NHL Pre-Season Winnipeg Jets vs Calgary Flames Full Game October 3 2025

[Music] Tonight, the Jets wrap their preeason with their second meeting against the Flames in less than a week. It’s not the regular season yet, but the good news is both lineups look very much as they should when play starts next week. It’s Winnipeg and Calgary on TSN. [Music] Per scores. Sets it up. He scores. Gabriel Bernardi shoots and scores. Boy, it’s almost becoming a certainty like taxes. You cannot avoid the forg. [Applause] This is my story. You can ignore me for the glory. [Applause] [Music] We are at Scotia Bank Saddle Dome in Calgary. The Jets will be back here on October 20th for the first of a pair of regular season games in the span of 5 days between these two teams. This is a preseason game. You’d have to think the level of intensity should be pretty high. Mark Shley had a careerhigh in points last year with 87. Here’s a question. How much of the offensive load will he and his linemates have to shoulder this season? and Parker Ford likely won’t make the opening night roster, but with an injury to Jonathan Te. He gets a chance to strut his stuff and hopefully be an early callup should the Jets need one in the regular season. Good evening everybody. Welcome to Jets on TSN. I’m Dan Robertson. Kevin Sawyer will join us in just a moment. Tonight it is the final preseason game for both the Jets and the Calgary Flames. Let’s talk injuries for a minute. They’ve really popped up across the league the last week or so here in Calgary. No Jonathan Uber or Martin Poso. They were shaken up two nights ago. More importantly, as far as the Jets go, we know the bad news about Dylan Samberg out 6 to 8 weeks with a broken wrist. Jonathan Taves is dayto-day. He tweaked something on Tuesday. Did not skate today. And we know Adam Lowry won’t be ready for the start of the season. So, let’s go between the benches now and uh join with Kevin. Kevin, let’s talk about intensity. Our last game was last Friday in Edmonton. We didn’t see a lot of it. Should we see more of that here tonight? These last preseason games, the last one of the preseason is always intense for a few different reasons. won. Calgary kind of got embarrassed. The 8-1 loss to Vancouver. Their coach Ryan Husk is calling for more and Scott Arnell’s group has six days to think about this game and you want to set yourself up for some good examples, some good feelings, some good video to go over. This is your last chance to kind of get as close to the regular season tempo as you possibly can. Both teams, I think, will take full advantage. So, I briefly talked about that first line, which was magnificent last year for these Winnipeg Jets. They saw a lot of tough checking from the opposition. Can they expect that and maybe a little bit more this year? You know, I I think that the the top line for every team is always the most important and that’s going to remain to be the truth here for Mark Shley, Kyle Connor, and Gabriel Balardi. I think that, you know, they’re at risk of even having to carry a little bit more here until the Jets figure out what they have in a second line. I mean, they have high hopes with Nike. Can he fill a void that Nikolai Eagles sleeves? And what will Jonathan Tase end up being for this team? So those are question marks yet to have been answered. Only time will tell that. But in the meantime, I think that Marsh line has to be way above average. They have to be superb like they were all of last year. Certainly were each player as you see with a careerhigh in points and each brings a little something different to the line. So much fun to watch. Let’s talk about Calgaryian Josh Morrisy. We know that Samberg is out long term six to eight weeks. How could that affect Josh? Well, he’s going to get more time. I mean, this is a deep team and they have a a wealth of options on the back end. But of course, with Samberg out, he’s their number three guy. He’s so so stable defensively. He’s such a big p part of their penalty kill. You can’t replace a guy like that. You do it by committee, but everything just seems to lean a little bit towards your game breakers. And I talked about the top line having to potentially pick up some slack up front. Josh Morsey’s the best defenseman in this franchise. Has been for a while. He’ll have to take up some slack in the absence of Dylan Samberg for the next six to eight weeks until he can get back healthy. So, we now bring you the line combinations and deep pairings. We highlight Logan Stanley. He’s going to get another crack at it with Neil Pock tonight. Uh today, Scott Arneil said we’re looking for a