Bulls Training Camp Day 2; And We Already Have Injuries
Training camp day two and we already have an injury. This one to the legendary the ever so aggressive Patrick Williams who had to leave practice after injuring his ankle. Billy Donovan said he suffered the injury after planting his foot on a jump stop during a scrimmage. Never good when it’s a non-cont injury, but don’t worry, he did walk off the court under his own power and was later seen riding a stationary bike. No word yet on how severe the injury is and whether this will sideline him for a portion of the rest of training camp. Billy Donovan said he does not believe that’s that serious. I imagine they’re likely to do some imaging to make sure there aren’t any fractures or tears of any kind. So, more details likely to come out on that. Just unfortunate though because we’re kind of seeing this common trend with Patrick Williams where you’re seeing him get injured more and more. And I don’t know if it’s in large part due to his body and the fact that he put on all that added weight and muscle after his rookie season. We’ve talked about this before, right? him bulking up to being a power forward has seemingly impacted his mobility and athleticism that we saw so much of in his rookie years. So yeah, I don’t know, man. All I know is we still have this guy under contract for the next four years. So there’s that. But anyway, more ramped up five on five scrimmages today in practice. We got to hear from Trey Jones and Kevin Herder, two players we haven’t uh heard from speak to the media in a while. Trey Jones, of course, coming off signing that threeyear $24 million contract with the Bulls when I think a lot of us thought he would be leaving to a new team in free agency. Trey Jones was asked about this and whether he had explored other opportunities and he mentioned that he definitely wanted to be back. He wanted to be in Chicago. He didn’t see himself going anywhere else, which I know some will say, well, who cares? It’s not like he’s a sought-after free agent. This isn’t a big name we’re talking about here. And it’s not like, you know, any other team was really going to be able to give him that kind of deal because teams didn’t have cap space. But at that rate though, teams, even contending teams who didn’t have cap space, could have used the mid-level exception to sign Trey Jones. But for Trey Jones to want to stay in Chicago, where he played really well, by the way, coming off the bench and even started in a handful of games when Josh Giddy was silent for a period of time, I do think it says something that he wanted to be in Chicago. The Bulls aren’t known to be a destination of choice for free agents, and that includes role players. So to me it was refreshing to hear that Trey Jones his desire and what he told his agent is that he wanted to be in Chicago and didn’t really see himself going anywhere else. Now could he have just been saying that for the media? Sure. But I actually think Trey Jones appreciated the fact that for you know after not getting much run with the Spurs towards the end of his tenure there he’s been given a bigger role and appreciated by this organization. That’s why he wanted to stay. Like I mentioned we also got to hear from Kevin Herder. Of course, the big thing that was asked of Herurder that a lot of us are all wondering about is he going to be in the starting lineup. Is he going to start at the three? That was asked of Aoro yesterday. Aoro said, you know, he’s going to do whatever Billy wants him to do. He just wants to win, wants to do whatever he can to help the team win. Herder more or less answer the question the same. Said it doesn’t really matter to him that he trusts Billy and his judgment. If it’s him starting, great. If it’s not, great, too. He was then also asked if the coaching staff has gone into any specifics about what they’re wanting to get out of that role. that role being the starting small forward. Is it a defensive anchor, a guy who’s going to bring physicality like an Accoro? Or maybe a movement shooter to better align with the style of offense the Bulls are wanting to play of getting out, running, playing fast, spreading the floor, which would obviously be a better fit for someone like Kevin Herder if they go down that route. He indicated that the coaching staff has not detailed what they’re expecting or want in that role as of yet, but he did note that because of the style of play, they’re going to have to play a lot more guys just based on how fast they want to go up and down the court. It’s going to be a deeper rotation because guys are going to get really tired if you have a seven or eightman rotation. It’s just not feasible if you’re playing in transition on every possession. Now, I mentioned the injury to Patrick Williams. We also did get an update on the latest on Kobe White. Uh he’s still been doing some shooting, stationary bike workouts, but uh for the most part, he’s not really participating in drills or contact. Bulls are still operating with an abundance of caution to ensure this doesn’t become a lingering problem throughout the season. This was from CHGO’s Will Gotautle. Anyway, didn’t really get to see that much in terms of new video footage from this day of practice outside of the press interviews from the players that I mentioned. The guys continue to put in work to get ready for their first preseason games coming up next week. So, a quick update for day two of training camp. I’ve got Will Gotle coming on the channel tomorrow to discuss day three of camp, what he’s seeing and noticing on the court being there live in person. So, be on the lookout for that. Until then, guys, as always, be sure to subscribe and I will see you in the next one.

We just need to trade terry he’s to ignorant with his shots
That this dude PW is still with the Bulls is beyond me 🤮
Terry belongs in the G league
P. Willy hurt?????? Nooooo!!!!! Noooooooooo!!!!!!!
😉 What a shame he got hurt. {PW} I heard the Bulls franchise value went up as soon as he got hurt. Probably just a coincidence. 😉
The rookie will be fine from what I’ve seen and it’s not like he can’t replace Williams production or lack thereof. Let’s not do this… Give him Pat’s minutes and let’s get the ball rolling to see what we have. This is a key season not to mess around and restructure this roster before the East comes back healthy. All of the young guns (Terry & Phillips) are on the clock. This front office is on the clock as well. This isn’t going to take all season to figure this out. If the young core needs more time then get Billy’s ass out of here. Like wtf is he really going to do with this group? Have them compete and play hard. Put the building blocks in place and exit the building PLEASE.
Is anyone surprised anymore at this happening? This would only happen to the Bulls 🤦♂️
