Justin Jefferson and Carson Wentz Address the Media Following Vikings Loss to Steelers in Dublin

Carson, was there a problem with your left eye there? Yeah, for a moment there. It’s tough to see. Got gouged in the eye, but we’re fine. Overall, what was it like dealing with that amount of pressure in that game? Yeah, I mean, they’re a good team. Um, you know, I think um and we got down early, so we ended up throwing throwing the ball quite a bit. So, that’s always tough on on the O line and everything. And um there’s definitely times I could have got rid of the ball quicker and gone through my progressions faster, but um yeah, shout out to that team. They play hard. They play physical. Um they made it tough on us. Justin, what were the field conditions like? Like you slipped a couple of times. Uh yeah, it was it was a little slippery out there, but uh it’s not really something that uh you know, we would put blame on or uh criticize. Um you know, at the end of the day, we just still got to go out there. I mean, we we knew we are we were aware of the surface and um you know, it just was a little tricky sometimes just uh trying to put your foot in the ground and you know, grass coming up, but um I feel like all in all, I still you know, we still got to to be able to you know, run our routes and still, you know, one one good on a good bit on our route. So, uh you know, it’s it’s not really something that we really put focus on for real. It was hard to see from where you were. Do you think you score on that when um down sort of Oh, for sure. For sure. You know, um you know, just leaving me one-on-one with uh 41. Uh definitely definitely wish I can get that one back, but uh you know, it’s just got to move on to that one and uh on to the next play. Carson, how different was it not having a play clock in that direction? Yeah, that was weird. I’m not going to lie. It was weird looking behind me, looking over my shoulder on the side. Um, thought we handled it okay. Obviously got us at a very bad time of the game. Um, unfortunately, but yeah, that was a little different. Were you guys hoping for a reset of the play clock there after the spike? It looked like you were kind of going to the end zone and KO was signing. Yeah, that’s that’s on me. I got to be quicker in and out, you know. I think just kind of lost sight of it obviously physically and um just kind of was back of my mind. So, I got to be better. Carson, just big picture, how would you evaluate your game as a whole? And you got to watch it back. Just Yeah, I got to watch it back. Um, at the end of the day, we lost. That’s all I care about. That’s all I’m concerned about. Um, got a bad taste in my mouth that the defense stepped up when we needed them at the end, got us the ball back. Um, in those situations, you know, it pains me to be left there on out on the field with a chance and come up short. So, um, I’m not here to evaluate the the rest of the play. You know, we had some chances. You know, couple tipped picks are those suck. Not going to lie, those are tough. Um they kind of derailed what I thought. We had some decent momentum going on a couple drives and so um yeah, that was tough, but at the end of the day, we lost and that’s all that matters. Justin, just four games in, I mean, how how have you kind how do you evaluate just the offensive execution overall? Uh yeah, we’re still figuring it out. Um you know, just dealing with uh different circumstances, you know, injuries, uh people having to step up in different spots. Uh, so it’s it’s difficult. You know, this this game of football is um you know, not really predictable and a lot of things can really, you know, jump at you when you’re really not expecting it to. So, uh, but at the end of the day, just like you said, you know, we lost, you know, it’s not it’s not really uh we got to look at the film to really digest it for real. Uh, but yeah, definitely a sick taste in our mouth. uh just you know hurting ourselves really just you know shooting oursel in the foot and just giving them more opportunities to to really you know get points or gain that momentum. Uh and it’s just something that we got to kind of lean in on ourselves and uh you know really understand what we really want to accomplish. Uh you know the penalties we got to get rid of the penalties pre- snaps. you know, that’s that’s definitely uh something that we got to, you know, lean into. Uh but you it definitely was a great defense out there. They’re a great team and uh they made plays at the end of the day. What’s going through your head when you guys see Brian O’Neal down on the field and medical staffs coming out to attend to him? Yeah, I mean immediately just start praying for for guys obviously. Um it’s all you can do. You know, injuries are unfortunately a part of this game. We’ve both been there. Um and so one of those things you just kind of pray for these guys and um obviously as a leader of our team, you know, that means that means something to to everybody. So, um I thought Justin did a great job stepping up um Justin school there um when Bo went out and so um that’s obviously always tough with a leader of your team in in that situation, but um it’s always next man up mentality. You know, injuries are part of this game and I’m praying he’ll be back soon. Carson, how do you feel with that that pressure from the delay? Yeah, I mean it’s like I said earlier, it’s tough. I mean, when you get down, you dig yourself a hole like that. Um the D line kind of just pins our ears back in rushes and we’re throwing, you know, time and time again. So, um it’s a good team. It’s a good team. It’s a good D line. Hats off to them. Um they play hard. Um and so we had our chances. I can be better, get the ball out