Follow, subscribe on your favorite app and leave us a fivestar review on Apple Podcast or Spotify. And we like to say feel free to roast us in the comments of that five star review. As long as it’s five stars. Yeah, these guys suck. They want to train Riel. That’s what it was yesterday. So yeah. Yeah. As long as it’s five stars, that’s fine. So for the first time since camp opened, we’re going to do some mailbag stuff today. Um just because it is starting to ramp down a little bit. I think we have done a bag since I think we did one very early like maybe when rookie camp opened or something, but this will be the first like NHL camp with anything to talk about really mail bag we’re going to do. So, we’ll get to that, but let’s start with what we saw today uh at practice. um the usual stuff, some intense line drills, but um it seems like a pretty clear separation of NHL and and and AHL players based on today. But as Jeff Blashel tells us, and you’ll hear at the end of the segment, that’s subject to change. Yeah, it it the door is not closed by Jeff Blash’s words um for anybody to earn a job over the weekend, but knowing that Saturday’s lineup is basically going to be uh the Icehogs and maybe a few other guys that might be on their way to Rockford. Um, it does feel like what we see tomorrow night is going to very very very very very likely be who opens the season on October 7th with without Alex Flick. Like he’s not going to play the rest of the preseason. He’s just needing to heal from the skate cut. Um, but it does seem like basically everyone who’s going to start tomorrow is is is in the NHL. Um, today they had Oliver Moore, Ryan Green, and Lucas Reichel in the forwards group wearing the gray practice jerseys. Yeah. Which I think they had to order last night cuz I haven’t seen those all camp. They had them one other day and I was just like, “Oh, gray. That’s that’s new. I like them. They look good.” Yeah. I mean, well, I mean, now we’re at the point where you’re starting to separate who’s lineup and who’s extra. But those guys were kind of deemed the extras in today’s uh practice. We’ll see what the lineup actually ends up being tomorrow. Maybe those guys get in. Um, but they were playing together in the in the line rushes and everything. So, that kind of gives you for me that gives you a little bit of an indication of those guys are one way or another kind of on the outside looking in right Yeah, I would say that this lineup, which was out there today, is probably the most if you were going to say I’m going to predict the opening night roster and not try to take any big swings or like hit a home run, this is it. Bedar, Donado, Barakovski, Nazar, Terravine, and Btusi, Dickinson, Slagger, McKay, Felino, Doc, Laferty. I think those are the 12 most likely forwards to make the team out of camp. Your D pairs were Grizzlick, Renzel, Kaiser, Lefchov, Allen, and Murphy, and then Delmro and Crevier kind of on the fourth pair. Um, Grizzlick is interesting. And was it you or Greg I was talking to about Grizzlick this morning where he said interesting that Grizzl is filling in on the top line almost as if like when a guy’s hurt, the scratch player will fill in on that line. M I wonder I he Jeff Blashel talked about Grizzly today too and I got to say Blashel’s really good at not really tipping his hand on stuff. Yeah, it feels like I don’t know. I I can’t I honestly don’t even know. If I was to guess, I would say they’re probably going to release him from the PTO, but I don’t know. We’ll see. Yeah, I mean I I think if he the the situation with Grizzlick is that he is here trying to win an NHL job somewhere whether it’s in Chicago or not. Um so I think for lineup purposes you’re trying to play and it’s not like Matt Grizzlick is this guy who is just a fringe NHL player that’s just getting a random opportunity. It’s a guy that’s played over 500 NHL games. Like half a point per game last year. He put a careerhigh in in points up last year with with the Penguins. Like this is it’s not a a guy who’s just, you know, on the on the fence of AHL NHL. It’s a guy that should have should have honestly had a regular NHL contract, but Blackhawks gave him an opportunity. So you pair him with a guy like Sam Renzel. Um you get the left shot, right shot matchup. you get rookie Sam Renzel with veteran Matt Grizzlick, like I I think it’s there’s a couple good reasons to put those two guys together and and then with, you know, with a guy like Grizzlick, you can play him 18 to 20 minutes and, you know, he’s not getting power play time. So, it’s it’s all basically going to be five on five time uh if he plays both games or just tomorrow um to close out the preseason. and you’re giving them a shot to either earn the earn the spot here or, you know, have three, four preseason games on tape to have an NHL team come calling. So, I think if you feel like Alex Vic is not far away from coming back and you’re comfortable with the guys that you are going to send to Rockford, Rockford be they’ve already sent Kchinsky. If Delmastro and Allen follow suit, you keep Grizzlick around on the PTO through the preseason and maybe the expectation is Alex Velic is healthy by the seventh ready to go and then you keep those six guysel left Kaiser uh Murphy Crevier. Did I do math wrong here? No, I think you got it right. Yes, because then you would have you would Yes. Okay. So you’d have Velic Renzel, Kaiser, Levchinov, Murphy, and one of Delmas. There you go. Or Krevier. And then Krevier is on the right side is is is likely the extra. So yeah, so maybe you then keep you could carry six defensemen healthy uh without Grizzlick and Velic to Florida if you kept either Allen or Delmro. and Jeff Blashel sounds like he’s a dumb Astro fan, but Nolan Allen has I think played a little bit better and he’s going to very likely play Friday’s game um as like his kind of like final audition. So, we’ll see how things play out. If so, if I’m reading into it when Blashel says there hasn’t really been full decisions made yet, it feels like the one that he might still be waiting to make is Dastro versus Allen. Yeah. And then what to do with Grizzlick. Um I don’t know. It’s going to be interesting to watch play out. I we we should play uh Blastel here pretty soon. Uh it’s about