MLB Network | “Dodgers in 5” – Derek Jeter BOLD PREDICTIONS Dodgers vs. Phillies in Game 2 NLDS
After beating the Phillies in game one last night, the Dodgers undefeated in this postseason. And in part, they’ve got Tay Oscar Hernandez to thank. Three homers, a 357 batting average, second most ever in terms of homers through three games in a single season. Welcome back inside. Phillies in an 01 hole. Hey, the Phillies have never won a postseason series after dropping a game one, 0 and8 in those series. What’s your level of concern for the Philadelphia Phillies? Very high, Matt. And not all losses are created equal. I mean, it was a Philly party for the first six innings. You you got to Otani a little bit. Uh fans are going crazy and your pitcher throwing well and all of a sudden Tiasco Hernandez goes Manny Ramirez and snatches it back. And I’m even more concerned cuz today they have Snell who they don’t farewell against. I tell you what, when you playing against a monster team like the Dodgers, you cannot, especially playing at home, you cannot let them walk away with a win like they did last night. I mean, they got them all the way into the sixth inning and then they bounced back. Teoskar hit that bomb. You know that you got into Otani early pitching and offensively. You can let just walk away with that win because now you have to face Snell who is a tough pitcher especially against lefty what you got in your offense as the best offensively players. So now you’re facing a tough situation. Look, the postseason is all about narratives. We all know that. And the narrative with the Philadelphia Phillies is that they have great regular seasons and they come up short in the postseason. They were in the World Series in 22. They lost in the series. Then they lost in the NLCS in 23. Last year they lost in the division series. And here they are again in a division series. Even though their win total has gone up every every regular season. So they have an opportunity to change the narrative this year. I think they can do it, but they must win tonight. They’re up against a Dodger team that is is talentwise the best in baseball. I think the day off today is going to serve them well, guys. Uh the other part is this is a series of superstars. Superstars galore. There’s an embarrassment of challenges. And a lot of people think whoever wins this could be the winner of the World Series, but you need the big stars to step up. Schwarber, Harper, Riom, they need big big games. And this is their last harrah. Yeah, this is the last this the last goound for this. A lot of free agents coming up. Yeah. Uh the Dodgers are on the same kind of old pal Steven Nelson on the call on Dodgers radio with a three nothing lead and Christopher Sanchez on the mound. Seemed like an open and shut case, but the Dodgers do it again. You see the side by side between the two lefties as they get ready for tomorrow. And Rolley, we saw Blake Snell dominate game one against the Reds. Yeah, he absolutely did. And look, Blake Snell, he’s been really good in his playoff career. That’s for sure. This is a little bit of a different lineup. He is on the road as well in Philly. So, it’s going to be interesting to see if Philadelphia can wait him out. Be patient because, you know, he generates so much chase outside the strike zone. We thought it might be Ranger Suarez for game two for Rob Thompson, but he’s going with Lousardo after a statfilled 32 start season in year one in Philadelphia. In the grand scheme of things, there’s been a lot of series this year that uh you know, we ended up winning after losing game one that we just bounced back and won two in a row. So obviously you want to get a win. Obviously at home it’s important. I wouldn’t say there’s added pressure or anything. It’s just, you know, go out and play the game that we know how to play. We’ve been the best team in baseball at home. So there’s a reason for that. I feel like I’ve always had like a a knack for just the feel of the game uh at a young age, but as I’ve gotten older and advanced and, you know, face adversity and failure, those are the things that I’ve picked up on that have, you know, kind of helped me build confidence and gain trust uh throughout the years to just become better and to be consistent longer. Can’t wait for this one tomorrow night. Here’s one from Bob Nightingale. Dave Roberts saying that rookie Sasaki is now one of their top high-end leverage relievers, but stopped short of calling him the Dodgers closer. Now, you and I watched last night’s game. We saw the ninth inning. To me, he’s their closer. 