πŸ”΄ LIVE | Los Angeles Dodgers vs Cincinnati Reds | MLB Wild Card Game 2025 October 1, 2025

Go. And on the hill, Hunter Green. He’s got that splitter and it’s a pitch that swings and misses come fast and they come often. Very difficult to pick up out of his hand. Ready to go now. Mookie Betts will get us started. Short stop. Mookie bets. He swings and misses at the first pitch and one. Hard hit right side. Tosses to the pitcher covering the bag. One out in the top of the first. Time now for Dave Roberts lineup for the Los Angeles Dodgers. This is a veteran le lineup right here. A lot of players with plenty of experience. Singy. Yeah, no doubt about that, Boo. These players have been around the game for a long time and they may not have the flash that they once did, but they’ve got the wisdom to be able to understand different situations, be able to think with the opponent and sometimes in front of the opponent. And you always seem to see a team like this. They come to the ballpark. They know how to get down to business and they understand what the job is at hand. Swing and a pop off in foul ground. And there’s two down. Hey man, four pitches, two outs. That is an excellent base. Freddy Freeman. Here is Freddy Freeman. Obviously a guy who makes good contact, hits for average, but one of the things in today’s game, the value in the fact that he hits both righties and lefties. Breaking ball in there for a strike. They’re so reliant on the matchups nowadays, Chris, and it’s huge when you don’t have to sit a guy or platoon him. When you can hit, you know, both sides in terms of pitcher arms, you’re a guy that it’s hard to take out of the lineup. And I Well, got to pause on that thought as that’ll do it for the inning. We head to the bottom of the first. No score after a half inning. Back here at Angel Stadium on the hill here today, show Otani. Chris, how about a scouting report? It’s always interesting to see how he utilizes all of his pitches and how many of those he has a good feel for on that given day. And when he’s right, he’s really able to keep hitters guessing. And all of his stuff seems to be coming out of the same arm slot, the same tunnel, and that can make life very difficult on his opponents. Bottom of the first and ready to hit now for Cincinnati. TJ Fredle. That one fouled off in the dirt. And the count is one and one and misses inside. That one fouled off. Two and two. swings and misses. Struck him out. Good pitch right there. I mean, he’s attacking a location that this guy at the plate tends to have trouble with. And there’s just so much information in this day and age. Sometimes too much information. But the guys that can take that information, process it, and then go out there, boo, and execute the pitch, go right after that hitter and get the result that they were anticipating. That’s really good pitching right there. And it’s a good job of the pitcher and the catcher working together. He gets there with the slide, the throw, and save. He busted it down the line for that infield single. good hustle. And we’re talking about an emerging leader on a team, those are the things that are going to be necessary for him to do to set that example, you know, game in, game out. So, man aboard next for Cincinnati, Matt Mlan in for a strike. 0 and one. I love this part of the game. Does he really want to try and steal second against this catcher? I know he’s fast, but it’s pretty risky. He’ll runner on the move. Strike in there. And that’s a stolen base. Not even close. When your catcher is not a great thrower, you have to do a better job at controlling the running game. And that’s throwing over. That’s stepping off. Doing whatever you can to try to keep that base Steelers rhythm up. Well, they weren’t able to do it right there. They’re going to have to make some type of adjustment or players are going to be running all game. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. That’s out number two. He had him out in front which isn’t easy to do against a hitter like this known for using the entire field. Just couldn’t sit back long enough on that one. So, the go-ahehead run in scoring position. Here’s the Red’s catcher, Tyler Stevenson on the ground and foul ball. Strike two. Boom. That’s cheddar, baby. Two strikes. Dela Cruz on it. Second with two down. That missed by a lot. going to count one and two. Now a pop up on the infield. Freeman sizing this one up. Squeezes it. That is the inning. So one left for Cincinnati. Scoreless after one. Second inning, set to go. Now at the plate to Oscar Hernandez. Green back to work. Green an allstar a season ago. He features a four seam fast, a slider, a splitter, and occasionally mixes in the slur. any one just missed. Eric Summersgill with home plate duty of this one. Kind of known for being generous with the corners, Chris. You know, I think that used to be a lot bigger deal in past eras where pitchers were working more in and out with their pitches, but yeah, we’ll see if those corners come into play in this one. Hey, no pitchers going to argue at all. Last couple of pitches breaking balls away. I think he’s going to