similar mix as there is with Flurry and Shen where Flurry is the mobile guy, Shen is more physical guy. It’s not written in stone and that’ll be interesting to see what that second pairing looks like next week when they take on Dallas. Let’s join the inrink audio here at the Scotia Bank Saddle Dome. In the spirit of reconciliation, we acknowledge tonight’s game will take place on the original territories of the peoples of the Treaty 7 region in southern Alberta, which includes the Blackfoot First Nation tribes of Sica, the Picani, the Genna, the Stony Nakota First Nation tribes of Chiniki, Beerspa, and Good Stony, and the Tsutsina First Nation. This territory is also home to the Otapim SAK Matei government districts 5 and six. As an organization, Calgary Sports and Entertainment is proud to continue our commitment to learn from and partner with our indigenous communities. Good evening and welcome to tonight’s game between the Winnipeg Jets and your Calgary Flames. We now ask you to please rise if you’re able. Remove your hats and join the singing voice of your Calgary Flames George Canyon accompanied by Flames organist Warren C and members of the CPKC Police Service Honor Guard in the performance of tonight’s national anthem. [Music] [Applause] [Music] Oh Canada, our home and native land. True patri love in all of us command. With glowing hearts we see the rise. A true nor strong and free from far and wide. Oh Canada we stand on God for thee. God keep our land. Glorious and free. Oh Canada, we stand on God for thee. Oh Canada, we stand on God for [Music] Thank you, George Canyon and Orange from George Canyon. George and I used to play minor hockey against each other many years ago in Picto County, Nova Scotia. Brilliant day today here in Calgary and we will bring you the starting goalenders for tonight. And Connor Halabuk is expected to go to the distance for these Winnipeg Jets as he gets set. How about this? On Friday games last season, part of those sparkling numbers, he was 8 and0 with a one and a half goals against and a 938 save percentage. Good goalender at the other end, too. Dustin Wolf, the finished second in rookie of the year voting behind Lane Hudson of the Montreal Canadians and last month signed a seven-year 52.5 million contract. So the sixth of six preseason games for Winnipeg and the eighth of eight for the Calgary Flames. And you can sense it, can you? The opening game of the season for the Jets is next Thursday. And it’s thankfully getting closer and closer as Baron will start the game at center with Nita Ryder and Ayalo. And away we go. Weer sending it in and Halabuk will knock that one down. Shoots it around the boards. The hulking winger Clapco is there. Now Shen is on it. Saskatoon native plays it off the boards and out to center. Apollo swings it to Flurry. In come the Jets crisply played behind the goal and out of the near corner by Nita Ryder. Baron looking out for it on the fore and Cadry who has set a careerhigh with 35 goals last year dumps it in. Need a rider. Flames are changing. Ayafalo heads off two. They swing it through center with Baron trying to get to that red strike. He hit Valardi with it. So the first line coming on for these Winnipeg Jets and now grabbed by Coleman. Pass behind the spinning back, but he’s able to get it. Backland, 166 regular season games, all with the Flames. Sari pushes it back to the line. Rasmus Anderson shoots and a blocker saved there by Hellar. Kevin Ball comes in back to the point. Back a low shot. Loose puck in front. Cleared by Dlo. He may have saved a goal right there. Morsy will pick it up. Moved right away to Valardi. Shley missed it. Valardi scooped it up again. Shley trying to poke it through and with the lane off side. Good chance. The best chance of the game so far for the Flames. Nothing too fancy. Ryan Husk has called for more speed through the neutral zone. He wants more compete from his team after losing 8 to1 to Vancouver and they get a good early chance in this one. Yeah, usually scores don’t mean much Kevin right in the preseason but kind of when you lay an egg like that you expect a bit of a shake up the coast to say so. They had a lot of their main guys in the lineup as well. So it was in a chance for this coaching staff in Calgary to send a message turning at the line up ahead of his life battling with McKenzie Wiger. Now Hanley, the former star and Canadian ahead. The Coronado’s got some runway. Frost crosses and takes that pass. Morgan Frost to the blue line. Set up for Jake Keane to the dot shoots and Hellbuck hangs on. Well, we’ve been through the preseason here down to the last game