11 pitches to shut it down. Seven at least, 99 plus kind of easing him into the role. And we thought that the stage might be too big for him, but he handled it like a chip. Look, last night was massive for so many different reasons for the Dodgers and for Roku Sasaki. Let’s go back to when he first burst onto the scene uh in a Dodgers uniform. Look, he was coming over. He’s 23 years old. Different situation to when we see some of these Japanese players. Now, he came to LA because he wanted to have some of that comfort, right? It’s not his team. This is Otani’s team so he can kind of go in the background. Now, we knew about this 90 94 95 m per hour middle of the plate. The command wasn’t quite quite there, but I think this is just more of just mentally deer in headlights. Greg, I’m telling you, man, there was a a element of fear for him. The pressure obviously coming from Japan, that’s such a massive deal. So, what does he do? Four months down in the minor leagues, yes, I know he had the injury, but this is more for the head space. He gets back on track. Dave Roberts did him a huge favor and his team, we’ll get to that in a second, but for Roki Sasaki personally, he basically gave him a situation in that game in Seattle at the end of the year to say, “Look, just empty the tank. I want you going 100. Throw that split.” And then it all of a sudden goes into this game. He’s got a four-run lead. Again, the pressure is not quite on him whatsoever. You’re seeing a hundreds with that nasty split. His confidence gone through the roof, but what about last night? He looked like he had a little bit of that deer in headlights. The pitch quality wasn’t that great last night either. That was a split. He kind of hung that middle of the plate. You can see him kind of bouncing off the mound. Still trying to get his bearings. That’s a tough place in the bank to get you, you know, you to have your confidence to roll in and feel like you’re a closer, right? So, I don’t think he’s all the way there, but last night, man, that was huge. How big has this move been moving into the bullpen for this Dodgers bullpen and for this team? You’ve all of a sudden got a guy who you went from the beginning of the season, he’s projected to be a starter. I know that’s a long term, but man, you haven’t just found your answer. You’ve built something and I think that to Dave Roberts credit given him enough confidence at the end of the year, that game in Cincinnati and then last night too was huge. That top rail splitter that he threw to JT Riomito starts up here, ends up top of the zone. Nasty. And then of course 99 and 100 to go with it. So we thought coming in, you could make the argument that the Dodgers had the worst bullpen in the entire playoff field. But suddenly Sasaki solidified his role at the back end and all of a sudden Tyler Glass now still in line to start game four of this series ends up being the swingman last night. Yeah. And look, you having a chance to pitch in this situation. Hasn’t done this a whole lot. But look, this was big. Look, Tyler Glass, we talked about Sasaki getting that opportunity where Dave Roberts calls him in and says, “Look, we want you to be a guy in the bullpen. and you’re going to pitch in some close games. We love you. 100 miles per hour with the split. Glass could have taken this a lot differently. Now, I know he’s still maybe projected to start one of these games, but he could have taken this completely different, but I think I love him too in regards to this role. Empty the tank. Just let that good extension that force him. Let it eat. Here’s what they did last night. Otani, we kind of buried the lead. The big story going in was his first playoff start. Nine strikeouts over six. Stopped the bleeding at those three runs. Glass now for an inning and two/3. Vessia coming on in a big spot to get out of that bases loaded jam in the eighth and then Sasaki just shutting it down for the save in the ninth. Now let’s flip and look at what the Dodgers lineup did. They trailed three nothing early on. We know about Mooki and Freddy and Show. But the guy that we keep hearing about who drives the engine in that clubhouse is Tay Oscar Hernandez and sure enough he had the biggest hit of the night. That was huge. Absolutely huge. Now, he may have gotten a little bit of help, too, but but in that situation where you you’re up against the bullpen, all of a sudden, it starts to get a little little sketchy because you’ve got a starting pitcher in there that you’re just anyone else but Sanchez last night, that lefty throwing that change up, gets an opportunity here, goes big fly, and man, what a just a turn of events. I’m telling you when when Otani gave up those three runs early in that ballpark. I’m like man situation I look I know it’s not it’s it’s not a place where the Dodgers are coming in with the time off but the Phillies were and they had enough offense early. I’m like man it’s game