Orlando Magic vs Miami Heat Full Game Highlights October 5, 2025|NBA Preseason

41st alltime preseason meeting between these two clubs. And gang, I love to say with Taius Jones in the back court alongside Ben Cara. Good match up right there. Vera and Yoic. Desmond Bane, he going to take a lot of those, John. A a valued three-point shooter. Something the Magic were hurting at a year ago. Yeah, I think he’ll be looking to take eight or 10 a game for Orlando. They were last in the association at 31% a game beyond the ark. Oh, Bane on the drive. it. Yoic in the face with an elbow. He’d come running back as Adri get a score from Wiggins. Look at the pitch ahead. He’s a guy who really can catch it on the wings and streak to the basket and finish in transition. Great example to me of the strength of Andrew Wiggins and how Miami has to utilize it. You know, a lot of training campa used to a quicker tempo and Carol missing the long three. Rebound battle won by the very muscular Desmond Bane beginning his sixth season in the league. His debut with the Magic. Wendell Carter Jr. on a on a driveby, but he’s called for the travel. Little collision with Wiggins, but a travel on Wendell Carter. Looked like he tried to lean in and took a shot from Wiggins as he was trying to draw the foul, but it was a a really an an unbasketlike play there. or the way he leaned in. This pitch ahead is really to me what they need to do more often Miami to get out in transition. Let Andrew Wiggins use that length. He only needs one drill court defense on the Orlando side is set up. Miami wants to attack them, put them on their heels. Wiggins averaged 19 points a game last season in his 17 games with the Heat. Got injured late and struggled as did the rest of the team in the playoffs against Cleveland. Yoic gets to the paint. Great pitch for Hakez. Second try. Yoic gets it deflected away. Wiggins got to go back and get it. Pressured by Dilva. See the shot clock at four. Wiggins for three. Got it. Kaboom for Wiggins. He’s got the first five points of the preseason for the Heat. Big time shot making there with the clock going down. And how hard is he going to be to guard if he can consistently make that three-point shot? Really putting the defender in a quandry. Impressed with his versatility. He can score in a lot of different ways. Ben Carol comes up short. Magic have struggled to make shots so far in this game there. They’ve missed their first four and then that one drops for Taius Jones out of the corner. He’s so consistent as a point guard. Tus Jones, excellent decision maker with the ball in his hand this time. Opts for the three. Yoic gets set up by Powell. Bam on the offensive glass. Gets stripped on the way up and fouled by Paulo Pancero. They’re getting a a quick snapshot of how the Heat want to play it on the offensive end quicker this year. Wiggins, we talked about the ability to get out in the open floor. Here’s a a shot went 36% a season ago beyond the arc. And if he can continue to shoot at that level, he he will be very challenging to guard because you can’t play off him if he’s shooting that well. You try to crowd him, he can explode by you with that big first step. Bam. Matapio a similar role. Thirdyear captain, 9-year veteran. Guy coming off an 18.10 rebound a game season. Well, he with an early 7 to3 lead. This the match up. Ben Carro working against Yoic. Couple of young aspiring stars. Ben Carro to the basket for the bucket and the foul. Oh, he’s he’s talented. And you know, you see how they put the ball in his hands. That’s such a big guy at 610 250 lbs. He can really handle the ball. goes right at Yoic there being able to attack him off the dribble and gets to that spin move with some contact gets to the off left hand and you know the only thing about Paulo Beneros he is their cornerstone only played 46 games last year the injuries to him and Jaylen Suggs and France Vagner derailed their season Norman Pal so good at catch and shoot but that time ran out of space for the Heat’s first turnover of the preseason There’s a look at Jamal Mosley, the fifthear head coach of the Magic. A different set of expectations for them this year, J. Yeah, I think so. A lost a year ago in the first round of the Boston Celtics four to one and they went all in to get Desmond Bane to get themselves into the further into the playoffs making uh you know some critical moves trying to do it and they got a really young nucleus uh talented guys. Their expectations are high. D Silva go hits the challenge jump shot. Wiggins had his hand in there, but uh Tristan Dilva, the second year pro out of Colorado with a nice looking mid-range shot. Wiggins coming back rejected by Bangaro. Magic with their first lead. They come running across. That’s Payne trying to get by Wiggins. Good D by Wiggins, but he could Oh, does not commit a foul. a traveling violation on Bane. He’d have done a good job closing out on Desmond