🔴 LIVE: Kansas City Chiefs vs Jacksonville Jaguars | Oct WEEK 5 FULL GAME| MADDEN NFL 26 SIMULATION

Tonight’s the night for football, everybody. The bright lights are on, the stage is set, and the crowd is ready. It’s Monday Night Prime Time on EA Sports. Tonight’s a good one here in the AFC between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Jacksonville Jaguars. Jaguars. [Applause] [Music] Harrison sets ago is the kicker Harrison Buter and Monday night prime time is underway. Here’s a return from the seven coverage team gets him down at the 26 yd line. So, here are the Jaguars taking over for the first time on offense. They’re brought out by the fifth year man out of Clemson. Hard to believe it’s year five, isn’t it, Brock? Former number one overall pick, Trevor Lawrence. When you have a franchise quarterback, and Trevor is that guy in Jacksonville, you typically don’t slump to bottom five in the draft. But that’s where the Jags have found themsself. And that’s why there’s a new system, a new coach, and really a new lease on life for Trevor in what becomes a very big year in his career. Here’s Travis ETN on the ground. Well, maybe the rest of the game is going to be headed in the proper direction, Brock, but their first play winds up going backwards. Stay on schedule. S O S. We talk about it all the time offensively. You’ve got to stay on schedule and a run like that puts you now so far behind the sticks. Going to take some superhuman effort. Now on second down, back to the line they go. It’s second down. Now toss it to ETN and he’ll be met near the line to limit the game to a yard. Leo Chanel able to bring him down. Yeah, that defense was flying to the ball. You see that outside toss. This is a pursuit drill that they work on over and over again. Get to that toss before it can really get started. This offense looking to converge as they come up on third down. out of the gun. Lawrence throw right side caught by Thomas and he’ll take it up to the 30 before being brought down. You can earn your money in the NFL in all sorts of different ways. But defensively, in a league where you’re just not hitting as much in training camp, you’re not tackling as much as they got to in the old days. When you can make a play in the open field, keep them short like that, I promise you some money will follow. and he gets his guys a few yards before they bring him down on the return. So, here come the Chiefs taking the field for their first drive of the game and leading them as he always does. A quarterback seeking his fourth consecutive Super Bowl appearance and a fourth Super Bowl title. It’s Patrick Mahomes. It’s pretty remarkable, isn’t it, Kate? The worst season statistically in Mahomes career was still good enough to finish sixth in the MVP voting and reach a fourth straight Super Bowl. Shows just how high his bar is compared to everyone else. And he’s still the QB that almost all are chasing. Mahomes getting a throw on this first play. That’s caught by Hollywood Brown and after making a catch, he is decked quickly at the 38. Pick up of 12 on that play and it’ll be first down Kansas City. It sure seemed like he knew exactly where he was going with that right off the snap. New set of downs for him at the 38. Now it’s the first carry for Isaiah Pacheco. Dropped by the first guy he met. No gain on that first down run. Okay, that’s a run that’s whole hum on the stat sheet. But if you see a bigger play on the ground later on, it’ll largely be because of a play just like that one. Softening up the front and opening the door for a bigger gap in the future. Last run only gained a yard. That means it’s second and nine. Quick throw completed by Mahomes and he is brought to a stop after he found plenty of room there to run. Just excellent effort on that catch and a lightning quick transition from bringing that football in to getting vertical. He was not content for a second to end that play where he caught it. Uh-uh. Any catch he makes, his intent is to put some serious yards on top of it. First down throw. Momes. That’s complete to Guju. Momes. And he’s able to get this to the 32 before going down. A gain of a yard brings up second and nine at the Jaguars 32 yd line. They’ll come to the line here. Second and nine. They’ll empty the back field and motion him out. Out of the gun. It’s Momes. He’s got Brown on the slant. Gain of about eight here. Nice pick up, but he stopped a second before he can move those chains. Good luck defending that short yardage slant. Just not going to happen. There’s a reason this is a go-to play for just about any quarterback in every situation. Third down, one yard to go. Here’s Mahomes on the sneak. They were loaded and ready for that sneak, weren’t they? They stopped him at the line. No gain. His legs giving this opening drive some extra legs, partner. Good enough there to pick up the first. Yeah. And I think that’s good, Kate, because nobody on that sideline wanted to kick a field goal right there. You reach this part of the field, you want to go finish with six. Operating from the gun. Here’s Momes. He’s keeping it again. And that one goes for a gain of 11. And the Chiefs are going to have a first down. A gain of 11 on the play. You know, these are the type of plays that really get an offense going. This is a chance for QB to inspire the guys around him. Calling his own number, carrying his teammates to a first down on that big run that inflates an offense and it can suck the wind out of that defense. Throwing on first down. Momes. This throw is cuffed and that’s a Kansas City touchdown. The Chiefs have a great first drive and get the game’s first points. Xavier Worthy the touchdown. They’re on the road but still favored coming into this one. And they quickly made a mockery of that homefield advantage. Brock with an opening drive TD just kind of playing like a team right that just knows it. They believe in themselves. They’ve got that athletic arrogance and confidence coming into this building. They can’t wait to take the home crowd right out of it. Now Harrison Buter for the point after. Extra points sent right down the middle and the Chiefs will jump out to a seven nothing lead. Jaguars nothing. [Applause] But on now to kick this one away to kick off for Kansas City. Fielded at the seven. And decent run back is going to end as they bring him down inside the 30. Second drive of the game upcoming for this Jaguar offense. And they haven’t gotten their legs under him on offense just yet, Brock. Three plays and a punt on their opening drive. Jaguars look ready to go. Here comes first and 10. Putting the tight end in motion. First down throw. Lawrence. Connection made. Travis ETN and he’s up to the 35 yd line as they reel him in. ETN that is a textbook first down completion. Sets up second and very manageable and creates space to take that shot downfield. Second and three now. [Applause] [Music] Inside handoff goes to ETN and the stop is made just before he’s able to reach that midfield strike. They’ll get 14 yds and a new set of downs. And the Jaguars first down. Danger. I say you get this guy in the open field and he is dangerous to take it to the house. First and 10. Ball set up at the 48. on play action now. Lawrence finds him over the middle and he’s marked down looks like at the 32 yd line. It’s a gain of 19 on the play. And that’ll be good for a Jacksonville first down. Jaguars first down. I may love watching a great thrower, but I love watching a well done route too. Kate, make that guy think you’re trying to stack them only to drop your hips and