I expected it to be 8 years $160 million. If Kaprizov gets $17m aav then there’s no way McDavid should be lower than $20m

Of all the opinions I heard over the past few months, I couldn’t even imagine a 2year x 12.5…Definitely went the Crosby route, all the money he made from the MGM betting app coming in big time.
They spent the cap relief on… WALMAN (7×7)????

McDavid: Kaprizov got 17m. I can get 20m. I’ll sign for 12.5m and you have two years to use those cap savings to build a cup winner.

On the second photo, all i can see is the meme of the guy pointing behind him.
The intent is in the contract. $12.5 AAV is saying get quality goaltending and depth, and the 2 years means cup or I’m out.

Smart move by McDavid, gives the Oilers a deadline to get it done, gives them cap space to plug their holes, and if they don’t they can’t blame it on McDavid’s contract and the Oilers will come out looking like absolute incompetent dumbasses. It’s all on the team management now
Smart move from McDavid. Edmonton’s options for goalie upgrades this offseason weren’t amazing; this contract gives the team the flexibility to get someone in the 2026 or 2027 offseasons. If Bowman can’t get it done by then, I think it’s fair for him to go cup-chasing elsewhere
Edmonton is on the clock for a Cup. Bet your ass if they don’t win one in the next 3 years, McDavid is out.
