lead one- nothing. Yeah, the 27year-old making his ninth start of the season. Three and one with a 476. Those guys got a couple blow up starts, but here’s the thing. Gets a chance here against the Mets. It’s the team that he blew out against in spring train. And there’s one man out. Juan Sto coming up. Looking to bunt, but it’s too close to the mound. Look at the big man looking like a cat. Here’s Pete Alonso. 272. Also 37 doubles, a triple. 37 homers, fourth of the National League. Shot over the bag. That’s a fair ball going down the line and into the corner. Alonzo heads for second as Cruz digs it out and Pete’s got his 38th double of the year. Well, I think this is the latest you can wait on a breaking ball before hitting it. He hit it right at the plate and punched it down that right field line all the way in the corner. A look at the runner and the pitch. Fast ball, little looper toward foul ground. House on the run makes a running catch and that’ll do it for the Mets in the bottom of the first inning. So, it’s one- nothing Washington. Mets had their leadoff man on for the second straight time and for Dylan Cruz. Two consecutive hits. So Cruz at first and here’s Riley Adams right hand better. This one to right on a pitch up by Riley Adams. Dylan Cruz to third. Juan Sodto makes his first error of the year. Keep running Riley. Cruz has scored. Juan Sodto goes to his 153rd game of the year before he makes an error. Plays it on the hop. Just muffed it. just missed it and had enough on it to make it all the way to the wall. Cruz was going to make it to third. Easy. Great speed. And then once the muff scores and the chopper to the right side, Alonzo will field it. Checks the runner. High flip to Mlan and he came down on the bag in time. That’s challenging. He missed it. Yep, he missed it. Well, the very real possibility of the Nats first and third. Nobody out here. Should be quick. Should be an easy safe. Here we go. Have to review. The call on the field is overturned. The runner is safe. Washington will keep his challenge. So the Nets, three consecutive base runners. So two straight strikeouts after a run was in and first and third, no out. Four strikeouts for Mlan. And with two men away, CJ Abrams will be next. Ball gets away. It comes right back off the back stop. And now here comes Riley Adams in under that high throw. And on a wild pitch, the Nets get another run. It’s now Washington three and New York nothing. A comedy of errors for the Mets here in the second inning. And starting to run out of time. Down three nothing as we go to the bottom of the seventh. Clayton Beater takes over the pitching for Washington. Francisco Alvarez will be the first man up against the hardthrowing Clayton Beer. And Alvarez pulls one over the bag. That’s a fair ball. Hits off the tarp. Cars out to Wood and Alvarez will stop at first base. Second straight day he’s hit one right over the third base bag. His second hit in this game and the Mets have the lead off and onto the seventh. One out in the inning with Alvarez still at first as now Cedric Mullins comes up right side Nunes. What a pick. Unbelievable pick by Nasim Nunees to get the lead runner on radio. There’s no way to appreciate what we just saw. Well, the diving stop, sliding, got it in the webbing of his glove, rolled over to his knees, and then Nunes a perfect throw to Abrams. This kid’s range is incredible. Collins does reach. And here’s Lindor with two outs. Three nothing Washington. Line drive to right. It’s staying up. Dylan Cruz right into it. Great play. That ball stays up at all, he’s going to get there. Two good defensive plays in the inning. Sodto left waiting in the on deck circle and Dalen Lyle is aboard now hitting six of his last eight 17 of his last 20 keep Hassel up there he struck out he’s bounced to second he’s grounded to third and Hassel hits one up the middle same spot though runs it down the spin on a hop and he got him oh wow what a play what a play by Francisco Lindor and apparently no challenge the great play by Lindor ends the top of the eighth big time test for the Nets bullpen coming up here. Sometimes the save is before the ninth as we have noted many times. So it’s Jose a Ferrer. He gets Sodto. He gets Alonzo. He gets Nemo. Swing and a miss. And Sodto gone. And that hits Alonzo. And the Mets have a one out base runner. That hit Alonzo on the bounce. 