have to come firm inside to be able to open up that location if he wants to go back there later in this count. That’s off the mark. Three and one. Late on that fast ball. I would throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. And he walked him. And that’s how they get their first base runner of the game. What a battle. It’s not always easy laying off a 3-2 pitch. And I tell you what, he earned that walk. And up to the plate is Will Smith, first round pick out of Louisville in 2016. Whoa, that squirts away a little bit. Rudder at first with no outs here. Rudder takes off and that is out of play and that misses and a count two and one. Was good pitch there. really had some run and finished little up and end just on the edge and that’s one of those if you swing at it he had a broken bat as you jog back to the dugout that clips the corner. One way to make a guy real uncomfortable at the plate is pound him inside with good velocity. They’re doing that right here. No score here in the second. swings through it and that’s a strike out way out in front of that inside pitch there. Just exactly the opposite kind of approach that you want with two strikes. You want to let the ball travel. Make sure you recognize it. Try to shorten up so that you can at least put the ball in play. Clearly fooled, but I think even more so you question the two strike approach. And now it’s Maxy. And there’s a ball. One thing with Maxy, and it’ll be interesting to see what he throws here. He hammers the fast ball. The kick and the pitch. Runner goes. Ball misses. Throw to second. Not in time. He’s there easily. You know what? I like the aggressiveness right there. It looks like it’s going to be tough to score in this one. Really good pitching so far. So, why not try to put some pressure on them and see if you can steal the bag, get in the scoring position. Next pitch misses way outside and ball four to a board. Bell just came apart right there. Four pitch walk and guy at the plate was not going to help him out by swinging at something out of the zone. First and second, one out. And at the plate for the Dodgers, Andy Pahes. One out, runners at first and second. Two on, one out. Swing and a miss. Stuck him out. Some high keys for strike three. Just overmatched on that fast right there. And it wasn’t like he was set up for it by something off speed earlier in the at bat. Just came right after him with three straight and he had no answer for it. Michael Conffort will climb in. That one not close. Ball one. Swinging a foul back and that’s out of play. in for a strike. And now just one pitch away from surviving the inning. Goes down lowkey. A lot of adrenaline. We can see it right there. And sometimes you just got to let it out. That’s an outstanding job of taking that, executing, and getting out of a tough inning. Bottom half of inning number two. And now the right fielder Steuart Fairchild. All right. Sing. You know I’m a dork. Show Otani. Go back to May 5th, 2022 at Fenway Park. He tossed a complete game through 99 pitches. Get this, 81 strikes. It was the most strikes thrown with less than 100 pitches in a game since they started tracking pitch counts. That’s just unreal. I got a ball, one strike. Popped up to the left into foul ground. makes the grab. One away. Batting six. First baseman. Spencer. Spencer. Steer will hit next. That misses the zone and it’s one and0. Boo. He never moved cuz he never had time to. But that kind of velocity, you’d prefer that pitcher work away. And the one, that’s a ball. Fast ball in the inside corner for a strike. That one almost got him. Foul ball there. That’s ball four. Tried another sweeper but couldn’t find his own. Seven third base. Now batting Jame Chamer Candelario. Pickoff throw and he ties back in safely. runner on the goal. That’s in for a strike. Throw to second tag and they got him. Such a quick and fast swing of emotions right there. You get the runner on with the walk, which is great, but then picks a bad pitch to go on and you just erase the free pass that you were issued. I understand you want to be aggressive. You want to try to get in the scoring position, but you just have to be a little smarter there. Two out. Base is empty. And it’s even one strike. And the sweeper misses. Two balls, one strike. And now two and two. Two balls, two strikes. Just misses with that one. Really good take, especially with two strikes. ground ball right side. He takes it himself to the bag and that’ll do it. Nothing across here this half. We head on now to the top of the third. No score. Top half of the third inning. And at the plate for the Dodgers, Hung Kim swinging a foul back. That’s out of play. Outside low and it’s one and one. One and one. That’s ball two. Two balls, one strike. Next offering is fouled back. The healthy cut. Tough pitch at 98, but a really good pass at the ball. And it remains two and two. Fails another. And that’s three straight strikeouts. Back to the top of the Dodgers order. And up next for Los Angeles, Mookie Betts 0 for one so far. Sing. You talk about a guy that has all the skills. The range is really good, but the arm just stands