MLB Now | Brewers can’t make World Series – Dan Plesac breaks Brandon Woodruff placed on 15-day IL

They’ve already uh in so you didn’t see the true blue. This was the great Jackson Cheerio taking his cuts. It’s good to see him back and healthy. But health is going to be an issue for the Brewers and that’s unfortunately what we have to talk about before we talk about this matchup. And I can’t wait to talk about Freddy Peralta who’s 17 and six with a 2.65 RA. He’s been incredible and he might work his way into being a finalist for the NL Sai Young. But Brandon Woodruff over the weekend with a right lat strain doing a throwing in a bullpen on Saturday. That’s when he felt it. Went and saw a doctor in St. Louis. They put him on the 15-day IIL ending his regular season. They’re hoping they can get him back for a division series. Now, this is a team that’s already dealing with a couple setbacks with our closer in and Trevor McIll who’s been so mightily important to this team. They’re hoping Jose Canana can come off the IIL. Jacob Miserowski hasn’t been the all-star version of Jacob Miserowski since the All-Star game. All of the sudden, the strength of the Brewers, Dan, is it a question mark going into the last week of the regular season? It it’s going to present some problems. What it does, it really accelerates a guy like Quinn Pester who’s had a solid year. So, if you were thinking where was he going to be in that rotation, two, three, four, I don’t think without question right now, he’s more than likely be the game two starter for the Brewers. I think Kantana coming off the IIL is going to be a big guy that they can get back. Jacob Mizerowski, you touched on it. He hasn’t been the Miz that burst onto the scene. This is a big hit not having Woodrip because that’s a guy one that has playoff experience and two, he knows how to manage a game. So, this is a big hit for Milwaukee. Well, and and the other thing that concerns me is he’s coming off so much time missed and you’re slowly getting him back and he’s finally and and they’re still monitoring everything he was doing all season long. This wasn’t like all of a sudden he had a free rain and a free leash out there. They were still monitoring him closely. To have a right lat strain on the side being a right-handed pitcher, that’s that’s going to be painful. And so for him to go 15 days and hope he’s back for the postseason, I like it. This is not the same team without him. I’m sorry. This is my number two game two starter here for the Brewers and that is a huge hit for them. I think a team like Milwaukee though, I I think they feel like they don’t get the national recognition they deserve for having the best record in baseball. And I don’t think the Brewers internally are looking at this thing. Oh, poor us. Because they’re an organization, man. They’re they’re willing to try things and make adjustments. So, is it a big hit for the Brewers? Yes. But I don’t think that they’re feeling sorry for themselves at all. They feel like, hey, we play a brand of baseball. Uh their bullpen, they rely on their bullpen. I think they got a clearcut ace. Yeah. To me, the bigger issue than Woodruff is McGill because he was locked down post allstar break. That to me is more of a concern than Woodruff. Yeah. But this is this is the thing with Woodroof is like you could plan we’re going to get him back. If the team is here, we’ll get him back and he’s going to add to the rotation and we’ll get him to where we need him to by the postseason. He’s going to lead us the way. This is a huge setback cuz they love to plan. Every team does. The concern for me for McGill is this. In a perfect world, you’d like to have the confidence mentally that know that you could go backto back days, pitch an inning on Tuesday, and then get right back in there on Wednesday. So, there’s going to be a little psychological factor with him if he can’t get back before the season ends and throw backtoback days. You could throw on the side all you want, but if you have to get loose and get hot and get ready and make 10 to 15 quality pitches on a Tuesday night and then come back and do that again on Wednesday and have the mental freedom not have to worry about it. And what concerns me too is postseason adrenaline kicks in. Yeah. And you go a little extra and you feel good next day a little more and and then you wake up one day and it’s important to point out his VO was trending in the wrong direction or the lad strength. Brandon Wood, right? That’s a that that scares me and I think it scares everyone loves the Milwaukee Brewers. We shall see how they fare. They got their going. It could have been guy since September 1st and it’s the the Mets. What? Look, you know what I see, Greg? When I look at the Guardians, the Brewers, and the Reds, what do they have in common? They scrap. They put the ball in place. There’s no power. You don’t sit there and go, “Rs do not have 120 homer guys.” Exactly. No, now they got Now they do. Yeah. Well, they got two because um uh Steer hit us 21st. So, they got two guys with 20 plus homers. The Brewers, not a whole lot of home, not a home run power. And then the Guardians, we just touched on that, but all three of them put pressure on you. They put the ball in play. They’re going to continue to to run if they have opportunity. They’re going first to third. Everybody thinks stealing bags is pressure. No, it’s the first to third. It’s the second to home. It’s the first to home. the biggest pressure and it would be demoralizing to the fan base in Detroit if the Tigers do not win the Central. I get that, but they didn’t invest the hundreds of millions of dollars in the roster like the New York Mets. I mean, when you think about it, for the last three weeks, the Mets have thrown rookie pitchers out that at the beginning of the year, they were hoping maybe Mlan would come up for a cup of coffee in September and get his feet wet. But they are they are taking three rookie pitchers and they’re putting the pressure of their season on these three arms. Their starting pitching has fallen apart. And it’s it’s I mean when you have a 95% ch chance to get in on September 1st and right now they’re on the outside looking in. The scary part of it is, you know, you have three young pitchers that you’re banking your whole What does it say about Kodi Singa that he’s in the minor leagues and they’re still riding with these rookies? He must be that far off. And you go back to Saturday and Sunday. They face two starting pitchers from the Nationals. Two of the worst erra for starters in either league and a team that’s hit all season long. Okay, they win Friday. They’re going to make some hay Saturday and Sunday and they get shut down Saturday. Mitchell and Irvin dominated. It’s unbelievable. I’m sorry, but I got I sing’s got to throw for me. If he’s healthy, he throws. Period. I’m I’m not wasting my bullets on him in the minor leagues who is not motivated in the minors. I can guarantee you that. Oh, so you’re saying, but what if he if he doesn’t have it? If what they’re seeing is below average performance, do you bring him up and put him in that spot? Yes, absolutely. Are we getting any better? I’m I’m I’ve I’ve invested in this. I think there’s more to the human heart and spirit than just, oh, his stuff doesn’t look good. Put him out there. We’ve seen guys all of a sudden have it. I think I got to put him out there and see if he has it or not. And the other thing I got to question is they said no to every pitcher on the planet in the winter. I know they got sodto. He’s having a great year. I’m not going to say that’s not the reason. Mania and Frankie Monttos and those didn’t work out. Yeah, but they have and they got cool uh Clay Holmes, but but they said no to a lot of folks that are are pitching now. And so to me, I got to throw a single. I’ll come back to that singular point. They’re going to end the year at Wrigley. The Cubs aren’t really playing for much. Okay, maybe that’s an advantage for the Mets. Then they end in Miami. The Marlins have won six in a row, nine of 10. The Marlins have not been eliminated from the postseason yet. The Marlins are four games out of the third and final NL wild card spot. four games with six left. Unlikely, unprobable, but possible. Possibility. Long as it’s breathing. It’s wild that the Marlins are this close to the playoffs. Yeah. I I this weekend series, I really expected the Mets to sweep the Nationals, particularly after they won Friday. After they won Friday, I thought, okay, they win Saturday, they win Sunday, they’ll control it. They’ll have at least a one or possibly a twoame lead going into Tuesday. and that just went up in flames. They’re in trouble. This This would end up being one of the top three biggest stories to define the 2025 season. Yeah. When you’ve got a guy that hits 40 homer, Juan Sto’s had a good year, Alonzo’s had a good year. You sign a $765 million player and you don’t make the playoffs. Even if they make the playoffs, they have to reassess what happened this year. It’s been an awful year. Wow. A team could make the playoffs and it would be an awful year. Oh, they’re going to have to make some changes to get guys healthy starting pitching wise because right now, put it this way. They may make the playoffs, but I don’t see them going past they don’t get to the World Series. I guarantee you that. Which team has a better chance of going to the World Series? Real quick before we go to break, Reds or Mets? Oh, Reds. Hunter Green. I don’t want to be facing him right now. I would say the Reds. Oh, wow. Hunter, but last week Hunter Green might be the best pitcher of baseball right now. last week. The Mets can hit and the offense is carrying them right now and you’re hoping for three young pitchers to carry you and you don’t want to use your Japanese star because you think his stuff isn’t good enough right now. There’s so many Met fans right now that are doesn’t work that are spitting their chocolate milk at our TV screen right now. I’m so sorry for all you Met fans. I so am. Please don’t change

