NHL Preseason Highlights | Avalanche vs. Golden Knights – October 1, 2025

ready to go on this October 1st. William Carlson, Riley Smith, Mark Stone up front with Braden McNab, and Shay Theodore. And of course, three of those five skaters were here for October 1st in 2017. I don’t think that’s a coincidence. Tonight’s starting lines are sponsored by Inter Mountain Hill, Jared, South Carolina, Bruce, Trenton, and other places. Offensive zone control. Victor Olivesson, the former Golden Knight, dropped it in front for an opportunity and Schmidt equal to that. Olivesson signing a one-year deal with the Avalanche. 1.575 million. In transition, a Holtz drive that is knocked out. Then Alexander Holtz off the shoulder off the post and out. Oh my. To the ice. Alexander Holtz trying to find a spark. Earned himself a full contract here on a PTO feedor. That drop cut down before it got to the goal. Nathan McKinnon coming on. McKinnon looking for a loose puck. McNav knocks it away just in the nick of time. Springs Cole Reinhardt across the rim. Reinhardt on goal from just outside the blue line. Reinhardt. Oh, first a turnover. Lavar gets a shot away thanks to Schwitz forette pressure. We got a whistle. Resistance by Ben Hutton. Forced it away from Barnacov. Attempt from out high. I don’t think Schmid saw that one. One time shot. Saw that one. Made the save down with the left pad. The hockey IQ for Carlson and Smith. Here is Smith again. He couldn’t quite track that puck down. Rolling out of his reach side of the crease. Oh, another takeaway off the pipe. No from Marty. So is Mitch Martner go. Oh my goodness. Off the iron. But again, Mitch Mner 100point player but plays responsibly defensive. Puck to the slot for Hurdle. He had trouble getting good stick on it. Comes to Mner the right. He protects it up top for Hannah. Wrist shot blocked. Rebound and it is covered up. That might have gotten through. Wedgwood had been with Dallas Stars, Devils, Coyotes. He has bounced around. Started his pro career with the Trenton Titans. are all in attendance tonight. It will certainly never be enough, but those impacted will never be forgotten, guys. That’s well said, Ashley. There were a lot of tears expended on this day. Counted with Barb and Holtz here today. These board battles. That’s something that Bruce Cassidy these last two games are all about. It’s It’s not physical, it’s mental. Yeah, they play the day before. Triple hitter in the NHL. Kings featured in that late game. Colorado in transition. Saved by Schmid. Look for Gavin Grimley who turns 21 years old in a couple of days and Schmid seals that one up. But we talk about the excitement early in the season. This place is always packed. Got tipped on goal. A glove save for Schmid. Well, last year home okra was against the abs. You only miss count as much in October as they do in April. Carlson behind the deep with Smith. save. Rebound just goes wide again. But but why? Because they’re in good position in the neutral zone defensively and then the anticipation of one or the other to get open. A little bit pestered from behind. Smith tries to play it up top. Cut off before it got there to Theodore. Instead, Nushkin into the zone tried by Landiskog. He scores. Gabriel Landiskog from the outside. Colorado strikes first with under two minutes to play in the first period. Three years. They get the puck to the outside. No pressure right there. A little bit of a a push back, but it went through the legs of at least one through the pile short side. Did elude Schmid went off the stick at all there. Couple of games now for Land. It was difficult for anybody to see both games. McKinnon skates in for a pass on the tapback. Now Burns glove save. Schmid teams have switched sides. Schmid and goal to our left. Scott Wedgwood in goal to our right. And underway in the second. Power play continues for the Avalanche. What’ll he do? Macar straight on. Glove save. Loose puck trickling off the right pad of Schmid and back behind eventually to the wall. Initial save by Schmid. He just couldn’t squeeze it. One-time. Oh my goodness. Wide right and got a teammate down in the Heath goes Nous on the drive by Mar. McKinnon’s bid. Blocked by Theodore Hollson