Steelers Rookie Jack Sawyer Looks Like A MASSIVE STEAL… | Pittsburgh Steelers News |

Steelers rookie edge rusher Jack Sawyer played in 13 snaps versus the Minnesota Vikings in Dublin. Now, the reason I’m making this video is because he was one of the best players on the field every single time he was on it. Now, he had two pressures, two pressures in just 10 pass defense snaps. And here’s one of them right here. He’s going to get a one-1 opportunity as a five technique outside shoulder of the left tackle. Now, the offensive line is pulling that left guard from left to right as they try to just help out on that right side, but leaving Jack Sawyer in a one-on-one opportunity, right? This is what we love to see. Now, we also want to see our guy be able to take advantage of these one-on-one opportunities. Now, he’s going to do a great job lowering his center of gravity, getting to the outside shoulder, and creating a pressure throw here from Carson Wentz. Now, we can talk about it all day long. Whenever whenever you can generate pressure, whether it be from the interior, the exterior, you can create one of six different scenarios for a quarterback. Whether it’s a bad throw, a bad decision, an interception, a sack, a forced fumble, maybe a holding call. And right here, Jack Sawyer is able to utilize that low center of gravity to get underneath that shoulder pad of the tackle. These tackles tend to be really big, which means they can’t really get low enough to get that leverage at the pad level. Right. So, Jack Sawyer lowers the center of gravity. He’s going to use that off arm to kind of hook through the outside arm of the tackle. And now, as he gets leverage off the edge, he forces this ball to come out just a hair early. And they’re ultimately able to, you know, make a play. They do pick up five, six yards, but these are the ones that get me excited about Jack Sawyer. But when we look at it from his standpoint, he does such a good job exploding off the edge, creating pressure, and forcing the ball out early, right? So, in this video, we’re going to break down a ton of film, or not a ton, but again, he only played 13 snaps. We’re going to break down how he looked. Now, before we dive in, hit the like button, subscribe to the channel. If you want a part two to this video, hit the like button. If we get, let’s say, 600 likes on this video, you’ll get a part two. Let me know what you want me to break down next. whether it be Derek Harmon, YA Black, uh the offense, let me know in the comments. Subscribe and let’s dive in. Another solid play here. We’re going to get the pre-stab motion here by Justin Jefferson. We’re going to get it at a handoff stretch to the outside. We’re going to see him generate a little bit of like a chip. We’re really trying to pressure him off the snap, but we notice quickly that this is a run player to our side. So, as we chip him, we actually go and try to get this outside leverage. Now, he does a great job kind of bullying this wide receiver right where he wants him. Now, I will say normally in these cases, we want to get as far outside as possible to put him back or lead him back to the inside shoulder where all our guys are going to be here, right? So, I don’t think he he doesn’t do a perfect job because he kind of disengages to the inside. Uh running back Mason does a good job getting back around him, but ultimately he does end up fumbling balls out of bounds, whatnot. We know what happens on that play, but Jack Stor does a good job out leveraging his wide receiver. I believe that’s Jaylen Naylor. And then ultimately, I think he makes a tough decision here, breaking to the inside and not being able to maintain the tackle, but it’s okay. Not a bad play there. We can see how strong he is. He understands the mistake he made. Um, just want to contain him or we got to finish his tackle right here. But again, solid play there by Jack Sawyer. To only play 13 snaps but look good on almost every single one of them is crazy. Another thing I love about Jack Sawyer, effort, effort, effort. This dude is going 100 on every single snap right here. They’re going to run a chip and release off this wide receiver. You’re going to just see him kind of overpower him for the most part, but they do get the ball out early to the back. Eavier Scott, watch Jack Sawyer again, top of your screen here. Generates, pushing him back maybe three, four, five yards. Once the football is out, he doesn’t just stop. He doesn’t just give up on the play. He runs, he sprints, and he goes and makes a play. I mean, that’s what you want to see. I know they pick up 10 yards, but I want to see my guys never give up on a play no matter what’s happening, right? Go chase the football. That’s how you can tell this man Jack Sawyer is completely bought in. Great job. I mean, out works, outbodies Adam Theland. Dude can’t even run a route. And then go make a play. Let’s go, man. I’m telling you, I I like I like Jack Sawyer a lot. Week five of the NFL season is right around the corner. But before we get into that, we have Monday Night Football, two games this week, which is amazing because we have a chance to over 1,000x our money with the Sleeper app. I use it every single day. Might as well take that. Or 50 or 20, whatever you want to put in. They’ll match it. Right now, let me give you my picks for this