Jonathan Gannon and QB Kyler Murray Postgame – 9.21.24 | Week 3 vs. 49ers

Okay. Um, on an injury front, uh, James Connor had an ankle, was not able to return. I think Zavven got checked out, but he could come back in the game. So, um, good hard fought game, good football team. We didn’t ultimately do enough what we needed to win. Um, starts with me. So, we got to get to corrections quickly, play better football. Um, I just told them when they wake up tomorrow, uh, we got to move on because we’re playing in about four days here. So, um, that’ll that’ll be, uh, we got to handle that week and do a good job leading up to Thursday. So, but we got to take a good hard look in the mirror and play better, you know. So, it starts with me. So, with that, what do we got? Yeah, it happens. You got to just be trained. I don’t know. He’s got an ankle. Yeah. you know, I think, you know, without watching the tape, which that’s a bad answer, like I think we got to do a little bit better. You know, that we got to, you know, make sure that we stay on the field. I thought we moved it well. Didn’t come away with a lot of points. Um, generated some explosives which led to some points there. So, that’s always good. Um, you know, had a chance to win the game there at the end and the kid made a good play. Honestly, 20 made a hell of a play there. So, um, I think not just the offense, all all three phases got to do a little bit better. few plays where you guys weren’t able to come down with the wide receivers. Uh I’d have to watch the tape. You know, they’re playing bunch of zone. Um so, you know, we got to see if guys are open and they’re, you know, make sure that we can throw it to him when he’s open when they’re open. Yeah, we got obviously that’s a a fundamental of playing football that we have to do better because it bit us today. We definitely had a couple drops in there that hurt. Um that that that it happens. But when those things do happen, that’s what leads to winning and losing. Those are the margins we’re talking about. We all just got to play a little bit better. Uh good. I I do. You know, obviously their roles change right there. I know Trey had the explosive run. That was good call. Good run. Um you know, we’ll we’ll see moving forward. you talked about. Um, no, probably not. Honestly, my gut after not watching I don’t know what the stats are. I know we had the one explosive, but um you know the the runs that are going for nothing have to we have to be more efficient with those. So, I don’t know how many of those were, but it felt like a lot of times it was second and 10 after a run like it set you behind the sticks. So, um, just got to do a little bit better. Uh, you know, I I I was I was pleased with the violence there. You know, they at the end of the game, they hit a couple explosives and they got down in the range, you know, a little too quick. Had a chance to win a game there. Um, you know, I thought they they fought hard versus a good team. Um, we’ll see what we can get cleaned up there. I don’t know. I I I wasn’t real pleased that PCEL is a good player. Hats off to him. I thought he had too much today, honestly. So, that’s that’s collectively all of us. Uh, I have no problems with the offensive play calling. Never will. I know exactly what we’re calling. So, if you got a problem with that, you should look to me. frustrated, you know, um felt like we let that one slip. Uh we did let we did let it slip. Another another game we had opportunities to kind of put a game away. Um and we all, you know, we all just got play better. got to make plays. Got to make plays when they’re there. Um myself included. You know, everybody’s obviously feel like defense did enough for us to win the game and we didn’t uh we didn’t finish the job. And that’s uh again I’ve been telling y’all, you know, and today um it’s unfortunate, you know, it’s uh we got to get right. We got to get right. If we want to go, we want to go. We got to get right immediately. What were the aspects of the off that you felt like could have been better to make that difference? I mean, we had plays there. We had plays there throughout the game that um you know, I know I know I’ve seen our guys make. I know um you know, again, it’s myself included. Uh we all just got to be better. Um but when you’re playing better teams, you’re playing better opponents, can’t afford to, you know, let those let those happen just because, you know, you got you get a chance to put your foot on the throat. You have to. And um you know today obviously it ended in a a walk-off field goal. It was that close. You know we had multiple opportunities I feel like to kind of put that game away. Um yeah it’s frustrating. What do you mean? I mean uh I got to see it. I got to watch it. I I haven’t seen the video of it. um thought he caught the ball, you know, but other than that, you know, obviously um you know, it was incompletion. So, yeah, it’s you know, that’s uh it’s unfortunate. Um just, you know, not only is he my teammate, you know, I feel like that’s that’s a brother of mine just to, you know, see him go down like that. Um you know, you never want to see that. I understand it’s part of the game, but it’s uh it’s it’s it’s not what, you know, it’s not ideal, you know, um all the work that he puts in and uh just who he is as a person. You don’t want to see him get hurt like that. Uh you know, so it’s uh yeah, it’s uh it’s tough. We got to continue to go. We got to continue to get better um and be able to we got to be able to run the ball. Yeah, I mean JC JC’s uh he’s everything means everything. Um you know I can’t I really don’t want to talk about it right now. Immediately I go to you know myself as far as you know how the ball come out uh ball placement um things of that nature. just, you know, the, you know, the little nuances of playing the position. I feel like, uh, you know, could I have given him a better ball? Was it wobbling? Um, you know, so again, I got to watch the film. Um, but I I I think that our players, you know, we we all we all can be better and I expect those guys, you know, um, again, myself included, make those plays. How do you approach short? Yeah, we gota, you know, we got to let this go. As hard as it is to feel like, you know, we let one slip um against a banged up 49ers team, you know, uh play on Thursday. So, you know, this is we got to put this behind us and get ready for Thursday. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, got no choice, you You know, I told I told him, I mean, uh, I’m going to continue to come at you. I mean, uh, one lose a draw, I’m going to continue to give my guys a chance. Um, that’s just the confidence I have in them. Um, and I know nine times out of 10, he’s going to make that play.