cut right inside. Some good work to help reset those chains. First and 10. It’s Lawrence. Ooh, that one’s nearly intercepted. The defense read that one perfectly. A poor choice to make that throw. Second down coming up. Kate, I think that’s a little taster, little entree of what’s to come for this wide receiver. He’s going to have to make some plays into some contested coverages. And he couldn’t do it right there. All right, still 10 to go here after they almost had an interception on first down. [Music] Counter give to ETN and he’s unable to get away from that tackle. Good work by the defense. Nothing gained on second down. I know these DNs love to get to the quarterback. I know that sacks many times equals a bigger payday, but doing the dirty work, playing the run well, that’s what the best of the ends do in this league. And Kansas City going to the dime. Look on third down. We’ve got six DBs out there. Lawrence working from the gun. Pocket isn’t holding up. They’re able to drop him. And that sack brings the offense to fourth down. Sometimes I wish everybody could feel what that feels like when you’re a QB and you just feel the air in the pocket getting sucked out and you know there’s no escape. It can be just one heck of a deflating feeling. Not for that defense who puts a sack on the board. Facing fourth down, the Jags electing to send out Cam Little for this field goal try. He better get all of this one. It’s got a ways to go. And he missed it. It’s no good. No good. And the deficit stays at seven. He was hitting from that distance pregame. Heck, we were on the field watching it and they were confident he could do so again. Just did not work out this time around. The Chiefs sending their offense out for the second time this game and they take the field exactly where they want it to be. Brock off a touchdown early and with a home crowd a little quieter than normal. I’m not going to lie to you, Kate. I think most quarterbacks, competitors love playing on the road when they do just this. Just quiet them, right? turn them against their own team. They were quiet after that opening touchdown. You score another one, they’re going to start to murmur and we might even hear a few boobirds. All right, the Chiefs in good field position here as they start out first and 10. Drive begins with a run by Pacheco down the sideline inside the 40 and he’s going to score. Touchdown Kansas City. Touchdown Kansas City. Chiefs get another six to make this a 130 game. It’s an Isaiah Pacheco touchdown. Wow. Just sensational speed from the back that time, Brock. He found his seam, got through it, and he was gone. You know, it’s one thing, Kate, to have singles hitters, right? And you you love those and you appreciate guys that can get on base, but it’s the home run hitters that are the difference makers. And what a big time effort. But to try the point after [Applause] right down the middle, it’s good. And the Chiefs drive out to an early 14- nothing lead. Jaguars nothing. [Applause] Harrison on now to kick this one away. Kansas City. Here’s a return from the seven and he’s brought down just inside the 25. take over. Out now runs the Jaguars offense. This would be a good time for their first points of the game as they find themselves down a notable amount already in this opening quarter. Jacksonville offense ready to get going. Here’s first and 10. Here’s [Applause] ETN to begin the drive. And he manages six yds to begin this one. We’ve got second and four. Cool thing about a drive starting run like that, Kate, is it really just gives you every opportunity in the playbook, whatever you want to do. But as for me, I like to reward that runner. Give it to him again and see if he can get you a new set of downs. First down run gets him six. So now it is second and four. ETN again. Defender gets to him right around the line. It’s going to be marked as no gain. So Brock, that means third down coming up. I think one thing you learn, Kate, when you transition from college to the NFL, not every run is going to be a big play. Some of them, well, they’re just destined to end in a minimal game, and some of them will set up that critical play action for later. Third down. Lawrence to throw and he’s caught. He’s got Brown and he will have this across that 40 yd line before they manage to stop him. That’s an 11 yd pickup and it gives them the first down. First down. First and 10 at the 44 yd line. Nice to see that connection, that chemistry working between the two of them. from the 44 yd line. Now first and 10 [Applause] now Lawrence on the play fake. Challenges double coverage and it’s intercepted and the Chiefs get the football on the first turnover of the contest. Chiefs. Well, I know I don’t need to tell you, partner, but if you’re going to try to get aggressive, really push a throw down field like that, you have to be smart about how you do it. Yeah, that is spot on, Kate. If you got to find that spot when you know the coverage won’t be able to hold up, especially as you go 20, 30, 40 yards down the field. Hey, listen. These defenders in the league today, you throw a ball deep down the field like that, it turns into a 50/50 ball, more times than not, they can make a play and take it away just as they did. [Applause] All right, the Chiefs in good field position here as they start out first and 10. From the gun, it’s Momes. Defender arrives right as the ball does and the hit knocks it free. Incomplete. Savior worthy. That’s a pretty cool look right there of the kind of coverage you’re going to see when you play manto man on that down and distance. You’ve got to be sharp on the outside. That DB certainly was. No luck on first down. Here’s second and 10. To the air. Momes. He’s got his man. That’s Travis Kelce. And this is marked down right along that 40 yd line. Kelsey. They gain 14 on the play and it’ll be first down Kansas City. Move the chains. Got to move them chains. Build momentum and keep that defense on its heels. New slate of downs to approach here from the 40. [Applause] A first down carry for PCO. And that’s only one yard up the middle. Going to be second down. The ball carry. Hey, we know running the ball in the NFL is hard and that play pretty indicative of it. Here’s the key though. At the end of the game, those type of plays got to be in the minority and the majority have got to do some damage. Last run. Not a lot of help, Brock. Nine to go now on second down. Right back to PCO. They shut him down on this one. They get him behind the line and that should push him out of field goal range. This is one of those situations, Kate, where I watch the body language of the running back because it’d be very easy for him to raise his hands up, look to the sideline in his O line, and go, “What am I supposed to do there?” There was nothing, no time at all to try and escape and react. Instead, it goes backwards. Third down. It’s Momes. Has him on the quick hitter and he’ll get this down to the 33 yd line. to number defenses are fine with surrendering that completion if it means making the stop short like they did and bringing a fourth down. Yeah, I like when these defensive coordinators say they want to populate the ball and that was a perfect example of it. Don’t let the playmaker get started. The Chiefs bring on Harrison Buter for the field goal. This a 50yd look from the right half and this kick is good. He needed to get all of it there and he did. and they come away with some points on that series. A lot of them may make it look automatic, but you get this deep and those field goals are far from a