15th time that Pete’s been hit this year. Front foot breaking ball. Front calf breaking ball. So now two men away and with the Mets still trailing three to nothing, Starling Marte will be next. That’s ripped to deep left field. Back goes Wood and it’s off the wall. Racing for third is NMO. He’ll be held up there. Marte pulls in at second base with a double. Stayed in the ballpark, but now the Mets up second and third with two out. Here comes Ventos, the right-handed hitter with power and nobody up on the Washington bullpen. So he’ll face the lefty. And Ventos pulls one over the bag. That’s down the line and that’ll score two. NMO is in. Marte is in. Bentos comes through with a two-run pinch double. And the Mets pull within a run. It’s three to two. And the tying run is in scoring position with two out here in the bottom of the eighth inning. Big hit for Ventos. His first pinch hit of the season. Yeah, Gary. I think he got a change up and he was all over it. That pitch was up. Wraps it around the base and passed. And the batter is Francisco Alvarez in the sellout crowd. They’re on their feet here at City Field. Alvarez. Two singles and three trips. Swing and a miss. And a nasty hook down and in. Mets will pick up a couple doubles by Marte and Vientos. Well, interesting move by Carlos Mendoza. We go to the bottom of the ninth inning where the Nationals leading the Mets 3 to2 and Muise Torren is going to bat for Brett Batty. And now Tor has a base hit to start the night. Make your manager look brilliant. So, Ten sees one pitch, gets a base hit. He’ll exit and Siri will run for him, carrying the tying run. Gets the bunt down. House has to go to first with it. 53 on the sacrifice, moving the tying run to second. A successful sacrifice, five to three. And now Francisco Lindor will be the batter. 02 hits him on the foot and Lenor goes to first base. So it does give the Mets runners at first and second and it’ll bring Juan Sodto to the plate and he bloops one shallow center. Abrams can’t get there. Base hit. Siri around third. He’s going to try to score. Hassle throw off and the Mets have tied it. Juan Sodto dumps a single into center field to drive in Siri with a tied run. It’s three to three. So, this game is tied and now the Mets a hit away from doing something they haven’t done all year and that’s come from behind to win a game in the ninth. And now they’re going to walk Alonzo intentionally. So that sets up the force all the way around. Swing and a miss over matching him with the slider on one and two. Two down and a righty is up. Saurin Laauo in the bullpen, but he’s going to stand and watch. Cyro’s going to let Ferrer face the righty with nothing left in the tank. Swing and a miss. Strike out number four. And we will go to extra innings. It’s the Mets three. The Nationals three. Ronnie Moraicio. The last remaining man on the bench comes in to play third base. The Mets bringing in their closer. Edwin Diaz. Jacob Young is running for Brady House. It looks like to be the free runner at second base. Nasim Nunes at the plate when CJ when Dylan Cruz was thrown out and Nun squares, pops it up and Mauricio grabs it for the first out. So there’s a huge first down for the Mets. And there’s the second out of the inning as Young advances to third on the play. And now it’s going to be left up to CJ Abrams. Half swing. He went around strike three. Edwin Diaz with his scoreless top of the 10th. Bottom of the 10th inning. Luis Son Heluna to the plate. The place runner, the free runner is Stalling Marte at second base. He is the winning run. He bunts it in the air and it’s dropped. It’s a fair ball, but Marte doesn’t advance. A reaches. It was a butt in the air and Adams, the catcher, dove out to try to catch it. It looked like it, first of all, it hit him. He didn’t catch it and it rolled into fair territory. Hot shot. Oh, he had it. Looks like a couple. Young not near enough the bag to to get all three. He had it, Bob. So now there are two outs. Marte is at third base. And now Ronnie Morauricio will come up. And Mauricio lifts one toward left center. Back goes Wood. He’s there. And he makes the catch. And we’re going to the 11. Just like we drew it up. The Nets hang on to that tight rope. So on we go to the 11th at City Field. Tied at three. Mets Nationals. New pitcher on for the Mets in the 11th is submariner Tyler Rogers. They really feel like this is their best hitter in the lineup right now. Gary Lyall hit a triple. Lyle out to left center. Back is Mullins and it’s over his head. Triple go. It hits off the wall scoring is Japaro. Don Ly is troubled again. It might be CU later. Inside the park home run. Wild dives across the plate with an inside the park two-run homer in the top of the 11th inning. And he has given the Nationals the lead here at City Field. Oh, and that was clean. Dale Lyle running all the way through looking at this third base coach who’s saying, “Let’s go.” As we go to the bottom of the 11th with Washington leading five to three. So Mullins is out one away. Back to the top of the order. And now you have to navigate your way through Lindor and Sodto. This is well hit to left, but Wood is there. It comes down to Cooland. And so two for four today. Drove in the tying run in the ninth. Oh, the game is over. Sodto called out on strikes. Tap your helmet one. It’s a strike three after the Mentor rally for two in the eighth and one in the ninth to tie. And the Mets stumble as they drop one to the Nationals in 115 5-3.

Lile is ELECTRIC.
Fantastic ending guys. Just wish they could have held late innings. Cavelli deserved the win. But what an inside the park Homer we would have missed!