out and he makes all the plays. And that one fouled off. And because of that big power arm, he’s able to play a little bit deeper, make throws from the outfield grass all the way across the diamond and still get a pretty good runner. That’s impressive. And a foul ball. That’s way outside. It’s a ball in two strikes. Make it four strikeouts in a row. Just cruising along. Tommy Edmond at the plate. He popped out his first time. Tommy Edmond. He swings and fouls one off. Next offering is in for a strike. Fouled off and they’ll do it again. Look out. And it hit him. He had two strikes on him and he hit him. Here comes Freddy Freeman up to hit. First time up was a pop out. When you’re taking your lead over there at first, you got to be very careful. This guy on the mountain’s got a good pickoff move. Fast ball in for a strike and it’s 0 and one. And one line drive. Nice grab. One left for LA. Still no score. Back in Anaheim. set for the bottom of the third. And now it’s Gavin Luxav that misses the zone and that is ball one. And that’s outside. No strike. Strike one. Two-1. Ball three. Three balls, one strike. way out front for strike two. We got a full count. 32. It’s a lead off walk and that’s the go-ahead run. Batting night left fieldielder and now it’s Austin Hayes. Hayes. That’s off the inside corner and that’s ball one. And that one fouled off. Swing it and a miss and the count is one and two with two strikes. May see some movement over there at first base. Trying to stay out of the double play right here. And a one, two, strike three. It’s a strike out for Otani. Came inside with that two- strike fast ball nicely and just bunched him up on the inside part of the plate. Couldn’t get around on it and catch it out front. Many times if you do, it’s a foul ball. And you know, a lot of pitchers, they really don’t like working inside with two strikes because they do not want to hit that batter. And when they’ve got him up against the ropes, got to figure out a way to put them away. Did a nice job right there. Next to hit, TJ Fredle swinging a foul straight back. Still tied at zero. Last of the third inside in now for the Reds. Ellie Dea Cruz reached on an infield single his first time. Ellie de Cruz. And that’s in there at the knees for a strike. Well, in this situation with runners on, you got to get ahead in the count so that you can dictate the rest of the at bat. Nice job right there. The short stop takes the ball. Good spot for the hitter. Definitely has the advantage in this count with runners on. Look for him to be aggressive on this next pitch. Runners at first and second with one gone here in the last half of the third. There’s a swinging a miss. They can live up in the zone all game if hitters will chase it. That’s just too much velocity. Hitters got to look down in the zone in the air left field down the line and it falls. Throw back in. holds the runner at third. Base is now loaded. Only one away. Second base. So, bases all loaded up. Here’s the second baseman, Matt Mlan. Golden opportunity right here. And his swing to miss. He’s looking for a ground ball to get a double play and out of this jam. Lux at third. Fredel at second. Dela Cruz at first. One gone. This one in the air center field. Edmond in position. Makes the grab. Runner tagging from third. In comes the first run of the game as the Reds take the lead. Sometimes all you got to do is your job and don’t over complicate things. Keep it simple. Runner third, less than two outs. Put the ball in play and a nice job with the sack flyer. Now Tyler Stevenson. Stevenson. It’s early, but these bats can impact a game just as much as they do later. Here’s a chance to set the tone early for your team. And there’s a foul ball. go Chris through the early stages. He hasn’t been very efficient in terms of the pitch count. He’s going to need to get some quick outs if he’s going to get deeper into this game. And now it’s even up. It is interesting though when you consider the way the game is run now. Doesn’t even matter that much if your starter doesn’t go that deep because teams are really aggressively building their bullpens. Got him swinging. They limit the damage here. Two men left stranded, but they do push across one. Three innings complete. It’s the Reds one and the Dodgers nothing. And we’re back. Here’s Tay Oscar Hernandez. Left fielder Teay Oscar Hernandez check swing called strike. Well, he’s been incredibly efficient in this one. First pitch strike percentage over 70%. That’s well above league average and that’s what’s allowed him to pitch well up to this point. Next one off the plate inside and it’s two and one. And that one is in for a strike. Probably the best one we have seen. Throwing it where he wanted to have a nice tight spin to it and a teaser just off the edge of the plate. That one misses. So, a leadoff walk that could jump start an offense that’s really struggle to score in this one. Don’t want to wake a team up with the free pass. Will Smith to the plate. He struck out swinging at his first at bat. And that is in for a strike. Going to one. There it was. A high velocity fast ball in the zone. I