Kansas City Chiefs vs. Jacksonville Jaguars | NFL Regular Season | Week 5 | Madden NFL Prediction

Hey, it’s the National Football League. This is the NFL on EA Sports. [Applause] We’ll see Trevor Lawrence and the Jacksonville Jaguars taking on Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs with its distinctive swimming pools in the upper deck. There’s a look inside Everbank Stadium here in Duvall County, Florida. Brandon God and Charles Davis, thrilled to be with you from the broadcast booth. And partner, before we get this thing started, what are you going to be watching? Who gets off to a fast start? In horse racing terms, they talk about catching a flyer out of the gate. Who sets the pace and makes the other team chase? [Applause] [Music] Very Here’s the kicker. Harrison Buter ready to get this one started. And off we go from Jacksonville. And the opening kickoff will not be returned as that will be a touchback. So here’s the first drive now for the Jags. And they’re led by the number one overall pick in the 2021 draft, Trevor Lawrence. And you want to talk about enormous expectations being placed on a quarterback. How about what Trevor Lawrence faced coming out of college? But the good thing for him, he’s used to it. He had the same type of expectations leaving high school and going to Clemson. They always expect him to be a franchise savior, whatever team he joins. And to his credit, he shouldered those expectations. He’s doing everything in his power to follow through. And he’s upended at the 33 following a good pick up of eight. And their coach told us the other day that they wanted to get him in a nice groove right out of the gate. And one way to do that, give him quick throws where he get the ball out of his hand in a hurry as he did there. Here’s a second and two now from the 33. Single. A shotgun snap. And again to ETN and this will be a Jaguars first down as the tackle made at about the 38. So, here’s a first and 10 at the 38. [Applause] Here’s Lawrence. Open man. This is Brenton Strange, the tight end. And he’ll be taken down, but not before he works it past the 50. 16 yds that time on the pickup for the Jags. And a first down. Good job there to locate his tight end, Charles, in the middle of the field. Yeah, he has good passcatching abilities and if they’re able to continue to find him here in the early going, I think it’ll help out his teammates out on the perimeter. You can take the big shots later if he occupies their attention. [Applause] So now first and 10 in Chief’s territory at the 46. [Applause] Two yards the gain on the keeper and it’s second down. Anytime you decide to use your quarterback as a runner, most of the time when you design a play, you’re expected to break a little bit bigger than this one because when you run him on short gains, your riskreward and him taking hits, I’m not sure that’s the payoff they were looking for. [Music] From the 44 yd line, here’s the second and eight. Now Lawrence room to maneuver at the 35 and he’ll be brought down with a first down as the tackles made at the Chiefs 33. 11 yds there as they connect on the quick slam. [Applause] Hey, hey, hey, hey, on first and 10, it’s Lawrence. He’s got Thomas yet again complete. And he’ll get this one down to about the 20 yd line. 13 yds as they’ve got the connection working. His second catch in a row. First down. That’s the third time on this drive that these two have connected with each other. They’ve got a real rapport going and right now it’s paying off with big chunks of yardage as shown by that last play. [Applause] On first and 10, it’s ETN. A gain of three. Second down. [Applause] Let’s go. Delaware will throw. Got his man complete over the middle. That’s Thomas and the Jags are going to be looking at first and goal as they move this down to the four yd line. A lot of precision being shown on this opening drive. They’ve been methodical. They’ve been crisp. And as a reward, they’re going to be set up with an early first and goal. A terrific opening drive has them knocking on the door. First and goal. Now Lawrence, eluding the he takes it in. Touchdown Jacksonville. Trevor Lawrence taking it in from four yds out. And the Jaguars get the upper hand as they’re on the board first here this afternoon. They got to love that nineplay drive results in six points. That means they’re doing the dictating. That means that they’ve described how the game’s going to go. They’re playing at their tempo, at their pace. If you’re on the other side of the ball, if you’re playing defense, defense is not methodical. They’ve got to go in there and shake things up and create a little havoc. Now the try here for the pulling after and this is up and good. The score now 7 nothing Jaguars. So a nice drive put together there. They go 75 yds in nine plays and it was capped off by Trevor Lawrence taking it in himself. [Applause] [Music] after the touchdown. Cook now to kick this one away and a decent return out to the 27 yd line. [Music] [Applause] The KC offense set to go, led as always by the gunslinger, a former MVP in this league. It’s Patrick Mahomes. And simply put, for many, he’s the gold standard for quarterbacks in today’s NFL because of his ability to create, find the open man, use all the different arm angles that he has. He’s a complete package. And boy, his team loves to play around him. Momes now on first down. They’ll go screen here to Hunt. And that’s good for a pick up of 10 yardds. And that’ll leave it with a second and just a few inches left. We’ll see what kind of mindset they have here offensively after giving up the touchdown on the opening drive. And based on our time with them, you know, prior to this game, I feel like they’ve got a good mindset going in. In fact, the discussion we had with the coaching staff was, you know, we may give up some points in this game. So, our offense has to be ready each and every time to either equal or try and get us ahead and try and keep us ahead. This is their chance to respond to that first touchdown given up. And Kelsey’s going to have a Chiefs first down as he’ll get this up past the 45 [Applause] to throw. It’s Momes. That’s into the hands of Worthy and taking it across midfield and inside the 45. The Chiefs have got the passing game rolling a bit. And another first down. [Applause] They’ll run out of the gun with Pacheco and he’ll manage to pick up about four. It’s second down. Well, the end of all that hitting and hollering, it was a four yd run. So the offense is going to go back to help feel pretty good about themselves. Defensively, you