Edmonton Oilers News: Jones Waived | TRADE COMING? | Other Possible Roster Moves

Hey friends, this is Dolan TV. Glad to have you aboard this afternoon as we get set up to go over the final 24ish hours before the Edmonton Oilers have to submit their opening night cap submission for the NHL. And of course, we know Zack Heyman’s outcome, but there might be a couple more outcomes we’re not known yet. The Oilers only waved one player today. Of course, that was Max Jones. So, interesting to see there. We’ll get to that post in a moment. But for the Oilers, there are a ton of outcomes, as there usually are every single year as to how this could play out. So, I look forward to going over all that with you here in a matter of moments as we get into today’s video. So, if you are new to the channel right now, I’d consider hitting that subscribe button. It’s going to be a busy first week of the NHL for the Edmonton Oilers. So, be glad to have you aboard as a regular viewer. easy and free to do. So, promised you Max Jones. Let’s do it. The Oilers waved Max Jones today. Again, this was something that I think uh right from kind of the time he got injured in training camp. It started to feel like it was going to be a possibility for the Oilers. Just Max Jones never really grabbed a foothold. Um and he was in deep to try and make the competition this year or try and beat out the competition this year in training camp. Uh, obviously Jones, a guy that came over from Boston alongside Trent Frederick, had a stellar debut for the Oilers by fourthline metrics and then just kind of quietly went after that and a guy who will be a valued member on a young squad Bakersfield Condors this year. So that’s Max Jones. So that leaves well what we know one more move for the Edmonton Oilers to pull off to be cap compliant for the opening night roster. So Jason Greger said today, well basically this is the kind of move here. There’s only one more move because we are already expecting David Tamasic to be sent down tomorrow as he doesn’t require waiverss. So the Oers will paper transaction him call him back up in time Tuesday or for Wednesday. But they need another move whether it be trade LTIR or of course um you know just shuffling a guy like Howard or Seavoy down to Bakersfield for the time being. There is some cap situation problems with that with the bonuses. So stay tuned. We’ll cover hopefully all of that here in a matter of moments. But for the Edmonton Oilers, a lot of weird outcomes today just by seeing uh we’ll get to that in a moment. uh just to see that they didn’t end up uh obviously you know moving around more players than you thought Curtis Lazar as you saw there there’s something there for me to talk about in a moment uh possible Oilers moves move either one of Matias Yanmark or Jake Walman to the LTIR that of course does make sense as well we know Yanmark’s been missing a while so has Walman and if you end up you know needing extra space if you LTI At least that allows you to free up the calf space, free up uh obviously as well the situation there where you can move the body and it all makes sense. That said, I I don’t know. I’m debating it right now leading up into this video with Patrick from the Oilers Fanatic. Does Jake Walman make more sense? Does Matias Yanmark makes more sense? There looks like there is some uh stuff on this line number two here where we’ve got send Howard down despite the bonus cap situation. uh Howard and Seavoi there there’s talk today that they may well get sent down as well alongside Tamasik because they don’t need waiverss that allows you to do the situation you keep Yanmark on IR and then you activate of course you know you you activate Zack Heyman to LTIR and that allows you to call up Howard to Mashik and Seavoi and then Yanmark just returns when he returns he’s just on IR anyway it doesn’t matter and away you go that actually does carry some weight now that I’m looking at it and talking about it. So, possibly that could be a move. The Oilers really looked down into doing obviously as well. Jake Walman has been said to be ready for opening nights. So, unless something has gone ary that we don’t know about today, uh that is the likely outcome. There will be a follow-up video later tonight kind of recapping once we know more. Uh and then of course there is the outcome where Jason Greger did mention a potential trade for the Oilers. Now this is to be said you could have thrown Troy Deter on waiverss today. You could have thrown in Curtis Lazar on waiverss today, but those are guys that do have NHL pedigree, have spent a ton of time in the NHL. And I think from an organization standpoint, specifically around Troy Ster, a respectful thing, much more so, would be to trade him for a low-end pick than throw him on waiverss for his service to the team here. Troy Stetcher being a deadline acquisition and a guy who fought through some injuries early in his Oilers tenure. And then, yeah, you know what? He came in and he was an impactful