and Scott O’Neal talked about a lot of the things on his wish list through preseason. And that’s about getting the new guys like like Nyquisk and Caves up up to speed with their systems, evaluating your young guys. Who do you have if there’s a need with injuries? All that’s gone. It’s go time now. Although still a preseason game. This is the big boys on both sides now here. And it’s not for keeps. It’s not for real, but it is close as you can get to the last kind of dress rehearsal before it matters. There’s Parker Ford to win the draw. He spoke to us today and said he played center all the way growing up. Cole Keepy will march that out. They were actually junior teammates. He and Parker Ford and Sous City in the USL a number of years ago as correct good looking young defenseman just 19 ahead to Sherangovich and he took a bunt from Shenam. Knocked him down. Good hit by Shen. Flurry picks it up. A Calgary native. Nice skating and he’ll bring it in. Dishes it off to the corner for Pearson and Flurry heads off. Nice time up for grabs there. You would think too in that second period. Will it be Stanley? Will it be Flurry? Will Hay be in the mix with the injury too to Samberg. Dlo played all 82 games the last two seasons at center. He’ll float that in and Wolfe steers that away. Shley hops on it trying to avoid the bump of Kevin Ball. Mark Shley still with it. Centering pass. Connor just couldn’t find it in tight. The Flames are able to clear it. Farabe came over in that two for two trade from Philadelphia last year. He sends it in. Cadri set it back where it came from. Anderson low shot as he put that one wide looking for a tip. Ball. Cadri getting away from Morsy who will track him. Nice wounds by Cadri but Shley was there to help break it up. That’s a good defensive play from Shley to read that and then or Josh Morrisy is right off of his hip. No lane to the net whatsoever. Shley bringing it in. 335 gone in this opening period. Anderson will chip it up. Fairby waiting on the boards, but it’s taken away by Gabriel Valardi. Shoots right on and into the C logo of Wolf who hangs on. I mentioned a couple times already a game that Ryan Huska is going to use for a teaching moment. 8-1 to the Vancouver Conucks. And he’s saying like it’s still preseason, but we demand more. He said it was actually a bad time to break the news about his new 2-year extension. He’s extremely happy to be a part of things here and he’s kind of a unique one for me where he he’s extremely good at developing, but they were tied for the last wild card spot last year for a playoff spot as well with St. Louis. So, they’re here trying to win as well. They believe they can be a playoff team. And he talked a lot about the partnership and the relationships with players to coaches. Everybody has to be on the same page. He’s done an excellent job here so far. Yeah, they put the light late push on. They went 11, two, and three in their final 16 and almost made the playoffs. Interesting, too, that the other Alberta coach, Chris Nblock, just signed a three-year extension. So, a good day for coaches in this province. Good couple of days, I should say as it’s relayed back to center. Turning and looking for it. Zary, but it’s poked ahead by Punk. And in it goes. We former Panther. That pass ricocheted off the stick of Backland and now ahead for Zary. Little too far for him, but no icing. Three shots to two so far in the early going in favor of Calgary. Now Flurry navigates, pushes it forward and Nike couldn’t do anything with it. A diving play by Shen Flurry. 39 games last year, seven assists. And when Samberg got hurt last November, he was able to jump up and take some more ice time. Loose puck gobbled up there by Gus Nyfist. He’s on the move. Nyquist twists back to the blue line. Dillo crowd in front and that’s tipped wide. Domestic off and Perfetti were both there. Now a chip and clear attempt doesn’t go anywhere. Perfetti fires it and a right arm save there by Dustin Wolf as it goes out of play. Now we talked about the second line and and with all due respect there’s question marks around the second line. There hasn’t been any regular season action. So you’re wondering, okay, what do we have in the absence of Jonathan Taves Nomesticov elevated and the second line does a nice job countering. They get a chance. They lose the puck. And as a group of three, they work hard. There’s Cole Perfetti creating the turnover, turning one chance into two. And the question is, can Gus Nyquest get back to his 75 point performance that he had two years ago in Nashville. Not a good year last year for him or anybody else in Nashville, but