have to feel okay because you didn’t let it turn into a bigger run, but the goal shut it down for two yards or less. That’s when you start to feel good about yourselves. Throwing now is Momes. That went behind his man. Incomplete. Not sure what happened there, but he just didn’t get the right read on the coverage that time. Pass wasn’t where it needed to be. And that will send them back to the drawing board. The line to gain is the 33 on third down. From the gun, it’s Momes able to find the open man. That’s complete and he’s going to have another first down as the tackles made at the Jaguars 27 yd line. The drive stays intact with a pickup of 13. Solid opening drive so far, Charles. They’ve moved this football into field goal range, but you know that they want to cap this off with six and not three. Absolutely. As one of the better coaches in the league always tells me on offense, I want to throw body blows all game long and finish it with uppercuts. Well, here are the body blows right now. He’s hoping one uppercut will take care of the end of this drive. On first down, Momes. And that one drops down. Incomplete. Good coverage there. Force the ball free. And it’s second down. [Applause] [Music] 51. 51. They’ll run for the first time with Kareem Hunt and he is met in his tracks behind the line of scrimmage. It’ll go as a loss of a yard. So now they deal with third and 11. And we often talk about defensive end setting the edge sometimes even the outside linebackers. But how about here? This is a quarterback essentially setting the edge and finishing off that play for a loss. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] Ninth play of the drive coming up and certainly not an easy one on third and long. Now Momes now a battle for the football. It’s caught. It’s a touchdown. Maris Brown, 27 yds. And the Chiefs are able to match the opening drive touchdown against him with one of their own. And Charles, the defender was there. He just didn’t get it. Sometimes these plays turn into basketball in a sense with two guys going up for the football. Which guy’s going to box the other away from it and grab it? Yeah, I know you hear it a lot, but it’s just the will to get it, right? Oh, without a doubt. the will as well as some really nice touch on the ball that was thrown and some talent too. Harrison Buter is on for the extra point. It’s up and good. So these teams match touchdowns here in the first quarter and we’re tied 77. A good drive that time as they go nine plays in all and it’s Hollywood Maris Brown who finishes it off with the touchdown. Heat. Heat. [Applause] [Applause] Each team’s had it. Each team has scored. 77 here as the kicks away. And they wisely just take a knee here. And this ball will come out to the 30 yd line. So time to see Jacksonville again on offense for the second time here in this game. The long drive last time out for this offense. Charles, if you remember, they started basically in the shadows of their own end zone, marched it down the field, and a lot of that was through the passing game. And partner, as a former defensive back, I’m having almost a physical reaction watching what’s happening right now, but let’s give credit words, too, because they’ve done an excellent job moving the ball through the air. Secondary getting picked apart, pass by pass. Obviously, they need to make some adjustments there on the back end. Yeah, because offensively, we know that they’re not going to be shy about throwing that football. They’ll break the huddle, come up on second and eight at the 27 yd line. Another toad for ETN and able to stay on his feet past the 30 to about the 33 yd line. [Music] [Applause] [Music] They need two. Here’s third down. Now Lawrence to throw and he’s taken down. A Chief sack. Chris Jones drops him for a fouryd loss there. And that brings up fourth down. You know, on these types of plays, we’re always looking to assess blame. Okay, where did it break down? Sometimes it’s just a great play. [Applause] on fourth down on is Logan Cooked to punt back deep for KC. Xavier Worthy. Good move at the 30. A 40 yd punt. Five yds on the return. And it’s Chiefs football. First and 10. Kansas City taking the field for their second drive. And the momentum just continuing to build and build for them. They had the touchdown, their last drive to tie the game. Now their defense does its job. and Charles. All of a sudden, they’ve got a chance to capture the lead here. And we’re seeing a really nice exhibition of what coaches love to call complimentary football. Offense gets a tie, defense does its job, gets the ball right back, and their teammates now have momentum. What a nice job they’re doing. All doing it together. Had an open man that time and end up putting a little too much heat on it. Don’t you think, partner? Absolutely. Just needed a touch more air under it. Instead, he fired an absolute bullet. So after the incompletion on first, now second and 10. Mahomes now to throw. The tight end Kelsey has it over the middle. They get six. That’ll leave him with third and four. Completion was given up, but that’s why you play zone defense that you can have people around the ball when it’s caught and you don’t give up much run after the catch. And the Jags with five in the secondary now on third down looking to throw is Momes. That is caught and he’ll be taken down but not before he gets into enemy territory. Second catch for him today and it’ll wind up a first down. These two teams all tied after one. The Chiefs with the football as we start the second quarter. As they’ve got it with a first and 10. And again, it’s Momes. That’ll be caught by Rice. And this will leave him a yard short. Nice pickup of nine yardds on first down. Second and a yard at the 39 yd line. Ball on the 39. Here’s second down and one. Mahomes going to hand it off to Hunt and he works it to the 30 yd line here. Right at the 30. Nine yds the pick up there and it’s a first down. Offensive linemen are famous for doing their job no matter who’s carrying the ball. But when they have the confidence that the person carrying it can break off big time runs, that makes them block just a little bit harder. [Applause] So, first and 10 now from the 30. Mahomes going to throw. He’s into space past the 25 and he takes it all the way down to the 22. [Applause] Always laugh when people say, “What’s the toughest route to defend?” And I’m like, “Any of them.” especially if it’s a good receiver, that makes things very difficult. But when you’re running a drag route, something short, shallow, going