NHL Preseason Highlights | Canucks vs. Flames – October 1, 2025
There’s Nam Kadrick. 17th year playing NHL games. He’ll turn 35 on Monday. And he’s part of a pretty strong Calgary lineup for this one. Both teams with certainly more representative lineups. They’ll bring the puck ahead. Try to get it back to Cadri. Broken up by Sherwood. He skates the other way. Puts one in the middle. Okconor’s in alone. Shorthanded. Stopped by Brontov who was able to sprawl and get the right pad down ice with the puck. Telegraphing passes. And this is Sherwood with a lovely little saucer pass right through O’ Conor but into the pads of Prosper had a short had a goal. I think they thought he was in too deep and it would have gone off the side of the net had it got past the goalender. There’s the first shot as Michael Backlin lets go from well out and Lankin in the save hangs on for the whistle. Karens shoots and getting a piece of that was Hughes to tip it off the target. Flames maintain possession. Zary all the way back to the blue line. Let’s go for the long shot off the right pad of Lincoln. He reached out to cover, but the puck was poked away by Tyler Meyers. After the icing, Kadri wins the face off. Kevin ball at the blue line. Cheese one up. Long shot. Stick save by Kevin Lank. Shot back in. And the Conucks just moved the puck to center. Brought forward. Grin with a shot. And another stick. And now Backlin finds Coleman. And he relays to Matt V. Grin who’s in on the left quick. Coleman takes his pass. Tried to return the puck and Hughes was able to pick that off. Now a lead pass and a breakaway. Brock Besser in alone. Scores. Besser to the glove side of Provattov. Spread free by Quinn Hughes and the Canucks open the scoring here in Calgary. Besser so calm, cool and collected on breakaways. Faked with a bit of a hold initially and then right past the glove. Prosper backing in. And I think he lost some of his space from the top of the blue paint. But look at this look from Quinn Hughes. Messer sprung free and at 659 in the opening period. Now it’s Farabby moving in turns on the boards. Puts one in front jamming away as Kyrie Lankin standing his ground in the goal crease. Sherwood will take his time before feeding across to Marcus Patterson. Ahead to Lebate wrist shot. Right pad saved by Prospatov and the puck ricochets out to center but they split them up on more offensive balance. He’s on this line with Frost and Cornado. Here’s a lead pass to Hubo cutting it alone. Hubau could off the outside of the net I think. Did they ever? This game just opened right up and Cornado’s going to put into a spot. Pardon me. Frost is to the backand goes Hubo and Lankan takes away the opportunity low on the ice. just hassled at the end. Esser feeds the line. Mancini at the right point in deep for Lebate. Person’s heading to the bench, but he’ll keep the puck in first. Long shot stopped. Lebate on the rebound. Just couldn’t corral it to get another chance on goal. But the Conucks keep the puck in. And there’s a long shot by Ratu who just stepped on to replace Patterson. Tim Flames try to move it out. Canucks won’t let them. Sherwood has it again. Great shot by Ratu. And a nice save by Prospito on that redirect by number 54 in white. Patterson wrist shot missed the net. Might have been hoping that Nebraska would be coming above the goal line back door. Here’s Hughes. Penderson scores. What a rocket as Elias Patterson put that one home off the setup from Quinn Hughes. And the Canucks take a two nothing lead on the power play. What a shot by Patterson. And the setup by Hughes. Two assists in the game. The Flames get chasing just a little bit. Rasmus Anderson reads that this pass is going to Person, but just can’t get in the shooting lane in time. And Patterson is ready to fire right on a T inside glove side post. Conucks two nothing and have a two nothing lead. [Music] Person won the faceoff to start that whole power play sequence. Myers shot tipped in. Was that Baines? Went off his body. Arch deep. Baines just cruising towards the goal. Meyers let it fly. I think Baines might be pointing at Meyers. So maybe went off the Calgary player, but Vancouver in short order here has made it three nothing. Another blast. Yeah, you’re right. It went off the Calgary stick. Yeah, after he lost the face off and he was just having it across. Calgary will go back on the power play, their second one of the game. We tried to give the goal to our deep mains initially, but they did give him an assist. Here come the Canucks short-handed. Garland and Forward going to the net. There’s the pass. Scores. Shorthanded goal for Derek Forward. It’s 4 nothing Vancouver. [Music] Five on five. This one short-handed. Good battle off the face off. Second effort by Bluger. And Derek Forward will come right in your living room and put this one past the glove across the top. [Music] Settled that puck that was a little bit wobbly and then waddled it past the goalie’s glove. We’ve talked a lot in the preseason and training camp about Adam Foot wanted to activate the defense as they’re trying to settle that bouncing puck. Feeds them out. Teddy Bluger couldn’t dig it out of his skates. Flames looked to take advantage, but oh man, I thought they were offside of the blue line. Play goes on. Padrick gets the puck, gets it to Sharon Goic. He cuts towards the goal with the shot. Lanking it falling down. They score on the rebound. [Music] Fabby able to pop that one home. [Music] And Lankin were he gets set here and just loses an edge. Makes the stop puts one in front and Meyers a good job to lift the stick of Sharon Goic going to the back comes Max Sassin. De Brush to Sass scores. Little give and go from the blue line in. Jake de Brusk at the end of a long shift but he’s able to get the puck to Max Sassin who roofed it to make it five to one. Well, that happened in a hurry there. Sharonovic and then Max Sassin the other way. Dump it off. Keep on going. Get it from De Brusk. And there’s another one over the glove. And the Conucks extend their lead again to four goals. 