over with that rest of the bullpen. Maybe you know have have that momentum but that was huge. We’ll dive in on that in a little bit. So Rolley before says he got a little help. Can we run that back? Can we show one more time what Andy Pahz was doing at second base because Matt Stum made this way too easy. And we’ll get a look right here. Watch the arm. Bang. Right there. And look, Greg, we know this is just part of the game now, man. Back, you go back 10, 20 years, all of a sudden someone’s probably taking the ball, you know, off the head if you see this. But again, this is just part of the game. You mentioned Matt Strum. He’s been in this situation plenty of times. Runner on second. You just got to do a better job right there. Go to the video. Go do whatever you got to do. getting a little bit of help, getting something. But again, from Tea’s credit, look, you have to trust the information you’re getting from second and you have to trust the fact you can get to that pitch. So, let’s go to the sixth inning. Christopher Sanchez gets the first two outs. Freddy works a walk, Tommy Edmonds singles, and then Kik Hernandez, as he’s done time and time again, comes through in a big spot. You know what, the Dodgers finished the year in Seattle, right? And you’re looking at at the average for him. He’s hitting around 200. And you’re like, okay, he’s a role player, a guy who comes off the bench, plays in, you know, some different situation. What happens to him in the postseason is absolutely crazy. As you look at the numbers, uh 89 games in the postseason, he just all of a sudden something changes. He’s one of these guys, he must be where he’s just like, you know what, numbers aside, I’m just going to go out and have an absolute blast and just see a pitch, hit a pitch, and you and again, you can see the proofs in the pudding from game one. So, you see the slugging percentage at the bottom, 525 during the regular season for his career. It’s 403. So, not only does he hit in the playoffs, he hits for some pop. And then you look at the Phillies and the lack of offense last night getting that early three nothing lead trying to put the foot on the throat of Otani unable to do it. And it all starts at the top. You see Harper Schwarber and Turner a combined 1 for 11. Yeah, I think with Trey Turner, we know he’s, you know, nursing a little bit of an injury. I know he’s I know he’s playing and he’s active, but that can still play in the back of your mind. But this is a big key here. You see Kyle Schwarber getting shut down 0 for four out and three men left on base with with Schwab at the top of the lineup. So, in the eighth inning, you had Turner get on with a walk, Harper with a single, Bone with a walk, and then Vessia comes in and gets Edmund Mundo Sosa to fly out with the bases loaded. That was in a two-run game at the time. So, the Dodgers win game five to3 and now have a chance to go up two nothing once they resume tomorrow night. But today we’ve got a two pack

BLUE OCTOBER LETS GOOOO DODGERS
More like in 3 lol
Dodgers and us fans don’t want it to go to 5?? End it at 3-4!! To go five is extremely dangerous
Kikè started it. Teo ended it.
2차전은 오타니 베츠 프리먼이 폭발해섬
이길듯요 다저스는 최강팀
Cant listen to jeter. He said yankees in world series. They cant even beat the Blue jays. Got a home rum derby going on in canada
Jeter is a hater, what a joke with his analysis
Dodgers in 3
Jeter was a yankee I don’t trust anything he says about the dodgers!
😂😂😂it ain't going 5 , it's over once they get to L. A.
Over-hyped fans can easily say unrealistic things but this is not what I’m doing. OUR PITCHING IS SO MUCH OF A JUGGERNAUT THAT THE ONLY THING THAT WILL KEEP US FROM 4 SERIES SWEEPS IS IF WE SCORE LESS THAN 5 RUNS A GAME!!!!!!! PERIOD!!!!!
These idiots change their minds every inning… Clowns
Listening to A-roid makes want to puke… WTF is embarrassment of challenges??
😂 5 games 😂 Snell then Yamamoto in LA 😂 GOOD LUCK PHILLIES 😂 🧹 SWEEP 🧹
Luzardp talking like a kid with zero playoff experience and who padded his regular season stats by beating up on weak teams.
i think you are wrong derek. the phillies are choking in the playoffs and the dodgers will be champs in 3. by the way, besides being a dodgers loyalist now, i was once a yankees fan. my faves in your team are, of course, you and ichiro suzuki.
Go Dodgers just play ball
Dodgers needs to do it in 4 , Phillis is always tough home
Dodgers in 3
"Dodgers in 3" <- My prediction!
And Phillies will lose again….😂
I say sweep out the nail in a coffin ⚰️
They didn’t “get to Ohtani early”. If Teoscar had dove for the ball, instead of just letting it go, I think Shohei could have shut them out through his 6 innings. Keeping them to only 3 runs is a massive accomplishment for his first postseason start.