think a little frustration from walking the previous hitter. He’s got good stuff. Pitch inside the zone and trust it. Comes up empty. That’s strike two. That door slider is such a devastating pitch. You don’t want to get beat by the inside fast. So you cheat a little bit and then by the time it gets there, it’s out of the swing play. Got him. Swinging. That’s that classic wipeout slider below the zone right there. Just nasty. Looks like a fast thigh high that you got to protect the zone and then it’s just that late break that fools you and kind of makes you look silly. Here comes Maxie. Work to walk in his first trip to the plate. Green throws over. Hernandez dives back in safely. That one inside. And that’s ball one. The Dodgers still looking for their first hit in this one. Next offering is in for a strike. This guy’s got a great feel for his breaking ball today. And that one a little bit high. That’s a little bit low. Tying run is at first. Top half of inning number four. And a popup on the left side of the infield. Stevenson as this one sized up. And there’s two away. That was a good pitch to hit right down the heart of the plate. Had pretty good timing on it. Just got underneath it a little bit and popped it up. And next for LA, Andy Pahes. And that’s too high. A lot of pitchers have caught on to how good he is hitting the first pitch. Smart to avoid the zone right there. Pretty good pitch to take a pass at and a one count. Just not able to square it up. Two outs. And that’s way high and the count is even. Two and two. Got him. It is up to seven strikeouts. So the Dodgers leave one still behind by a count of one to nothing. And welcome back to the ballpark. John Chambi and Chris Singleton with you. And leading off the bottom of the fourth, Steuart Fairchild. bunch attempt, but that goes foul. Well, these Reds do a great job, Boo, of just waiting for the right pitch to come their way. And I’m seeing very patient at bats out of him. He’s only giving up one run, but the starter pitch count is starting to get up there, and that might be the best news yet for this offense. Yeah, that skips in the dirt. You know, sometimes all it takes is getting to the next arm before an offense does any damage. And that might be the case today. Fouls it off. Still one and two. And that’s in the dirt. Two strike. Still two and two after the foul ball. spoils a two- strike pitch and he’ll see another. Spoils that one and it remains two and two. That’s foul off to the right side. Keeps the AB going. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. He battled for a long time, but it finishes with a strike out. You can’t be mad at yourself after an at bat like that one. And now the first baseman, Spencer Steer. He reached out to walk his first time. That misses one and0. Just missed. Steer started. Let’s see if he gives him anything to hit here. There’s a strike. the 3-1 and that’s in for a strike. That count is full into center. Edmonds sprinting for this one. Brings it in with a nice running and grab and they’re two down. That’s just a really nice catch on the run right there. He’s safe extra bases for sure. If the pitcher’s his friend, he’ll give him a second to catch his breath before he’s ready to deal the next pitch. Candelario stands in with two away as he takes a ball. Swings through that one for strike one. Man, that was pretty gross right there. Next offering is in for a strike. Two down, nobody on. We’re here in the bottom of the fourth. And a swing and a miss. And that’s that. So they go quietly there. Onto the top of the fifth we go. It’s the Reds one and the Dodgers nothing back here at Angel Stadium. Now it’s the DH Michael Conorto. Conforto in his ninth season, 32 years old and he’s usually in the outfield. Today he’s the DH. Swinging a ground ball up the middle. That’s a base hit. So, a man on base to start the inning. Well, clearly he was ready to hit right there. Once you get the ball by the pitcher, there’s a lot of base hits up the middle, even on ground balls. So, a nice job to use that big hole and get himself a hit. And here is Hessen Kim. His first at bat was a strikeout. Swing and a miss. Oh, and one and fouled off. gets a piece there. We’ll do it again. Got him looking and he’s up to eight strikeouts in this one. Well, big strikeout right there and maybe a little controversial with the call. I think he got a little bit of favor on the mound. No question about it. It’s not exactly what you want to see in a big spot like that. And I’m sure there’s some chirping going on from the dugout making it clear that wasn’t his best call behind the plate today. Now it’s Mookie Betts for two in this one. Runner takes off. Tap foul at the plate. There’s a strike to fights that one away. And the count remains 0 and2. turns and fires the bats. Strike three and that’s two in a row. Oh, interesting. He’s looking very comfortable out of the stretch after giving up the leadoff single. Backto back strikeout. So, they haven’t been able to move that runner up, get him into scoring position and try to have a better chance of scoring. I tell you, good job so far on the mound. He just