FIRST TAKE | Tyreek Hill’s career is OVER! – Stephen A. Smith on Dolphins WR injury in win over Jets
Obviously, Miami beat the Jets to get their first win of the season, but it came with unfortunately a loss as well as you see Tyreek Hill carded off the field in the third quarter with what looked like really a bad knee injury. And today, we do have confirmation from one Adam Shfter. He posted on X earlier this morning and he said, quote, “In addition to dislocating his knee, Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill also tore multiple ligaments in his knee, including his ACL. He’ll remains hospitalized and will undergo surgery today, meaning Tuesday.” Now, we have to open this up to what this means for the Dolphins obviously and Tyreek Tyreek Hill’s future going forward. And so, Marcus, I’ll go to you first. A really unfortunate injury obviously for one Tyreek Hill, but also for the Dolphins who base their entire offense around this man. Shay, you used the perfect word. It’s unfortunate cuz last night I felt like they got in a groove with Tyreek. They found him some opportunities to get open. He was using this run after catch ability and you saw kind of this lightning strike from this team that we’ve been looking forward to. Now, the Jets ain’t world beaters on defense, but we also but we also but but this is we’ve seen this offense operate in that vein and have a tremendous amount of success. And I also thought with the addition of Darren Waller and Tyreek Hill being on the field, this would put Tua in a situation where we don’t have to worry about him with the second read. You got a big fella just go up and make a play if you get in trouble. So Tyreek going down is is is is catastrophic for this team from the standpoint of how teams defend you now. How people come into games not having to worry about him and wrecking a football game. They still got Waddle and it’s still Waller who looks like he’s going to be a big part of this offense. But we know why Tyreek Hill got a hundred plus million dollars as a wide receiver. It’s because people are terrified when they play against him and the potential of him breaking the game wide open. Yeah. We’ve never seen Tua be good without Tyreek Hill. We’ve seen Tyreek Hill be good with other quarterbacks. And when you ask me big picture, what does this mean for the Miami Dolphins? It means that their head coach and general manager probably going to get fired. That’s that’s what it means. Coming into this season, Mike McDaniel had the third shortest odds of any coach to be fired first. And I have seen nothing through the first four weeks to change that for me. I’m not gonna get enamored by what I saw last night because I think that had a whole lot to do with the Jets being short-handed on defense, missing a first round draft pick and an all pro player in their front seven. And then of course offensively the miscues. You’re talking about them having three fumbles in a four possession span. Two of those being in plus territory, one being in the shadow of the end zone for the Dolphins going in. If Brilen Allen doesn’t fumble the ball and they score a touchdown, that’s a 14-point swing right there in the game alone. So you had two plus territory turnovers and you got no points out of those drives and then you fumble the ball coming out of halftime. It was an absolute embarrassment. So to me that game was a lot more about the Jets losing it than it was about the Dolphins winning it. That is more good game and less good sign. I am not optimistic about what the future holds for the Miami Dolphins because they just lost their best player last night in the identity of that football team. Well, well, let’s be let’s let’s let’s put it where the Gats can get it. Season’s over. I mean, we thought it was over before. It damn sure’s over now. They ain’t doing that. I’m about to say like it was over before. I mean, it looked like it was over before. It’s definitely over now. The Dolphins season is done. The Jets, um Aaron Glenn, my brother, y’all just looked disorganized. It it like you’re a new head coach. You’re the former defensive coordinator with the Detroit Lions. The star that came attached to him and his name and taking the job. We saw the Jets on national TV last night look like the bad news bears just all every error that you could have come up with. It was just horrible. Okay. And so that that that I mean we gonna be talking about Aaron Glenn. They don’t change they don’t change how they look. It’s one thing to lose. It’s another thing to look how the New York Jets look last night. Let’s get that out the way. Back to the Dolphins. We got to remember that Tyreek Hill even though I think this I I know the Dolphins season is over. Let’s hold off for a second. Mike McDaniels and Chris Greer in this regard. Tyreek Hill is enduring was enduring the worst two stretch period of his career. Over the last 21 games, he had 1224 yards and and like seven touchdowns in 21 games. That’s not the Tyreek Hill we know and love. He didn’t have a thousand yard season last year even though he played all 17 games. Okay. Prior to four years prior to that, the brother was just electrifying. Right. You’re gonna be 32 years of age. Okay. So start of 2026, you ain’t gonna be ready to play then. Okay, so we got all of that out the way. Now, here’s