through defenders, using guys almost as as screens in order to get open, that makes things tough for guys trying to get to the football. So from the 22, here’s second and two. They go play action now. Momes. His throw caught right around the six and able to get him down, but he does reach the five. First time they’ve hooked up here. Good for 17 and a first down. He certainly done a nice job spreading the field on this drive. And here he finds his big tight end for good yardage. And that’s what you have to do. Keep defenses guessing about where you’re going to go with the football. [Applause] Here’s Momes to throw. This is caught and in for the Chiefs touchdown. Momes hitting his favorite target, Travis Kelce on the touchdown pass. And the Chiefs have taken the lead. There was no going through the progressions on that touchdown pass. Yeah. Nor was it necessary. His receiver won that route early, presented himself. No reason to wait. Go ahead and put it on him and score a touchdown. Buter on for the pat [Applause] and he’s got it. It’s now a 14-7 ball game. So that drive goes eight plays and it culminates in a Travis Kelce touchdown. [Applause] [Applause] Now after the touchdown, here’s Buter on to kick it away and a nice return sets him up pretty good here right at the 30 yd line. [Applause] Out comes the Jacksonville offense as they get set to take over here. That seven nothing lead of theirs shortlived as they’ve now given up two straight touchdowns to fall behind by seven. Yeah, but no cause for discouragement here. Yeah, they’ve fallen behind, but haven’t they proven that they can go down and score? So, what was the formula that got them down there the first time? Get back to something close to that and maybe they get this game tied up. give him 13 yards on the opening play of the drive and also give him a first down. [Applause] [Applause] a give to ETN running right. He’ll work his way up the middle for a gain of about four. Second down. Well, you don’t turn your nose up at a gain of four, do you? They’ll take that on first down. Playbook’s got to be pretty well open on second and six. [Applause] From the 46 yd line. A second down and six. Here’s Lawrence to throw. That’s complete to the rookie from Colorado and he’ll be brought down with a first down as the tackles made at the Chief’s 38 yd line. A new set of downs after a strong pick up of 16 yds. What I love about watching the passing game nowadays is that the one-dimensional receiver is really starting to leave the game. You’ve got to be able to do it all. Of course, you got to run fast. Of course, you got to catch the ball. But route running savvy and toughness, there’s a premium for all of that. Now, so now first and 10 in Chief’s territory at the 38. [Applause] Straight ahead ETN. Oh, he shifts past him and brought down, but not before they’re inside the 25. Another nice gain. 13 yds that time and another first down. Anytime you hear the term an explosive run, most teams I know define that as any run over 10 yards and they got that and more. How about a lot of credit for the big guys up front. That offensive line firing out, creating plenty of space and a big run ensued. [Music] [Applause] It completes it to Hunter. Great move, but still wrangled before reaching the 20. Second y second down and six now. Looking to throw Lawrence. He throws and he hits the slant route to Thomas. What a methodical drive this is turning out to be. That time nine yds and the sticks move again. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] Hey from down at the 12. It’s first and 10. [Applause] Back to the ground with ETN down to the six yd line on a pick up of six as he gets halfway to the goal line. [Applause] [Applause] Second and four. They can still get a first down without scoring. Now Thomas will come in motion right and they’re going to give it to him on the Jet sweep. A five yd gain. And now they’re set up first and goal. Well, we’ve seen running backs in today’s NFL get involved in the passing game. Maybe it’s about time more receivers like that get involved in the running game. And that is something we are seeing more and more in this league. No question about it. That wasn’t the biggest of gains, but was enough to get them a first down. And it continues to test the defense. They have to think on every play about who might end up with the ball. Another [Applause] [Music] [Applause] shot from the one on second and goal. [Applause] Bigsby will score. Touchdown Jacksonville. So they brought the extra bulk in down on the oneyd line and they’re able to push this one across. Yeah, I can just see your face right now because I know we’re mind meldding on this one. Coach Madden would love this power football. Hat on a hat. Chest to chest driving forward. Touchdown. extra point forthcoming. [Applause] And we’ve got a good one brewing. We’re all knotted up at 14. A 10play drive that time and it ends with a one-yd touchdown run. Heat. Heat. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] This one tied at 14 now as he sends this one away. That’s going to be taken at the goal line and he’ll return it and they’ll get him down inside the 30 at the 27. [Applause] Now the Chiefs offense, they get ready to head on the field. So both of these teams, Charles, coming off touchdowns now, but this offense, they just had to stand on the sideline, watch their opponent author a really impressive drive to reach the end zone. Yeah. And I think you’re not telling yourself the truth if you don’t think there’s some oneupsmanship going on right now because they just had their touchdown answered by a drive of doubledigit plays that also found the end zone. Now they want to do something even more impressive to answer that one. [Applause] Got it here at the 29 on second and eight. Now Mahomes gives to Hunt. Four yardds on the pick up there as it’ll leave him with a third and about four more for a first. [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Now here’s Momes working in the middle of the field and he’s got a man complete and he will have a Chief’s first down as they’re able to get the third down conversion. Would it be safe to say that as precise as routes are supposed to be run in the NFL, maybe they’re not quite as precise in college ball? That’s accurate. Yeah. And I think we saw a college route in the NFL there. Just find the soft spot, find the dead zone, and find the first down. And that’s what he just did. I’m here. I’m here. I’m They fake the give. Now Momes. This is caught. It’s Brown and he gets this one inside the 15 just a yard or two shy of the 10. A big pick up of 38. 