five minutes long. So Sean, we’ll get to that in a few minutes here. Um but as I’ve kind of, you know, gotten to think about the lineup here and and look at the plan in Rockford and and and he says it today like I’m not a I’m a big picture guy. Um more going to Rockford as much as it’s sort of disappointing. Um it makes sense. He probably does need a little more seasoning, a little more time, and and it could be as honestly they could change their mind in three days if they wanted to. You know, if they just say, “Wow, this okay, this lineup’s not working. Like Sam Laferty is not working out or whoever it might be. We’ll just bring Oliver Moore up now.” I it can happen at any time. There’s no limit to how many times you can call and send down Oliver Moore. But I think starting him in Rockford, while disappointing, makes sense. it is the safer move of than saying like we think he’ll probably be okay. Well, so what I’m kind of wondering with the forwards group is the 12 guys that basically seem locked into being in the NHL are there, right? Yeah. Well, all of your extra forwards were Green, Moore, and Riel. All guys that you want playing. So, do you send Green and Moore down to Rockford and keep Riel and Riel’s your 13th forward, which he doesn’t really you don’t really want him cycling in and out on like the fourth line or something like that with a guy like maybe Sam Laughaferty or you know, who knows what’s going to happen with him up till October 7th. Um, I don’t think you send him down, but then do you keep Ryan Green up here who kind of fits more of that bottom six role and responsibility and play style, but do you want him cycling in and out rather than playing every night in Rockford? That’s an interesting question because you need you’re the chances are you’re going 13 forwards and seven defenseman or 14 and eight or or 14 and seven or 13 and eight. I don’t know if you want to carry eight defenseman. It doesn’t make a ton of sense to me, but they can have up to, you know, they have 23 men on the roster. So, unless you sign Grizzlick and you’re and you don’t have Vastic right away, then you’d have eight defenseman basically. Sure. And then you just have, you know, Grizzlick rotate in or out. I I don’t know. It’s interesting. But it it feels like if if if we’re considering Riel as good as gone, maybe Green and Moore make the team cuz that gives you 14 forwards. But then who sits? Do you just rotate? Now it’s Green and Moore. But do you like maybe you go like dictate matchup and say, “Hey, like Florida is a bigger, more physical team. We’re going to put Laughafer and Doc in. And if we’re playing a more skilled team, we put Green and Moore in.” I just don’t want any of these young guys sitting and that includes Colton Doc. Yeah. I just I I don’t I don’t envision them sitting young guys especially if it it’s those two guys who very likely would play every night in the top six 18 plus minutes a night for Rockford. Um but if you send both of them to Rockford then your extra forward is Riel. And if you if you are moving Riel then who do you like who are you bringing up? Tanonado probably like a guy that’s like yeah being in Rockford helps some of the young guys. He’s a he’s an AHL veteran. That’s that’s great to have. But you bring him up to the NHL Anderson and he’s Yeah. He’s your He’s your scratch. Or if you need to, you know, cycle somebody out, you put him in, he plays 10 minutes and you don’t you don’t, you know, live or die by it. I don’t know. It’s It’s fascinating to be in this spot. I I think I think had we not heard from Frank Saraveali a few days ago kind of reiterating and re-upping and restoing the fire of the Blackhawks are trying to move Lucas Riel and are open to lots of conversations about it. Um I don’t then I then I would just say all right well then Riel’s your 13th. I also we’re going to play BL on the other side of the break. I don’t I don’t want to spoil too much of it, but I I flat out asked him like, “When you have a guy’s name in trade rumors, what do you tell him?” I wasn’t specific, but he was very much acknowledging the fact that they have a player in trade rumors. Yes. I mean, it’s he did not try to deny and be like, “What? What trade rumors? I don’t see any trade or to dismiss like a rumor, right?” Yeah. He No, rumors are a lot of times rumors play out to be true. So, don’t, you know, don’t dismiss something that might be out there. Yeah. I the idea of of Tonyado makes a little bit of sense because it’s a guy you’re not worried about sitting. I don’t know. I just want the scene to be as young as possible. I know. I want I want more Riel and Green to all be in and playing, but it just it just doesn’t seem like that’s the route that uh they’re going to start the season with. At least not immediately. Yeah. So, we’ll see. All right. Uh we’re going to hit the break zone here in a second. But uh before we do, please get in a habit. If you’re just learning our show, you just discovered us in the preseason. So, I slapped the table angrily about the world of soft drinks, which has gone appropriately soft. Soft, that’s the name for it. And we’re back. We are back. And we’re back on CHDO Blackhawks powered by Bet 365. Let’s hear from Blackhawks head coach Jeff Flashel who spoke about two hours ago at Fifth Third Arena. Here’s what he had to say. Conversation begins with the status of Algus Vlic. Do you uh do you anticipate Vassic uh at all this weekend or just No, he will not play this weekend. No. No. still hoping, you know, for game one, but uh, you know, obviously he’s dayto-day, so we’ll see. Seemed like the groupings today were pretty much full of the NHL guys. Is that you said the other day that the lineup for tomorrow might be close, but does it seem like it’s closer than maybe you expected? No, I I still think it’s a it’s a lineup of guys that have, you know, that are that are all guys that are NHL guys, but we still have decisions to make and and those decisions aren’t closed out today. You know, we’ll we’ll play two games this weekend. Um Friday will be a much more experienced lineup, but that doesn’t mean that if you’re not in the game Friday that you’re not making the team. We’ll make those decisions after. you know, you you just no reason to make decisions before