‘Now the pressure is on the Phillies’ — Derek Jeter after the Dodgers take Game 1

Phillies were beating Otani. Great pitching match up. The Philills back into the bullpen had been so so good. And then all of a sudden the home run, you’re like, “Oh my, the Dodgers are going to win this game, aren’t they?” And now they’re up one nothing and feel great about the way their rotation is set up. You know, I’ve been in the other side, Kevin, and some wins just feel like they’re bigger than just one win. I mean, Phillies did so many things great. They started early. They had the fans in the game. They got to Otani a little bit. Otani on the other side goes 0 for four with four strikeouts, three looking. And somehow or another is T. Oscar Hernandez who gets benched six weeks ago with a lot of pride. Give Dave Roberts a lot of credits. Puts him on the bench and since he’s been dynamite last 19 games, seven home runs, 20 RBI’s and today again the hero in October. How about Dave Roberts? Yeah, just pushing all the right buttons. He seems to push the right buttons year after year after year. We talked about this series earlier today saying how we we kind of wish it was a sevename series because this is a heavyweight fight right here and you know normally you would say oh you okay look Dodgers came back they they stole one from the Phillies it’s that much more important in a fivegame series so now the pressure is completely switched to the Philadelphia Phillies because they cannot leave here and go back to LA down two games. Philadelphia had to win that game tonight. Let me tell you why. When you think about the Dodgers winning a game, the first thing you look at is what Otani did. He pitched really well, but offensively he went all for four tonight and they still got away with a win as a visitor. That sent a big message to the Philadelphia Philly. I think they just walk into some trouble tonight. I know it’s the first game, but tomorrow he’s not going to come as a pitcher. He’s going to come as a offensive player and that’s what he’s really good at. So look up. Yeah, Poppy talking about tomorrow you have Snell pitching and Snell pitches re well Monday actually, but he Well, it’s actually almost the same. We’ve been here for too long, people. But but he is it tomorrow? Something like that. He pitches really really well against the Phillies and he dominates and I mean dominates Harper and Schwarber. So not such good news for the Phillies. Yeah. I mean Derek your point too about Dave Roberts, you know, their bullpen has been uh a little bit of a mess back into the season and trying to figure it out. And so today he throws out Tyler Glass now does a good job. Vessia who’s been up and down gets a big out. And then Roki Susaki who was hurt most of the year. His velocity was way down and just for the playoffs he’s thrown oneonone and now he’s your closer. He knows his players. Unreal, right? He knows his players. He trusts his players. He puts them in a position to succeed. It’s almost like the Dodgers just I don’t know if I’m saying it right because they’re not going through the motions. But the regular season, they’re just saying, “Okay, we’re just going to get ready for the postseason.” And then we just turn it on because we know what it takes to win. But it all starts with Dave Roberts. That’s what they did with Show like first one inning, two innings, three innings. He just slowly upped his game and now he throws six innings and was unbelievable in his playoff debut.

  1. The Phillies beat themselves with their trademark silent playoff bats and terrible manager. It’s a shame because Sanchez completely dominated LA for the first five innings and the wheels just fell off with two outs in the sixth. GO PHILS.

  2. Ohtani pitched well had 1 bad inning and struckout 9 batters, he retired the last 15 out of 17 batters, the Phillies big 3 Turner Schwarber Harper went 0-9 struckout 5 times against Ohtani today, and even though Shohei did'nt get a hit he extended his on base streak to 34 straight games combine regular season and playoffs.

  3. I want to know why Ohtani gets to play 'technically' two positions. He can't be a DH and a pitcher in the same game. It goes against everything in the baseball game. When he was taken out as pitcher, he should have been out… period. He never should have been playing both from the start. Who in the MLB was paid off to make a rule, just for him, in 2022? Brooklyn Bums cheated as far as I'm concerned. Curse of the Bambini on you!

  4. As a dodgers fan the Phillies still have other games left . Let’s not count this over just yet. They have a decent pitcher tomorrow on the mound for them if they can get to Blake early I’m scared tbh lol. Great baseball today tho and I loved the atmosphere in Philly

  5. As a Phillies fan one silver lining I can take from this game is we are back to where we are comfortable, the underdogs, everyone counting us out, backs against the wall with no one believing in us. If you count this team out before the dodgers get to 3 wins you can insane. Give me all the numbers you want about Snell vs Kyle and Bryce, I got my money on them two every time! Let’s go Phil’s we ain’t done fightin just yet!

  6. Roberts resorting to starters for relief pitching could end up biting the Dodgers. Arms will get tired and Roberts will have to use the pitchers in the bullpen he's trying to avoid using.

  7. Although you give credit for Shohei's progression in pitching this season to Roberts, Roberts and Shohei constantly communicated with each other. The player and coach relationship is very important!!! 🤙🤙🤙

  8. In a hot series …its important to get that 1st win…and the Dogers now have that advantage of this 5 game series….keep pressing keep focus and play as a champion team and this can be a back to back….Go Dodgers

  9. With the exception of one inning where he gave up three earned runs, Ohtani was flawless. He kept the heart of Phillies' lineup off balance. They can never figure out his curveballs, sweepers, and fastballs.

  10. Phillies fan here. We can’t hit in the clutch. 0 excuse for Harper schwarber turner and bohm coming up with nothing. Realmuto always comes through post season. These guys get too uptight and desperate and just need to chill.

  11. The Phillies pitchers made two mistakes that the dodgers capitalized on. The Dodgers can’t keep throwing starters as relievers though. They have to use their pen at some point 🤷🏻

  12. Ohtani pitched a 6 inning gem with 1 shaky inning. This was his 1st post season game after TJ. He shut down phillies sluggers, top 3 went 0 for 9, 5 Ks. And they are harping on Ohtanis hitting? Come on man.

  13. In MLB, noTeam's got a better lineup than us. NoTeam’s got better SP pitching than us. We’re built to win five straight championships — just like the old Yankees.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

  14. It is a poor game managed by Phillies. As a unit, they are not taking the home court advantage to be total aggressive at all angles. They just play too so-so cautiously.