certainty. It took all his concentration and every bit of his strength to send that puppy through. Harrison on now to kick this one away. Return coming from the six. This manages to get just beyond that 30 yd line. Take over first and 10 at their own 31 yd line. [Music] They’ve got first down from the 31. [Applause] Trying to shake out the interception. He’s looking to throw and he’ll go down. It will stay right at the 39 yd line. That’s going to do it for our first quarter here on Monday Night Prime Time. The Chiefs in control so far. Back to Everbank Stadium in just a bit. Back for the second quarter. It’s Jaguar football. They start out with a second and three. Out of the gun, a give to ETN. Great work there to evade the tackle, but the rest of the run pretty forgettable. No gain there. on the stop. Not sure if it was a missed assignment on the line, a dominant play on his part, or maybe a little bit of both, Kate. But look at those dudes down there defensively. Man, they are fired up after that stick behind the line. All plays on the table here for third and three from the shotgun. Lawrence. Throw wheeled in by Thomas. Duke’s at a one stop and the tackles made just beyond midfield at the 48. big gain 14 on the play and that’s a Jaguar first down. I know the combine tries to test everything it possibly can physically but I don’t know how you test courage at the combine because there’s nobody defending you. Nobody wants to hit you, but that was the epitome of courage to make that in cut and make the catch. Lawrence with it on first. Short pass brought in and he’ll take it past the midfield strike and start the push into Chief’s territory. Every once in a while, it’s fine to be conservative on first downs, especially when you get enough to stay on schedule and get a little something coming out of it, too. Second down now. Seven to go. Out of the gun, Lawrence able to find Strange here. And he’s going to be brought down after reaching the 43. He’s just one of those guys, Kate. Even when he’s not open, he’s still a target thanks to that physicality and his ability to just play bowl. They don’t like forcing into coverage, but sometimes when you got a bully like him that can create space, you just find a way to get him the ball. UTN on third down and he’s able to get this down to the 36. That one gains seven and that’ll be good for a Jacksonville first down. Ask for a little bit more on that one. asked that running back to come up with more than he’s used to on third down and he made it look like just another day at the office. I wouldn’t expect every conversion to go as smoothly, but he sure made that one look routine. Going to the ground again on first and he gets a few on the plunge forward. Hey, not a bad play by any means, but there’s room for more and they know it. Pick up brings up second and seven. Second down now. Seven to go. Looking to throw. Lawrence. Pressure’s there and he goes down again. And that pushes him back. Third down coming up. In theory, Kate, that’s exactly what complimentary man coverage is supposed to look like. The DBs, well, they’re sticky on the back end of it. The front end, that pass rush, it makes an impact. It gets home. But of course, we know it’s not that simple. It is really tough to lock down a full field for more than a second or two. Wonder what’s in the playbook here as they come up on third and 11. Now Lawrence, here’s a screen for Tuton. And he needed a little more room to reach that line. And the stop is made in time. That brings up fourth down. I’m a big fan of the screen pass. Really, you can run a screen as they just showed on any play, first, second, third down, sometimes even fourth. But it takes great acumen, a great football IQ defensively to have an awareness it’s coming and then more importantly to stop it. On fourth down, here’s Lawrence. He’s got it to his running back and he’s tackled with a first down yardage. A gain of sure seems like he knew exactly what he wanted and he got it going right where he wanted to with the ball off the snap. First and 10 at the 22 yd line. All set up now for first and 10. Lawrence to throw it. A throw left side caught by Brown and he’s tackled after gaining a handful. It’s not just imperative that a quarterback knows man or zone. Same thing for a receiver, especially on a drag route. When he sees zone coverage like that, just settle down, find the soft spot, and give your quarterback a chance. Second and three now. Back to the air. Lawrence pocket isn’t holding up. They’re able to drop him and that pushes him back. Third down coming up. That was a situation where I think the drive, the previous drive really affected the decision-making there coming off a pick. He wasn’t about to challenge the coverage. Instead, well, he just took his medicine. A less than ideal third and eight here. [Applause] Back to throw. Here’s Lawrence. Got his man. Thomas has it. And he is well clear of that marker. That effort is going to set them up with a first and goal. And that right there is about the best you could hope for against double coverage. Good chunk of yards and more importantly, Brock, you don’t get burned taking a risk. Yeah, it’s really the defense that gets burned and that is just demoralizing. You got double coverage. You got what you want. And two guys can’t stop one btn. So some defensive initiative in that goal to go, Brock. They take him down behind the line. Second and goal coming up. This is one of those plays that I wish we had the huddle miked up, Kate, cuz I can assure you that offensive line in their own way. Telling that running back, sorry, we did not give you any chance. After the loss, it’s second and goal from the five. ETN again and he’s backed up again as they stop him for another loss. This offense may want to try and disguise their run a little bit. I don’t know if it’s the O lineman’s stance. I don’t know if it’s a cadence. I don’t know what it is, but after two straight plays going backwards, this defense is all over them. Now backed up to the eight. Third and goal. Lawrence looking to throw and they’re going to take this in for the Jacksonville touchdown. The Jaguars start to fight back with their first points of this game. down Jaguars. [Applause] Cam Little to try the extra points. The point after splits the upright is good. And the Jaguars cut the lead down to 10. Chiefs 17. Jaguars seven. [Applause] [Applause] That lead trimmed just a bit. Down to 10 points now as the kick is up and away. Here’s Smith on the return. Coverage team gets him down at the 26 yd line. dead and 10. The Kansas City offense set to take the field. And they’ll have a little momentum as they take the fields here after their kicker drilled a deep one to end their last drive with points. [Applause] Chiefs coming up to the line here. It’s first and 10. It gives a Veco to start the drive. This drive is quickly headed in the wrong direction. First place set down behind the line. Hunter. The difficult part is not tracking him out there. Almost every corner in the league’s got the speed to do that. What separates him from others is the physical. Can he avoid getting tied up in a block? And then can he deliver that blow for a loss? Headed in reverse so far. Time to shift into drive. Here’s second and 14. [Applause] Out of the gun, it’s Momes. Completed over the middle and he’ll go down after pushing this up to the 29. The goal of that little drag route is to get him for at least a minimal gain with space to add after that. That picked up a good chunk and it was nearly a big play. Let’s see what they