you get all the information until you play a total of six uh exhibition games and let’s use all of them. With Matt Grizzlick, what what sort of conversations had you have, you know, obviously his situation is unique where he’s either here or probably looking for an NHL team. What have you made of his camp and where do you kind of feel like he stands right now? Well, he’s done a good job. He’s a he’s a good player. Um we knew he’s a good player when he signed the PTO. Um Mike Valuchcci coached him last year in Pittsburgh. I’ve seen him a lot over the years between uh Boston and Pittsburgh. Um he’s a good he’s a good player. He’s a um you know he’s probably a steady a pretty steady player. Um um so then it just you know the conversations we had coming in is has come in and uh in my mind we probably had you know 10 defenseman for like seven spots and so he was in that mix at 10. um we’ll go through the weekend and make a decision on on what’s best and and obviously he’s a PTO so he’s not assigned player and so we’ll see where that all goes. Um you know ultimately uh he’s done in he’s come in and done a pretty good job. How have you felt Landon Slagard’s kind of come back up to speed since he rejoined? Well I think um you know one this was really the first kind of day he got to do PK which will be something that that I think he’s going to want to do a good job with. Uh um but I think he he can get back up to speed in a hurry because he plays it’s pretty natural from tenacious in his manner. So um you know be good to get him in a game or two even. I might ultimately play him in two just to get him as up to game speed as he can. Can you tell me a little bit about Andre Burkovsky’s camp? What you thought? Yeah, so I think he’s done a good job. Um you know he uh I’ve seen him through the years and and he’s a guy who can I think as advertised he can transport the puck. he can bring it into the zone, kind of delay, find the next layer. You saw that with uh giving it to Badard on the one-timer in uh last game. Um he can kind of do those kind of things. I think he’s done a good job of uh you know, him and I’ve talked about just like the rest of the team. He’s got to be good defensively. Um we got to make sure that we’re two-way players and I think he’s done a good job of that. He’s he’s worked to try to win puck battles. Um so overall, I think he’s had a he’s had a good good start to his camp and hopefully he can finish strong here this weekend. when you’ve got a player whose name is in trade rumors, how do you handle that as a coach? How do you keep them focused? Um, you know, I think ultimately every situation’s a little different. Um, for right now, I’m a big believer in controlling what you can control, and that’s uh uh the practice today, you know, and and and I that’s the hardest thing in the in the world, I think, to do at times. Uh um but ultimately, you you’re that’s the only thing you have an impact on is is what you have in front of you. and um so doing the best job you can um with with the tasks that are put in front of you and then and then moving forward to the next day. How often are you talking to Kyle Davidson right now kind of about the larger decisions but also situations like that? Uh we talk on a you know certainly every day multiple times a day basis. um uh you know, but we’re also I think both kind of the same ilk that let’s kind of let’s see how things play out and uh you know, keep continue to watch and don’t get any into any too many rush decisions and just kind of play it out and and uh let’s see where it goes. If it comes down between the two of you on a roster decision, who has the ultimate say if you’re, you know, do you want this defenseman or Yeah, we’ll find out. Right. Um, you know, ultimately Kyle’s the GM, so he has final say on player personnel decisions and, you know, and he would say to me, I have final dec say on uh, you know, our hockey team, you know, how we play, stuff like that. He has final say on that stuff. But, uh, you know, I think there’s obviously there’s a lot of things that go on. First off, I would tell you that uh I I get the bigger picture on on a lot of this stuff, too. And and I think I’ve shown in my time to um I guess of the word team player, but like we’re in this together and we want to get to the best result. And um so, you know, I think understanding the big picture is important and us being on the same page is important and that’s why you have decision. You know, we’ve had conversations um preceding it. So when those decisions come up, at least we’re on the same page. Taking the temp is presented by your local trusted experts at Four Seasons Heating, Air Conditioning, Plumbing, and Electric. Visit Four Seasons Heatingcooling.com for all their special offers and money-saving coupons. That’s four seasonasons heatingcooling.com. Uh mentioned Lucas Riichel in there. Not like uh directly, but talk about the trade rumors. I know you had a person with trade rumors. We want to take your temp on Lucas Reichel. You said you had something you wanted to get to before. Oh, yesterday we talked about, you know, some of the the the rumored landing spots or teams that could be interested. Nashville, San Jose, um Edmonton, which and Vancouver was another one. Van Oh, yeah. Vancouver. Um like if if looking around like okay, we’re talking about Lucas Riel. If you are trading him, try part of trading him is doing him a solid and giving him an opportunity he’s not getting here. So you look at Vancouver, you look at Edmonton, he’s not going to get an opportunity there. Some people were mentioning Florida. Okay. You think Lucas Reichel is cracking that roster? Taking Barkaw’s job first line. Um, so another one that got brought up was Montreal. And I’m and you look at Nashville, they are uh lacking with under 25 forwards. They have one that needs a contract. I don’t know what they’re doing. Um San Jose, uh which is in the same position essentially as the Blackhawks where they’re rebuilding. They have young forwards that are coming up. They have roster battles that that they’re in the middle of. Um, and then Montreal, they’re ahead of San Jose and Chicago and and teams like that where their rebuild is, I’d say they’re out of rebuilding. They have a I think they have