Could Comerica Park’s name change after acquisition? Here’s what Fifth Third says

Tl;dr they don’t know yet if they’re keeping the Comerica branding in Michigan.
Maybe they’ll have to move south and play in Fifth Third Park.
There’s already a 5/3 Park in south carolina, so I’m guessing they’ll keep the Comerica brand and let the naming rights expire whenever the contract ends (2034 I think based on some quick googling)
As a Houston and Detroit fan, trust me, they don’t care about tradition. That name is always for sale….
It’s things like this that remind me that I always appreciate when the stadium and field have separate names. Even if that in and of itself is also kinda dumb.
Give us “Tigers Stadium – presented by 5/3 Bank”
It’s an inevitability the name will change. They’re not going to keep the name of a company they don’t identify as and no longer exists.
5/3 Bank Field at Tigers Stadium. Do what the Denver Broncos did.
They said nothing. The name will change they just don’t want to deal with the kick back right now.
Pizza Pizza Park
translation from corporate PR: “F U Illitch, Pay Us, or we’re naming it 5/3rd Bank And DTE Energy Stadium 2, Presented By Fanduel”
>“The decades-long relationship between the Detroit Tigers and Comerica is authentic, steeped in tradition and ties together two household names in Michigan and across the nation,” a statement from Ilitch Holdings said in 2018. “The depth and breadth of our partnership with Comerica Bank stands out. We’re extremely excited to build on that partnership in coming years with the Tigers, as well as the Red Wings, and throughout The District Detroit.”
>In a statement released to 7 News Detroit on Monday, a spokesperson for the company said that Comerica Park is a beloved landmark in the city, and the company recognizes its significance to Tigers fans.
>”As we move forward with the merger, we remain focused on honoring the legacy of both institutions and continuing to support the places and partnerships that matter most to our customers and communities,” the statement continues. “While it’s too early to discuss any potential changes to facility names, we are committed to thoughtful decisions that reflect our shared values and long-standing community ties.”
Holy fuck, what absolute corporate drivel. What insulting, empty speech. They treat you like you have a five-year-old level of literacy.
It should *never* have been named “Comerica” Park to begin with–it’s just souless corporate brands trying to plaster their name on *everything*. Comerica Bank doesn’t care about common people–they want to extract as much money from them as possible, to further their shitty corpo investments and make *themselves* more money. And then they offshore their interests so they never have to pay taxes back to the government.
Who cares if a *different* shitty bank wants to plaster their name on the stadium that has NOTHING to do with their profession, except for $$$? The moral integrity was already lost, out the window, now decades ago.
