Sights & Sounds: Week 4 vs Minnesota Vikings | Pittsburgh Steelers

[Music] Falcha Avalia or as the Irish say, welcome home. But for the Rooney family, it’s not a visit. It’s a return to their roots. Steelers have deep ties to Ireland. Dan Rooney, of course, famously was the US ambassador to Ireland. Hey, let’s go, man. Today is an appreciation day. Hey, we got to own the line of scrimmage now. It’s all got to be about us. We got to stop the running. Go smash this quarterback. Yeah, LBs. It’s us. It’s us, man. Let’s go. The Steelers and Vikings in Dublin, Ireland. The first NFL regular season game ever played on the Emerald Isle. [Music] The Vikings offense came out strong on their opening drive. So the ball at the 37 yd line, went in the shotgun, gets the snap, play action pass, looks to his left, short throw complete to Jefferson and Jefferson has it out to the 45 yd line. So just sitting in this soft spot to the zone and taking these short pickups and that one’s actually not that short. It’s going to be about eight maybe nine yardds and the Vikings will have a first and 10 at the Steelers 38 yd line. Wentz under center gets a snap here and the shotgun throws over the middle of the field has Justin Jefferson wide open and it’s a first down at the 16 yd line in the middle of the field. Deshan Elliot playing the deep safety in that was the one that had to come up and make the play but a huge play for the Vikings to get into the red zone. The defense stepped up when they needed to. All right, big big moment here for the Steelers. Can the Steelers defense hold him back one more time? Force at least a field goal, if not something better. Quick snap and blitz coming by Patrick Queen untouched. He nails Wentz back at the 24 yd line. You might want to get the license plate of that truck cuz he just trucked Carson Wentz. He sure did. Now Reiker will set up right in the middle of the field and here’s the snap. Here’s the boot. That boot is up and that kick is good. The Steelers look to respond with a drive of their own, leaning on Kenneth Gainwell and DK Metaf. Rogers gets a snap, pitches quickly to Gainwell off the left side and finds a huge room and picks up nine yardds just straight to the outside off tackle and oh eight maybe or eight or nine but a good gain there by Kenneth Gainwell. Rogers in the shotgun. Vikings will bring four quick throw over the middle of the field and just a slant to Metaf and Metaf picks up 14 into Vikings territory and down to the 43 yd line. You want to utilize the middle if they’re going to bring blitz make them pay. Go where they were supposed to be and make them pay. So right there they blitz on the inside. Eric Wilson and DK Medaf goes right to the open spot where he was in the zone and makes a nice quick pitch on on the slant. And Rogers now comes out under center. gets the snap. Now we’ll throw to the left and a quick slant to Medcaf and Metaf barreling forward. Defenders trying to bring him down as he drags him inside the 10. A broken eye to the left with Hayward as the fullback. Gainwell as the tailback. Fire move in motion to the left. Handoff. Gainwell goes to the left. Gaping hole into the end zone. Touchdown Pittsburgh Steelers as they respond with a long 65 yd touchdown drive. That was what we wanted to see. We take the jab and we give back a right cross for the Steelers in this match. Great job by the offense. Wentz in the shotgun. Gets a snap. Back to pass. Pressure coming backside. Down he goes. Nick Herbig with a sack. All the way back at the 41 yd line of the Vikings. Mama. There goes that man. After the defense stepped up again, Aaron Rogers made quick work of the next drive. In the shotgun is Rogers playaction pass. Looking throws over the middle of the field as Metcap open and on the run. Crosses the 45 midfield. Crosses the 40, the 30, the 20 yd line, the 15. Picks up a block and rumbled into the end zone. The machine DK Metaf takes a beautiful post route down the middle of the field. It is green grass and we know what happens when you get a train going downhill. Sorry for the guy on the tracks and right there he blew through him all the way into the end zone. One play dynamic. We’ve been looking for those explosives. That was dynamite. Late in the second quarter, the Vikings tried to make something happen, but Deshawn Elliot took that opportunity away. Wentz gets the snap back to pass looking, fires, and the ball’s deflected and it’s intercepted. Picked off. This is Deshaawn Elliot. Slips as he tries to make a move to his left, but the Steelers have come up with a big turnover. The interception and they have the ball at their own 32 yd line. Man, oh man. This defense is picking up where it left off here. Two sacks and an interception already in the first half. Hey, boys. Come on, baby. Let’s get this. With time winding down, the Steelers look to