it’ll be Perfetti, Nyquist, and Nomestic until Jonathan Taves can get back to feeling better. And again, TA, as we talked about at the off the top of the show, Scott O’Neal was asked about it. He said he tweaked something on Tuesday. He had already said that, but he said he’s day to day. They won’t skate tomorrow. They’ll skate Sunday and then they’ll be off Monday as well. Certainly nothing you want to rush, particularly when you’re on a long road back from a two plus year absence. So, I think it’s the right call, a little tweak, and you might as well make sure that you’re you’re good to go. Sari almost grabbed that one, but now Morsy gets another chance and Kyle Connor has it. Backlin checking on Shipley who pushed that into the zone. Valardi looking for it and it’s onto the stick of Connor Zaryi. Zary a former Cam Loops Blazer from Saskatoon through center now backland and that is off size says Travis Tumi. Well already I’m starting to see some of the things that look familiar to me. It’s hard to pick out Winnipeg Jets identity traits in preseason. It just is. There’s just too many guys that are in and out of the lineup. Scott Ernie knows that better than anybody. But through the neutral zone, when the Jets don’t have the puck, they work so darn hard to get back to their own side of their ice, allow their defense to stand up, close that gap, and that wasn’t necessarily being done earlier in preseason. They’re starting to see a little bit more of that now. Parker Ford angled off that time by Henley. Pass to Ed Lombberg. Couldn’t hang on to it for long. And now Justin Kirkland. He’ll send that anywhere. Number 23. He is from Winnipeg. bit of a late bloomer but carrying himself a roll as Peock is on it. He was one of those Cinderella stories last year for Calvary at the age of 29. He scored his first NHL goal. And by the way, he played for Ryan Huska in juniors in Colona back in the day as well. The Nashville pick originally Justin Kirkland. Puck thrown to the net. Pearson was there. Flurry faked the shot. Need a rider from a sharp angle. Wolf keeps it out. Pearson centering and that’ll exit the zone. A nice job there with some big bodies at the net. There’s Tanner Pearson. Needle Nether Rider. Nice job chuming that one. Carrick stepped in front of Nether Rider. And now the pass will end up with Perk who was such a good offensive defenseman and junior. And he’s after it again, but now it’ll be Shen. Luke Shed talked to the media today. He said, “I feel so much more comfortable now than I did after arriving in the train from Nashville.” And he said, “Obviously having a summer to get settled meant a lot.” As we wait for the game’s first goal for Reck will push it in behind the goal. Farabe Shen lost his stick. Clap centering pass. They score. Henry [Music] [Applause] as Cadry makes it one- nothing Calgary. [Music] These are some of the most difficult plays to stop for a goalender because you’re looking in your rearview mirror and the puck comes right from behind the net. So Hella, you can see looking shoulder checking and right there a little backhand pass to Cadri. And this is a beautiful one. A little bit too loose. And I talked about Winnipeg Jets hockey. This is the stuff that they’ll look to clean up where those are doors that usually typically get slammed shut. There’s no play to be had on the strong side of Helluck if the Jets are on and there’s certainly no time and space in the inner slot. Both were open and the Calgary Flames took full advantage here just about 8 minutes into the first. So Cadri with his third 30 goal season last year gets his team on the board first. And after it is Britney wears 51. He’s just 19 years old trying to make a good impression as Nomestico will send it in. Wolf to Anderson. So much talk about Anderson wanting a trade or perhaps a trade that may come this year. The pass for Frost and his backhand centering attempt was knocked down. Now Perfetti little backspin on that baby. He’ll wait. Jets are changing. He will too. Neil Pon 39 points last year. Had that terrific start. He had 17 in his first 16 games. Weer tipped it was chopped and kept in. Shley just directed that toward the net. Now we such an important player for this Flames team at center. Shley can’t pick it up. Gridy steps around Stanley. Matt Gritten right in. Ser pass and back missed one right between his skates. Now hustle the other way from Connor. Valardi following up is Shley. Took that one off the hip it appeared and he’s got it. Conor’s out front off a stick. Back pass to the point kept in by Stanley. A high drive. That puck was wobbling on him. Backlin who just missed