draw up on this third and seven. operating from the gun. Here’s Mahomes. Got a man and Kelsey has it. Mahomes and he gets this one up to the 40 yd line. Kelsey, gets a gain of 11 there and that picks up the first on the play. First down Kansas City. I’m not sure how this defense let that guy slip through him like that on third down. Nonetheless, he took that snap as an opportunity and man did he make an impact play. the slated downs to approach here from the 40. [Applause] A give right side. Here’s PCO. Can’t slip that initial tackle. Stops made for no gain on that first down play. Stopped right at the line, but might as well have been a loss of yards as far as the offense is concerned. It’s always humbling when you try force versus force and the defense wins out. First down run netted him nothing. Here is second and 10. Here’s Momes. That’s worthy of running the slant and he’s taken down directly on that 43 yd line. That play good for 17 on a first down. You know, it sure seems like he knew exactly where he was going with that before the snap. That’s a pre-nap decision that led to a postnap first down. Let’s see how they attack this first down Brock from the 43 running out of the gun with Pacheco. Drops by the first guy he met. No gain on that first down run. That linebacker makes that tackle right in the middle of the field. All I’m thinking about right now, Kate, training camp, cuz that’s the middle drill right there. That is textbook what you do in training camp coming to life when it matters. We’re at the two-minute warning now from Everbank. The Chiefs looking for a bigger lead before the break. Well, nothing doing on the last run. It’s second and 10. Throwing with a blitz on the way to the left and hold in by Kelsey. And he’s going to be right up against that line that they needed. Make it third and maybe a yard at most from the 34. Quarterbacks will look for their tight end short in just about any situation. They take away the deeper options. Well, there’s their consistent source of positive yardage, the trusty tight end. That’s Khan. It’s Kelsey again. And he pushes this down to the 22 yd line. They’ll move the chains after that pick up of 12. A gain of 12 and a first down, Chiefs. [Music] They like to say it’s about the Jimmies and the Joe’s. I think that’s about the X’s and the O’s. That’s a well drawn up completion that nets them a first down. First down throw. Momes caught at the 10 yd line. Holmes and it’s another first down on this drive. Man, this time they’re into first and goal. First and goal. The Jaguars are going to call their first time out. They’ll have two left to work with before halftime. [Applause] Four downs now to get in. Here’s first and goal. Another throw for Mahomes. He brings it in. Touchdown Kansas City pass complete. The Chiefs grow their lead just before halftime. Kansas City Travis Kelce the touchdown. It seems like a lot of the time, Brock, even if the results aren’t quite as flashy every rep, tight ends are even more reliable scorers than a lot of receivers are when it comes to the passing game. Yeah, I would agree with that. But there’s also a lot more real estate for them to work with, right? Think of the receivers. They got to deal with the sidelines. That 12th defender, many of these tight ends, they’ve got a ton of field to work with. And when they prove to the quarterback they could be a difference maker, he’ll look for them. [Music] But with the extra points and the Chiefs take a three possession lead. Chiefs 24, Jaguars seven. This could be it. [Music] Harrison on now to kick this one away. Kansas City starting from the five. He stopped on the run back at the 27. The Jaguars headed out on offense late in this first half. And we’re down inside a minute to play in the half, but that’s enough time to get a drive together. offense into the shotgun set as they line this up. First and 10. They kick the running back in motion. Throwing on first down. Lawrence has him on the quick hitter and he’s taken down after a very productive effort there. Brock up to the 40 yd line. A timeout taken by Jacksonville. It’s second and they still have one in their pocket for what’s left of this half. First and 10 at the 40 yd line. fellas. New slated downs to approach here from the 40. On first and 10, here’s Lawrence. Finds him over the middle and he gets through for a sevenyd gain. The tap of Maine at the 47. Now a timeout called by the Jaguars. That’s their third. And that’s all they’ve got for what little remains of this half. yard line. That’s what you call efficiency. Exactly what you’re looking for on first down. Textbook. It sets up second and very manageable and then creates that space if you want to take a shot downfield. Second and three now. [Applause] Lawrence working from the gun, signing Brown. back-to-back plays and he’s going to get stopped right around the 45 yd line. Give him eight yardds on the play. That’s a Jaguar first down. And those are the completions they rely on from their passing game. First and 10 at the 45 yd. All on the 45. First and 10. Sticking in the air with Lawrence. Finds his man over the middle. And they make the stop. We’re going to say it about the 37 yd line. Travis Hunter eight yardds on the pickup. Brings up second and two at the 37 yd line. So, a one-sided contest as we reach the break here. Let’s head over to Scott Hansen for the EA Sports halftime report. All right, Kate, thanks very much. Welcome in everyone to the Orlando studios. Scott Hansen with you for a quick recap of the first half, which has been strongly one-sided. This is heading towards blowout territory unless they can come from behind and get themselves a victory. Let’s find out what happens in the second half. Let’s go back out to the commentary team, Kate Scott and Brock Huard. Thank you, Scott. Great work there. We uh on the other hand, didn’t have a great first half. Here’s hoping things get a little bit closer this time around as we get set for quarter number three. All set for the kickoff. Little with the honors. Here’s Smith on the return. Oh, putting him in the spin cycle and the tackles made as he gets it out to the 32. The Chiefs have their offense out to start this third quarter. And unsurprisingly, Brock, a great day on the scoreboard so far for him. Has him with the advantage as we move through this third quarter. [Applause] It’s a new set of downs for him at the 32. They go play action. It’s Momes. Finds him on the crossing route and he’ll go down. It will say right at the 39 yd line. Part of the reason I leave you pregame Kate and get down to that field and watch these guys throw and catches. I want to see their timing. I want to see their anticipation. That is picture perfect right there. A crossing route thrown that quickly tells me these two are on the same page. Watch Twist. Watch Twist from the 39. Short pass brought in and he’ll pick up enough to move the chains. The goal of running that drag route is to get it to him for at least a minimal gain with space to add after that. That picked up a good chunk and there was nearly room to add even more. First and 10 from a yard shy of midfield. [Applause] From the gun, it’s Momes into traffic. Complete. And he takes it across midfield and into Jaguars territory. I’m not going to lie, I know they got a completion and completions you never turn them down, but to make that throw for those yards in a double coverage, that is way too much risk for that reward. Second and six coming up here. [Applause] Back to the air. Momes. Kelsey’s got it right side. Broke through the tackle