Bane, uh, who’s a career 41% three-point shooter. They haven’t, uh, allowed any open threes as of yet. And that forces the the hard drive inside. And then the shuffled feet, the lob by Hakez. Pam missed the dunk, gets it back. Yoic te’s it up and Wendell Carter Jr. brings it down for the Magic. Taius Jones tonight starting in place of Suggs threw a fast ball right into the seats. A rare turnover for a guy who’s been probably the best assist turnover guy in the NBA last seven years running. Yeah, Dilva actually should have slid more to the corner to catch that ball. came out of the hands of Norman Bow. Bane gets past Yoic. Carter Jr. maneuvering inside and Berrow gets the three and it’s short. D Silva gathering the rebound. Bankerro picking up another foul and I think it’s going to be number two on Yoic. Well, he is not known for his three-point shooting. That tends to be his weaker shot. So Heat were able to force him into that initial shot, but the problem is you got to block out extra rebounds, extra possession. And Ben Carro right back to the rim where he’s able to draw the personal foul, get himself to the line for two. Foul was on Hakez, not not Yoic, but Benerro, a physical 22-year-old out of Seattle, averaged 20 points a game as a rookie. Was the rookie of the year in an All-Star two seasons ago. It was strange. Abdominal injuries hit Jamal Mosley in the gut last year. First one to Ben Carro, second one to France Vagner. It really derailed their season along with the injury to Suggs. Yeah, I thought the three of those guys shockingly only played six games together. That’s their nucleus. When you look up Ben Caro and Vagner and and Suggs, if they’re not on the floor with the commitment they’ve made financially and from a skill perspective, they really are going to struggle uh to make plays. Bam trying to get past Carter. Could not. And here comes Desmond Bane in Orlando. Bane gets tripped up and fouled by Norman Pal. Well, that is the the core group of Magic. John look some more depth. Uh but it’s a pretty talented group and again the expectations high. They want to make a playoff run. They know their time is now. When you’re putting out that kind of money with that kind of talent, you got to convert. To get Desmond Bane, they had to send away Contavius Cowwell Pope Cole Anthony. Four future first round picks and one future first round pick swap. They believe in Bane who’s still a young pro, 27 years old. Desmond Bane spent the first five years with Memphis. That’s good. A triple. Great example of what he can do. Again, creating off the dribble himself. Defense just gave him too much space. and Norman Powell lets it rip. Careerhigh 21.8 points a game for the Clipper. Borderline all-star type season for them. And a really opportunity to to contribute right away here in Miami. That was a 30ft three-point shot for Norman Pal. This is Dilva changing the pivot foot and scoring for the Magic. That’s his second score. The Magic with a four-point lead. That’s five minutes into the preseason opener for both these clubs. Bam. pumping with Carter and Lindhill Carter going to get call for his first foul. Uh he’s made it very clear he takes it seriously. Udonis Hasslam handing him the baton to to really continue that heat culture going forward. And John Hasslam was in heat training camp every day. Matter of fact, was in uniform and and took part in a lot of the practices. John, he can still get around at 45 years old. He’s still scrambling for offensive boards. A tremendous carry of the culture to this moment in heat time. The heat down by two. That’s Ben Carroll launching and missing the three. Carter Jr. over the top of Hawz. No put back and Bane puts an end to it with his fourth rebound of the quarter. Oh, Bane stripped him going up and looks like they’re going to get a foul on Bane here. Great job by Bane. Took it right off the glass. Bust out dribble. How many big men in the league can do that with that kind of skill, great timing, going at a much smaller player and just Johnny’s been at 18 points or better per game over the last three seasons. What do you see ahead for for Bam this season with this cast around him? Yeah, I I talked to him a little bit about that and, you know, in our media day, he he just talked about continuing to be, you know, a leader. I think we’ll see him look for his three-point shot more, too, E. I mean, he really came on strong uh at the end of the season when you think about it. 79 made threes overall last year after making just 23 for his through his first seven seasons. 23 for his first seven seasons. 