needs one more out. And here comes Tommy Edmond. He’s 0 for one. And the pitch is outside. Ball one. Hit in the air out to center field. And that’ll do it. Bottom of the inning. Now it’s the Red’s DH. Gavin Lux. Otani back to work. That one finds the corner. It’s 0 and one. Activity in the bullpen for the Dodgers. Michael Grove looks to be getting ready for manager Dave Roberts. Visia getting cranked up as well. Now this is in the air down the line. Hernandez ranging after it. Puts it away for the out. Now that in Austin Hayes getting ready to hit. He was a strikeout victim his first time. That one misses and it’s one and0. All one. No strike. And another ball. That clips a corner. Foul ball in the air. Right field. Pah on the move. He’s got it. And there’s two away. Now batting center fielder TJ. So the batting order turns over and ready to hit now for Cincinnati TJ Friedel. And that is downstairs one. And that one missing low. Ground ball up the middle. That’s a base hit. So a two out knock. Keeps the inning alive. Now the number two hitter, Ellie Dea Cruz. He’s two for two. Right through there for a strike. All one’s the count. Fredel off of first with two away. Late swing fouled to the left. gets a piece and stays alive. VS that off to the left and will do it again. Hit hard on the ground to short. They take the force out. That’s a third out. One hit, one left. We’re through five. It’s the Reds one and the Dodgers nothing. Back in Anaheim. There’s Freddy Freeman now. very humble guy and you know on the field off the field and he goes about his at bats in that way. Boogies you know just trying to stay with the plan and that plan is hit the ball to left center field drive the ball that way let it travel. Yep. All right. Now, he may have not liked either of those first two pitches or agreed with the umpire’s calls, but at this point, he’s going to have to bear down and be ready to hit anything close to the zone. Right side. Steer takes it to the bag. leadoff man retired in the sixth. Now batting left fielder. And now Tay Oscar Hernandez. So the Dodgers are going to have to try and come from behind and try and get that offense going. And he chases a high fast there. It really looks like these hitters have been in between with their timing today. Good fast ball. Excellent slider, but they’ve not been able to commit to one velocity and stay there. Two down. That was a good hard fast ball with some nice ride up in the zone right there. Hitter looked like he was on it, but I think that velocity at the end just beat him. Instead of a line drive or something hit deep, it’s a pop up and an easy out for the defense. Love how vocal the umpire is today. No doubt in the hitter’s mind, catcher’s mind, and even the pitcher’s mind as to the conviction in the call. Got him looking. That’s a strike out. So, another good inning for him on the mound. Six shutout innings now. It’s the Reds one and the Dodgers nothing now. Back now for the bottom of the sixth and there’s a new pitcher on the mound. Michael Grove. Pretty tight game. So they’re looking for quality pitches out of him right here. Got to do his best to keep the score right where it is. So digging in, Matt Mlan picked up an RBI in his last at bat. still their only run of the game so far. Check swing and he went and that is strike one. Well, these Reds really impressed me with the quality of their at bats in this one. It’s been fun getting a chance to see him go to work. They really made that opposing starter work in this one. Ran his pitch count up and now they’ve got an opportunity to continue making things difficult on the bullpen. Fires over to first and that’s one out as they get the leadoff hitter in the sixth. Now batting catcher Tyler Stevenson. Tyler Stevenson the next to hit for the Reds. A swing and a miss. And that’s strike one. The Dodgers bullpen with some action. Michael Copek preparing to come on if needed. One down. Base is empty. Fouled off left side. Fights it off. If you’ll see another and that skips in the dirt. Two straight on the inside corner for called strike three. Well, just excellent location on that inside fast ball. Really locked him up. And as a hitter, it’s not typically what you’re looking for. You’re trying to protect away and then in. So, you can be a little bit tardy with two strikes. Hard to tell if he was fooled or if he thought it would be called a ball, but either way, that’s a really nice pitch. Two outs. Space is empty. The batter now Steuart Fairchild. First pitch misses. Counts one and0. Two down, nobody on here in the bottom of the six. Inside and now two and 0. Swing and a tapper. to first. Three up, three down, inning over. So, they make short work of them there. We’re through six full. It’s the Reds one and the Dodgers nothing. And we’re back. We go to the top of the seventh. Here’s Max Muny. That funky Mie. A lot of times you’re looking for a guy to get that tying run on base, but because of the power, you want him to tie up the game with one swing here. And the first pitch misses for ball one. Hitting is all about anticipation and right now this lineup is struggling with it. Their