enough young pieces that they’re moving forward with that they say, “This is our group. This is our core.” Um, and they made the playoffs last year. The the arrow is pointing up. So, I don’t know if they’re necessarily interested in um a project, but someone uh Stephen who lives in Quebec uh mentioned to me on Twitter about Joshua Joshua. I’m going to say Wah because he’s uh French Canadian. Um but he’s a player that’s in the exact same position as Riel. too good for the AHL, not making the NHL group, 22 years old is all change of scenery candidate. Um, and I would be more interested in a player for player swap than fifth round pick for Lucas Reichel because Cuz what does a fifth round pick do for you? Nothing. Essentially nothing. But a player for player swap I’m more interested in. And Joshua Wah is a player that is in a similar situation as Riel. But I think the problem with that is that he’s almost too similar to Lucas Reichel in that the reason he’s not cracking Montreal’s roster is the reason we think Riel is not cracking Chicago’s roster, play style and fit. So, it’s it’s it it really to me the the temperature of the trade is is like I’m still not necessarily luke more than lukewarm about it because there’s still things that Lucas Reichel can do, can provide, but if you’re using him as a 13th forward, are you only saving him for a top six injury or something like that? because you don’t put him in the bottom six and expect him to, as Jeff Blashel has used as a as a buzz word, thrive. He’s not going to thrive down there. He didn’t thrive down there down there last year in the fourth on the fourth line with Pat Maroon. So, what opportunity are you going to keep him around for as a 13th forward if he’s not in the in the lineup regularly? I don’t know. I I I look I look around. I look at the fits. I just I don’t know. I don’t know what what other team gives him a better opportunity. No, I agree with that. But I, you know, and I I agree with you. I feel like it’s I don’t want to say premature cuz he’s gotten a a big shot at being in the NHL and he’s gotten opportunities. And has he gotten top six opportunities? No. Has he earned top six opportunities? No. And you could look at it and say, well, look, it’s it’s chicken or egg here. Like, this is an offensively skilled player. You can’t expect him to go play on the fourth line and be Marcus Krueger or Daniel Carcillo. He’s just not that guy. That’s not what you drafted him to be, yet you failed to give him the opportunity. But this team has nothing to lose in Lucas Reichel being good. It helps them out big time if they have another middle six scoring option, but the fact that he’s been on a trade market for over a year with no takers. The fact that now three coaches don’t really seem to be able to find a place for him, including Ander Sorenson, who had the most success with him when he was in Rockford. That seemed to be the one guy that hey, if anyone can unlock Lucas Reichel, it’s Andrew Sorenson. He couldn’t do it. Jeff Vashel’s looking at it like I don’t have a spot for this guy because if if the game’s on the line, who am I going to trust more? There’s probably several guys he has above Lucas Reichel in that role. And I think too, like your point, I think keeping him around and having him as that 13th forward and using him as a matchup thing. Hey, more skill, Lafert’s in or more size, Lafert’s in. or skill. We’re putting Riel in. Whatever, fine. But it just feels like there’s such a consensus between the decision makers at the Hawks that there’s just not anything there with Lucas Riel that I kind of just have to shrug. I can’t get mad at it. They are obviously much closer to it than I am, than we are. They have information that we don’t and will never have. So, if they’re of the mind that our best option here is to move Lucas Reichel for a late round pick, I don’t think they’re dumb, right? I I I think based on the things they’ve done throughout the history of Kyle Davidson taking over, you might, you know, you might gripe with a few of the things he’s done, but he’s not an idiot and he’s not just going to punt on a player that could be helpful simply to punt on a guy who could be helpful. It’s it’s what we’re talking about. It’s not like there’s a guy that cannot be denied has to be in the NHL right now. We’re saying should Oliver Morris start here or Rockford. Should Ryan Green start here, Rockford? And either would be fine. Neither of those guys has really grabbed that by the neck and taken it. So why not just keep them and use them sparingly, have them in and out of the lineup, but apparently they don’t they don’t want to do that. And I think part of that, as you mentioned, is to do the player a solid. We’re going to give you a shot here. I think that’s the I think that’s the biggest thing because I it they absolutely could just keep him keep him around and be none none the worse for it. Um but I think what they what they want to do and what probably is the case that we’re talking about here is that they don’t see him being here long term. They see the guys that are going to come in or that are battling with him having a better chance of getting to a spot that they want than he does. Look at Anton Fondell and the way that he’s started his season in the SHL. He had a two two goal game today. Like two goals, six shots, 1544 today, including a Michigan goal. Yeah, it was pretty sick. Um, so you like that’s a guy that I think once he once he gets to the NHL is probably built more for more opportunity and more success than Lucas Reichel is. Sasha Ba has a big college season coming up, but he’s a guy that already kind of looks like might have the game that fits the style that they want a little bit more than Lucas Reichel. Um, so they don’t want to just keep him around in limbo waiting and then, oh, now we’re going to trade you. Like give him the opportunity to, you know, get some runway with another with another club um as as soon as possible. And the last thing I want to mention uh on Riel here, I was digging on this before the the show started. Through the through this preseason, there have been 14 forwards that have played at least 27 minutes of of ice time. Uh basically all of these forwards aside from Landon Slagger are the forwards left. Um