38 yd. First down, Chief. [Applause] Second quarter, two minutes to go. Tie ball game. [Applause] Now a first and 10 at the 11. working from the gun. Momes and it’s caught and in for the Chiefs touchdown. Momes hitting his favorite target, Travis Kelce on the touchdown pass and the Chiefs have moved out in front. So, Charles, that’s three touchdowns on three drives and it’s just been an offensive barrage so far. Great word, partner using barrage right there. I’m going to add another word if you don’t mind. How about perfection? No surprise that they’re leading right now. Absolute dominance throughout this ball game and no signs of slowing down. But now to add the extra point. It’s up and good. And that’ll make the score 2114. So that drive spanned five plays and it culminates in a Travis Kelce touchdown. [Applause] Now after the touchdown, here’s Buter on to kick it away. And they will wrangle him down a couple yards shy of the 30. [Applause] [Music] And out now comes Jacksonville as they get ready to go. And that last drive was very, very balanced, pretty methodical. You think they go that route again? I’m always of the school that until they stop me from doing something, I’m going to continue. And I think that that’s exactly what they’ll look to do. But the beauty is the balance that they’ve created sets up opportunities for big plays. Looks like a run turn into a play action and throw one deep. Nice way to start the drive. A gain of 12 and a first down. Any questions of how they’d approach this drive were answered right there. They come out throwing and they get a nice pickup here toward the end of the first half. First down now, but that clock rolling. Lawrence. This will be caught once again by Brown. And they get to him after a gain of six to the 46. [Applause] [Music] Now the Jags are moving quickly in the hurry up from the shotgun. Lawrence flush to his right now and he’s going to get this down to the 35 yd line. The Jaguars going to go ahead and use their first timeout as they get the stoppage with a little over 50 seconds to go in the first half. [Applause] 59. Now Lawrence on first down. He’ll get that underneath ETN. Now the Jags will use the second of their timeouts as the clock’s going to stop with 47 seconds to go in half number one. [Music] [Applause] [Music] Second down and four. [Applause] Looking to throw Lawrence. And that is caught. Touchdown Jacksonville. Dei Brown 29 yds and the Jaguars are an extra point away from tying the ball game here in the final minute of the first half. These two teams in this first half, it’s been fun. Back and forth, back and forth. Well, it’s not fun for the defensive coordinators, but offensive coordinators are enjoying it. Yeah, they’re having streaks here, aren’t they? being able to put scores together and and really bunch them up and we have a tight game here. You know, we often talk about having the right shoes for the right turf. Today is track shoes cuz that’s what we’ve seen with these offenses. Yeah, it’s been an absolute track meet so far and fun to watch. Extra point right down the middle and that is going to tie our game as we approach halftime. Five plays there on that drive. And it’s DeAndi Brown who finishes things off with a touchdown reception. [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Applause] a couple of teams locked into a good one here. 21 all to score as the kicks away and no thought of bringing this one out. He’ll go down to a knee and they’ll begin the drive at the 30. The Chiefs going to go back on offense here late in this first half and they’ve got a little over 40 seconds to work with if they want to try to put something together. [Applause] incomplete. Well, after watching him ring the bell that many times and put the ball in the end zone, throwing it, you had to figure they had to bring some type of pressure. They had to change things up on defense and able to get to him, put him on the ground. So, maybe just something to throw him off a little bit. Yeah, that had to feel a lot better for the defensive guys. They’ve been getting carved up in this one. To finally knock him on the ground and force an incompletion, that’s got to be a sigh of relief. Momes throw here complete to Kelsey. The Chiefs now going to use the first of their timeouts as the clock will stop with 34 seconds to go before halftime. [Music] [Applause] Third and two. They’ll look to throw over the middle complete. That’s Hunt and he will have a Chief’s first down as they get five there on third and two now. Another timeout called for by the offense. So that means they’re down to one remaining here as we head toward halftime. So, here’s a first and 10 at the 38. They’ll stick with the passing game as he looks to throw. He’s going to loft one deep left side here and it’ll be incomplete. Good job staying with him defensively and it’ll bring up second down. This secondary has been roasted in this first half and they get a measure of revenge there. Nice play on the deep ball. Yeah, they’re going to need a few more plays like that in order to get their confidence fully back, but that’s one step in the proper direction. Mahomes again here on second and 10. He’s going deep for Brown. Now a battle for the football. It’s caught. It’s a touchdown. Hollywood Maris Brown as the first half is winding down and the Chiefs have taken the lead here in the final stages of this first half. Well, if the plan is to come in here and go toe-to-toe with these guys, it certainly does not hurt if you hit them with a big shot along the way, too. That’s got to give them some confidence. And the other thing right now, it quiets this crowd, at least for the time being. Yeah, that is what is called the intended unintended consequence of their actions. But on for the PAT and it’s good. That makes it a 28-21 game. That time 75 yd drive. Five plays and it’s Hollywood Maris Brown who finishes it off with the touchdown. [Applause] So, not much time to speak of remaining in this first half as the kicks away. Oh, a dangerous return man showing it here. And a good return. Able to get out across the 35 to the 36. Jaguars come to the line to start their next drive. Throwing now. Lawrence on first down. And that’ll be incomplete with just 6 seconds left on the clock. That was well defended. They clamped down on every available receiver. Just got to give the win to the defense on that snap. Here’s second and 10. [Applause] Back to throw Lawrence. His throw incomplete. So, we’ve reached halftime in