where it gets interesting though for the Dolphins and their coach. If somehow someway you look better without Tyreek Hill, right? Audition than you did with him. Okay. And the ball is spread around a bit more and let’s say, dare we say, they find a way to be effective. That might I don’t think it’s going to happen. Okay. All right. I don’t think it’s gonna happen. I think Mike McDaniel’s done. I think Chris Gre’s done. But what I’m saying is if that if they look better without Tyreek Hill, then that’s usually a good sign for the coach. I can’t see that happening, but who knows? I know you played on Law and Order, but you sound like one of them defense attorneys for for Chris Greer and Mike McDaniel. I’m I’m not trying to be I’m not trying to be because they’ve been they’ve been a long they’ve been there long enough and they haven’t had nearly the results that they should have. the investment that they’ve made in the quarterback, the investment that they’ve made in the roster, the the the cash that owner Steven Ross has spent, for them not to have a playoff win on the ledger, that that’s an embarrassment for them to perform the way they have through the first quarter the last two years. They missed the players the last Exactly. And the quarterback missing a third of the season has a lot to do with that. So, you’re saying Tyreek Hill didn’t perform up to expectations? It’s hard to do that when you don’t have the quarterback that you expect. That’s why he should have left Kansas City. Well, Stephen A, now you’re having an entirely different argument. Yeah, but I don’t think any of those things I I don’t think anything that happens to the Dolphins, including losing Tyreek Hill, is going to provide Mike McDaniel and Chris Greer cover if the if they don’t have any tangible results. Can I say though, last year like coming after the season, we didn’t even know if Tyreek Hill was going to come back to the Dolphins. He’s like flirting with maybe going somewhere else. I remember him sipping his smoothie during like making it all chill. So, I don’t know that him and Tua have this like great relationship anyways. It’s like maybe it’s a Stefon Dicks situation. I’m not comparing ex I mean listen Tyreek Hill is one of the best receivers in the league. I’m not trying to say that any team that doesn’t have him isn’t going to be worse without him, but maybe it is a little bit of addition by subtract. Well, your point is perfect because this is not we not having a new conversation even when they had Tyreek Hill on the roster whether Mike McDaniel or Chris Gill wouldn’t be there anymore. So pre-injjury we was talking about how long would they make it. Yeah. Right now, we talking about actually on the field football production, which hurts you in that regard because he’s such a good player. But ultimately, this general manager and head coach was under the most most scrutiny coming into the season as anybody. One, because of the capital spent on this football team. You think about, we always focus on offense with Miami. They pay people on defense and some people gone that they paid on defense. Xavier Howard, they had guys Christian Wilkins, they let him go in free agency, went to uh Vegas. So, a lot of things have transpired. I think Chris Greer as the general manager has made good decisions about good players for some particular reason. When they get to Miami, the performance slumps Tyreek has been traction for some reason. You would know we know we know the reason we know they get to Miami and it’s South Beach is undefeated. It’s a little different. It’s a little different. But but that’s the conundrum, right? Like we’ve always talked about the offensive line and their struggles, but ultimately when we’ve looked at moves that’s been made for the Miami Dolphins, we’ve said, “Damn, that’s pretty good.” We had the long wait for Tua and his contract to see if he was the guy. I know they were taking their time to try to figure that out. That hasn’t fully come to fruition. You can see glimpses of why Tua got paid when he’s in rhythm and doing well. Miami is in a bad spot. And I think it’s more about being in a bad spot because the guys you’ve brought over in free agency, you haven’t got what you wanted out. got listen you know it’s bad cuz I don’t know if y listen I watched Miami I mean they rolled up they rolled up there you know they were 0 and three right and I mean before they went 0 and three they lost game like I’m sitting there you know how you watching the game you’re on YouTube you got the four games on the screen or you watching the game right fellas so a few weeks ago I’m watching the Miami Dolphins and and you know you turn away and I came back and I’m like damn they won the game why did I say that because these cats are in front of the camera doing postgame interviews They got smiles on their face. They good, you know. Say, “Yeah, you know, I mean, we just got to keep it together, you know. We’ll be all, you know, we’ll be all right.” You know, we did some good things today. I was like, “This and I mean, we won. Did I miss and they lost the damn game?” And you saw no indication. You heard nothing from them that indicated they lost the game. And then I looked and I was like, “That is in Miami. It makes sense. They the sun is going to shine today. It’s still going.

