The Wizards’ Future Starts Now

The Wizards are in a unique spot because after having the youngest rotation in the NBA, they spent this summer getting rid of almost everyone over the age of 25, leaning all the way into the young core. CJ McCollum and Chris Middleton are the team’s two vets. And outside of mentorship in the locker room, they both provide floor spacing, shot creation, and good passing. So, they’re the types of guys you want to help develop young talent. As for that young talent, there’s plenty. They’ve got 11 players under the age of 24 who cover a wide range of positions and skill sets. ball handlers and playmakers, shooters and slashers, guards and wings who can play with or without the ball, versatile defenders and rim protectors. The problem is that it’s spread out among an entire roster and translating it into one lineup relies on a few guys hitting on key swing skills. So, this upcoming season is all about internal development and experimentation.
