The Panthers’ value has increased 51% over the last year

  1. We used to be top 10. Now look at us. A joke. Spent damn near 15 years “retooling.” Lets go PWHL Vancouver. I am girl power now.

  2. Surprised by a few teams ahead of the Canucks. Canucks have a huge following in Canada and are arguably the biggest team in other countries like Mexico, Australia and Sweden.

  3. Surprised by the Utah eval. No real performance increases last I heard they were having a hard time getting one approved), still don’t own a stadium, and have access to a smaller market.

Considering how much Smith overpaid for Yotes, I wouldn’t think selling more tickets alone would do much.

  4. Second most valuable team not even at the same value Leafs were a year ago, that’s very wild and telling.

  5. It’s always insane to me that we are valued in the top 5. We’re valued more than any non-original 6 Canadian team, and more than the other two original 6 teams.

  6. Panthers being that high in valuation after their success is an amazing thing considering where the Miami area market was not many years ago.

Safe to say that’s becoming an actual hockey hotbed.

  7. How does signing a new arena deal and making the playoffs drop you a spot below buffalo??

  8. I remember when Edmonton was a charity project that had to have a buyer consortium arranged to save them and keep them in Edmonton. I think they bought it for $175m. Similar valuation for the flames. Seeing Edmonton at 10x that valuation is nuts. Seeing the flames at 7x that is nuts.

Heck, seeing the Winnipeg jets over a billion makes no sense to me and I’m a Winnipeg fan.

Streaming has really pumped sports franchise values as the last man standing in linear tv.

  9. HBSE guaranteed the Devils’ future in New Jersey.

They bought the team for less than $400 million.

Never thought I’d see the day where the more valuable franchises than us were the Original Six, two Original Expansion teams including the second largest market, Gretzky’s team, and Ovechkin’s team.

  10. It’s been a while since this changed, but it’s still surprising to me when I see that the Isles aren’t ~bottom 5 like they were when the arena situation was unsettled (read: a very large chunk of the team’s history).
