Training Camp Media Availability: Marcus Sasser | 10.3.2025
Uh now this is year three for you, right? You know, do you feel like you’re starting to step more into less young guy, more, you know, guys looking to to you for stuff? How’s the the mood been for you this this week? Um yeah, I can definitely, you know, feel three coming in um coming in just with more confident um just knowing, you know, more plays, knowing what to do. Um yeah, helping the younger guys. Um and that’s kind of you know my focus for this training camp using my voice. So I can you know feel the you know leadership and experience you know um playing a big part for me for sure. And just the using your your voice aspect what does that look like in practice? I forget who it was but somebody else earlier this week also mentioned that you have been much more vocal. Yeah. Um just on the offensive end um I kind of know what I’m supposed to do and know what everybody else supposed to do but um it’s easier you know when I tell them and use my voice. So, you know, that’s kind of something I’m just working on during training camp on both sides of the ball. You know, defense is kind of easy to do it. But, um, offensive offensively when I don’t have the ball, you know, still being communive and telling everybody what to do and telling everybody where where they need to be. So, um, that’s just something I’m working on during training camp. Is that just something that you work on over time or do you talk with any other veteran players? Is someone you you you watch and you’re like, “Hey, I want to be able to do that.” Um just having different talks with coaches and um other players. Um knowing what to say um knowing when to say it and just you know using your voice is it’s it make the game a lot easier and um so everybody can be on one page. So um it’s just you know it’s working. Got to continue to work on it you know during practice so when the game come it’ll be easy for me. You just um finished talking about helping some of the young guys. What have you seen from Chaz Laneir so far in this camp and what has it been like for you just to get an opportunity to um you know develop some chemistry with him even off the court? Um he’s a very good shooter. Um play very hard. Um kind of just I think he came from a program like Houston, so he kind of got that grit and stuff already in him. you know, once he just learn the speed of the game and um learn the new concepts that we have, you know, I feel like he’ll thrive just because um the way he can shoot the ball at a very high clip and has a very quick release so he can get his shot off. At media day, you mentioned Dennis was kind of like big grow for you when he was here. Um and you kind of like learned different things on both sides of the ball from him. What What were some of those things? Um just picking up like defensively um different touches, you know, without getting called. um the way he gets over and under the screens, you know, getting skinny, getting small. And then um on offense, you know, the way he control the team, control the pace, you know, he play as his own pace. You know, it looked like he going fast, but once he come off a pick and roll and stuff, he slow it down and just let the defense go by. So, I just been doing a lot of reps and stuff like that this summer. So, I think I should be ready, you know, when the season starting. The game has slowed down for sure for me. Uh, this team’s had other veteran point guards, but is it a little bit different for a guy like, you know, Shartter who come comes in and you and him are similar size, similar builds? Does it do you feel like you could pick things up maybe a little bit more meaningfully from a guy like that? Yeah, definitely. Um, just cuz of, you know, the same size. Um, kind of got the same game a little bit, you know, speedwise. um picking up full court being that dog and um I just yeah it’s it’s a lot easier to take tips from him than you know somebody like Kade that’s 67 like a unique point guard so it was it was a good help for him last year for him to come and I learned a lot from him for sure. How different has um this training camp been so far knowing that you are coming into um a situation where it’s the same coaching staff, majority of the same roster versus you know the last two years you we’re trying to like you know get accustomed to everything that was new. Um I say just more um comfortable coming in um like you said last year we was coming into a new coaching staff, new group, everything was new but um just knowing you know some of the plays, some of the uh concepts that we already use. So it just kind of give you a confidence boost, you know, coming in training camp, just knowing what’s going on and knowing these simp. Okay. Appreciate y’all.