swings are mistimed and it’s produced a few ugly cuts here and there. At 96 that pitch is in for a strike. Well, I’m impressed with that challenge pitch right there. Even with this slim lead, this guy’s not afraid to go right after these hitters. Looking to get the tying run on base. That one missed. Next offering is downstairs. And that one is lifted in the air. It falls in and that’s a knock. And the tying run is on with a leadoff single. Now backielderielder. Dominant performance for him today. Boo. Just two hits allowed so far. No runs across either. and he’s had an answer for just about every hitter he’s faced. So, I don’t think this hit is going to knock him off his stride too much. So, up next, Andy Pahus, who’s 0 for two with a pair of strikeouts. And the first pitch fast is in for a strike. I really like how he’s been attacking hitters early in at bats. He’s thrown strikes on the first pitch to over 70% of the guys he’s faced in this one. trying to hold a one-run lead here in the top half of inning number seven. Late that time, it’s strike two. Quick play at an 02 count. You got to figure out a way to shorten your patch of the baseball. Put it in play somewhere. Then you got a chance. Foul ball still 0 and two. The pitch. Nope. That’s inside. got him. Loki and he keeps putting up the K. That’s number 11. Well, he’s going to have some thinking to do when he leaves the ballpark after this one. That was his third strike out and this one looking obviously. So, he’s been a little overmatched. He’s got to find a way just to be more competitive up there at the plate. Here comes the skipper and we’re going to see a pitching change in this spot. Hunter Green will depart. Really solid performance out of him as he leaves with a slim lead. We’ll take a break. New arm when we get back. Now pitching. So a new arm out of the bullpen for the Reds. Taylor Rogers. These are the spots relievers really make a name for themselves. Late and close. There’s not much margin for error, but at the same time, there’s a reason they’re put in these situations. And here is Michael Conforto. One for two. Off the mark there. Ball one. and then misses off the outside edge. Oh, he’s really working him away this at bat. Sometimes take a little bit off velocity. Try to get a roll over something on the ground. Stay away from that big hole on the right side of the infield. That one misses. And that’s ball three. This is a really good feeling for a hitter at this point in the ball game. you know that they don’t want to walk you. So, you’re going to get a pitch to hit. You just better not miss it. And ball four, two aboard. He did not take the bat off his shoulder the entire at bat. Hess Kim. So, the tying run in scoring position. Now, Hess Kim now at the plate. This is what stat nerds like myself might call a high leverage situation. Yeah, Boo. Not sure what the numbers say, but clearly an at bat that could change the course of this game dramatically. And that misses and that is ball one. One out. The possible tying and go ahead runs on base. Yeah, that’s fouled off. and that’s down and away at the dish looking to lift the ball in the air in spot. Anything but the inning ending double play boo. We got a full count. Mookie bets in the onex circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. Muny the lead runner out at second. Confor at first with one away and they’re all loaded up. Oh, that sets up a really big at bat in this game. These are the moments when everyone in the stadium gets really locked in. Mookie bets digging in in a huge spot. 0 for three in this one. Right through there for a strike. Tough situation right here. So important as a pitcher to get ahead in the count as he did right there. swings and misses and the count is 0 and two. One out. The go ahead run is at second. Hard hit but right at him and left. Here comes the throw and he’s safe. Tie ball game. Good piece of hitting right there. He’s thinking off the bat that’s getting down for extra bases. But nice job of the outfielder running it down, making the catch. Still comes away with the sack fly though. RBI. Here’s a switch hitter Tommy Edmond. Ball game is still tied. They can get out of this inning with a tie game. Two outs, couple of base runners at first and second. fought off. Foul. Oh, that plunked him. And that’s now twice he’s been hitting this one. Next for the Dodgers. Clutch situation. And here comes one of the best hitters in these spots, Freddy Freeman. And that one fouled off. Two outs. Next offering is outside. Got him. In and over. And it could have been worse, but they’re able to even it up here in the late innings. Midway in inning number seven. And it’s time to stretch. All tied 1-1. And welcome back to the ballpark set for the last half of the seventh. And now here is Spencer Steer check swing. And that’s a ball. swing and a miss and it’s one and one. There’s a certain point where you have to commit to what you think you see and he guessed wrong right there. Nasty slider with just terrific bite at the end. Next pitch is downstairs. Just missed. It’s a lead off walk and that’s the go-ahead run. Second