Riel as far as Corsy uh Corsy four percentage seventh out of 14. Fenwick four percentage seventh out of 14. Shots four percentage eighth out of 14. goals for percentage with him on the ice, seven out of 14. Expected goals for percentage with him on the ice, uh, ninth out of 14 scoring chances, four with him on the ice, fifth out of 14, high danger chances, four with him on the ice, fifth out of 14 PDO with Lucas Reichel on the ice, which if you don’t know, that’s shot percentage plus save percentage. So, anything above 1.0 is good. He is ninth on the team with a 0.994. So So it would indicate some bad luck with him on the ice scoring lines. Yes. PDIO that that Yeah, that would that would um represent that. So out of the 14 players that are here 15 including Landon Slagger, he’s boom right in the middle if not a little bit upper third of the metrics. So if you’re looking at numbers, if you’re looking for statistical uh you know help in the rile debate for for him, it’s there. So it just comes I I think this is just going to come down to how the organization wants to play and how many players they have to play that style. Yeah. All right, we got to hit the break zone. Sean, what do we want to hit that one first? Oh, yes, yes, yes, yes. Uh, sorry. The super chat is from Mark Hansen. $49.99. $4.99. Uh, Mark Hans Hansen says, “With Fondell looking great and BVOIR looking like you should have done that, Mario. Greg Boycert, uh, looking like a true center that could be a top nine guy. Who do you think will most likely move to wing? I think Fondell could be a wing. Out of those two, I’d say Fondell. Yeah. Um unless he’s talking big picture, but yeah. Yeah. So, if you’re saying B is in the picture, Nazar Bard, um you know, AJ Spellellacy, uh looking a few years down the road, you throw in Mason West, uh potentially into that group. Um, I think Fondell, it’s funny like you have BA, you have Frank Naser, you have Conor Bard. If that’s what you’re going with as your one, two, three down the middle. You know, Oliver Moore has played center in college before, but so far has been mostly on the wing since he’s been with the Blackhawks. Um, Ryan Green looks like a center. So I think if your one two three for the future is Bard Nazar Bu if you have Fondell pan out to be a topline wing alongside Connor Baddard I think that is probably best case scenario for the organization. So as far as centers that I would move the top guy would be Fondell and and even today he was playing center through the first uh seven games of the SHL season with uh Jur Gardens. Today he played on the left wing. He was a he was a third line center for the start of the season, he moved to the left wing today on the second line. So if he’s a winger to move to when once he moves to the NHL um and can be a running mate alongside Connor Bard or you put him with Frank Nazar, either or. Um I think that’s probably best case scenario for him. It’s a good problem to have. I’d rather have a bunch of centers that could potentially move to wing than a bunch of guys that can’t play center. Yeah. or or you don’t have a number two center and you’re just cycling through guys who are got three cups that way. Three. Yeah. Number three centers or journeymen. Yeah. All right, let’s tap open the mailbag without any further delay. We appreciate everybody being patient. Hit that like button for us. Uh here we go. Windy City Sports fan says, “This year I want to follow the prospects more as my new hockey season resolution. What recommendations do you have to follow the guys in the CHL, college, and Europe? I mean, you’ve got to get an Elite Prospects subscription. That’s that’s a that’s you have to beneficial. Yep. Yep. The the crew over there does an amazing job uh covering so many levels of hockey. uh North American, international, like they I saw Cam Robinson was talking about uh players who are in the uh 2011 uh draft age, players born in 2011. Digest that for a second. That’s just I’ve been depressed about this for 20 years, so don’t feel Yeah. Welcome to the club. So, yeah, the the crew over there, Elite Prospects, they do an amazing job. Um, I saw when when uh they were uh watching a video board before the game and it said uh Nick Fino born in 1987. I’m like this guy who everyone calls ancient and dead is 10 years younger than me. Mhm. 10 years younger than me. Yeah. Yeah. He’s cooked at at 30. I I’m almost uh uh you know as far as age range goes for the NHL and when your careers are over I think I’m approaching that time. I’d say more often than not players by 35 36 might be done on average. I mean Nick Felino I spoke with him a couple you know a couple of days ago and you can read it at all.com be a diehard you can read it. Um he feels great like I know he’s on an expiring deal. he probably doesn’t have a long-term future here in Chicago at all, but it doesn’t sound like he’s necessarily like, “Yep, this is my farewell tour.” Like he he feels confident that, you know, even being 38 years old or will be by the end of the month. Um he’s still got hockey to play. So, we’ll see how that pans out for him uh as time goes on. But, um yeah, I I I I think I’m getting close to NHL cooked age. You know what? you still got a shot for that. Yes, I’m I’m I could be just like Matt Grizzler. Um I would also recommend uh our friend Chris Peters and FL hockey so much hockey available on flowhockey.tv. Um they just got the they got the AHL, they got the CHL, they got um the eur they got the European leagues including the SHL with where Anton Fondell is playing. So, um, that is that is as far as viewing goes, that’s probably going to be your best place to go to to watch all of the non-NHL, um, players. And then I’d also shout out some people on on social media. Um, our guy Wall-E that runs, uh, Chicago Prospects, Wally Mick, I think he’s on top of it all for for Chicago. Um, Anthony uh, that runs the prospect. He’s all over prospects like turnurning out content. that dude is working his ass off. So, I I would say if you’re looking to get the deepest well of prospect knowledge um outside of what we can provide you at at best of our our abilities, those are some outlets that I would definitely um tap into as well. Yes, 100%. Yeah. and support those guys, you know, um