“49ERS ARE THE NFL’S WORST NIGHTMARE!” – ESPN GOES CRAZY AS 49ERS MOVE TO 3-0 AFTER COMEBACK WIN!
Let’s talk about Nick Bosa. Just the 49ers just cannot catch a break it seems these last couple of years with injuries. Um a knee injury. Uh it sounds like Kyle Shanahan is saying that it doesn’t appear to be an ACL injury. Um they haven’t ruled it out though. There’s some concern because of how he feels. I know that we have a video as well kind of showing him given a thumbs down uh in terms of how he’s feeling. Uh here’s that video there. Uh maybe not so good. Um so Damen, when you think about what this team is already dealing with, and we’re going to talk about M. Jones as well with a knee injury too, but all of the injuries stacking up. They’re still at the top of the division, but it just feels like it cannot continue like this. Well, it’s kind of like when we talk about teams that lose early in the season and their margin for error gets a lot slimmer as the season goes on. But when you talk about from a health perspective, you just can’t afford to lose guys like this and in particular Nick Bosa because I know you got Fred Warner, I know you got other guys that play well for this defense. You don’t go without Nick Bosa. You don’t go without the consistent pressure that he brings to the quarterback’s lap. You don’t go without the run presence that he has. He’s a leader on this team. Maybe not vocal because we know he’s a quiet guy, but he’s similar to Michael Parsons. When he steps on the field, all the guys play better around him because they look at this guy as in this is our fearless leader. We have to rise our level of play to match his. That way we can be a complete defense and not be so onedimensional as far as using just one player. But losing a guy like Nick Bosa, it’s just not something that you want to see, especially if you’re an injury riddle team like the San Francisco 49ers. Here’s the other piece, and I’ll keep it light. This is a very young defensive front. They were really young coming into the year. I think they drafted three guys at the at the position to kind of shore up to find other pieces outside of Nick Bosa because they move him around from left to right to get him going, get create matchups for him. And now not having him is now going to force this young group to really have to mature and and grow up really fast. But if there’s one person who I believe in that can get these guys to step up and that’s their defensive line coach Chris Caceric who is one of the best in the game. So now his young pups are going to have to step up and become the big dog. Even Rob Salah as well to your point. But here’s the thing. When you’re a star built team with heavy contracts on the stars, you have to hope like hell every star stays on the field. right now if you look at it right now who’s not on the field party’s not on the field George KD’s not on the field Nick Bosa is not on the field IU’s not on the field I mean but but I mean those are stars and when you take them out of the equation you don’t have all that cash around to have the good depth that you naturally need to kind of supplement it and that’s when your team starts falling apart so they’ve been dealing with this for the last two years they’re not the 49ers because of the injuries and because they’re very topheavy well I guess what does that say then about this Ner team. And I will say that uh M. Jones said that he reagravated an injury, a PCL injury that he was dealing with in training camp. It’s good though. It sounds like Brock Perie is going to come back uh potentially in week four. But Pete, to that point, top of the division, they’re undefeated, going to get their quarterback back. Does it give you a maybe a little bit of confidence? It sounds like things are trying to trend in the right direction. If they get their guys back, I picked them to win a division before the season. I because I I believe in stars. I think you have to have stars to win, and they do, provided they’re on the field. But even if these injuries aren’t seasoning ending, and they’re not. KD’s going to be back. Perie’s going to be back. Uh we don’t know what Bose’s injury is. Those guys will be back, but they’re still the to me they’re still the team to beat in the division. I know the Rams are very good and Seattle’s playing good. Arizona pushed them to the limit today. So, it’s a tough division to win. I still think those stars matter, and that’s why I think the 49ers will win it. What do you think about the Cardinals? The Cardinals are a tough team, man. And the way that Monty Oenfort um has built this team, they are a really good competitive team, is just unfortunate. They’re in the NFC West and it’s just going to be hard to kind of come out of that spot, which they’ve kind of traditionally been that fourth team in the division and could still end the season as the fourth team, maybe being a seven, eight, nine win team just based off how this division is stacked. And going back to the 49ers, their strength of schedule is amongst the weakest in the league. And they’re still they’re winning games like Pete said, without their stars. So you hope that when these stars are back that this offense really takes off. But the cool thing about this team and the way it’s constructed, it’s now we’re seeing guys like Ricky Pieraw grow up right before our eyes step into it. We we laugh and we joke about M. Jones, but then Mack is stepping in, playing in an offense that’s tailored to what he does best, and they’re still winning games no matter with no matter who’s in there. Unfortunately, as we keep the injury conversation going, we’re just getting uh some reports in about James Connor, the running back, was carded off today. Looks like it’s going to be a season ending ankle injury that is going to require surgery. I mean, Damen, when you talk about a guy who just can’t catch a break, it feels like he just gets going, gets going, and then something like this happens. And it’s unfortunate because if he could stay healthy, I think he would be one of the best running backs in the league. I mean, he’s tough. He’s gritty. He’s got every tool in the toolbox as a runner. He can receive the ball out of the back field. He’s a three down back. But when you look at his story and his injury history, all going all the way back to his cancer diagnosis. I mean, it’s so unfortunate because sometimes good things happen to bad people, but all we can do is just pray and and hope bad things happen to good people. Oh, yeah. Excuse me. Bad things happen to good people. Excuse me. Excuse me. Shoot. Shoot. Shoot. Flip. