Titans’ Brian Callahan giving up play-calling duties a red flag | Pro Football Talk | NFL on NBC
AND THE TITANS. WHAT. FEEL BAD FOR BRIAN CALLAHAN. SEASON. NEW GM. NEW HAD A FOOTBALL OPERATIONS. DO NOT ASK FOR WHOM THE BELL TOLLS. THE BELL WILL SOON BE TOLLING FOR YOU AND IT’S SOME VERY TO UNDERSTAND THE BASIC RULE FOR WHAT CONSTITUTES A CATCH. AND NOW, THE PLAY CALLING DUTIES HAVE BEEN GIVEN UP NOT TO THE OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR BUT TO BOW HARD AGREE, THE QUARTERBACKS COACH OF THE TEAM CALLAHAN IS 3 AND 17. THEY’VE LOST 9 GAMES IN A ROW. THIS JUST FEELS LIKE A DESPERATION MOVE TO DELAY AS LONG AS POSSIBLE. WHAT FEELS LIKE AN INEVITABLE INNSEASON. FIRING CHRIS. WELL, ALL RIGHT. SO, YES. I I MEAN THERE, THERE’S OBVIOUSLY SOME ISSUES. IT DOESN’T LOOK GOOD IN ABOUT THAT. LIKE, YOU JUST TALKED ABOUT, I MEAN, THE WAY LAST YEAR, ENDED ABOUT THEM, MAYBE NOT BEING TOUGH ENOUGH THAT CERTAINLY DOESN’T LOOK GOOD. THEN THIS YEAR, YES, WE GET NOT A GREAT UNDERSTANDING OF AN ELBOW DOWN. INBOUNDS IS WORTH 2 FEET, RIGHT? WE HAVE THAT BLUNDER LAST WEEK AND THEN DON’T REALLY EXPLAIN IT OR TALK YOURSELF OUT OF IT. REALLY THE RIGHT WAY AND MAKE YOURSELF. MAYBE LOOK A LITTLE WORSE. THEN LAST WEEK, WE HAVE AN END OF THE HALF. I MEAN JUST ABSOLUTE DEBACLE AND HOW THEY HANDLE THE SITUATION AND THEN KICK A 60-YARD FIELD GOAL 62 WITH ENOUGH TIME ON THE CLOCK TO BE LIKE, HEY, IF WE DON’T MISS THIS, HEY, COLTS. GO AHEAD AND GET A FEW MORE POINTS AND JUST PUT US OUT OF OUR MISERY. SO THAT IS ALL LIKE, WHOA, THAT DOESN’T LOOK GOOD ON THE HEAD COACH. THE OTHER WEIRD THING IS WHAT YOU JUST SAID HERE. WHAT THE OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR IS NOT CALLING THE PLAYS, THAT’S THE NEXT GUY IN THE PECKING ORDER. HOW DOES THAT WORK TO ME AGAIN? AND I DON’T KNOW THIS, BUT I’M JUST GOING TO THROW THIS OUT THERE BECAUSE I’VE BEEN AROUND FOOTBALL FOR A LONG TIME AND KNOW A LOT OF DAMN PEOPLE THAT LOOKS LIKE TO ME OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR NICK. HOLTZ WAS LIKE, UH, UH, UH, YOU’RE NOT PUTTING THIS ON ME SO I CAN CALL THE PLACE FOR THIS TEAM NOW, AND AND THEN I CAN NEVER BE IN OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR ANYWHERE AGAIN OR BE A HEAD COACH EVER. YOU GO AHEAD AND MAKE SOMEBODY ELSE CALL THE PLAYS CUZ I DON’T KNOW IF THIS IS GOING TO WORK. NO MATTER WHAT, RIGHT, LITTLE ODD. AND I WOULD LOVE TO HEAR SOMEBODY ASKED THAT QUESTION. HOW DOES IT GO FROM THE OC TO THE QUARTERBACK COACH? THAT MAKES NO SENSE. SO, ALL A LITTLE WEIRD RIGHT NOW, IN TENNESSEE, MIKE. CALLAHAN JUSTIFIED, THE MOVE BY SAYING IT’S MORE. SO I CAN SEE THE REST OF THE GAME. SEE THE BIG PICTURE BETTER AND DO A BETTER JOB OF IT, WHICH ONLY UNDERSCORES THE FACT THAT HE DIDN’T KNOW. GETTING YOUR ELBOW DOWN, COMPLETES THE PROCESS OF MAKING A CATCH AND ANYBODY SHOULD KNOW THAT 1, THE EQUALS 2 FEET, THAT’S HOW JOHN MADDEN. USED TO SAY IT. BUT IT’S IN THE RULE BOOK LIKE, OKAY, NOW THAT HE’S NOT CALLING PLAYS, MAYBE HE HAS TIME TO READ THE RULE BOOK BECAUSE HE APPARENTLY HASN’T AND IF HE HAS, HE DOESN’T HAVE VERY GOOD READING COMPREHENSION OR RETENTION BECAUSE HE DIDN’T KNOW 1 OF THE MOST BASIC RULES THAT WHEN YOU HAVE POSSESSION OF THE BALL, IF YOUR ELBOW, OR YOUR KNEE, OR YOUR SHIN, OR YOUR FOREARM, HIT THE GROUND, IT’S A CATCH. YOU DON’T NEED YOUR SECOND FOOT. THAT’S JUST 1 OF THOSE GLARING. LIKE WHEN YOU YEAH LET THE WORLD KNOW YOU DIDN’T KNOW THAT RIGHT? WHAT ELSE DON’T YOU KNOW. THAT’S THE QUESTION AND PLENTY I THINK WOULD BE THE ANSWER. YEAH, I I I I I THINK IT’S FAIR TO TO WONDER IT’S IT’S A TOUGH SITUATION. I GET THAT AND YEAH, HE’S WORKING WITH THE ROOKIE QUARTERBACK AND THAT’S NOT OVERLY TALENTED. BUT LIKE YOU KIND OF ARE SAYING OR I THINK WE’RE BOTH SAYING HERE, YOU CAN’T GET IN YOUR OWN WAY WITHIN ALSO, TRYING TO GROW A TEAM AND AND MAKE IT BETTER. AND YOU BE KIND OF 1 OF THE REASONS, IT’S FALTERING A LITTLE BIT AND I THINK THAT’S HOW THE PUBLIC IS GOING TO VIEW THAT RIGHT NOW. AND YEAH, I WOULD AGREE WITH YOU THAT IT, IT’S CERTAIN DOESN’T LOO