Chris, Cam, Wall-E, Anthony, they all put in a ton of work and they they understand that their audience is very niche. Yeah. But yeah, so jump on any of those. Some are free, some are not. Use your uh use your own money, but uh there’s lots of good resources out there. It’s just is how much are you willing to invest in it? That’s that’s really the question, right? All right. Um, I know we’ve had a couple questions about this and I’m somewhat hesitant to talk about it, but it’s fun. Uh, apparently on Reddit over the last uh day or so, there’s been a leak of a supposed Blackhawks alternate jersey. It’s just like 35 minutes ago. Uh, I got sent this last night. Yeah. Um, yeah, it’s it’s it’s been on Reddit, but it’s about 24 hours. So, I’m a little suspicious of this. I will say the one where it shows the shoulder patch um next to the collar with all the Fanatic branding, that’s the one that has me convinced that this might be real. Um I have reached out to Blackhawks people and have not gotten a response from Blackhawks people about this. Um read into that as you will. I’m not, but you can. Um, the only thing I would say is the old black jerseys, and you pointed this out via text today, Mario, the the the Warrior head used to have a gold outline. Mhm. Now, fanatics can choose to do do it how they please, but I don’t know. So, and the Reddit user said, “This was sent to me by mistake.” They said that they ordered a Centennial Blackhawks home jersey. Yeah. And they were sent this. My hesitations. First of all, this looks exactly like the black alternate jersey that they were wearing right up until about 2009. Aside from the gold outlining on the Warrior. Well, no. So, I so I went back I I had to go back and look at some old pictures. So, when they wore them in like the late 90s, early 2000s, it had that that outline. But um like the ‘ 0809 season, it’s it’s that kind of logo where it’s not outlined in that in that in that fashion. It’s the same striping. Um my hesitation my hesitation as you see Sean’s getting a a picture of Blackhawks legend Cam Barker wearing it. Um fantastic research. Uh my hesitation on it is that this has no Centennial branding. I would imagine now I know the away jerseys are exactly the same. They’re not there’s no Centennial away jerseys, but I would imagine if they were rolling this out this season in the Centennial season, these jerseys would have some sort of Centennial touch-ups. They wouldn’t just be a reprint of what we saw 15 16 years ago. Yeah. And I mean, the point that Greg made in our in our chat that they wouldn’t promote this, that they would throw everyone off the scent that ah these jerseys aren’t coming back this year doesn’t make financial sense. Is that what Jamie said to you guys? Cuz Jim, I know she you mentioned the black jerseys to her. We’ve never been given a firm timeline. They said they have pretty much said it is coming back. Yes. We just don’t know when. And when we spoke last year, they said Fanatics is just catching up with getting the, you know, what am I saying? The standard home in a way is ready for every team. So, alternates are a big ass, especially with Winter Classics and everything. So, I I it would not shock me knowing the way the Blackhawks marketing mind works if they just took the ice in these one night and were like, “On sale now, back in black. Go get them.” Like, that would be awesome. that that’d be such a fun way to do it and to launch it. You’d have people immediately buying those. And I know Greg’s point when we were talking about it was, well, they don’t want to undercut the Centennial jersey. Well, you could reveal these in after Christmas or what or probably right before Christmas, actually. That probably it doesn’t have to be right away. Maybe they’re not seeing the sales of the Centennial jersey they thought they were going to see because it’s not super far off from the uh standard home. And I I actually saw the uh I was at Richard’s Sporting Goods yesterday. I don’t want to swear on the show. Um and they had the replica of the Centennial jersey and it does look cool with the gold outlining. It does. Yeah. But I would imagine there’s a certain amount of people that look at that and say not it’s not different enough for me to throw 300 bucks at it or 250 bucks at it or whatever. I don’t know. I J Ster saying wait until Black Friday. there there’s I mean hey the one thing that I would say is if they’re going to keep the black jersey around maybe that’s why they don’t do the gold outline because it’s not a hundth year thing and maybe it’s just going to be their third and if if if Fanatics if if it was for next season they probably have some made and mocked up and probably stocked in a Fanatic warehouse somewhere to get ahead of it. I want to give Fnatics a little bit of the benefit of the doubt. I got to say they’ve done a good job with the jerseys. Yeah, they haven’t changed anything. No one has compl no players have complained. Just do exactly what Adidas was doing and it’ll be fine. But that’s but that’s actually smart because everyone’s happy with the Adidas jerseys for the most part. They put their own little touches on it. I someone told me uh Chris Tanahill by the way told me that he thinks they fit a little more slim than the Adidas. So the cut might be a little bit different. Um, so there are small differences, but uh I to me I think it would be awesome with no warning, no fanfare, the Hawks just take the ice and maybe in the Blackhawk store at the game they’ve got like a tarped over the January uh you know and then they just as soon as Hawks take the ice they pull that tarp off the wall and there’s every player’s black jersey. There is a a tarped off banner uh hanging in the rafters. Maybe it’s a giant black jersey. That’s Isn’t it a cup banner? It’s It’s between the the three cup banners. I wonder I wonder why would it be another I mean unless they’re preemptively banners. Are they Are they Did they hang something there temporarily cuz they’re getting cleaned or something like that or was disturbed back or whatever it was. Yeah. Did they burn the jerseys uh banners? No. Um it was between the And it was bigger than the Stanley. It’s probably a Centennial season banner. probably if I’m if I’m being they are now claiming the Kings