hello met fans! my father and i recently rediscovered this stuffed mr. met coin bank, and we were hoping to find some more information about it. thus far, our googling has only showed us one ebay listing that doesn’t provide a lot of context.

it’s a stuffed mr. met coin bank, where you slide coins in through a slot on the back of his neck and the bank opens from the bottom. we’re assuming it was some kind of free gate giveaway situation, but are slightly confused because of the lack of information on it. my best guess for timing would be around the early 2010s.

in part, we’re trying to value it, but generally just want to learn more about where it might have come from. i’ve attached a few pictures, including the tag, and am hoping someone here recognizes it.

thank you in advance for the help!

  1. That seems like it would be older than the 2010s. It’s very creepy looking in the face, and the ass stopper feels like something people would find questionable even back then.

It seems more like a 70s or 80s thing.  Not saying it is, just that it feels like it.

  2. apparently the company, “steven smith stuffed animals,” has been around since the 70s, and they do a bunch of stuff for baseball, but the oldest immediately dated thing i could find is a stuffed bear from the 2000 subway series. looks like they’ve done stuff that was actually sold in team stores and the like, too.

  3. Is the second picture the place where you put the coins in?

    Why tf is it THERE?!?!