The Brown trade is when the Titans slide started & it hasn’t stopped.
Ownership is THE problem.
The dysfunction starts at the top. They shouldn't have fired Vrabel or hired the current coach in the 1st place
Don't forget giving up points to the Broncos before the half with bad play calling.
They fired Vrabel for Callahan
..not looking good
Just fire him now. Give Wilson a chance to coach. At least he's got a little fire about him.
I wish the play calling was the biggest concern but it's just the tip of the iceberg. Game planning, situational football, clock management are all much bigger issues…
Why didnt the REFS know about the elbow rule
Titans fan here. If you aren’t watching these games you cannot fathom how bad Callahan is as a coach. It’s truly as bad as I have ever seen in any sport. Any serious franchise would have fired him already.
Florio has zero understanding on what’s going on in the Titans organisation
Callahan might be worse than Hackett. I didn't think we would ever see anyone worse than Hackett
They hired the BENGALS offensive coordinator. What could go wrong???
Well if an OC said what you said what you it looked like that OC would never be a head coach in this league anyway. It ain’t a job for people who are scared of challenges and blame.
It’s sad to hear about this about my titans but it’s really accurate!
Sirianni did the same thing, thought he could do it all as a head coach. Sometimes realizing you need to delegate duties for the organization to be successful is a step in the right direction.
Bo did an alright job calling plays for AP when The Raiders fired Josh McDaniels mid season. It's not gonna save their season though. Fire sale coming soon for the coaching staff.
My team is such a joke. I really hope they sell the team to a legitimate owner that can straighten it out.
For me giving up playcalling is a green flag for Callahan. It’s at least some sort of recognition the status quo isn’t acceptable.
If you want to see the opposite, see Billy Napier retaining play calling at Florida while the ship is going down on his tenure and how well that’s playing out with fans.
Change is appreciated because the status quo is bottom barrel
I know this is probably a dumb question. But shouldn't the OC be calling the plays anyhow? Isn't that what they get paid to do?
This tells me that both Callahan and Holz will be fired and when it happens the QB coach is already calling plays and will be the interim OC when the firing happens. A more smooth transition.
Feel bad for Callahan?!?!?!?!?!
Fire callahan amy
The thing with the OC is that he was a clear buddy hire. The leaders of the organization see that and don’t trust him to call plays either. Plus when Callahan is fired, the OC and Daddy Callahan are going with him so this just makes sense for continuity
It’s the defensive backfield aswell they were letting guys walk right past , it not just the coach
WE NEED REX RYAN AS OUR COACH!!!!!
Titans fan, let’s see, trade aj brown, fire vrabel, hire callahan, trade henry, two gms in like 4 yrs. Wtf are they doing to my team?!
Way to go Texans