reaching in. McKinnon Dwig. Mar down low. Back door save. Schmid to his left on Nelson. Great pass. The Knights are one for one on the kill. Reinhardt waiting for the puck and he comes. Reinhardt roughed up by Burns. Got it to Schwin centering. Loose puck. Wedgewood on top of it. Trying to label it through but McKinnon broke up the play. Bele holds it in. Got save. Wedgewood holds up. But that was pretty goes just goes to show what he means to his teammates. [Applause] There is Landis Scott out in front. A shot off the left post and outs in this game. But both teams you talk about closer to opening night Ro see that little plays four or five foot passes quick and then one guy gets to the open ice get a great look this time. Schmid beat long side on the blocker but oh just missed run into by Manson as he was letting that one go. Another opportunity hurdle for Martner toward the goal. tipped on side got the redirect toward Cogland but pass tipped just a little reach by Parker Kelly halfway through the second period one- nothing Colorado land from Nushkin the last two minutes of the first period hopping a shot left wing saved by Wedwood crowd getting into it now the go night’s go champ becoming more and more prominent hurdle side with a shot today. And of course, Ben Hutton signing a two-year deal that was in the middle of the previous year, so he’s in year two of that contract. They’d like to be better on the penalty kill this year. Stick breaks on the draw for Nelson. He got a fresh one. H comes near the Vegas net and it’s cleared out by Zack Whitecloud. Faceoff win for Colorado. Just over four minutes to go in the second period. That one’s into Schmid for the six. But in the old days, how many was it Darren? 12 in for a lot of those those squad games. Across the line, Barbashev got to connect with a cutting Ka didn’t work. Out of the corner, Barbashev and he is stopped. Hurdle escapes to the corner. Turns toward the goal. Sneaks it to Martner shooting off stick on goal. Covered up by the net minder Wedgewood. And they’re on the same line with Cole Schwintz underway in the third. Billion Avalanche and the game’s lone goal. Mner lugs it up the middle joined by Hurdle. Lead pass goes to Son into the zone. S leading right to the crease. Kicked away. Hurdle parked in front. Now they go to work down low on the opposite zone. Hurdle low to high has Theodore shot. had a piece but not on gold. Into the corner who gives it away to Stone. Stone trying to ward off pressure by McKinnon to Carlson across the drive. Blocker away. White cloud let that one go. Carlson deflection for Stone. Kicked away. Kick save. And a beauty from Wedgewood. All kinds of pressure again. Poor check generated. turned away. Wedgewood got a piece. McD a head fake. Slap shot. Score. [Music] [Applause] Shot by Howen. Puck retrieval. And watch Howen gets right to the front of the net. And that waits for the traffic to get hit off Brett. How in front of the net right there off the kneecap past Wedgewood getting to the front of the net. Puck retrieval to keep plays alive. Critical madame sends it in. Glove down by Macar, but then it was pushed by him by Stone. Molinsky behind. Check by Smith. He centered for Stone. Carlson stopped. Rebound. He scores. Magis takes the lead. William Carlson in front. Two to one Golden Knights. It’s smart. We talked about their smarts, but we haven’t talked much about their heart. This trio, that’s pretty, but not to be denied. William Carlson on his knees on his backand finds the back of the net. But that line has been notable. They talk about him in the open. They talked about him in the Fedor comes ahead with 5 seconds. Mar with four toward the goal. Just miss Shay. Carlson as the clock runs out. Vegas wins two to one. A third billion Golden Knights comeback propelled by Brett Howen. [Music]

William Karlsson and Brett Howden each scored while Akira Schmid allowed just one goal on 22 shots as the Vegas Golden Knights went on to defeat the Colorado Avalanche 2-1.

  1. Was a good preseason game. Marner had a good defensive game with some takeaways. I think he’s going to fit in well with Cassidy’s system and should improve the atrocious penalty kill from last season. GKG