a wild first half. We’ll take a minute to catch our breath as we send you a couple hours south of here to Orlando. Well, that’s where we check in with a coach and our EA Sports halftime report. All right, Brandon, thanks very much. Welcome everyone to our brand new studios here in downtown Orlando and the EA Sports Halftime Report. Back and forth we went in that first half. This has certainly been an entertaining one to watch thus far. So, let’s get right back out to it as we’ll rejoin our commentators, Brandon Goden and Charles Davis. All right, coach. Thanks. Yeah, both teams likely to make some changes in what’s been a closely fought battle to this point. [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] It’s been a shootout so far. We’ll see which defense can make the adjustments as we get back underway in the second half. And he brings us out past the 20 to the 24. [Applause] Here comes Mr. Hollywood. Maris Brown leading out this offense. He’s having a day here in quarter number three. Over a 100 yards, couple touchdowns. Every receivers’s hope for when they head into that game in the National Football League. And his team is loving what he’s giving them. Of course, the yardage is terrific, but I think it’s what you mentioned, the two touchdowns. That’s the big one because he’s paying off his results downfield. Yeah. And still more time here. Third quarter. We’ll see what else he has in store for us. A nice little screen. They get six on first down. And that doesn’t have to gain big yardage to be an impactful play because if you can get those pass rushers secondguessing themselves that they might get hit with a screen, maybe you can wind up slowing them down just a step. And if you do that, that’s a win for that play. And the ball on the 30 here. Second and four. Shotgun snap to Momes. Short throw hauled in by Kelsey. And down he goes, but he takes it up to the 40. He’s been big two touchdowns earlier. Now he’s got a first down here. And that’s a more than acceptable read right there because it’s zone coverage. So, timing is everything. This time he waits for his man to come open, puts it right on him, and they pick up a first down. [Applause] yellow. On first and 10, here’s Momes. And incomplete. A drop there in the middle third of the field. That’ll bring up second down. Looked like they had an opportunity for a big play across the middle, but he didn’t have the concentration, the focus necessary and dropped it before he could haul it in. after the incomplete pass here now is second and 10. Back to throw again. This ball tipped and it’s going to be incomplete. Fortunate maybe to get that back. It’s third down. I like the call. It looked like the right time to dial up a running back screen, but this one got disrupted right from the start and ends up falling incomplete. Now they face a third and 10 after back-to- back incompletions. Again, they’ll throw with Momes. He’s got his target. That’s complete and he’s going to have another first down as the tackles made at the Jaguars 43. A nice pick up of 17 yds. We always hear about the connections some quarterbacks have with certain receivers. I think this guy has a connection with just about everyone. Didn’t mind throwing it in there against double coverage. To him shows some confidence. Supreme confident. Big time confidence that he would make the play for him. And he did. So in Jacksonville territory now. Here’s a first and 10 at the 43. Play action. Now it’s Momes. That ball caught. It’s Rice and he’ll get this one down near the 20 yd line just shy of the 20. A good pick up there of 22. A great job pulling that one in from a guy as we know who can really blaze. He’s got a lot of speed and that speed can work for him so many different ways. Sometimes he just takes off and goes and just runs past people. Sometimes you get people to back off so far that you can catch everything underneath. But still, at some point in the game, you probably have to make some contested catches, right? Sometimes you have to go up and beat a defender for the football. He has that in his arsenal as well. Showed it right there. Mahomes now on first down. Throw left side completion to Rice and he’ll go out of bounds in the red zone just inside the 20. Short completion just four yds and that’ll make it second down. down. Second and six. Now it’s Momes again. And a quick throw here that’s complete. And the Chiefs are going to be set up with a first and goal here. There’s the tackle made at the nine. First at the yd line. They’ll look to throw again. That is caught by Rice for a Chiefs touchdown. A nineyd touchdown there and the Chiefs take the opening kickoff of the third quarter and drive right down the field to extend their lead. That seemed pretty ideal there for the offense, Charles. You take a little bit of time off the clock here in the third quarter, decent length drive, and you pad your lead as well at the end of it. And what it does is let you feel like you’re in control of this game even more so than a two touchdown lead, right? Because you have taken that time off as you noted, which means they couldn’t get you off the field. You ran your playbook the way you wanted to and you gave your defense some rest. What a big time drive in that situation. Extra point by Buter is on target and the lead now up to 14. So that drive consumes nine plays all told and it’s capped off with a Kansas City touchdown. [Applause] [Applause] Harrison now after the touchdown. Here’s Buter on to kick it away and the returner down to a knee and this will come out to the 30 yd line. Here comes the Jags offense now. Time for their first possession of half number two. Well, the opposition laid down the challenge, an opening drive touchdown here to start the second half. And Charles, now you feel like this group needs to get an answer because this all of a sudden is a two-score game. Yeah, you’re right about that. What was a small manageable spread to overcome, a little bit more daunting now. I think you’re exactly right. Pressure is on because you don’t want them getting the ball back with a chance to really extend this lead out. A gain of 11 to kick off the drive and it’s a quick first down. And this is what they’re going to need more of. It’s the third quarter. You’re trailing. You’ve got to come out with a renewed sense of purpose. And that’s a nice way to kick off the drive with good yardage and a first down. On first down, Lawrence. And the throw left sideline here is caught, but they’ll rule it incomplete. Couldn’t keep his feet in. Second down. I think he could have scanned downfield forever, but there wasn’t anything available. Ends up throwing an incompletion and I think he’ll take that. So now second and 10 after the incompletion on first down. Let’s get this. Now Lawrence over the middle open is Thomas and they bring him to the ground just shy of midfield. Seven catches for him now in this last one, a first down. That’s a great y9 [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] now. Lawrence, a short throw there to Strange. And that play will go nowhere. Losing yardage back near midfield at the 49. He was unable to shake free there. They’ll cover him for a loss of a yard. And we constantly talk about people being on the same page. In this situation, the two of them saw the play with the same eyes. They understood where the open spaces were going to be and they found a way to get there to pick up a new set of downs. 