a tap in redirected it out. Shley Flames are changing. Crafty pass. Connor put it through. Bouncing puck right on goal and Wolf is able to stop it as Cadri scores at 70 to4 here to have the game’s only goal so far. To win. It’s a chance to make a difference. He’s just 15 games shy of the thousand game mark and he gets the first one in this preseason contest. Listen, I I think he’s he’s such a great veteran type of a guy to have on a team that’s retooling, rebuilding, on the cusp of learning how to win. He’s such a competitor. Of course, he’s got a high level of skill, but great locker room guy as well. Ryan Huska has a good one on the topline centerman and Nasam Kadri. Career highs with 87 points back in 2022, but 35 goal career high that was last season for Nazum Cadre. Look at the shots. 279 shots on net and nearly 19 1/2 minutes of average ice time per game for Nazam. An excellent season on a team that was grinding and battling to try to get that last wild card spot. They came up just short, tied in points like I mentioned. St. Louis had 44 wins and the Flames had 41. Shley trying to keep it on side. Cadry now 35 years old as Connor will turn and dart into the zone. Connor takes it to the boards, takes a bump. Valardi is there. So nice to see that line intact. Connor in the slot. Couldn’t pick it up cleanly. And now Coleman will weave back. Stolen away by Valardi. Look forward to another full season of watching what he does with those hands of his. So many spectacular plays last year. Driven into the zone. Valardi last season with 27 goals and 61 points. Shen goes back forward. Only 71 games for Valardi because of injury late in the season. Long pass to center. One- nothing Calgary. Reaching back. Pearson. He’ll chug after it and beat Bean to the loose puck. Pearson gets spun around. Parker Ford for checking. That’ll be part of his calling card if he’s to stick. Stolen by Kevky. Cole Key right in shot. Rebound that’ll come back to Flurry with a drive and kicked away by Wolf. Good persistence by the fourth line of the Jets. Shen works it around. Hayden Flurry drops it. Pearson banks one on goal. Bodies everywhere. Keep the wrap around. He couldn’t stop it in. Nor could forward, but a great shift continues. Finally, the Flames will get it to center. Sharon Govich takes it and gets it into the zone. That is exactly what Scott O’Neal wants to see from his fourth line. You got some big bodies in Pearson and Kepky and a hound dog in Ford and they get more than a couple of chances. Good time spent in the offensive zone grinding away. Weaguer lost it over the head of Neil Peock. Stanley takes it, makes the pass. It’ll work its way through to Nita Ryder. Little delay as he slings it through neutral ice. Ford just got off the ice now. Just had the chance to as we near the 11 minute mark. Uh period one. Nita Ryder shoved down by Clapka. Clapka 68 235. Nita Ryder’s no small guy. Long pass to Baron at center and he is offside as Hanley stays right with him. One- nothing Flames. You’re watching Jets on TSN. [Music] Here’s an area where we may see a bit of a tweak in identity with the Winnipeg Jets. They’re fourth line. And this is a nice job from Tanner Pearson. He’s in the right place to support Key in the neutral zone. So they get access to the ozone and Ford is right there. This is template fourthline hockey. Keep reloads, strips the puck from Zay Perk, the 19-year-old defender, and they counter not once but two different times. This is excellent. The fourth line should be heavier. Pearson had 12 goals last year. Keepy had 10. They should be able to score a little bit more. I think all in all, they’ll be harder to play against. My first Here’s a chance in front. They score Bron and the 19-year-old makes it two nothing Britain the rookie of the year in the Quebec Junior Hockey League last year. 36 goals in 56 games. The kid has got some skill. 28th overall in 2024. And he’s being given an opportunity here. a youngster, but he’s got great hands, playmaking ability, and finish ability. He shows it there. Number 51 gets the second goal of the game on another breakdown here for Winnipeg. A little bit loose defensively in front of Connor Hellbuck a couple of different times and they’ve paid for it with both of them. Not sure he was expected to play tonight, but with the injuries to Posil and Uber, he gets a chance. And hey, it has to be good for the confidence to score in the reigning heart trophy winner. The twotime back-to- back three-time overall VZna winner of course start of the preseason scored by number 51. And yes, part of what they hope is a sparkling future here in Calgary. They