walk of the game for him and he’s been really patient at the play. A game plan that he’s sticking to. He’s just not going outside of what he’s looking for up there. Stepping in Jr. Candelario. Ground ball right side. Could be two. Off balance feed. There’s one on to Freddy. Double play. They made that double play look so easy, but it was far from routine. That’s the one thing about big leaguers. They make tough plays look simple. Gavin Lux the next to hit for the Reds just off the outside edge and that’s ball one. Two down. Doan swaging a ball hit out towards left center field and it falls. Now batting. I don’t know how he’s able to shoot that pitch the other way and still put something on it. That pitch was inside and he let it get really deep. So pretty incredible hands to fight it off and still get good wood on it. Now the left fielder Austin Hayes and a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike. Two gone. The possible go-ahead run at first. Just missed. One and one and it is two and one. Swinging a ground ball up the middle. Tosses to first that ends the inning. So, no runs in the inning despite the leadoff walk. And that does it. Eighth inning coming up. All tied 1-1. Welcome back. And a new arm on the mound to start the eighth. Emilio Pagan. Now pitching for the Reds. Number 15, Emilio Teascar Hernandez steps to the plate for the Dodgers. Leftiel Tasks Hernandez first offering and it just misses. Well, a mistake right here could untie this ball game. If you’re the pitcher out there, you just want to be a little more cautious. That’s in there. And a count. One and one. Activity in the bullpen for the Reds. Alexis Diaz up and throwing for Terry Francona. And a count one and two and misses. It’s a strike out. Well, we saw a solid effort out of their starter and the bullpen is following suit. It’s just a good day as a manager or as a pitching coach when you can hand the ball off to multiple arms and get stability from all of their performances. The batter now will be Will Smith. Late swing, fouled off. One out. Base is empty. on the ground right side and a couple of quick outs. Well, there’s a lot riding on that at bat right there. Nice job of the pitcher to bear down, make the pitch, get the ground ball. Excellent piece of work. Here comes Max Mudsy. This guy with light tower power. He’s not going to get cheated up there. No, he’s not. He’s looking to do damage with every swing he takes. on the ground to the left and that’s a fair ball. Now he’ll turn for second in with a double and the go ahead runs at second with two out. Oh no waiting around right there. He was ready to swing it on the first pitch. He smashed that ball the other way and kept it fair down the third baseline. Did an excellent job of just throwing the barrel at the ball even though he was a little late on it. Now a good opportunity to potentially jump ahead in this game here in the later innings. Andy Pahz steps to the plate for the Dodgers 0 for three with three strikeouts. Fouled off. He was late. Two down. Go ahead run and score in position. Bounce to the right side to first save and runners at the corners after the infield single. Well, from the time you’re a little leaker, you’re taught to hustle out of the box and give it a full sprint through the base regardless of how you hit it. And he didn’t make great contact, but the effort was there and he earns the base hit. The batter will be Michael Conforto. That’s in there. 0 and one. 0 and one. And fouled off. field two. One ball, two strength. swing and a miss at the splitter and it’s a strike out. He’s in a tough spot. Had to make a great pitch. Did it. Got the strike out. Gets out of the jam. Clearly he’s happy with those results. Now pitching back now. New pitcher on the mound as we roll into the bottom of the eighth. Tanner Scott. And we all know about his slider. It’s just filthy, man. And one of the better ones in the game, I’d say. Spin rate’s very high and it just breaks a tongue. Freedle. Fedel in the box now takes strike one. No need to offer that pitch until you get to two strikes. It’s just a low percentage of success when you want to try to go after that down and away pitch that misses the zone. One ball once strike. And that is out of play in there. Got him looking for the K. He’s got to be frustrated with that call. Got a little bit of a questionable call on that fast ball right there. It appeared to miss off the outside just a little bit according to the electronic strike zone, but that’s the type of location where you kind of have to understand that it’s close enough to where you don’t want to put the fate of your bat in the hands of the umpire. He did and it got burned. One down. Base is empty. That’s a ball. Activity in the bullpen for the Dodgers. Alex Via looks to be getting ready for manager Dave Roberts. The 1-1 inside. Just missed. Swinging a miss. And it’s two and two. Two down. Keeps the advant going with a foul ball. Outside corner. Got him looking. Well, it’s just a great job of playing catch with the catcher. Exactly where the catcher set up is where he threw that pitch. and probably pulled the umpire