Hill gave it ALL to the NFL. He’s definitely an all-time great! 👍🏽 Kets out him in our prayers. When a warrior gets injured like that it’s hard not to cry for him. We do not understand his pain but we can clearly sympathize with his suffering. He will overcome this injury and I hope he finds peace. He’s not alone. Stand with our warriors and when they fall we pick them up. I hate to see it when people are not taking the athletes point of view into consideration.

Sad 😔
Career is over. And he’ll be broke in 5 years with his 5 baby mamas. Good luck, Tyreek.
This is why Jerry Jones is making the decisions in Dallas 😮 4 number one draft picks and all the rest of his picks in tact for the next 2 years 😊 a bad General Manager can ruin an NFL franchise 😢 Miami 🐬 Dolphins is the perfect example 😢 I hope Dan Marino 🏈 becomes the General Manager next season!'
Tyreek Hill was incredibly stupid for leaving Kansas City. The truth is he’s done absolutely NOTHING since joining the Miami Dolphins. Zero playoff victories, zero conference championships, zero Super Bowls. He took the big paycheck over winning multiple super bowls. Now his career is over and he’s sadly going to retire with one Super Bowl (SB 54) and that’s it. He could have taken the $85 million in KC and never have left for Miami. Now he can look back at that horrible decision. Tua is NOT Patrick Mahomes and Tyreek Hill going to Miami was a horrible decision right from day one. Happy retirement Tyreek. Look forward to watching you on ESPN here shortly.
Tyreek had a nice run, made a lot of money. He might come back, but he'll never be what he was. I hope he took care of his finances.
Tyreek Hill is going to be 32 years old and to tear and ACL, PCL, MCL and Meniscus plus dislocate the knee cap, that’s too much of an injury to come back from especially at his age. He’ll never been the same dynamic player after surgery. So that’s why I’m being honest by saying his career is pretty much over with. If he decides to come back and play again, it’s going to take over a year for this to heal. So that’s next October IF his recovery goes well plus rehab too. So at best he’ll return by week 6 or 7 of next year and then will he have any explosiveness at all??? That’s going to be the big big question. This horrible injury is pretty much career ending for Tyreek Hill. Very very sad. We wish you a speedy recovery Tyreek. Hopefully we will see you play football again at some point.
But honestly for Tyreek to tear 4 MAJOR ligaments in his knee. That’s a very very tough blow. That’s all the structural ligaments that make up the knee. To tear ALL OF THEM, WOW that’s going to be incredibly hard to bounce back from.
We need to keep his family and children in our prayers. Unfortunately he be home a lot
OH THE POOR MULTI MILLIONAIRE
i agree..i dot hink he will be the same.shocked if he could make cuts on that leg
I wish Tyreek a speedy and complete recovery. The reality is that he may not be able to perform at an NFL level after this. He may be looking at a complete knee replacement.
