Al Horford talks leaving Boston to sign with Warriors and teaming up with Steph Curry

Al Hawford has officially signed his two-year contract with the Golden State Warriors and he held his introductory press conference today and he spoke about what it was like to leave Boston and what it’s like to team up alongside Steph Curry, Jimmy Butler, and Draymond Green. Uh you spent seven of the last nine years with Boston, you know, won a championship, your family’s there. Uh how difficult was the decision to leave? Um uh it was it was very difficult. um you know uh Boston uh uh became a a second home for me and um and uh just uh being in that community and being part of that city was was something very special for me and my family. So uh it wasn’t a an easy decision for me to make. And how how seriously did you consider retiring? Uh not at all. I knew I wanted to keep playing. Can you why did you choose the Warriors? what what do you see in the with this opportunity? Uh it’s it’s a great opportunity um to to compete and and to win at a high level. When when when I think about the Warriors, I think about Steph um and and um and Draymond and um Steve Kerr and and seeing Jimmy Butler here that what he did in that second half of the season last year after the trade and how they’re playing. Um, for me, if there was one place that I that I was going to, uh, leave was was for this. Um, uh, you know, like I said earlier, it wasn’t an easy decision for me to to leave Boston, but if there was the place, it was this one. And, uh, and it happened and and I happened to get this opportunity. So, um, I, uh, I jumped at it. Um, a lot of people are excited about your fit with Steph Curry offensively. I don’t um I think Steve was saying I don’t think he’s had a stretch five like of your caliber before. I was wondering what what sort of how do you sort of foresee your fit with with Steph? Yeah. No, I’m I’m excited. I’m excited just to, you know, to be able to be on the floor with him and not have to chase him around and try to contest him and all that. So, the fact that we’re on the same side, it’s it’s something that that uh that it’s it’s special for me and I’m and I’m really going to try to take advantage and and and you know, learn from him as much as I can. He sees the game in a very incredible way and and I’m just going to, you know, follow suit and and really, you know, lean on him and and lean on Draymond uh to to kind of show me the way. How do you see yourself uh fitting with Draymond Green, not just offensively, but on the defensive side of the ball? Uh Steve Herr said you’re someone who, you know, defends the middle, is kind of a stopper in the back. How do you see yourself fitting on defense? Uh well, very well. Um you know, Draymond is is an elite defender, defensive player of the year. Um all defense for many years. Um just a guy that knows how to play that’s going to make the game easy for me. And he’s somebody that I’ve been leaning on a lot. Um uh just since I’ve been here, just trying to to to learn from him. um uh ask questions, uh trying to get as familiar as I can, as comfortable as I can, especially on the defensive end. Um and he’s just a very smart player that just thinks the game uh and he see he sees things very clearly. So for me, I don’t think it’s going to be an issue. Um and and I’m just going to be, you know, I’m I’m going to be trying to learn from him as much as I can. Uh any opportunity that I can. What was this like for you the last few months when there was so much uncertainty around the Warriors? um free agency period because of Kaminga’s stalemate and uh did you just sort of hold out faith that you’d be here with these guys uh eventually when when the timing was right and and uh to get going and I’m sure it was a little bit strange as well. Yeah. Yeah. Definitely u a lot of emotions, a lot of questions um uh especially, you know, trying to make a decision. Um and and for me more than anything, I wanted to make sure that um that uh my family and everybody was um stable and in place. Um and uh and and and that was the the biggest thing. Once once I knew that that we were taken care of and uh as far as that that my family was good, um then everything else, you know, was kind of easy. But but it was definitely a very odd off season just kind of waiting and waiting and seeing what’s going to happen, seeing what’s going to take place. Um, so, uh, just, uh, my whole focus was on on my training and preparing myself and making sure that I was in in the best place for, you know, when the season started.

  1. They’re old as dirt. We know this. But Al Horford is a good get frfr. He’s super smart on both ends of the floor. And he’s still a really good defender.

Estoy eternamente agradecida.

  3. Finally the Warriors got a center someone they be been needing for a while now that can get rebounds for them and really help them win more NBA championships and finally get Stephen Curry his 5th ring so he has more than LEWASHED LESHIT and eventually surpass the GOAT 🐐 Michael Jordan!