79 last year. The confidence he has in that shot really important because if you have to come out and and guard Bam as a bigger player, he can get around you. He’s so effective with that dribble. Bam out of bio. Five points all from the free throw strike along with those four rebounds. Magic have already substituted pretty liberally. Jonathan Isaac on the handle. This is Anthony Black, the thirdear man out of Arkansas working against Hawz. Stolen away by Andrew Wiggins. He’d have numbers. Threeon two. Yoic hammers it down. That’s the way the Heat want to play on the offensive end this year. Nice lead by Norman Pal. vision on the move making that play and Yovic running the floor the 610 guys got great length and athleticism to make those types of plays. Big man Goa Bataz in for the Magic. That’s their first round draft pick the rookie point guard gets the the loose ball. Jet Howard, thirdyear man out of Michigan, the son of Jawan Howard getting on the scoreboard. his first touch of the game and Bam going right back to the free throw strike. Bam Adabio getting seven first quarter free throws. The defense suffocating and pulling it away is Andrew Wiggins threeon-one break and right over the top with the Yovic finish. These train player when you can score easily like that uh allows you uh to get into the flow offensively. It also helps your defense because you’re you’re starting to get some momentum on a string together being able to force turnovers and really put the other team on their heels. Anthony Black committed that foul. That’s a look at at a rookie Ethan Thompson out of Oregon State. He was with the Oyola Magic last two seasons. Interesting backstory that we’ll tell about him as the game progresses. Bam Adobay just feasting of the stripes. Seven of eight free throw shooting for the Heat. They’ve all come from Adabio. A game even at 17. Jed Howard driving in on Kesha Johnson. Loose ball to Bataz surrounded by heat defender. He dribbled it out of bounds. They are. You see Simone Fonteo, Drew Smith, Keshan Johnson all in the game from Miami. I think that foul was on Bam. It’s a very big long physical front court that Orlando puts out there on the floor. puts a lot of pressure on Bam. Uh not only do does he have to help his teammates at times, but he’s got to get back into the action, block out and and make a play. Rebounding the ball and picks up the foul there. Bam comes out. Khel Wear checks in. Be interesting to see how the preseason progresses for Kell. He ended last season as a starter. He’s in a battle with Nola Yovic for that spot alongside Bam this year. in the Isaac. Back outside it goes Anthony Black and he gets fouled coming across the paint. So Ethan Thompson picking up the foul. Ethan Thompson played four seasons at Oregon State. Started all 127 games he played out there. By the way, he he’s the son of former Syracuse star Stevie Thompson, who’s now an assistant coach out at Oregon State. I remember Stevie Will. Played against him uh in my alma mater when he was at Syracuse. He was a good ball handler. Stevie Thompson little undersized. His son right now continuing the family tradition getting a the quality time here with the Orlando Magic. John Drew Smith a gripping story for for the Heats. Eric Spolzer talked about his superpowers in the preseason of of grit and toughness and perseverance. Vontekio’s first shot in a heat uniform as tall and slender Jonathan Isaac comes down with a rebound for the match. Now, back to what you’re saying, Drew Smith provides some structure, some stability as a point guard and and a scrapper coming up with the loose ball there. A great example. Active hands. Look at that. Down on the floor already. Drew Smith converting a a potential turnover there for Miami. Active hands here. Watch the right hand coming right in. notched him in training camp during the week up at FAU. Every day you you kept seeing him do Drew Smith type things which the coaching staff absolutely cherishes. A lot of intangibles. Uh he’s just very physically tough. Uh but his ability to make plays on both ends of the floor offensively as a point guard, defensively on the ball, really good pressure on the ball, active in the passing lanes with those hands. Chase Richardson against Ethan Thompson. This is the rookie Jace Richards. The pick and roll up top. Good help by Keshaw Johnson. Bataz two on the shot clock and Fontekio took it away. Simone a rugged defender where good catch inside. He gave up the space had really good possession inside and Batazi’s length kind of pushes where outside. Black on the move. Good hands by Drew Smith. That defense, John, you know well, you got to play with your feet and your hands. And the Heat active right now with their hands. Anything coming near the defender with the ball swinging in front, they are going at it and knocking it away, making it challenging for this Orlando offense. Anthony Black to the paint and a reach in there from Fonteio of Simone Fonteio picked up in the offseason tray that sent Duncan Robinson to Detroit. And if you’re expecting a carbon copy of Duncan Robinson from from Simone, don’t don’t even think about that. But John, he can make threes, but his game is is more than that. He’s rugged defender and and a physical Italian player who got some experience as a fourth year pro. and Eric Spolstra sees a role for him ahead. 