a little bit because there was no budge at all. Next for Cincinnati, Matt Mlan and a breaking ball drops in for a strike. Scott 30 years old now and he was a sixthround draft pick back in 2014. just missed. Pitch misses there. And that’s ball two upstairs. Tyler Stevenson in the deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. That one’s in there. Counts full. Three and two. Three and two. That’s a good at bat right there. He was down early in that plate appearance. Works the walk. One of the things about that two-out walk, the base runner over at first base is going to have a very aggressive secondary lead. So, a ball down the line or into the gap will produce a two out RBI. And those are the best. That is if you are the offensive side of it. Stevenson the next to hit takes high for ball one. The two out walk. Got to erase that and really go to work on the hitter. You got to go ahead and just let him steal if he’s going to try to create the swing and miss and get out of this jam. And that one fouled off. And you wonder is he in his head a little bit? Even if the base runner doesn’t steal right here, what’s great is that he is dividing the attention of the pitcher and may serve to give his teammate a better pitch to hit at the plate. Stewart Fairchild in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here with a go ahead run at first here in the bottom half of the eighth inning. Tapped at the plate, but it’s a foul ball. Back when you played, it wasn’t the empirical data we have now. It was a guy with a ruler and a diamond taking a colored pencil and drawing a line where he thought someone had hit. Swing and this one’s blasted. It’s got a chance onto the track and he makes the catch. So, it’s no runs, no hits, no errors, and one left on. Ninth inning coming up. All tied 1-1. All set to start the ninth in this one. And at the plate for the Dodgers, Hung Kim. Now, this guy, a player that if he gets on base, has the ability to really be aggressive getting around the base paths. Pagan back to work. Late swing fouled to the left. Trying to keep good speed off the bases. Close but called a ball and one and one. Home played umpires trying to tighten things up a little bit and a count one and two. That’s down and in. That’s a really good take. Swing and a miss. And he is down on strikes for the third straight at bat. Move. If you can set up a good two strike splitter with the fast ball on the previous pitch, it’s going to be so tough to recognize and adjust your swing to get a piece of it. Clearly had him reaching for it right there. Here’s Muki now known for his late inning heroics. That one’s upstairs. Ball one. Swing and a foul out of play. All tied up here in the top of the ninth. popped up and there’s two down. Still two down now. And here is Tommy Edmond. Had a strike in there. Oh, that’s inside. next offering upstairs. We got two balls, one strike. And downstairs, Freddy Freeman in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. Swing and a pop off in foul ground. Candelario brings it in and that’ll do it. Three up, three down for him there. 5, six, and seven will lead things off in the bottom of the ninth. All tied 1-1. Back now as they hand the ball to a fresh arm to start the bottom of the ninth. Blake Trinan now pitching for Los Angeles. Number 49, Blake Trinan. And now Steuart Fairchild, right fielder Stewart Fairchild. Yeah, there’s the strike. Swinging a miss as he was late. Action in the pen down there. Kirby Yates looks to be getting ready for manager Dave Roberts. The O2 line drive base hit off to a good start with a lead off nine. I’d say a mistake pitch in an 02 count. Too good of a pitch to hit right there. You have to expand the zone. Keep that leadoff man off first base. Now it’s going to be Spencer Steer corner infielders up on the grass expecting a bunt. Shortened a bunt and missed it and it’s 0 and one. You can see they’re really trying to move that winning run into scoring position. Try to get that sack bunt down. Really have to make this out count. Popped up, reaching for it. Makes the catch. Now batting third baseman, Jamer Candelario. Jamer Candelario the next to hit ball with pretty good speed over there at first base. I think the pitcher’s got to slow everything down. Hold the ball a little bit. Step off. Just try to break the rhythm and timing. Runner on the goal. Pitch in for a strike. Go to second and save. And the winning run is now in scoring position. That was close, but Stackcast shows us why he so often seems to be on the safe side of these steel attempts. Chris, yeah, you see that plus speed and he needed every last bit of it to swipe that bag. Such a threat on the bases. Liner and this could be trouble. Runner around third on his way to the plate. Across is the winning run and they walk it off. You know, you had to feel the pressure. A winning run on second base. Found a way to make solid contact and the winning run comes across to score. Everyone going crazy. Exciting finish to this game today. And your final score here today, 2-1 for Chris Singleton and our entire crew. I’m John Shabi saying so long. Heat. Heat.