and he’s got this one down to the enemy 35 before they force him out. Travis Kelsey. It’s a gain of 12 there. And the Chiefs are going to have a first downs. Oh, things weren’t about to end after the first hit or the second. Stan had a vision for what he wanted to happen after the catch and he was going to take on all comers to try to make it a reality. three. [Applause] Pacheco gets it from the gun and they’re going to be set up just outside that red zone. The end result there, 15 yds and a first. A gain of 15 and a first down, Chiefs. What a great sign to start the second half for this offense because with a lead, well, the ground game becomes your best friend, the centerpiece for this offense. trying to chew up that clock. They’ll come up first and 10. [Applause] Quick throw completed by Momes. And we might be close to this lead growing again. That play gives him a first and goal. First and goal at the sixyd line. Why in the heck do you need two or three plays when you can get it done in one effective call right there? Go from first down to first down. Exactly the tempo offenses love. [Applause] A counter give here to PCO. And that right there is the start of what could be a goal line stand. They hit him for a loss on first and goal. I know from the position of the quarterback Kate, sometimes you hand that ball, you put it in the belly of the running back and you send him right into the teeth of a buzzsaw. You can feel it from the jump. And that call from the defense, well, it came at the perfect time to the air. Momes. That one is incomplete. Couldn’t hang on through the contact. No surprise to see the quarterback go back to that. Well, that security blanket that’s been his tight end all game long. But finally, finally, this defense has an answer. Couldn’t get it the last two snaps. Another shot at six here on third and goal. Out of the gun, it’s Momes and he’s going to score. Touchdown Kansas City. The Chiefs grow the lead coming out of halftime. It’s a Maris Brown touchdown. Well, they definitely wanted to get that one out quick, Brock. They did just that. And it ends in six. We hear it all the time, but it is so true, Kate. This is a game about matchups. And when you see a throw that quick, it really was determined pre- snap. It was great design and tremendous execution. But Ker to try the point after. Extra point sent right down the middle and the Chiefs make it a 24-point ball game. Jaguars seven, [Applause] [Music] baby. [Music] [Music] But on now to kick this one away for Kansas City. His return starts at the five. Juke the defender and he’s brought down just inside the 25. The Jacksonville offense back on the field now. That score pushed the deficit to 24. So every opportunity to chip away at it important as they take the field. Jaguars look ready to go. Here comes first and 10. Lawrence throwing here. He had it for a moment, but a great defensive play to jar it loose. Incomplete. Brian Thomas Jr. his intended target. And that’ll bring up second down. And 10. Yikes. As that pass falls to the ground, Kate, you kind of just sense their desperation. Just kind of oozing out of them. Running out of time to start connecting on more of these and really break open the scoring in a way they just have not been able to do so far. And it looks great flying through the air, Brock, but problems on the business end as it falls to the ground. Third down coming up. Hey, Mr. Quarterback. Uh, that’s a throw that’s got to go somewhere else. Double coverage was waiting for thinking interception to be had. Incompletion still pretty good for the defense. No connection on the last play. And now it’s third down from the shotgun. Lawrence. He’s running for it and they finally bring him down. But that is a big gain and a new set of downs. As long as these are the results he’s getting, they’re going to be just fine with him calling his own number. He does such a good job of seeing the field and knowing when it’s his time to take it himself. Football on that 47 yd line. First down. Now give this up the middle to ETN. And he’s able to manage a couple on that run. Got to be rush hour, Kate, cuz there’s a whole lot of traffic up the middle right there. He ran right into some gridlock and he could only manage a few yards at most. Second down now, seven to go. [Applause] Lawrence a quick throw out wide and he has it to the 42 before they make the stop. It’s a gain of two. Brings up third and five. [Music] So now here’s third and five. Out of the gun, Lawrence. Kick behind the line and the ball is loose and this is picked up by the Chiefs. So they steal away possession and add some extra yards for their offense after that fumble return. You know, Kate, defenders today are taught. Don’t just go get the sack. Look at the sack and the fumble. It’s become an art form making that strip sack. And that play was a masterpiece. The Chiefs and Hollywood Brown back to the field once again. And their offense has been playing at an extremely high level as this has become a runaway quickly. They’ve scored each of their last two times out. [Applause] All right, the Chiefs in good field position here as they start out first and 10. Throwing now following the turnover. Brody and Vanuju and this is going to go as a gain of about three before he’s met and escorted out. Well, that’s a pretty similar result to a first down run play. Moves it forward, keeps you on schedule, and makes second and third down a whole lot easier to manage. Second and six coming up here. [Applause] Operating from the gun, here’s Momes. It was there, but he couldn’t hang on. That’s incomplete. Oh, that drop is such a bummer because it ruins the payoff of such a welldesigned play. Kate got the man open, beat the coverage, but then you got to go finish it. You got to go make that catch. I will say, keep that one in mind. They could revisit that play in the future. Third down. It’s Momes throwing the out complete and he’s out of bounds. It looked like they might have a shot block, but they’re going to be left two yards short. Now it’s fourth down. Here we go. Here’s one of those game situations that just puts a smile on my face cuz I could think from Pop Warner to the NFL, everybody on the field thinking the same thing. Can we go for it? Can we get one more shot? As you end up just short on that third down. And this is the punt you want every time. He bounces out of bounds and sticks them inside their own 10. Now the Jaguars offense ready to take over once more. They lost it in enemy territory their last time out. Never a spot you want to fumble. So I imagine Brock, it’s going to be two hands on the football as they return to the field. All right, working from the gun to start. First and 10 on the ground to begin this drive with ETN. And they finally stop him, but not before he picked up seven on that first down run. That run may not have gotten you a first, but sure nice little run to set the table. [Applause] Seven yds on that last play. So this is second and three. They go right back to ETN. And some excellent work to drive him all the way up past the 30 yd line. Give him 15 yds on the pickup there. And that’ll be good for a Jacksonville first down. That right there, that will make the coaches happy. He didn’t just get the first down, but got a healthy chunk of bonus yards afterwards. They’ve got first down from the 31. Lawrence looking to throw and he just hucks this one away. Wasn’t going to risk a throw or force something. He brings up second down. Kate, I got to believe he hearkened back to that earlier pick and thought the better