player last year for us. So, you know, to just wave him because of wanting to keep Alec Regula instead, I I don’t think that’s necessarily the way the Oilers would go. And as well, that said, he would have a lot of interest on the waiver wire. So, if the Oilers had caught wind of that prior to this morning, there might be something to be said about, you know, the Oilers now are exploring trades with those teams or those teams out there knowing other teams were interested and have already started lining up at the Oilers doors with offers for Troy Ster. Now, that said, there’s obviously always the possibility that another body could be traded at any point here leading into tomorrow’s I think it is 300 PM Mountain time submissions. So, you know, like th this is all a fool’s errand at this point trying to guess how this is going to play out. But what I will tell you about this right now from an Oilers fan perspective and from doing this so many times in a row now, year after year, is the roster is going to take a hell of a long time to get out. that’s guaranteed. Uh, you know, the deadline’s like 3 p.m. and it won’t be out until 7:00. That’s typically the way it’s gone the last few years. Uh, Jake Walman, right? We know, um, unless something goes wrong today in the press conference with Chris Noblock following practice that you should expect Walman in the in the lineup on opening night. So, we won’t see him LTI, I don’t think. But again, there is still that possibility. what he didn’t skate today for the Oilers. Regula was in Nurse’s spot. So, that’s kind of how that breaks down a little bit there, too. The Oilers might be going with the 7D, keeping steter around simply because there might be more to this Walman injury than meets the eye. That again, I didn’t want to steal that straight up. I did want to talk more about Yanmark, but that is kind of where Patrick’s angle is on this. Yanmark, we know he’s just kind of gone down here in camp. And if YTR him instead of irring them, I think that allows for the Oilers to, you know, keep Seavoi and Howard on the roster, avoid the bonus cap situation because of bonuses and sending them down and not being on the opening night submission. So, there is a ton of weird stuff here that the Oilers will have to get through over the next 24 27 hours as we get into that 3 p.m. 5:00 p.m. time tomorrow. and it’s just kind of it’s updating as we go. So, I I promise you we’ll have more on it. But again, Max Jones obviously that was the obvious move. I think that was pretty clear. I think as well Curtis Lazar was a pretty obvious move for the Oilers. Again, just a guy that I I don’t think really necessarily stole a job in camp. Again, he was competing against Noah Phelp and Phelp by all measures has made the team this year. So, uh that’ll tell you what you need to know about Curtis Lazar at least early on. And that’s not to say I wish Curtis Lazar ill or anything. It’s just again I’m thinking, you know, he would have been an easy guy to clear this roster space. So that’s why again, even though, you know, if there’s something worse with Wman, yes, it makes sense to LTR him, but it really feels as though there is something going on there with Matiasmark that’s going to keep him out a little while. Again, that’s where, you know, the theory around maybe IR instead of LTI and you send down Seavoi and Howard makes sense and I I understand it, right? The oiler the Oilers at the end of the day will do the absolute best thing possible for themselves as a team. We may never see it again. We always look for the most exciting outcome and it’s usually the lamest outcome, but for some reason over the past 2, three years, it has worked out absolutely beautifully when it comes to the cap picture for the Edmonton Oilers. Two back-to-back Stanley Cup finals. And Canada doesn’t usually get those for a team more than once every few years. And the fact that the Oilers have done that backtoback years is pretty dang special. So right right now we wait, we sit, we listen, we see what’s next and well, we’ll see if anything happens here. As there has already been a trade in the NHL today. I would direct you to the Dolly TV shorts feed to get the update on the trade between the San Jose Sharks and the Philadelphia Flyers. It can also be found within the Beyond the Edmonton Oilers 2526 season playlist. But you know what? For right now, I think unless the Oilers really go out there and make a big announcement here in the next half hour, it’s time to get going with the Toronto Blue Jays today. It’s been a sleepy Sunday so far, doing laundry and getting prepared for what is going to be a game two of the ALDS with the Blue Jays up one- nothing and a chance to throw it back to the Bronx with all the pressure on the New York Yankees. Stay tuned, friends. For right now, though, I am up on out of here.

The Edmonton Oilers likely have a couple more roster moves to make tomorrow. Will we see a trade, or the lame option to make the opening roster happen?