24 tomato again. And it’s Lawrence and this one caught by Hunter over the middle and he’ll be brought down with a first down as the tackles made at the Chiefs 31 yd line. A gain there of 21 yds. [Applause] [Music] So now first and 10 in Chief’s territory down at the 31. Lawrence will throw. Got a man. It’s Brown. And they’ll work it inside the 15 yd line before it’s all said and done. Another big hitter there. This one good for 18. Oh, that was a pretty route right there because it’s all about finding a window on a route like that. He lined up on his left, ran the deep in route over the middle, and the ball was right where it needed to be. Really good trust between quarterback and receiver. Really good completion [Applause] from the 13. Now they work on first and 10. Here’s Lawrence. That’s complete right around the eight. And he’s going to get a solid gate of nine before being brought down. Second and right at a yard [Music] from the four. This is second down and one. [Applause] throwing again here. It’s Lawrence. Steps away to his left and he will get this into the end zone for the Jaguar touchdown. Trevor Lawrence taking it in from four yds out. And the Jags have cut it back within a score. Hey, you’re down on the scoreboard, but now your offense is in close and this is where as a quarterback you say, I’ve got to make a play here. Doesn’t m Whether it’s a pinpoint throw or a scramble like this one, he takes matters into his own hands and delivers a touchdown run. [Music] Extra point attempt here still to come and that’ll cut the lead down now to a touchdown. So that drive in total eight plays and it was capped off by Trevor Lawrence taking it in himself. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] after the touchdown. Cook now to kick this one away. And he’s up across the 25 and down at the 28. [Music] And out come the Chiefs now. still enjoying the lead here in the third quarter despite their defense giving up that last touchdown. Now they’ll see if they can get the equalizer here on this drive. Mahomes will lead the Chiefs up first and 10 at their own 28 yd line. They’ll start the drive here with Pacheco and they’re going to stop him right at the line of scrimmage. Just no cut back lane to be found whatsoever. Second and 10. The free safety roaming all the way up to the line of scrimmage to make that stop. How about his ability to trust his eyes and figure out it was not a pass play and go fast towards the line of scrimmage in order to make that tackle. They’ll run with Hunt on second down. He’ll be hit down at the 33. Five yds on the play. The way things have gone in this one, the running game’s been something of an afterthought. And that’s not been too bad for them, has it? Yeah, the offensive returns have been good, but I guess we figured he and the ground game would be a bit more involved. Here is third and five. Throwing now is Momes. And the Jags get to him as down he goes. Blocked down by Trayvon Walker on the pass rush. Boy, every time I see speed like that off the edge, Charles, I just don’t know how these offensive linemen do it. I would think that they would get called for holding every play. And maybe they should have been called for holding on that one. Yeah, maybe not just holding, but sometimes you end up setting back in the offensive backfield a little bit farther to try and help you with the edge. That’s a penalty as well. Sometimes you overset, they’ll come inside of you. That’s what speed does. It disrupts an offense. And right now, you’ve got to pay attention to this edge rusher on every single down. On fourth down, the punt team is on as this is sent away. fielded at the 20. 51 yds on the punt there and the Jaguars go on offense. First down and 10. Out comes the Jacksonville offense as they get set to take over here. We have seen a lot of points here in this quarter for us up here in the booth. It’s been fun to watch. The defensive coordinators probably scratching their heads. Yeah, they’re going a little bit crazy right now, but let’s face it, all of our friends who play fantasy, they’re enjoying the heck out of this show cuz most of them are creating and getting a bunch of points. Yeah, points certainly not at a premium here. Give them three on first down. It’ll set up a second and seven. Typically, we think it’s the strong safeties that are bitter tacklers, especially closer to the line of scrimmage amidst traffic. But in this case, how about the free safety coming up and making the big time play? Ball on the 30 now. Here’s a second and seven. Now Lawrence to throw looking left side and he’s got a man. That’s Hunter and he’ll be taken down but not before they work it across midfield. That one a gain of 20 and a first down. [Music] [Applause] [Music] Let’s go. 89 looking to throw Lawrence. A short throw there to Strange and a six-yd gain gets him right around the 43. Now hang on here a second. Looks like a Jaguar in some obvious discomfort from that last play. The medical staff will attend to him and we will step aside. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] line of scrimmage. The 43 on second and four. [Applause] Back to throw. Lawrence. He finds his man complete. It’s Hunter and he’ll be brought down with a first down as the tackles made at the Chiefs 30. They give him 13 yds there on the play and a fresh set of downs. Card sold the go route really well. Thought he was going deep and curled it back inside for a nice completion. DBs love when they pump the brakes, don’t they? Yeah, that’s really that’s really a whole lot of fun. And it’s almost like you said, listen, if you’re going to sell the go, just go and let’s see who’s faster. And Lawrence now, he has this complete to Strange, the tight end, and he’ll be out of bounds just inside the 25 yd line. It’ll go down as a gain of six. And that will bring up second down. second almost and they’re not going to get to the line to run another play. So we will switch ends as the third quarter has come to a close. This is the National Football League on EA Sports here now. Second and four. Here we go. Watch the pass. Watch the pass. From the gun, it’s Lawrence. This ball caught by Strange. It’s so close. He gets it to the one. Out of bounds right there. Backto back receptions for him. And it’s another first down. Like the design that we’re seeing right there. This is what they need. Down by a touchdown here in the fourth. They just need to keep working their way downfield. And when they see openings, take their shots. [Music] [Applause] A looming decision to make on the conversion down seven. But first things first, they need to score as they come up on first and goal. Now a handoff to Biggsby and he’ll take this into the end zone. Touchdown Jacksonville. Take Bigsby. his second touchdown of the afternoon and the Jaguars are an extra point away from tying this game here in the fourth. But we are set up for a fantastic finish now. A fourth quarter touchdown here. We’re an extra point away from a tie football game. And I know they’re thinking about possibly going for two, but I’d go ahead and kick this one and just get it back to level. The call is to go for one and kick the extra point and we are tied here in the fourth quarter. So this drive spans seven plays and it ends with a one-yd touchdown run. [Applause] [Music] and this one setting up for a great finish. All tied in the fourth as the kicks away and he’ll wisely just take a knee here and this ball will come out to the 30 yd line. KC’s offense ready to take over. Well, they just gave up the score to tie it. That’s the bad news. The good news, plenty of time in this fourth quarter to try to grab that lead back. Mahomes will lead the Chiefs up first and 10 at their own 25 yd line. Off the play fake, he’ll look to throw. They’ll wind up losing a full 10 yds on the play and it’ll be a second and long. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Mahomes going to throw. This will be caught by Brown. A good pickup there. 13 yds as they get closer for third down. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] The Chiefs on third down. They’ve been excellent. Six for seven. This is third and seven. Looking to throw is Momes. That’ll be caught by Rice and he will have a Chief’s first down as they’re able to get the third down conversion. Did you see that route in the way that I did? I thought he was trying to get Yeah, that wasn’t the first option. No, not He came off of that guy, the deep guy, and came underneath on the drag. Completed it very well. [Applause] yellow. So, here’s a first and 10 at the 38 to throw. It’s Momes now. A quick throw there, but it’s going to be incomplete. Yeah, offenses always try to be smart about when they’re trying to dial up a screen to the running back because they understand you can only go to the well so many times in a game without the defense starting to anticipate the call. Second and 10. Now Momes got his man complete over the middle. It’s Hunt and able to break one tackle but then quickly brought down but a nice little gain. Nine yardds not quite enough and they’ll be left now with third and one. It’s funny throughout the time that we’ve been together when we talk with running backs about the ability to catch the ball, their eyes light up when they talk about open field and having one-on-one matchups, don’t they? Yeah, they do. And that’s the reason why what we just saw shedding those tackles. And that’s what they’re used to doing. It is. And it starts at the beginning of the play. One-on-one match up with someone trying to cover them. But they also like those one-on- ones downfield after the catch when they’re running with the ball. They think they’re going to win those, too. Got what they needed there. The drive continues with a 9 yd pickup. Brandon, this can be so demoralizing for a defense. They’ve had two opportunities to get off the field. They haven’t gotten it done. So now your coordinator, he’s going to call every blitz that he has, any type of exotic, something that they haven’t seen before. And he’s also telling the defensive lineman, don’t worry about holding people up. Just get in gaps and try and make a big play. And not only not getting off the field on two opportunities. Clock continuing to run. So in Jacksonville territory now. Here’s a first and 10 at the 44 yd line. Mahomes now to throw. Jaguar pressure and a Jaguar sack. That is Joshua Hines Allen working his way in for the sack. And that sack, Charles, just looked like a case where a speedy defensive end is a little bit quicker than the offensive tackle. Yeah, it makes it difficult for a tackle to determine what exactly to do. Do you do the kick slide and try and get back in the pocket and meet him there? Do you meet him on the line of scrimmage where they call a quick set? In any event, right now, he’s having his troubles. [Applause] So after a rare misstep on this drive, they’ll try to make amends on second and 15. Here’s Momes to throw over the middle here to Brown and he’s going to have another first down as the tackles made at the Jaguars 30. That’ll put him up over 160 yds receiving now for the game. They can’t seem to stop it. And this has been a nice answer to the touchdown drive against them a few minutes ago because they’ve come out and reestablished the tempo. A nice throw there and they’re putting together a very strong drive as a response. So first and 10 now from the 30. Motion man right is Rice. He’s going to handle it on the touch pass. No, a nifty juke there. Not much fun for a guy trying to tackle it. And they’ll get him down after a pick up of eight. Second and two. [Applause] from the 22. Now here’s second and a couple out of the gun. They run it with Hunt and he’ll get it down this time to the 17. Four yds the pickup. First down. This has been an up and down back and forth type of a game, hasn’t it? Maybe this long drive take a little bit of the wind out of their sales. Kind of settle things down a little bit. So from the 17 now, here’s a first and 10. Running left to give to Bachco and he is going to lose yardage here. Met and stopped behind the line there by Ventrell Miller. That was offkilter offense up front. Everyone was just kind of out of sync. Well, from my