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Look, it’s been a long day. You know, it’s been a long day. That’s why I’m here. I’m here to help. Yeah. Yeah. Bad things happen to good people. So, you know, let’s just pray for James Conor because we know he’s a good dude. We know he’s fought through a lot of adversity. I wouldn’t expect this to be any different, but we’re all going to hang our heads in sadness because this is a special player. He’s just he’s unfortunately riddled with some bad circles. But you’re right, good things do happen to bad people cuz I had a good week picking game. So, here you go. That’s what I was going to say. I wasn’t wrong. I was just wrong in context, you know. That’s all. That’s all. That’s all. Good point, though. Obviously, we want to keep our thoughts there with James Connor. Uh, it is interesting in that division. I do want to quickly talk about the Steelers, guys, before we go to all the teams listed here. Now, we have to find a way to break it down one way or another. So, fellas, what we’re going to do here is we’re going to look at each 3 and 0 team, and I want to know who is the best, who’s a surprise, and which one is fool’s gold. Le, I’ll ask you first. For the best, I’m going with Jay Herbo and the Chargers. Love what he’s done this year. There were so many question marks with him when it comes to in-game scenarios. Could he get it done? We saw it already the first week versus the Kansas City Chiefs, right? We saw it yesterday versus a really vaunted Broncos defense. They had his number in the first half, Ran, but I love the mental fortitude of Jay Herbo. We saw the play right there. Zack Allen, the AllPro, has him dead to right. He’s able to shrug him off. Nick Bonito’s in his face. He’s able to roll to the left. if he’s a right-handed quarterback, sidearm it and put it to Keenan Allen right where he needed it and then that two-minute drive at the end to get Dicker the kicker in in field goal range to win the game. Love what I’ve seen for them right now. To me, they’re the best 3 and 0 team. And when you go to the most surprising team, Indiana Jones and the Colts, man, you have to love what you’ve seen from Daniel Jones. to Ran’s point, Jonathan Taylor, I mean, is ridiculous. That touchdown run we saw where he broke about three or four tackles. There’s another one, the next touchdown run in the red zone in the low goal line area where he breaks another four tackles and gets into the end zone. The one thing that I really love that Daniel Jones is doing or Indiana Jones is doing is he’s spreading the football around, ran, you never know which receiver is going to go out, right? First week it was Tyler Warren. This last week it was Michael Pitman. Week before that it was Alec Pierce. He’s living within the offense and hitting the open guy. Do you know the Colts ran have only punted one time, which is a record since 1940 in the first three games to only punt one time. They’ve only punted one time. So, the offense is playing at an elite level. And then the most surprising team, and this one might surprise people, the San Francisco 49ers. They find a way to win it even in the ugliest of ways. We saw it in week one, Nick Bosa calls game. Week two, Bryce Huff calls game. Mac and Cheese Jones, he decided to put a nice drive together at the end. We saw the highlight where he finds CMC on the screen play and then they set up Eddie Pinero for the game-winning field goal with the all the injuries they’ve dealt with. For them to be 3 and 0 is a testament to this team. Well, I feel like I’m copying off Alij’s paper to this point. My my best team right now is I’m going to say the Philadelphia Eagles. And I say that because they have not had a dominant or signature victory so far this season, but yet they’re finding ways to win these football games. And so you got to give them credit for that and being able to use other people outside of Saquon Barkley to get these wins because you’re going to need him later in the season. And I felt like coming into this year, especially coming off of him having 400 plus touches last year, you have to wean him this season and not feed him the ball early. my surprise team copying off of Lee’s paper. I’m going with Indiana Jones and the uh and the Colts. And it’s not necessarily that how it’s to me it’s how they’re winning these games and they’re winning it with being efficient on offense and being a really good defense. Now, here’s what I will say. The combined record of the three teams that they faced is 1 and eight, right? So, they’re supposed to win these games, but again, for me, it’s how they win these games. Le said it, they’ve only punt it one time. And if you would have went into a year saying that the Colts would have only punted one time, nobody would have believed that. And for me, where I’ll say the jury is still out, I’m not gonna call them fools goal, even though that’ll be a play off the 49ers and the whole mining thing. To me, it’s it’s the San Francisco 49ers. And I’m only