of making another. Getting outside the pocket, he was either going to try to run for it, had nowhere to go, so he simply threw it away after the incompletion. Still at that 31 yd line. Second and 10 from the gun. ETN gets it and he’s unable to get away from that tackle. Good work by the defense. Nothing gained on second down. So close to a big loss of yards for those guys up front. One second sooner and they got a tackle behind the line, but a stop to celebrate nonetheless. Third and 10. Can this offense get it done? Here’s Lawrence to throw. And he makes the catch, but is hit before he can get that first down. They say he’s maybe a yard short. I know that completion doesn’t move the chains. I love it nonetheless. You make sure that defense is aware of every eligible player going out. And this time it was out of the back field with the running back that shows he’s adept at catching it as well. A full quarter to go, but they feel like they got to make their move now. They aren’t going for this. They’re going to try with ETN and he’s tackled with a first down yardage. That’s simply a bet being made that not only is your call or scheme better, but that your players just want it more than the big fellas on defense do. And clearly on that one, they did. 49 yd line. First and 10 from a yard shy of midfield. Inside handoff goes to ETN. Escapes a defender and finally they’re able to bring him to the ground. The ball carrier. Good rip on first down. That brings up second and two. Some offenses, well, they prefer to go run in that RPO situation. It’s a safer call, a little more conservative, but in this case, it gets him just as many yards as a short completion would have. After a good pickup, they’re set up with second and short. [Applause] Inside give here for two. And whatever they were trying to do there is not going to work. Defenders all over it as they take him down for a longrimage. Kate, it’s amazing how fast these guys are on the field and how fast your fortunes can turn. Second and short run, you’re feeling good about yourself, but with a negative play. Well, now comes a critical third down. Coming to the line for their ninth play of the drive. This is third and three. Back to throw. Here’s Lawrence. A throw left side caught by Brown and he’s got his guys into the red zone before someone can force him out. It’s a gain of 27 yds to move the chains. That’s just awesome. Kate, little bit of multitasking on that catch. Primary focus, as I always say, is he got to catch it first, but out of the corner of his eye, he knew exactly where to go and he gets a bunch of yak on top of it. [Applause] Here’s ETN on first down and he’s into the end zone. Touchdown Jacksonville. The Jaguars shrinking the lead some in the third. Travis ETN the touchdown. He broke the tackle he needed to, Brock. And how about that effort then to keep it going and eventually reach that end zone. Yeah, that’s awesome on the offensive side. Defensively, not every missed tackle is the same. It may be on a stat sheet, but sometimes that helped finish a play isn’t arriving quick enough and you’re the only one. The last line of defense and in that moment, you got to scratch, you got to claw, you got to tear to make the stop because a broken tackle, well, it could mean a touchdown. Liam Cohen keeping his kicker on the sidelines here. They’re going for two. The Jaguars will line up right side. They’re going Brown and he is hit well behind the line and goes down. They’re not able to make much of anything on that two-point attempt. Trying to chip away at that lead, but just not able to figure it out there to take another two points off. Yeah, every one of these calls at this juncture of the game tells a story and right now that story being told is this crew is feeling the pressure trying to chip away at those points. Maybe a little overaggressive as now they’re still down big. Terrible. Awful. All set for the kickoff. Little with the honors. Here’s Smith on the return. Jukes one defender and in the end he’s able to get it to about the 25 yd line before he’s hauled down. The Chiefs are out once again. Their offense led by Patrick Mahomes and he’ll be happy to keep letting it fly as much as he has all game. Look at these numbers. They show just how effective he’s been in captaining this offense. First call here coming from the shotgun. Now it’s Mahomes. It is caught left side and he’s going to be brought down here at the 42. That’s 16 on the pickup. And it’ll be first down Kansas City. First down Kansas City. I love throwing on first down. And when you see a first down pass just like that, it’s taking advantage of a matchup you plan for and you go out and execute. They’ll head up first and 10 from the 42. He goes back to him yet again. Complete. Following the play, one of the Jaguars in some distress as they hurry the medical staff out to look at him. Hey, wait a minute. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] halfway to the marker. It’s second and five from the 47. Defender arrives right as the ball does and the hit knocks it free. Incomplete. Well time strike by that defender to knock it free and it’ll be third and five coming up. Well, Brock, this substantial deficit sure hasn’t tone the edge that this defense is playing with, huh? If anything, feels like they might be getting more aggressive, looking to make some sort of impact play. And that’s because turnovers are really the name of the game for this defense at this point, Kate. That aggressiveness still super welcome, no question. But they know it’s not just incompletions, it’s taking the ball away that’s next. They gain 14 on the play and the Chiefs are going to have a first down. First down, Chiefs. Yeah, these end cuts maybe aren’t the hardest throws from a degree of difficulty, Kate, but it does take some courage as a quarterback to throw into congested spaces, but it can pay big dividends. First down now. Ball at the 39 yd line. Got his man. That’s Brown again and he runs this to the 25 before being brought down. Big gain. 14 on the play and it’ll be first down Kansas City. [Applause] They’ll give this up the middle to Pacheco. And without much room to work, he has a minimal gain on the final play of the third quarter. All right, we’ve reached the final quarter of Monday Night Prime Time. The Chiefs have set themselves up for the win here. Now just need to carry this lead through to the end. [Applause] [Applause] Second down now. Seven to go. Throwing is Momes. completed over the middle and they bring him down at the 18 yd line. Pass complete to number 87 Travis Kelce. A five yd pickup on the play and it’s third down. Drive has gone eight plays now as they face third and three. Here’s Momes. Oh, he’s going to run for it and they will score. Touchdown Kansas City. Touchdown Kansas City. The Chiefs put up even more points in a win. Patrick Mahomes the touchdown. His fourth total score of the game. Hey Kate, that play I don’t think it started out as a touchdown run. I think he was thinking first down, but all of a sudden a little bit of space opened up. Those afterburners kicked in and he made himself and his team a phenomenal play. But to try the point after right down the middle. It’s good. And the Chiefs grow their lead yet again. 