[Canucks] General Manager Patrik Allvin announced today that D Victor Mancini and D Tom Willander have been assigned to Abbotsford (AHL).

  2. IMO Mancini has been the best defensemen between EP25 and Willy, and deserves to be on the roster. Feel kinda bad for him

  3. Sucks that Mancini got sent down but this probably means that Cootes makes the team to start and they weren’t willing to risk Bains and Karlsson getting plucked on waivers

  4. There’s still a chance people get shifted up and down. The paper roster is usually never the exact one we see on opening night

  5. I suspect he returns after Cootes plays his games and then they send Bains to waivers assuming he hasn’t blown expectations out of the water.

    Team needs a scoring winger pretty bad up front. I like Bains but kinda grimace at the Bains-Chytil-Garland line. Buncha shots to goalies crest lol.

    Saw somewhere Bruins waived Blumel. I would jump ALL OVER that. Legit NHL player there IMO.

  15. I know people are panicking a bit over this. There could still be changes and Mancini could still find himself playing sooner than later. Also injuries happen. Mancini/Willander will get games just maybe not to start.

    I assume the most ice time is going to go to Willy, Mancini, and Kudry.

  18. I guess this means Forbort will be ready for the season opener because he can play the right side on a pairing with DPetey. Otherwise, Mancini deserves to make the team over DPetey but he’s right handed and I would rather Forbort than Mancini. Essentially, DPetey will be playing over P.O Joseph.

  22. It makes sense. Junior kinda solidified his spot last year when he pretty much never left his spot near the end of the season. It was Mancini going up and down. Willander still needs some much needed time with Abby and Coach Manny. Have high hopes we can make finals again in Abby though, this team is looking good.

  23. So here’s my interpretation on all this: Blueger didn’t practice today and our only extra forward who’s healthy right now is Karlsson, so risking loosing either of him or Bains on waivers could turn out to be dicey with only a few days until the season opener.

    Forbort is a lock to play in the 3rd pair and PO Joseph seems like the obvious candidate for the 7th dman spot that can sit the majority of games. And that’s hard to find in our current roster: a defenseman old enough who doesn’t need development and can fill in responsibly whenever he needs to play because of other injuries, specially with the likes of Brisebois hurt. So risking loosing him on waivers doesn’t seem optimal as well.

    For Mancini and Willander, I think the goal is to have them play as much as possible. Having them sit as our 7th or 8th D just doesn’t make sense. If Forbort can’t play thursday, I have little doubt that they will play DPetey – Mancini on their 3rd pair on opening night – just like they practiced today. If Forbort is a GTD and PO can’t go, then they just have to call up Mancini to be their 7th D. It’s either him, Kudryavtsev (who needs to play) or Jimmy Schuldt. And Schuldt is a no go in the NHL for me.

    So yeah, I’m a big Mancini fan and thought he was awesome this preseason. But I wouldn’t take this as “Mancini didn’t make the team, he should be there!!!!!”, it’s quite likely we see him back with the Canucks soon enough, either rotating with DPetey/Forbort in the 3rd pair or filling for injuries.

    And with all that said, I can still see him challenging Myers for his spot alongside Marcus by the middle/end of the season. That’s our way forward IMO

  24. Honestly I could see a MPetey-Mancini pairing before too long once we realize we need more players puck movers after Hughes-Hronek. Or if there’s an injury on the right side

  25. This makes perfect sense. I don’t get why people like Mancini over Petterson. In two or three years Petterson is going to be our best defenceman.