quicker, too. So, um but yeah, it always makes it tough and and they did a good job today. Did you feel the pressure from the public? Say that again. if you feel the pressure from the public, the noise. Um, the the crowd was honestly, if that’s what you’re asking about, the crowd, the atmosphere, it was fun. Um, honestly, it’s fun. This is my second time playing overseas and so it was I thought it was a good experience. Good good turnout. Sucks to lose, not going to lie. But, um, I thought it was a cool atmosphere and, uh, tough one to to lose out there. Justin, you spoke a little bit about um, you know, cleaning up the pre- snap, postnap penalties and kind of getting in a rhythm again. What what is the difference just like the your first victory with with JJ McCarthy that when you guys have your back against the wall, what what is the difference that you guys can somehow overcome some of those things together? Uh yeah, we just been in those different positions too many times uh honestly. And uh we just kind of understand and we we kind of lean on each other to um pick it up. And at the end of the day, we didn’t we wasn’t really losing by much. we was only losing by two uh two possessions, two scores. Uh so it’s just all about one play at a time, you know, defense getting us that stop and allowing us to go down, score, and uh you know, get it within three and then getting a stop again, allowing us to get the ball back and go, you know, take a shot at either tying the game or winning the game. Uh so it’s just all about just keeping our heads up and just keep fighting at the end of the day. Um, I I feel like we’ve definitely been in those positions too much to really uh love love it, but uh we also understand that we we have a team that fights and and and don’t really hang our head until 0000 is on that clock. Uh and we’ve been doing it time and time again, you know, even last year, you know, this year. uh we just got to really figure out how to not be in those positions and not allowing ourselves cuz it’s really ourselves that are are getting into those positions. Not really the other team, you know, outplaying us or out coaching us. Uh so it’s we got to look in the mirror. We got to look in the mirror and figure out how we’re going to, you know, stop that from happening. How we’re going to come out fast swinging like we did last week. Uh and just carrying on that same consistency. Um so that’s that’s pretty much the main thing. last few. Did this feel like a a road game? Did it feel like a something different? Um, you know, obviously they were the home team officially, but what did it feel like being out there? Maybe Carson, too. Uh, yeah, I mean, it felt great. I mean, they definitely had some Steelers fans out there. Uh, you know, they had some crowd noise and, um, it definitely felt felt electric, I would say. Uh but you know at the end of the day you know we we expect that you know we kind of understand you know that it still is our home you know this game and um you know any circumstances we’re we’re really ready to go out there and and perform uh no matter the crowd noise matter uh the atmosphere you know it’s just on us to go out there and still perform uh and communicate you know as like as like as always. Justin, you talk a lot about we were saying you were slipping there slide. Do you think you’d benefit maybe of coming a day or two earlier and getting more familiar with the softer Irish ground? Um uh uh I don’t really know. It’s a great question, but uh I don’t really know. Uh uh I mean just just being out there and I mean it’s not really like overly slipping. is just, you know, slipping on um, you know, just here and there on these little routes. Maybe I’m overextending a little bit too much. And, uh, you know, I just got to understand the surfaces and understand that I got to get my feet, uh, you know, below me instead of out wide. Uh, so that’s that’s something that, um, you know, um, to think about, but, uh, that’s not really something that I put blame on or, uh, I criticize. you know, at the end of the day, uh, whether it’s raining, snowing, uh, you know, we still got to go out there and run good routes and get open for the quarterback. Thanks everybody. Thank y’all. Appreciate it.

  1. No no I don’t want to hear your Vikings bs. You guys all acted like you were good. This team beat no body. Oh we undefeated over seas, cook you played the jaguars and panthers. No one is scared of the fin Vikings sit down and stfu

  2. I forgive Jefferson In advance for leaving this soft team first chance he gets. Greener pastures are elsewhere for him this team is a joke, leadership is weak and they’re not serious about winning. Just like moss era just like Peterson era, see ya on the other side jettas.

  3. I was really hoping we could pull this game off with a win.
Didn't get to watch it but by the score we came close.
This season is gonna have some major ups and downs, even more than we're used to I think.
Still 💜 my Vikes. We just need to get it together this season so we can REALLY compete next season.
I'm not saying this season is a loss but high expectations isn't realistic.

  4. That's still a better OL than Wentz had in Washington and people blamed Wentz for that season even tho he was top 5 in both passing yards and passing TDs thru the 1st 5 games that year despite his trash OL

  5. Key injuries in the o line are the biggest problem. Wentz was under siege way too often. Some guys got to Wentz because they weren’t blocked at all. O line is a huge factor in any QB’s success or failure.

  6. This team is soft both lines terrible play injuries not a excuse they signed these injury prone players rediculous Fries is terrible 85 million for that garbage this team is a mess