  1. This is exactly what commissioner Rob Manfred and MLB was hoping for. They can't have a small market team win the World Series. It would be nice to see the Brewers win it for Bob Uecker, but like I said small market and make the taxpayers pay for repairs on American family field

  2. Everyone who thinks this is a moron! Same people who said we would not win 75 games in 2025. Same people who said the Brewers were going backwards each season despite the moving up each and every year.

Woodruff is not why the Brewers are going to win the World Series. The Brewers are. They are still extremely healthy across the positions and each player here is getting rested and healing their bodies a bit for the coming playoffs. Each person who looks at the current state of MLB Baseball and is being dishonest and saying that we are not looking at the #1 Seed with the best record in baseball . Woody only played every 5th or 6th day . The Brewers won MOST of the games he had nothing to do with and really he was the one who was terrifying to me in any start in a playoff anyways.

The Brewers are the best team in baseball . Do not believe that the Brewers are not going through anything the rest of the League is not going through at the end of this high energy season that was 2025. The Phillies Dropped their last 2. The Astros cannot stop losing. Detroit is about to let Cleveland take their division away. Texas stopped being winners, The Padres lost to the WHITE SOX. The Cubs lost 2 in a row. The Giants failed after getting into the playoff picture. The entire MLB is running on fumes and most of the contenders are limping into the playoffs. The Brewers however are not in that shape. They have more than enough pitching and really no one actually believed Woody was going to be there anyways

AS ALWAYS JUST TONE THIS OUT ! THIS IS NOT THE TIME TO START DOUBTING THIS CREW! WE GOT THIS! GO BREWERS!

  3. Time to get rid of Woodruff because when they need him he's not available! Maybe they can trade him to someone and throw in a hospital bed or some crutches 🩼🩼
