#cincinnatireds Have a Few Positives to Glean from First Wild Card Loss to #losangelesdodgers

The Cincinnati Red’s first wildcard game and first playoff game really in a long time was absolutely the opposite of what we hoped for, but I feel like the last couple of innings were important for the Red’s next two days, and yes, I said two days, because I think that the last couple of innings where they were able to score some runs and close the deficit just a little bit, showed them that, hey, this is baseball. This team is really led by its young core, a core that has never been to the playoffs. And so this was their first experience. And for the first five innings, the lights were far too bright for them. Blake Snell completely dominated them. Tay Oscar Hernandez show Otani hit all of the home runs. and they were down a lot quickly, but they fought back and they had good at bats and they forced that Dodgers bullpen to look silly. There’s something about this and and and I know that the team that wins game one of the wildard round like the Dodgers just did never loses, at least since the advent of the three-game wild card series in 2022. But these Reds can’t be killed. Just ask Terry Francona. I feel like there’s something to this and I feel like at very if nothing else they’re going to go to three games, but I think the Reds still have a chance to win this series. We’re going to be talking all about it on the next Lockdown Reds podcast. So I hope you join me.

  1. The Reds got flat out embarrassed. You have to be ready to play from the start.

The starting pitching can lead us to the playoffs. The hitting definitely needs to improve. You can’t be that weak offensively and expect to turn the corner and bring the fans to the games.

You need to spend some money and buy some offensive firepower. We need at least 3 players that know how to hit 25-30 homeruns.

Hopefully the Front Office realizes this too.

  2. I don't understand how Jeff can not just be realistic. This series was over before it started. It is the curse of being a cincinnati sports fan. I know because I have been one most of my life. We always find a way to embarrass ourselves on national TV and having any hope is foolish and will just lead to more misery and disappointment. I wish I could be a fan of teams that are not from cincinnati, but unfortunately, I am cursed to root for the Bengals and the Reds, even to my bitter demise

  3. I’ll admit I was wrong about the Reds. I’ve said since the All Star break that they would finish 3 games out of the playoffs. But I didn’t think the Mets would historically implode and give our guys a chance.
Do they deserve to be a playoff team? Doesn’t matter. All you have to do is get in then it’s a new season.
The Reds rely on pitching and contact baseball to win. When the pitching falters there is no chance. Of all the wildcard games yesterday, Cincinnati had the worse pitching of all the teams. There is still a chance.
But the city of Cincinnati got embarrassed 2 nights in a row on national tv between the Bengals and the Reds.

  4. Men vs boys. Our best pitcher couldn’t get past the third inning. But now management will use “playoff appearance” as the means to protect the status quo moving forward.

  5. Hunter needs to be better but I think he’ll learn from this, I’m glad we scored some runs this time around, it’s important for the young team to get playoff experience like this. And of course it’s not over yet, you never know.

  6. If nothing else , the Reds proved they can be highly effective against Dodgers pitching! They had a chance to be right back in it towards the end!! And they need to use the EXCELLENT Sal Stewart EFFECTIVELY

  7. Jeff like everyone is saying we blew it but yes we fought back and I get it it's ⚾ but we better bring our a++++ game tonight if not lights out but I'm staying positive nervous all of it but let's go Cincinnati prove everyone wrong