add to their lead. Aaron Rogers stands now with his heels at the 38 yd line, awaiting the snap. Rogers gets the snap. Gainball gets the pitch out to the left side and picks up big yardage before Hardgrave can bring him down across midfield at the 49 yd line of the Vikings about a yard short of the first down. 30 yd field goal attempt here for Boswell. Set up in the right hash. Here’s the hold. Here’s the kick and it’s blocked. It is blocked by the Vikings. The Vikings would take advantage. So the Vikings again, they have a timeout. The ball at the 34 yd line set on the left hash moving left to right in front of us. Wentz in the shotgun as he gets a snap. Steelers bringing pressure. Wentz slings it sidearm across the field and it’s complete to Jefferson. Good throw under duress. Eckles makes the stop at the 49 of the Steelers and the Vikings going hurry up. Ball is spotted at the 42 yd line of the Steelers. Wentz gets a snap back to pass. Jas pressure coming up the middle. Wentz steps through it and has a man wide open. It’s Jefferson at the 20. Loses his footing at the 15 and rolls forward and is tapped down there. 28 yd attempt for Riker. And that kick is up. And that kick is through. That’s the end of the second quarter with a score. The Steelers 14 the Vikings six. Coming out of the half, the defense came out strong as WZ gets a snap, fakes the throw, and will hand off up the middle and not much doing. Jaylen Ramsey came firing up from his defensive back position. Wentz gets a snap, going to throw out to the left flat. Oh, Payton Wilson came roaring up and hammered Mason right at the 30 yd line. A loss of four on the play. So third and 11. Ball at the 30 yd line. Fans on their feet. Terrible towels waving. Gets a snap. Back to pass. Looking. Steps up. Pressure. Down he goes. Flag comes in late behind the play. But Herbig and Benton in on this sack together. Nowhere to hide, nowhere to escape. He got smothered by the Steelers defense. Boy, that is the way to start this second half for the Steelers defense. That’s beautiful. First one out, man. Let’s keep going. Let’s keep building. Let’s go. Wentz gets the snap. Oh, blitz coming time. Then here comes the second one through. And now the ball is free. It’s sitting at the 45 yd line. It’s going to be recovered by the Vikings. It was swatted out of there. And it’s going to be recovered by the Vikings. Now Wentz back under pressure and down he goes. Initial pressure by TJ Watt. This will bring up a third and 16 as we approach the 5 and a half minute mark of this third quarter. Steelers looking to make a stop. Gets the snap back to pass looking. Throws underneath and it’s picked off. TJ Watt on the deflection and the interception driven down by Scott, but he has it at the 35 yd line of the Vikings. What a play by TJ Watt who runs down the field and boots it rugby style into the stands. The defense is here. The malice in the park. That’s what’s happening right now. This Steelers defense another turnover after another sack in this ball game. And the Steelers are just smothering the Vikings right now. Dandy. Dandy. The interception gave the offense a short field and Kenneth Gainwell capitalized. Rogers gets the snap. We’ll give the game open the delay. He’s going to go to the left. He’s going to find a big hole. He’s going to lower this shoulder. Get down to the 20. Harrison Smith makes the stop. Easy first down run. Second and three. They’re going to call it as Rogers under center. Rogers gets the snap. will give to Gainwell on a delay now. He’ll jet left and will head up inside the five and tumbles down to the three yd line. Ball is going to be spotted at the four yd line. Just inside the four yd line on the left hash. Rogers under center. Gainwell the lone set back. Washington in motion to the left. Give to Gainwell. Gainwell knives to the left side. Plunges forward and into the end zone for a Pittsburgh Steelers touchdown. Second of the game for Kenneth Gainwell. Two on the ground, one by air. The Steelers are getting it done both ways. The quarter would end with the defense forcing a threeand out. And down he goes again. Another sack. And Keanu Benton did it again in there with TJ Watt for another sack. He got absolutely destroyed on this play and it was not even close. With the Steelers up by two scores going into the fourth quarter, they look to add insurance. Rogers gets a snap. Will pitch to Caleb Johnson who starts to the right, cuts back, finds a hole in his best run of his young professional career as a Nyd gallop. Rogers breaks the huddle. The Steelers not going with the jumbo package this time. Rogers gets the snap, wants to throw it back, is going to throw out left and it’s complete. And it is Calvin Austin and sixth all time incompletions is Aaron Rodgers with that pass out to Calvin Austin. Once again, we have another shot at a field goal. Like we said, still want to be able to put points on the board after this drive. 