70 for that 40% if they can by getting some quality shots. Uh I think his ability to defend and rebound, you know, brings some additional elements to his game. He’s not just out there as a shooter. Kesha Johnson’s pass deflected away by Bataz, but the heat keep it. This is Ethan Thompson going against Chase Richards. Drew Smith. Kaboom. Drew Smith, you you just feel good seeing him out on the floor and productive again going into his fourth NBA season. The former Missouri Tiger puts the Heat in front. Richardson driving on Thompson. Cut him off at the baseline. But Taz turning into a double team. Two good defensive plays in a row from Ethan Thompson. Black in trouble and the shot clock expires. That’s a good segment. He he has superpowers. This is a guy that’s been waved four times, John. He was talking We welcome you back here in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The Heat and the Magic opening the preseason cutting through the lane and he was fouled. He got grabbed on that hard back cut. KL Wear leading him with a bounce pass. Anthony Black with the reach in there. He’ll pick up the foul. actually gave it to Jet Howard, but Black and Howard a little firepower off that that magic pench as we get a look at Simone Fontekio 67 210 pounder. He played for Italy in the Euro Championships and and did well. Had a 39point game against Bosnia when he went six of nine from three. But Eric Spolstra wasn’t talking so much about his shooting, he’s talking about his defense and they’re going to ask him to defend some tough wing players this year. Miami nine for their first 10 tonight at the free throw line. I love when the Heat extend their defense man-to-man full court really gets you into that defensive mentality as a player out there and really runs the clock down. Puts the offensive team at at a disadvantage. They have to really play much faster than they want. Magic caught the heat in the switch. But where cherry picking that rebound? Look at the run out. Fonteo underneath for Keshot Johnson. That’s the right decision. Twoonone. Fenteio with the drop off pass and Johnson the recipient. Easy score for Miami. Another transition basket for the Heat. Yeah, positive sign for for Miami turning training camp drills into reality with an uptempo, quicker offense. This is an excellent defense. Number two defense in the league a year ago and the majority of players back. So, no slouches here. Miami has been doing this against uh speeding them up and and being able to take advantage. Drew Smith for Wear. Second try got stripped but Wear got fouled. Nice little active sequence for KL Wear on the move. If you want to play fast and again the the reason a lot of teams can’t do it is they turn the basketball over. Miami has a lot of guys who can handle the ball well. That makes them harder to guard. If they can continue to share it and be efficient doing it, it would be really nice and and could really shoot the the offense uh in the arm, providing a lot more easier baskets. Both teams, by the way, in the bonus is where made the first, missed the second. Miami with a six-point late first quarter lead. A wear out checking Baz Jace Richardson comes around the screen. We get a square down on the ground. You can’t be leaning and using your shoulders or body to to knock off the defender. Nice cut by Ethan Thompson. Sets up Kell for the jump hook. Aware striking near the basket. He’s got three quick points in the heat of extended out to an eight-point lead. I always like his ability to score with either hand. That was his off hand, his left hand, and just caught it. Very instinctive to finish. Oh, Jed Howard. Speaking of finishing with a with a flush, Jed Howard his second score cuts the heat lead to six. Ethan Thompson. Now it’s Keshot Johnson banking it in. Keshot Johnson earning himself a a contract in the offseason after a couple of really strong seasons in the G-League with a Sou Falls Sky Force. Very energetic and athletic is Keshot. In and out on the jumper by Isaac. Under a minute left, first quarter, a collision between Thompson and Richardson. And Ethan Thompson going to be whistled for that offensive foul. Second foul on Ethan Thompson. Good job by the rookie Jace Richardson. Just a 19-year-old out of Michigan State and the son of former NBA player. He’s got size and able to get to that right hand finish there at 66. He will make that play happen. Go Pataz up on the high post. The handoff to Black for the three. Long rebound of Richardson and that’s in and out again for Jed Howard. Call Wear with another rebound. Yeah, they continue to to struggle out from three. Two two of eight now, I believe Orlando is. And you know, that was their Achilles heel a season ago. They can score inside, but really out beyond the arc, they have been very poor. Drew Smith turned it over. Kesha Johnson