game. I’m going to start off with Jamar Chase. More than 66 and a half receiving yards. I just feel like they’re going to be losing. They’re going to need it and he’s going to get it. I’m also going to go to JK Dobbins and I’m going to look at his rushing yards. I kind of want to go more than 50. I think that’s safe. I think that’s fair. So, let’s do that. Let’s also scroll down. Let’s go to Jaylen Wadd. I like his yards. Let’s go. 50 is kind of high. Let’s go more than 40, right? I think that’s fair. And then Darren Waller. I think we saw John Smith be really heavily focused in this offense. I’m going to go more than one and a half receptions. That’s I mean, that’s good. That’s a good deal right there. We got 10 for 67. I’m plugging that in. I’m showing you I’m about it. Let me know what you guys put in for tonight or next week, whatever you want. Again, use my promo code. Link will be in the description. Um, again, use promo code dubs and you’ll get up to a $100 match on your first deposit. Terms and conditions apply. Uh, see Sleeper terms of use for details. Currently operational in about 25 states. Check out Sleeper today. Another solid play here by Jack. You see him on the outside shoulder in a wide nine. Basically outside shoulder of the tight ends. They’re really trying to utilize him in space. And once again, we’re going to chip and release off this man side, off the full slide to the right. Now, as we do that, we disengage and do a really good job playing the passing lane with our left hand. Disrupts the ball and um forces the incompletion. This is a great tip, quick tip by uh Jack Sawyer, right? Beautiful job. Look at the the uh in the instincts here to get his hand up. Boom. All All it takes is a left hand up, ball tipped, incomplete pass, and instead of a, you know, a first down here, they’re looking at a third down. So, again, another good rep there by Jack Sawyer. Hey, here we go again. Are we surprised? Another great rep. He’s going to get a one-on-one with the left tackle. He’s going to use a power move. He’s just going to drive back. He’s got insane leg strength. Um, and again, whenever we can generate pressure, what can we force? A bad pass, bad decision. That’s what you get right here. Bad pass from Carson Wentz. So again, get a one-1 opportunity. They’re they’re going to slide to the right. You see the the left guard over. Everyone’s sliding to the right side, manto man to left. Once we initiate contact, watch the ability. And look at that. Left tackle is a big dude. He’s not a small guy by any means necessary. We saw him utilize his bend and his finesse off the edge. Now he’s going to utilize that bull. Just bull bull bull. Push him all the way back into the front side of Carson Wentz. And this is open, right? He’s got that all day. It could be a touchdown, but he overthrows it by getting the bad or by getting the pressure. We force a bad pass there from Carson Wentz in a really big play here or what could have been a really big play. I mean, look at Jack Story just bullies him. Bullies the left tackle. Watch this from the other angle here. So, on the right side of your screen, yes, this one match up once he’s engaged. Look at the the the the space he’s able to fill. Oh my lord. That is unbelievable. That is unbelievable what he is doing. Overall, Jack Sawyer played an incredible game. I thought he did a great job in just 13 snaps. He’s definitely going to demand not himself, but because of how good he’s playing, I think he’s going to force more playing time onto himself, which is huge. I think he’s going to be uh someone that can play a lot in this defense, especially with Alex Heismith um you know, being out with some time with that injury. I think Nick Herbig is still amazing. Think I think Nick Herbig is probably one of the best players on this team right now. It’s so underrated at two sacks in this game. Obviously, you have TJ Watt. Um, De Marvin Leo plays a good amount as well. But expect more snaps for Jack Sawyer going forward, man. Guys, hit the like button, subscribe, join the family, turn on post notifications for more Steelers updates, and who do you want me to break down next? Let me know and I’ll see you then. Peace.

  1. He’s the war machine! He’s the guy you call when you want things destroyed! But It’s like the coaches don’t want him to play I swear to God!! He was the best player on the field against Seattle but how do the coaches repay him? He sits on the bench! Same with the viks game they need to fire the whole coaching staff! Watt calls him 5star! The players know! Great call on your part!

  2. Sawyer is just strong. I mean, he can win the point of attack a lot, he’s starting to scratch the surface of what he is capable of. By the end of the year, he’s just going to be another issue for other teams to deal with, not just Herbig, Watt and Highsmith

  3. Sawyer and Herbig are making Highsmith expendable. Imo they should trade him and his sizeable contract this offseason and extend Herbig.(this is the final year of his rookie contract)
They should be able to get a 2nd or 3rd round pick for him.

  4. Herbig is the one about to get a bag tho. I wouldn’t mind trading Highsmith even tho he’s a three down player. Someone is going to get a damn good player when the Steelers can’t afford Herbig. Sawyer won’t be able to replace him unfortunately.