  1. I hate the prevent offense

You needed 3 first downs after the INT to bleed the clock and kick a FG, you got none. You needed 2 first downs after the safety and got one. You couldn't control the clock in the 4th quarter in the first 2 games.

    The prevent offense prevents wins.

  2. C'mon, man. Gannon wouldn't keep Drew around if he thought Kyler was running the scheme correctly. Problem is it doesn't work. And the onus should be on the uproven OC to maximize the qb's skills, whether the scheme works in theory or not. Drew seems to be married to his scheme, not to Kyler's maximization of play. Gannon must agree. Drew knows his vanilla scheme can thrive with the right decisions. Zero dynamism if it's not run hyper-proficiently, though. They will die on this hill. Gannon's ego seems too massive to admit that though there nothing inherently wrong with the oil, and there's nothing inherently wrong with the water, he was the one who insisted they'd mix well.

  3. Whelp… With the draft approaching, we should looking into some upgrades. Maybe WR, QB, and Oline.

    OMG!!!! I cant believe I'm saying this…

    I miss Kliff…

I'm a DC native so this stings lol

    Go Cards

  4. I don’t know where to begin drop passes, but you’re not throwing to receivers when you should be throwing to receivers to build their confidence. Yes, they should’ve caught those passes. But when they were down at the end zone, it was third and less than a yard. I want to repeat on this and I am not a cardinal fan. I want to say that. What do you do you go back and you try to throw a pass and you almost get sacked in the end zone for a safety instead of trying to do a tush push with the back up quarterback because Kyler Murray is not big enough to do the push and that’s all they needed to do and they were to have the first down and they would’ve got three more downs. They may have had a punt, but it would’ve made a difference who knows they may not have had the punt the ball. We will never know. But it could’ve made a difference for the Cardinals if they would’ve done that so I blame the coach for that call to throw the ball when it was less than a yard for a first out. I understand you’re in your own end zone area. But you had less than a yard all you had to do is bring in the back up quarterback, and you might’ve got the first down and then you could’ve brought back in Kyler Murray, who might’ve went down the field scored a touchdown or even another field goal to put the game where a touchdown was needed to beat you, but that didn’t happen so I blamed the coach for losing this game. I blame also the receivers for dropping the balls when they should have caught them but when you don’t have confidence is exactly what I heard on another news station. How do you expect to build confidence when you don’t get the ball until the second quarter. And maybe the coverage was that good and that person wasn’t open but there’s always a way to make it possible for that person to get open to get the ball to them. How do you blame Kyler Murray for a little bit of the game because he should’ve been out of the box Not in the end zone at all and he should’ve thrown the ball pass the scrimmage where it wasn’t questionable, whether it was intentional grounding, but that didn’t happen either this whole team needs to get a lot better and a lot more confident on offense than what I saw today and I know what happened to James. Connor is really bad but you can’t let that affect you when you play the game

  5. Mostly an execution thing than scheme although I think they can lean into passing more in general. If 3 catches were made that should have been, this is an easy W. Would have 1 if not 2 extra TDs. Also if Ryland had made that kick they probably win as well. Defense did great again. Benson looked good but we need to feed Treyquan more

  6. They were up by 2 with the ball! I said to myself the only way they lose this is commit a horrible turnover or completely mismanage the game.

If they couldn’t score, fine. But to not even drain the 9ers TOs and get the clock down under a minute is indefensible.

  7. 49ers are not 49ers of 3 years ago and depleted. Horible loss
Seahawks will beat us by over 20. Totally manhandled last year twice.
Drafted defense for 4 years none have impact

  8. 3 poorly played games. Boring inefficient offense. If JG says he’s got no problem with the offensive play calling then it maybe time for both him and DP to move on. You must be able to do more than talk about it, whatever JG’s goal is, it’s not transferring to the play on the field….and against a beat up 49er team. Ugggh

  9. Welp…. yall tried to to give away the game each of the first 3 weeks and this time your opponent obliged. Who the hell is testing the wide receivers gloves with WD 40? Let all the Kyler detractors start talking live any of this is on him.

  10. Drew Does not Know how to use all the offensive weapons he has, Where is the Passing Game , you Have to get them in rhythm. Gannon is Loyal to Drew But He could be the Guy that Gets him fired. They Talked a'lot about Personal Accountability Gannon needs to put the Blame where it Belongs (DREW)

  11. Even Gannon covers his mouth when talking! Why is petzing still not covering his mouth when calling plays? Teams hire lip readers for this reason! Petzing shouldn’t wonder why his offense is struggling