33 yd attempt from the right hash. Here’s the snap. Here’s the hold. Here’s the kick. That kick is up. And that kick is good by Chris Boswell. Trailing by three scores, veteran QB Carson Wentz looked to keep his team in the game. Wentz standing behind that line, gets a snap. Seers bring four. Went stands in the pocket, throws over the middle of the field, complete to Jefferson. He is taken down by Payton Wilson. Wentz in the shotgun, gets the snap, back to pass, looking left, pump fakes, now will come back to the right, completes to Hawinson. and Hawinson will drag through a couple tacklers and then kind of pops out the other end down to the 23 yd line as we’re in the middle of the afternoon here in Dublin, Ireland. Wentz by himself in the shotgun gets the snap back looking pump fake. Now he’s going to move up in the pocket throw towards the back of the end zone complete and it’s going to be a touchdown for the Vikings. Xavier Scott, the young running back, comes up with his first touchdown. Now the Vikings are going to go for two right here. 2412 game. Went standing behind that line. Gets a snap, pump fakes, throws, and in the back of the end zone. It’s complete to Naylor. And Naylor has a two-point conversion. And we have a 10-point game at the 750 mark of the fourth quarter. Up by 10, the Steelers look to deliver the knockout punch. Rogers is under center. Gets a snap. We’ll give to Gainwell who starts left, cuts back to the right, has a big hole, crosses the 40, crosses the 45, lowers the shoulder, and gets out to the 49 yd line. So a 14 yd pickup for Kenneth Gainwell on that first down run and now has 71 yardds on 12 carries. Rogers gets the snap in the give to Gainwell and Gainwell finds a hole off the right side. weaves his way forward off right guard inside the 10 yd line. It’ll be first and goal for the Steelers. Rogers in the shotgun, gets the snap. Back to pass. He’s looking left. Finds Gainwell on a quick slant over the middle of the field. And a big moment here. Rogers under center and he’ll give to Gainwell off the left side. Gainwell surging towards the end zone and he’s going to be stopped at the one yd line at the 409 mark. They elect to run the ball from the four, pick up three, and we’ll turn the ball over to the Vikings on down. The Vikings would keep the momentum. Wentz in the shotgun. Gets a snap. Back to pass. Heads to the right. Oh, he’s got a man wide open. It’s Addison. And Addison is going to sprint down the right sideline. Payton Wilson in pursuit. Trips him up at the oneyd line. Pton Wilson somehow ran him down. But that is the huge play. the Vikings were looking for. Wentz gets the snap. Playaction pass rolling out to his right and finds Naylor. And this time, the third time a charm for the Vikings as he finds Naylor in the end zone on the crossing pattern for the touchdown. And once again, the Steelers offense look to close out the game. Rogers is under center. give to Gamewell. Starts to the left and now Gainwell will cut back to the middle of the field and pick up a good solid four yards on first down. Second and six. He’s under center. Gainwell is the lone setback. Gets the snap, turns, gives to Gainwell. Gainwell starts to the right, cuts out to the left, picks up a block from Rogers and is wrestled down by Pace. Love that from a Aon Aaron Rogers going out there saying no no no Jonathan Gernard you will not make this play in the back field. How about that? Do not pass go. Do not collect $200. 152 remaining. Vikings out of timeouts. It is a third and one. The ball is at the 40 yd line of Minnesota. Vikings crowding the line of scrimmage as you would expect. Rogers under center gets the snap turns gives to Gainwell. Gainwell hit in the back field and he’s going to be brought down about a foot or so short of a first down. Here’s a snap to Weightman. Weightman the boot and he’s just going to hammer it through the end zone. Not going to take any chances here with one minute left. The Vikings had one final shot. Ball at the 39 yd line. Wentz back. Pressure coming in. Herbig has him and Herbig wrestles him down. The ball flung away and an incomplete pass. didn’t get anywhere near the line of scrimmage. Oh, what a huge play by Nick Herbick. Just a monster game by Hervik. Fourth and 17. 14 seconds remaining. Crowd loud. Towels twirling as WZ gets the snap back. Throws over the middle of the field. Knocked away by Deshawn Elliott. Welcome back, Deshawn. a phenomenal game as he comes back from injury and the Steelers are going to hang on and win an historic game at Croak Park for the Steelers to come to Dublin. First ever game in the country of Ireland, the late Ambassador Rooney, the connections of the Rooney family to this beautiful place and we get to take a dub out of Dublin.