perspective, that certainly looked like the defense just destroyed that play. Absolutely just took it over. All right, so I’m going to revamp what I said. The defense was in sync. How about that? Oh, I like that one. [Music] [Applause] A rare misstep on that last play cuz the drive has been strong, but now it’s second and 12. This is Hunt on the draw play. and able to get him down, but he does reach the five. Sets him up nicely. First and goal. It was a pickup of 14. This is a very impressive drive, especially when you consider where they started from to now be set up first and goal. Yeah, some nice running right there. That’s what got them the first down. But at this point, I suggest open up your playbook. You can call just about what you want. A field goal could get them the lead, but it might not be enough here as they come up on first and goal. Now here’s Momes. And he will take it on in for a Chiefs touchdown. Patrick Mahomes a five yd touchdown run and the Chiefs answer back with a touchdown of their own to break our tie and take the lead here in the fourth. So Charles, this game feels like it has been punch counter punch all throughout and that touchdown breaks our tie here in the fourth quarter. You’re making me want to get back in the gym and start training again. You’re talking about those punches and counter punches. I also think this is where you and I start thinking to ourselves, who’s going to make the play to change that, right? Who’s going to get out of this little cycle that they’re in right now and make a play and give their team a firm advantage. Extra point by Buter is on target and they will take a seven-point lead. So that one a 13play drive in total and it was all capped by Patrick Mahomes using his legs to get in the end zone. [Applause] Now after the touchdown, here’s Bucker on to kick it away. And out a little across the 25 to the 27. [Applause] And out now comes Jacksonville as they get ready to go. And now after the touchdown a moment ago, they work from behind in a seven-point game in this fourth quarter. Plenty of time on the clock. Lawrence bringing the Jaguars up. First and 10 at their own 27. Meanwhile, Lawrence’s throw complete there to Thomas. They’ll be tackled shy of the 35. Shifty footwork gets him a little extra on the play. second [Applause] [Music] [Applause] from the 34 yd line. Here’s second and three [Applause] looking to throw. Lawrence got his man. It’s the tight end Strange with it and he’ll be taken down but not before he works it past the 50. Seven catches for him now and this last one a first down. But when you hit him on the move like that, he’s able to get into open field with a full head of steam. Boy, it’s going to be tough to get him down. Yeah, there was a big window. They’re lucky they did get him down. [Applause] [Music] We have 23 [Applause] on first and 10. It’s Lawrence. A short throw there to Strange and they’ll get him down as he’s inside the 40. Tim Moore there and another first down. I like how they work the tight end on a nice little under route there. And if you’re going to give him that much space, he’s not going to catch the football. He’s going to run away from you a little bit. And that’s exactly what he just did there, picking up extra yardage. All three timeouts plus the twominute warning. Here’s first and 10. Here’s Lawrence to throw. He gets it to Thomas and he’s taken down inside the 30. [Applause] Fourth quarter down to the final two minutes and we’ve got a one-sore game. So, it’s Jaguar football here as we welcome you back. They come up on a first and 10. Desperately needing a score here on what could be their final drive. Here’s first and 10. Lawrence going to throw again. He finds his man complete. That’s Brown and inside the 20 before he’s brought down. And passing yardage wise now up over 350 in this game. Pretty nice performance. Definitely that which usually means you’re putting a lot of pressure on guys trying to cover. If you’re a defensive back and they put over 350 yards on you, you’ve had a long day. The key to everything if you’re doing it without throwing interceptions or turning the ball. Oh, and that’s going to sabotage their comeback plans. It is intercepted. And the Chiefs have just about sewn up this football game. [Music] And now this offense comes back out onto the field. They have the lead. Still a onep possession game, but the defense got to stop. They’ve got the football now. Just salted away. Right. Exactly. That’s all the defense is counting on from their offense. They did their job in a big way. You know, they’re over on the sidelines now starting to take their tape off and hey, we’ve done this thing. The offense has to put it away and that means ball security. Absolutely. Stranger things have happened. The Jaguars going to go ahead and use their first timeout as they’ll head to the sideline and talk over what to do next. Not totally home free yet, but it’s looking good as they come up first and 10. Pacheco gets it up the gun. This will be stopped about two yds shy of the marker. Eight yd gain. Second and two. Now a timeout called for by the defense as they’ll talk things over prior to this upcoming second down play. Yellow again. It’s Pacheco and he will have a Chief’s first down and that’s the one that should seal the victory. Victory in the cards now for the Chiefs as they take a knee here. [Applause] 51 51 Momes down to a knee and that should just about right a finish to this one. Yeah, it’s fun to kneel down in front of your home crowd. But when you go on the road, that band of brothers attitude, right? Just us against the world and get it done. How happy are they? And I remember a coach at a previous stop telling me, “You get a win on the road, doesn’t matter the opponent, get out of there like you stole something.” And they they did in this one. [Applause] Charles, normally when you see a group score this many points, it’s a complete blowout. But instead, they needed every single one of those in this close, high-scoring affair. And Brandon, I’m still on the edge of my seat after that one because when you have that much scoring and it still comes down to one possession game at the end, that’s not something we see very often. In this case, these offenses, they brought it. The defenses, they’re going to need some work going forward. [Applause] So, that’ll do it for us, for my partner Charles Davis, and all the hardworking men and women on our crew. I’m Brandon Gordon. You’ve been watching the NFL right here on EA Sports. With that, we sign off from Jacksonville. [Applause]