38 Jaguars 13. [Music] [Applause] The owner is happy [Music] on now to kick this one away. Kansas City fielded at the seven coverage team gets him down at the 26 yd line. First down. The Jaguars done running back Travis ETN trottting back out to the field and his production has carried over into this second half. He keeps on running well even with the workload they’ve placed upon him. offense into the shotgun set as they line this up. First and 10. Here’s ETN to begin the drive. And he’s brought down as the drive starts out with a four-yd gain. That is simply a stay on schedule kind of run. Nothing more, nothing less, just right on schedule. Second and six. They’ll come up after that fouryd gain. It’s second and six. [Applause] up to the 35. But this is Shorts. Third down coming up. He made something out of that play for them. Everyone’s so concerned with defending the pass, they didn’t quite keep tabs on what he was doing as a QB. And it gave him just enough room to run. Third and a lone yard coming up. They’ll run here. ETN and his short game gets them a new set of downs. ETN win the early battle. Get a little leverage. Low man wins off the line and that’s all that was needed to ensure that first down right there. First and 10 at the 36 yd line. First down ball at the 36. ETN again along the sideline past midfield and he has this all the way across to the opposing 45. 19 yd. It goes as a gain of 19 yards and that’s a Jaguar first down. That’s just not the guy defensively you ever want the open field. Frankly, with the amount of space he had at one point, they’re lucky to have limited to the gain they did. Throwing on first down. Lawrence, he’ll try and run this. They’ll get 18 yds there. And that’ll be good for a Jacksonville first down. It’s a gain of 18. I can tell you what, that was the goal from the moment he took off, kept his eyes locked on the chains, and made sure he set them up with a new set of downs. He brings the offense up now for a first and 10. Now Lawrence, that pass caught by Strange and he’s brought down. They’re going to mark him at the 14. It’s a 13 yd play and that’s enough for the first. I can’t tell you how nice it is to have a big trustworthy tight end in the passing game. Such great size to have and he forces those defenses to find a way to try to match up when they can’t. [Applause] Tot gets it from the gun and he will score. Touchdown Jacksonville. The Jaguars putting up points in a game decided. Jaguars made the right read on the RPO inside the red zone. Brock, and things worked out. And you know what is so key about these RPOS’s? It’s that mesh point. It’s the details right there. Not immediately giving any indication of what they were going to do. And it created Kate the slightest of hesitations for the defense. And that slightest opportunity is all he needed to hit the end zone. on his little for the extra point. The point after splits the uprights and the Jaguars make it an 18-point game. 38 Jaguars 20. [Music] all set for the kickoff. Little with the honors. Here’s Smith on the return. This makes it up to the 25. Following the kick return, we’ve got somebody shaken up. So, we’re going to get a stoppage here as he’s attended to. [Applause] [Applause] Now Kansas City looks settled in and ready. Here we go. First and 10. They give to BCO to start the drive. They bring him down, but not before he picks up seven Bra to begin this drive. That is just a great drive starter. What every offense wants. Gives you a little bit of energy, a little juice, and now a really manageable second down. After a good pickup, they’re set up with second and short. [Applause] It’s PCO again. defender gets to him right around the line. It’s going to be marked as no gain. So, Brock, that means third down coming up. Simply nowhere to go on that counterplay, Kate. Backside defenders took away one side and they overwhelmed the blocking right in the middle. Third and just two to go. From the gun, it’s Momes putting the body on the line for his team. complete. It’s a pick up of 14 yds as the chains reset. A gain of 14 and a first down Chiefs. When coaches discuss their favorite plays of a game, I guarantee you this one’s going to be on it. Not just because of the catch, but because of the effort to go lay out and bring in an offtarget throw. Football on that 47 yd line. First down. running up the middle. Pacheco and a couple of teammates combining there for the stop after just one yard. Okay, this why you got to be careful to just run it always on first down. You got to break your tendencies. The casual fan, well, that casual fan knew what was coming, but more importantly, this defensive front did too. We’re back on EA Sports. We’ll pick things up in the fourth and final quarter. From the gun, it’s Momes. And this one too far in front of him. It’s incomplete. Looking for his wide receiver there. So now it’s going to be third and long. Those passes get more and more difficult as you try to get aggressive down the field. Those windows and throwing lanes, Kate, they’re not open very long. And it only takes a little bit for a throw to be thrown off. Third down. It’s Momes. Got his man. That’s Brown again. and he’s short of the first after a mild game. You can earn your money in the NFL in all sorts of different ways, but defensively in a league where you’re just not hitting as much in training camp, you’re not tackling as much as they got to in the old days. When you can make a play in the open field, keep them short like that, I promise you some money will follow. And a wellplaced kick here. Not quite on the goal line, but they’re pinned deep at their own 10. their own 10 yd line. The Jaguars and Trevor Lawrence set to take over on offense once again. And he has continued to own this defense and keep on throwing that football partner, making this performance one that he’s going to remember. Uh but as you like to say, the defense would probably rather forget. Jacksonville offense ready to get going. Here’s first and 10 from the shotgun. Lawrence finds him on the slant and he’s taken down here at the 16 yd line. That is a textbook first down completion. Sets up second and very manageable and creates space to take that shot downfield. After a good pickup, they’ve got second and four. Lawrence working from the gun. Finds him over the middle and he’s going to get this up to the 26 before being taken down. A 9yd gain and good for a first down. It sure seemed like he knew exactly where he was going with that right off the snap. [Applause] He brings the offense up now for a first and 10. Out of the gun, a give to ETN and they will finally catch up to him. Just a second before he can reach that 40. And that one goes for a gain of 11. And that’s a Jaguar first down. That’s just not the guy defensively you ever want the open field. Frankly, with the amount of space he had at one point, they’re lucky to have limited to the gain they did. Throwing on first down. Lawrence pass brought in by Parker Washington and he’s tackled after gaining a handful. Good luck defending that short yardage slant. Just not going to happen. There’s a reason this is a go-to play for just about any quarterback in every situation. Second and three now. [Applause] Lawrence hangs out to it. Nearly broke even, but the defenders followed that zone read well. It’s going to cost him about a yard. It’s easy for me to say up here in the friendly confines of the booth cape, but that was not the right read. And you hate seeing him absorb yet another hit at the end of the play. You never want him taking unnecessary shots throughout this game. Third down. Lawrence to throw. And he just gets rid of this one. But unfortunately that means fourth down coming up. in. There’s not a quarterback alive that enjoys throwing it away on third down. But that’s a good case right there of live to play another day. Live to play another