Fernando Tatis Jr. has been ordered to pay Big League Advance $3.74 million by an independent arbitrator. The decision was made last month amid Tatis’ attempt to void the future-earnings deal that he signed as an 18-year-old in the Dominican Republic, years before inking a 14-year, $340 million deal with the Padres.

  1. You’re reaching. Sure it was on his mind I’m guessing. I think getting hit by pitches was a bigger issue that seemed to derail his season. My2c.

  2. Tatis needs a sports psychologist and it’s painfully obvious. He kinda reminds me of Marshawn Lynch. I think he’s just a really unique individual and in the right headspace is unbeatable. But he’s not in there most of the time and I don’t know why. I think he will start getting even better as he gets older.

  3. Probably didn’t help, but that amount of money is should be trivial for a guy making his salary. The real question is whether we’ll ever see the 2019-21 version of Tatis again. This franchise needs him to be that level of player, and the reality is that he’s not been that player in the 3 seasons since the PED/shoulder issues.

  4. Not at all, he had a broken arm in June, played through it–context is a thing–use it.

  5. If he’s bothered for that, he’s just a that level player. Ohtani made 50-50 while having enormous fraud scandal. I believe Tatis isn’t.

  6. It was a hot and cold year for him, but Tatis had a great year. He struggled some in August, but his 2nd half numbers were comparable to his 1st half.

People expect 2021 Tatis, but he isn’t that guy anymore, but is still a highly valuable player.

  7. I don’t know if it was the BLA thing but it did seem like something was weighing him down all season.

  8. That, baby mama drama, kids….too much time to stand around and think in RF too. I think him being moved to RF wasn’t a big enough deal because of how fast he was able to become such a great defender so fast in the outfield. I guarantee Tatis Jr saw it as a massive demotion and the fact that he’s not at center stage playing the infield have had a huge impact on not only his play on the field but his life off the field. I don’t think that Tatis Jr is at his best when he is thinking (not to be a jerk), he’s a reaction-type, explosive energy, game changer and i feel that he played exponentially better and so did Manny, when they were side by side in the infield. I know that Tatis is an outfielder now, Bogaerts looked pretty good these last few games. I definitely think the BLA case and a bunch of off the field issues are starting to wear on him and it’s impeding him from putting up numbers like he is capable.

  9. Baby Mama Drama, being sued to provide equal lifestyles for two different households would weigh on anyone. Sad to say but Nando is like 26 going on 17. He needs to mature and make better decisions off the field.