Daat was a CLAP 👏🏽 OF PAIN
Between HGH and stem cells I wouldn't count out an excellent physical recovery but mentally he should be shopping for golf clubs because why come back from an injury like that at an age where most guys in his position wash out at 33. It makes no sense. If he was 7 years earlier in his career it's an easier sell because he might have blown through a good chunk of his first contract and wants to set himself up for life with one more good contract and wants to be known for more than the promising guy that blew out his knee.
Thinking 9-8 for the dolphins – not necessarily over
WHO CARES…about this VIOLENT BEATER OF WOMEN!
Unless he accepts becoming a journeyman when he heals, he's done 🤷🏽♂️
When are we getting Stephen A Smiths high school highlight tape????
Tua Sucks 👎
TH is not worth the off field baggage. kC found about that.
Coukdnt have happened to better guy
Tua is the worst decision the Dolphins have made since Dick Satan!!!
That canty dude is such a negative hater. Why do we have people on here so biased and negative towards current teams and players? Stating Tua hasn't been good without tyreek and that tyreek was good before tua even though when Tyreek paired with Tua those are Tyreeks best numbers as a pro. Let's not forget Waddle had like 3 seasons with 1k yards or more 2 before tyreek was there I believe with Tua. Stop hating dude you're a clown. There is never any positive comments from him when it comes to the dolphins or Tua. I think he played for the Jets and is just a hater, get people on these shows that just love and know the game. We don't need every ex player because they are spewing nonsense.
Nothing good happened to KD after leaving Golden State. Same thing for Tyreek Hill
Last time tyreek didn't play vs a top 5 defense the talking heads said they were screwed. Tua then goes to dominate them like he was their daddy.
Their best player is tua by far. Tyreek was good before Miami. But he only became great because of tua.
Genetics is a powerful thing and everybody Heels differently and with these surgeries being so advance now, there is that chance he will come back and be effective, not saying the same but effective, cause father time is undefeated and you cant stop the aging process.
Stick him with a fork! Done..! Outta here. Gone
I think this unfortunate situation will help Waddle, Waller, Achane, and Tua……Tua doesn't have to force anything to Tyreek….I think Waddle will show his #6 pick overall skills
Nobody's terrified of Tyreek Hill except for his wife
Hill will have greater difficulty beating women and children for a while. Screw the fool.
That child support about to go down. His income is zero. 😂 he is clapping
Stephen A is just trying to play smarter than everyone here by doing the what if? 😂😂😂
Let’s be real the dolphins weren’t going anywhere with him anyway, I hope he recovers and finds a new QB an team in the future even if it’s short term
HE'S DONE
I am hoping he stays out of trouble during his retirement ! Please don’t be one of those guyz!
It's sad that this isn't going anywhere 🤔
I just need to know what they gave Ty on that sideline.. Man tore and twisted his whole shit, but was the happiest guy in the stadium
Hill is a thug. Good riddance.
Miami has sucked eggs since 1980. That right even with dam Marino and don shula their dominate years been over 45 years! 45 years! Towa and this Poindexter coach are the most recent in a long line of LOSERS………….
Tyreek Theismann Hill is toast.
He got like 7 kids with multiple baby mamas. Brothas think it can’t end
No one will miss this clown.
Ahem, we saw Tua good without Hill, I believe he’s like 28-15 td/ints and 90.1 rating before hill. He’s great with Hill, but good without. If Waddle can really step up, he has Waller and Washington looks nice too. I believe he will be fine and Tyreek will come back and be a solid 3rd option with 90-94 speed no longer 99 speed.
Tua sucks and Miami is a waste of time and money
Tyreek is a woman beating asshole that Should be in Prison!!! We let him go to Miami years ago because of his legal issues. He’s worse than ever with 8 charges against him, he’s a Spoiled brat who can’t control his own emotions and temper. He should be out of the league forever. Maybe this injury will help with his EXIT. Don’t feel one bit sorry for someone who is such a horrible person, He’s getting exactly what he deserves. Goodnight diva boy No tears shed here.
Tyreek Hill's career is OVER! So are all the other players on the team.