5-1. And Sassinid. Good job by Ratchet to intercept the clearing attempt. Gets it around to the right point for Heronic who’s come on to replace Hughes. So two right hand shot defenseman for the Canucks. Now Ratu hit the post and the puck ricochets off the boards and out to center. Ratu Ratu had a nice snipe in Edmonton the other night. Put that one off the pike. Now a goal from the side and it’s Ratu again. This time he puts it home as Devin Culie on his first shot faced and unable to make the save and Atu on the power play makes it 6-1 Vancouver. get back into the zone and Ratu I think he’s just trying to create a rebound here instead sneaks it right through Kulie bouncing pass gets towards his stick thought he had everything sealed off this is going to go near side near the elbow of a glove and he’s got the puck in his own zone whoa what a pass pass to Patterson in from the blue line there’ll be a penalty shot here I think as Person was fouled from behind and he will go after that. I was just losing my mind in the moment. You made me second guess myself which is never a fun feeling. I for some reason I just blanked for a minute. I thought the puck had gone out of play right away. But anyway, doesn’t matter. We’re just now he separates from his man Ball who skates onto the puck for Cal. Sharon go try to draw pass center broken up by Garland. Canucks have a chance for a twoon-one. Here’s Bluger cutting in hit the post. Now it’s thrown in front. Loose puck and the Canucks come up with it. Here’s a chance for a threeon-one. Brock Besser in on the right wing. Hughes to the goal. Scores. Quinn Hughes with a deep to the back and tucked it through the legs and the Canucks have their seventh goal and lead by six. Was that silky or what? I’m appreciating it. Presence dressed tonight. Vancouver that has really seized control. Hubo kind of you know he ran right into Lankade as he went in. The stick doesn’t hit the skates at all. Ronic bumped him but didn’t really do anything through center. Karens takes the pass. Tried to go all the way across. Picked off and here’s Baines two-on-one shorthand with Sassy. Baines centers. Sass scores. Another short-handed goal for the Canucks. Max Sassin has his second goal of the night. And the Conucks now lead eight to one. It’s a smart play by Baines the ice and then slipped it across. Kept his balance there after the contact and then Sass’s able to slide it underneath the goalender. See you bottom of your screen. Sass making sure doesn’t go offside and then get the stick down in the bottom part of I don’t think he got much on it. No, it just steered it between the There’s a puck that ricochets to the near corner as PR tried to send it across. Coronic back into the game. Chance in front. Lank in the save just as the game comes to an end. One last stop for Kevin Lankan. [Music]
Quinn Hughes had a goal and three points on the night, Elias Pettersson racked up two points, and the Vancouver Canucks dominated the Calgary Flames 8-1.

This is the kind of Canucks team I need to see when the season starts.
I tried putting this on pornhub but they took it down
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.
Kay, that edit was epic! Show Petterson being awarded the penalty shot in the second and then going straight to the third period highlights, genius, pure genius!
too much blue in Alberta. province migration from leafs and canuncks fans…
Nicely done Boyz!!!!!!
Lots of goals which is great but the speed was noticeable tonight. Lots of penalties but they looked good
Wolf is going to be one tired goalie this year
😂Бросуны и 1 редкий
Amazing from Cannucks
Flames already in mid season form.
Е Флејмси, Флејмси … Баш сте се усрећили са оваквим голманима. Мало су јачи од киселе воде!!!
wow what a game, gave me goosebumps!
Sportsnet really needs to work on their highlight packaging.
Do this against the other Alberta team. Then it’ll be worth getting excited about
Cancks👏👏👏
Oof….not a great game for either Calgary goalie. Neither made much of a case for themselves unfortunately. Might need a bit more time to decide who the backup is…
Terrible defence from Calgary as well definitely didn’t help. Multiple short handed goals against is not a good outing.
End of the day, it’s preseason. I just hope Huberdeau is ok…
Great win, but another slow start to the game 🤦🏻♂️
what a great game for canucks. EP40, huggy and brock got a goal while the fringe are really fighting for that spot. aatu, bain and max performed
Where the hell is the penalty shot, you morons?
EP40 still looking iffy
I hope yo see more of Sasson, bains, lekkermekii
Nice to see Calgary giving their D a day off…
Pettersson with this elite level talent will lead the Canucks to the Stanley Cup
Well, at least Calgary kept it close. 😬
Quinn Hughes easily the best passing defensemen in the NHL. Power play looking so dangerous. Seeing no more dump and chase is a breath of fresh air.
I'd like Canucks management and coaching to keep that Abbotsford line together for a few games and see how they do. Those guys were instrumental in Abby winning the Calder Cup. They did well tonight.
haha, CGY first goal was MILES offside. i guess no biggie in preseason.
The 3 kid centres are making Foote's decision of which one of them to keep up and which 2 of them to send down really, really tough. Cootes, Raty and Sassen are all putting in strong statements to be part of the Canucks NHL roster for 25-26. Unfortunately, they can keep max 2 of them up, counting 1 being a spare/utility player to cycle in and out of the lineup in various positions.
At this rate, at some point in the upcoming season, 1 of the 3 may well make the question of who our 2C is going to be long term a moot point. Raty is at that stage where he could step up and fill that role by mid season. Cootes is a bit young, but he's also mature beyond his years and who knows? Max Sassen had a very strong game yesterday and definitely made a statement that he won't be overlooked. And Sassen and Baines seem to have good chemistry together, so maybe keep them both up together as a duo. Karlssen also has good chemistry with them as that was the line for the Abbey Canuck in their Memorial Cup winning run last season.
5:42 I hope the Canucks video coaches were just letting it go in preseason rather than actually being bad because this was so offside that I was surprised they didn't try to challenge it. So technically an 8-0 shutout?
1:30 that pass
Flames goalies shat the bed that game but I will take it. Good boost of confidence for the boys
Bains deek around the defenseman with the pass was sick!