series and don’t put the ball in harm’s way. Now, can’t blame him looking at that scoreboard, right? Might as well go for this on fourth down. Putting the tight end in motion. Desperation time here. And lobs this up left sideline looking for something big. He’s got it inside the 25 and good tackle, but a flag is down likely against the defense. Offense liked how that play went. They choose to decline the penalty. Fine. [Music] Now they’ll hit the line just outside the red zone following that big play. First down throw Lawrence. And this time they’re going to get to him before he can get that pass away. He goes down. It’s a sack on first down. We’ll see if it changes the play they go with now on second. This overwhelming pressure in these sacks after sacks after sacks. Well, it’s built this lead and you know it’s the way they want to finish it. Need to get that yardage back and a little bit more too. It’s second and 14. Another try following the sack. They’re on him again and he goes down again. It’s a repeat of the last play that’s going to bring them to third down. All right, I’m to the point of the game, Kate. Now we got to get the ball out of our hands. He has just taken a beating all game long and on this drive yet again. Find a way to protect, find a way to run and get the ball out of his hands. Look at the footwork there. Touchdown. The Jaguars get it back to within two possessions. Brian Thomas Jr. the touchdown. That’s some good oldfashioned playground football. Even at the elementary school, find the fastest kid and let him run. on is Little for the extra point. The point after splits the uprights and the Jaguars make it an 11-point ball game. Chiefs 38, Jaguars 27. [Applause] [Music] With time ticking away, they prepare for a must get onside kick. And the Chiefs cover off the kick. And he’s going to get stopped right around the 45 yd line. Well, kind of feels like we’re starting to get to that point, Brock. And what point is that, Kate? You know, the bold point of the game where you have to try something bold. Could end up becoming a play that finally sinks him, though. Yeah, it’s time for desperation. Without a defensive stop here, it’s really hard to lay out the scenarios for much success. Every second matters now when you don’t come up with that onside kick. The Kansas City offense set to take the field and they’re already up by two scores, Brock. But another one here would really put this one out of reach. [Applause] Ball on the 45. First and 10. Out of the gun, it’s Momes. Finds the in route complete. And that tackle stops him after a solid game. So a timeout comes in. It looks like the defense using its first stops this game as we get close to our two-minute warning. Hey, you like these results on first. That completion right there, right in the window where all options are now available to you on second down. That playbook wide wide open. [Applause] After a good pickup, they’ve got second and four. Pacheco gets it from the gun and he’s going to manage three for them on the play. Stopped just a little bit shy of the marker. Now before we reach the two-minute warning, we’ve got a timeout. That’s the second one used by the defense in this half. And it’s third down. [Music] [Applause] Third down, one yardd to go. Here’s Mahomes on the sneak and he’s going to be touched down as he gets him enough to pick up the first down. So, we will not reach the two-minute warning. The defense calling time here. 208 on the clock. Here’s first and 10 from the 34. Running out of the gun with Pacheco. Room to run inside the 20 and finally he’s down at the 5 yd line. They rip off a big chunk of field and it sets them up with first and goal. Victory formation here. Looks like they’re going to take a knee on first down. And they’ll kneel this down. There’s still some time to bleed off the clock, but the important factor is that the defense is helpless to stop it. You could just run that clock down as far as you’re able and take off every single second. Second down. Probably going to see him kneel it again here. They send a tight end in motion. Oh, Bronc, look at this. He’s setting up to throw it. Bails out of the pocket quick and he carries it in for the touchdown. The Chiefs have likely locked up the win right there. Patrick Mahomes the touchdown. So, an exclamation point there that caps off what and I think you’d agree, Brock, has been a dominating performance. Yeah, I would really in all phases, too. You know, I thought coming in that this would be a much closer game than how it’s turned out to be. And you got to give credit where it’s due. This offense has been outstanding throughout. Mhm. But Ker to try the point after. Right down the middle. It’s good. And the Chiefs push their lead to 18. 45 Jaguars 27. [Music] [Music] [Applause] Bucker on now to kick this one away. Kansas City. Return starts at the three. Jukes out a one stop. He’s brought down at what looks like the 24 yd line. The Jaguars done running back. Travis ETN trottting back out to the field. And as some running lanes have closed, he’s just found some new ones. Continuing to hit this defense. More good numbers well into this second half. Jaguars look ready to go. Here comes first and 10. out of the gun. Lawrence, he’s running with it. And this is brought to a stop at uh say the 34 yd line there. They come through with a nice gain there. Gain of 10. First down. You know, before the snap, you know, right before the snap, you may have to take off if the read isn’t there. That was a great adjustment. Made at the perfect time for the first down. Here’s first and 10 from the 34. [Applause] Lawrence looking to throw. Hits him on the in route. And they’re going to bring him down just a moment before he’s able to break it across midfield. They get 13 on the pickup. And that’ll be good for a Jacksonville first down. I may love watching a great thrower, but I love watching a well done route too, Kate. Make that guy think you’re trying to stack them only to drop your hips and cut right inside. Some good work to help reset those chains. That is incomplete. Down to 13 seconds left. Well, he found the route he wanted pretty quickly, Brock, but maybe I don’t know, he telegraphed who he wanted a little too much because that defender sure got there just as the ball arrived to force it loose. Yeah, this is one of those tough moments as an analyst, right? Because you’re right, offensively didn’t get the job done. But I’m going to give a gold star to the defense. Anytime you make contact and you disrupt that pass, that’s a job well done defensively. Second and 10. Here’s Lawrence. Hits him on the out route. And he’s going to go out with a pickup of three. So chipping away a few here ahead of this third down. Hey K, you know this from covering the Seahawks calling their preseason game when Pete Carol was there. If he said it once, he said it a 100 times. Stay on top. Stay on top. Stay on top. You’ll give up a short little out route like that, but just stay on top of the deep threat. Backfield is empty as they motion him outright. Throwing is Lawrence on third down. That’s Cox. He’s got Washington and they’re going to bring him down at the 36. So, it’s a win for the visiting Chiefs and they’re off to a good start in the preseason. Brock seen a lot of players fighting together for the victory. So that puts a bow on this one for my partner Brock Huard and everyone involved on our crew. I’m Kate Scott signing off. This has been another presentation of the NFL on EA Sports. It’s a win for the Chiefs as we bid farewell from Jacksonville.