cheated in 2014 and they are the 2014 Stanley Cup champions. Real quick just looking at this difference too. I mean obviously they are different jerseys. This Barker one compared to this one you could just see in the collar like less of that collar extends down Barker. So that’s the style too, right? Like it’s a new Fanatics jersey. It’s not like an old one with just fanatic stuff stitched on it. Yeah. Yes. Exactly. December December 13th sold out uh CHDO Blackhawks takeover against against the Detroit Red Wings Mad House Centennial Celebration Night and Gate giveaway. Chris Chelios bobblehead to the first 8,000 fans. That Chris Chelios bobblehead is wearing a black jersey. I like where we’re going with this. See, Pepe Sylvia, everybody, those they are going they are going to wear those black jerseys unannounced against the Detroit Red Wings December 13th. Tag it. Bag it. And Windy City Hockey, the authority on Hawks jerseys. He has 768 uh Hawks jerseys. I really love his TJ Brody jersey he got last year. Uh he says with the stitching and everything, it looks one of a kind. So, and he is a Windy City Hockey is a fine tooth comb jersey connoisseur. He has a Cubs hockey jersey. Yes, he does. Yes. So, if he if it looks legit to him, I’m going with it. I mean, yeah, we’ll see. And again, I’m not reading into the no response thing. You can read into that cuz typically when I write these people, I get a response generally quickly. Blink twice. This was sent at like what 9:30 I sent this text. Hey, these are leaking online. Any comments, radio silence, usually anything like that, I get a pretty immediate response. I am not, for the record, Sean, tag this. I Jay Zawasi of Home of Illinois am not reading into the lack of response. Other people are welcome to. That’s all I’m saying. Was it 9:30 this morning or last night? This morning. This morning. Okay. Yes. So, it wasn’t someone was asleep. Yeah. Right. Right. I hope that’d be that’d be concerning. Conspiracy corner. Instead of Conor’s Corner, it’s Conspiracy Corner. All right, we’ve answered too busy trading Riel. There you go. Yeah. And it’s Jamie Falner’s fault that they’re trading. Yeah. Yes. All right. What other mail bags do we have? If in doubt, win Jamie Faulner. Yeah. Atomic Hawk. Atomic Hawk. I know. Go ahead. You’re closer. Okay. I know this season’s success is measured by how the kids do. Will Kyle Davidson be happy and management happy with him if they get 70 to 75 points but still finish in the bottom three? That almost seems ideal to me. But is performance for GMs measured more? Well, it’s gone. Uh so I think it’s fine. I I get the if they finish bottom three still, is Kyle Davidson in trouble? Is he going to be happy with with that response? I think the 70 to 75 point range is a big improvement. That’s great. year-over-year from what they had. Yeah. Um but and and to look around the NHL, the bottom three of the NHL, like there’s really only one team straight up tanking, or at least we think, and that’s Pittsburgh, but you still have Sydney Crosby. They could tank and still hit 70 points. You know, the Sharks, even though they’re not supposed to be really good, could still hit 70 points. This Blackhawks team, even though they’re not supposed to be really good, could hit 70 points. Nashville, are they bad or are, you know, was last season an anomaly or is it the norm? They only had 68 points last year. Yeah. Like these teams that are at the bottom of the league could all still be not not ass and get 70 points and then you get a bottom three where you know your your lowest team could be at like 65 66 points. Um last year for the record the Sharks had 52, the Hogs had 61. If you’re looking at who is like in the mid70s, Seattle had 76, Philly had 76, right? So, those are the only two teams in the league that finish in the seven No, no, I’m sorry. Boston had 76 and Buffalo had 79. Okay. So, could they be one of those teams? I think if I think if you if you’re looking at a 70 point season, that means you’ve added about five wins. That means you add basically you add up to a 30 win season. That’s all improvement. And if that’s happening, it’s likely on the shoulders of a lot of these young guys that are going to get more and more opportunities as the season goes on. It means things are going better than they did last year. And that’s really the measure of it. If this team looks terrible night after night and they get to 70 points, I mean, that seems weird, but you also kind of would be like, well, we should have been better, but we still were a lot better than we were last year. Like it’s a it’s it’s it’s it’s a weird way to kind of measure the improvement of the team. Yeah. And as we’ve said, like not so hung up on point totals and win totals as we are with the growth of the young players. Yeah. You know, I cuz you might have a huge season for like who knows like maybe Tavo has a career year or Tyler Bertusi has a career year and everybody else sucks and it gets the Hawks to 70 points. I’d much rather see noticeable significant growth from Nazar Renzel, Levinov in the debuts of Fondell or Bav or whoever and young guys feeling encouraging. That to me is more important than point totals. It’s like the way the season felt at the end of last year. Yeah. Is how I want this entire season to feel. And the way it felt honestly the last two preseason games is even like the Detroit loss at home. at home if that’s if that’s how the team looks most nights where they’re competitive like they just got goalie by Cam Telbot of all people but they played really well they had a really solid kind of a slow start but then figured things out and they were right there with the Red Wings like if that’s most for six on the power play yes and and it’s not like the first power play was a disaster we all tweeted about the slingshot and how much we hate it but then they ended up with 12 shots on goal on those six power plays and that was probably those are ongoal saves. That doesn’t mean you know um point shots that didn’t get through. They possessed the puck for the vast majority of those. So, right the and the power play was good last year and now you’ve added a full season in Aar Burkovski. I think it’s going to be better than people realize. Uh they’ve got more weapons now offensively. And I want to say too, I think one thing we haven’t really discussed too much is how good Ryan Donado looks. Yeah. Like he does not look he looks like last year’s version. Yes. Like at least so far. I I’m not saying 31 and 31 again, but I think the notion that last year was a complete anomaly like a Kurichev uh year where like he just popped for 50 for what was he had 60 54 points? 