saying that because of the strength of schedule. They had the weakest strength of schedule in the league and they’re doing they’re getting these wins with backup players. So, I just want to see what it’s going to look like when the schedule ramps up a little bit. But here’s what I want to say for Niner fans out there. The last seven times that the Niners started 3 and 0, in four of those seven times they went to the Super Bowl. But in all seven, they made the playoffs. Not saying this is a Super Bowl team, but history says that this team has an opportunity to uh make it to the playoffs. Yeah, if you’re 3 and 0 at this point, you obviously are a very, very good team. And so the best team of the 3 and 0 bunch for me is the reigning defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles. team that when their starters are out there, they just don’t lose the game. And they’re figuring out ways to win. And they’re doing it in all three phases, right? When the defense needs to step up and get a stop against the Kansas City Chiefs or against Dak Prescott, who’s throwing MVP caliber footballs in week one, they do that. When AJ Brown needs to be force-fed by Jaylen Herz, when Saquon Barkley needs to break one off, the offense does that. And when special teams needs to make a play, right? Jake Elliott who couldn’t kick from 50 plus yards for a couple of years, then starts nailing 50 plus yarders. And then of course what we saw yesterday with the two block field goals, the Philadelphia Eagles are the most complete team. And so they are the best team for me. The most surprising team is the San Francisco 49ers. And that is because of how they have been able to win games with so many injuries. Okay, I think we know about the talent, but we saw last year when they had all of those injuries, they just couldn’t get the job done. Brock Perie goes out who believed in M. Jones, who believed that we were going to see a M. Jones who would beat a 2 and 0 Arizona Arizona Arizona Cardinals team with a really good defense, the M. Jones that we just saw in Jacksonville. I didn’t necessarily believe that. And so, they are winning despite of their injuries. And that is why I would call them a surprise. And the team that the jury is still out on, look, you’re 3 and 0 at this point. I think you’re going to the playoffs. I think you’re a legitimate team, but I have to do this because that’s what the producers say. It’s the Indianapolis Colts. And is the Colts because of their strength of schedule and who they have played, right? It has been the Miami Dolphins, whom I think a lot of people would put in the bottom four in the NFL right now. And then they’re coming off a game against the Tennessee Titans where they’re doing things big and small incorrectly. And so now we have seen Daniel Jones. I said it on air last week. I wanted to see Daniel Jones do it for a third time. I’ve now seen it. And so I’m not going to sit here and say, “Well, I got to see Daniel Jones do it for a fourth game.” I have seen it. But there’s going to be a big test against the LA Rams coming up. Uh if you really truly believe that they haven’t played a playoff caliber team, all due respect to the Denver Broncos, we are about to see it in week four. Huh. Interesting. real quick cuz I want to pose a question to all three of you guys because it seems like everybody has the same Chargers, niners, and Colts, but no love for the Bills with Josh Allen. No love for the Bucks and what we seen them. I mean, anybody chime in on that? No. No surprise, no jury’s out, no best team. Go ahead, Rant right there. Brandon, here here’s what I’ll say. To me, in terms of the best team, we’re talking about the defended Super Bowl champions and they’re still undefeated and so and they found a plenty of ways to get it done. To me, they’re still the Crim Dear Crim. They are still the reigning Super Bowl champions and they’re playing like a good football team. So, that’s why I wouldn’t have the Bills on there, but respect to the Bills. Yeah, I have a lot of respect. But you also to to the point of Rand and also JJ. When you talk about the Colt schedule, look at who the Bills have played. The Miami Dolphins and the Jets. Both of those teams are over for now. They did beat the Ravens and obviously the Ravens gave them an opportunity fumbling and turning the ball over late, but they played two teams that that are over right now. So, I still have some concerns with that Bills defense and stopping the run. They have not been able to do it consistently enough. We even saw the Miami Dolphins have success running the football. I just think the Chargers are a better overall team right now. And so, for me, I think the Bills are number two with the number one being a really great defending Super Bowl champion, right? And so, that’s no shade at all to the Bills who can certainly overtake the Eagles as this season goes along. the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. I absolutely want to credit Todd BS who has turned around a lot of the perception about him. I talked about this yesterday on CBS Sports HQ. No one wants to play the 60th minute Tampa Bay Buccaneers. And for years, the the book on Todd BS was he can’t manage games, right? He has he struggles with time management and clock management and all that. And right now, the Buccaneers and they have poured a lot of resources into game management. hired a game management coach this past offseason. Todd BS has listened. It is working and they are arguably the best in the NFL when it comes to managing game situations. That’s why you see them at 3 and 0 when there would be a lot of teams that would be one and two right now in their spot. Yeah. Six teams overall on the NFL sitting at 3 and 0. Whether you’re fool’s gold or sitting at the top of the class, you still want to