54. Yeah. By the way, I went back and listened to our prediction show from last year cuz we’re going to do it again. Well, we’re doing it again Monday. So, I want to make sure we We were spot on last year. We had every We We knew exactly what was going to happen last year. Okay. We were off on a couple things and they’re funny. So, we’ll share them. Uh, we all love Nashville last year, as did everybody. A lot of people did. And the three of us picked over 60 points for Philip Kurichev. Hey, let it play out. There’s still time. Oh, Lord. All right. Uh, yeah. Well, hey, you can you can see us be completely right 100% on our prediction show on Monday. Uh, the two of us and Greg will be in. Uh, so that’ll be a lot of fun as we will be beyond preseason hockey finally and one day away from the start of the regular season. I want to say Bejian by the way said they’re going to have six 67 points and it wouldn’t shock me if Frank Nazar is so committed to the 67 bit that they just say we got 67 points we got to stop winning. Yes. If it’s still if it’s still funny uh in April of 2026. I have a question. Is it even funny now? Yes. Yeah. I I don’t I find it hilarious. Lowski five. I had Kersev at 75 points. I absolutely did not have Kersev. Do not I will sue you. I did not say 75 points. I think we have that clip. I think you said Philip Kershv at 75 points. We’ll have 75. Actually said it right now. So I guess we have it now without a question mark. Yeah, just go by the transcript. There you go. Um yeah. Uh there was a question about the power play since power play we’re we just kind of talked about it a little bit. Um mailbag or mailbag mailbag. Uh let’s uh No, no, no, no, no. Next one. Uh yes. Uh so this was from GBubs says uh was at the game last night. So this would have been the the home game. It seemed very apparent the the defense, especially on the power play, were more likely to shoot from the point. Bard also had 10 shot attempts and was ramping up the one-times. Do you think this is a blastal systems effort and is akin to Carolina who will shoot from everywhere and will not wait for a perfect shot? Um, I did notice that on the power play Sam Renzelle and and Ardum Lechinov were firing a lot more. We’ve seen it a lot in in practice. I think it is a power play system structure uh tweak that they are giving more of the green light to the defenseman to put the puck towards the net and and hope for some good things to happen. And I think by doing that, specifically on the power play, if you have guys that are shooting threats like uh Renzel and Levino can be, that forces your opposition’s penalty killers to attack them uh to try and stop the the shot attempt. So where you can kind of it’s it’s kind of like in football, you use the runs to set up the pass. you can use the shot from the from the point from the defenseman on the power play to set up when the puck cycles to them that that penalty killer can then attack them to try and stop that shot cuz that’s what they’re anticipating and then you can lay it off to Bedard or Terrain or whoever’s on on the wing that they could be uh uncovered and then if it’s Bard like uh Gibbo was saying in the question like he’s ripping one-times a lot more than uh I’d say per 60 we saw uh then we saw a little bit last in the Stam Cosvichkin Paneran formation. So you if you can open that up to where the defenseman is is a threat for a shot to then a lay off and open up a lane for Baddard. I’m fine with that. Well, it just goes to so it’s like what we’ve been talking about too is you need another threat aside from Bedard and Nazar gives you that. And let’s be honest, like Levino and Renzel are good puck moving offensive defenseman that will be able to put up some points and Seth Jones was too, don’t get me wrong, but I I just think that this approach is much more about creating space for your wingers, trying to lure I think ideally if Jeff could draw it up, he wants, as you said, Mario, run the setup, the pass. He wants the point man, Le Sham Renzel, to lure defenders towards him. The A+ scenario on that power play is Connor Badard gets a one-time from the circle. Well, that’s how they that’s how they scored the goal against the Red Wings in the first game of the season was on the power play. Renzel was drawing the the defenseman in, laid it off to Baddard and and he buried it. So, yeah, I I I think that can be a tactic that can be uh effective when you have guys like Renzel and Levinov uh setting up someone who can be a shooter like Bard. All right, we’re going to wrap things up. Uh, a little reminder here. The Cubs and Padres’s are going to play at 4:08 today. Our CHCL Cubs show will have a live watch along throughout the game and of course a postgame following. Rally cake is already in the house courtesy of Portillos. Hopefully, it’s celebratory cakes. I didn’t get a burger. Are they gone? They’re all gone. There 12 there. How did you not get one? He was doing his show and then doing our show. He’s working hard. Crap, man. Text me. I’ll bring you one. I’ll just go get a burger on my way home. All right, fine. Uh, yeah. So, don’t miss the Cubs show. Uh, it’s going to be a good time. I said the Cubs are going to win yesterday, so I’m not going to say it today. And look what’s going to happen. I’m just saying. All right. Go Cubs. Let’s win this series. Get to the NLDDS. And from there, arrow pointed up. Onward and upward. I’m going to say this. The Cubs are getting a run today. A run at least. At least a run. I’m going on I’m going on going on on tape with that. Taking the over one half run. Yeah, that’s it’s a safe bet, I think. All right, we have postgame tomorrow and Saturday, so join us as soon as the game ends. And then after that, regular season begins. Let’s go. Thanks for being with us. Hit that like button on your way out. This is CHL Blackhawks powered by Bet 365.