haven’t made the playoffs since 2021-22 season clearing attempt kept in Cornado with a heavy risk shot as he fired that one blindly. Kevin Ball with the only assist on that goal. Two nothing. Frost that’ll come back to the line and stepping around ball is Perfetti. He is shoved down. They get it back. loose in front and just rolled wide by Nomesticon. That was close. Nice moves by Near Rider to the back hand. Right on. The Wolf hangs on. Well, back and forth we go and you know Nether Rider does a nice job kind of taking control of this shift after Calvary threatened to make it three nothing. A couple chances run. Here’s another look at the goal. A wise little play from Grin that just stops up a little give and go and he loses himself but gets in and behind the Jets defense and a little black backhand tricky release that was able to find the five hole of Connor Halib and mentioned 19 years old. He was an 18-year-old rookie rookie of the year in the QA QMJHL and man 36 and 56. That’s good hockey. That’s unbelievable numbers. play back to center and Shipley sent it past Zary and into the zone. Hanley Weaguer smoothly got it to Backland. That was intended for Zary, but he missed it and that is icing against the Flames with 743 left in the opening period. Well, Dan, I have to tell you the last time I was in this very building with Dave Lowry. Yes, that’s Adam Lowry’s dad. It was back in 2002. And I don’t want to tell you how much money I lost, but former player, former coach of the Calgary Hitman, and of course was in Seattle last year. There’s Dave Lowry in his first year back at his old stomping grounds here in Calgary. He’s an assistant to Ryan Husk. Should be a good fit for Dave. He wish him the best for sure. It’s played off the glass shley between a pair of flames and he just kept it away from both of them. No problem. It seemed that one off his skate. He bodies that down. Zaryi defensively there to help. Backlin will push it past Dlo who stepped up. He’s hustling back now. Connor Zary to Mackenzie Wager. It’ll bounce nicely there for Dlo and he’ll fling that to the line and that’s off Balardi out of the zone. Turning back quickly back to Coleman. Drags it. Can’t get a shot away originally and it’s picked up there by Pon. Uh Calgary’s enjoying some some open ice here. They’re freely going through the neutral zone. Break out to the neutral zone into the offensive zone. Virtually untouched, not once but twice in this last shift alone. The Jets have to find a way to tighten up. Stanley poked that away as Cadri had designs on taking that to the net. Now it is Barrett. He’ll play it in. Talked with coach Scott Neil today about Barrett and his progress as a centerman. As he’s looking for in the slot, he said he looks more confident in his own zone helping down low than getting into transition. as Clapka looking to keep it alive. That’ll rattle back out to center. Two nothing on goals from Cadri and Griden. Now driving is Dorgan Baron. Sneeze on the feet. Centering pass and a stop by Wolf. Now Shen with a shot that’s blocked. Jets have had some looks. Flurry settles that puck. Baron up high now. Buck for Flurry. Good pass. I follow knocked away. Shen pokes that to the side of the net and it’s collected by Ball. He’ll throw that down the ice and that’s going to be an icing call against the Flames. Well, good push back again. A couple of shifts in a row. Need Ryder has been very noticeable going to the front of the net and just earlier in this shift, it was Blake Coleman that gets tangled up with Dylan Dlo already without Dylan Samberg. Dlo the ice, pardon me, he goes to the locker room. It might have been from that glancing cross check up in that chin area. My money says that it won’t be long before Dylan Dlo returns to the bench. Doesn’t look like too too much. Little chin music there. We’ll hope to see his safe return. Yeah, I mentioned it off the top. There seems to been a lot of injuries pop up the last week. I don’t know if that’s out of the ordinary. It’s a physical sport, but there are injuries dotted across the league. Right here, it’s two nothing Flames over the Jets. [Music] the players. Well, give some credit to Calgary. They’ve been on their toes, but Scott Neil won’t be overly thrilled. Not just because of the score, but more of the process of of what the Jets are doing. Or maybe not. Look at how easily Calgary is able to break out of their own end. They go through the neutral zone untouched. And that is not a characteristic of the Jets. Here’s the second play in that same shift. Two passes and you’ve unlocked access to the ozone untouched once again. And so the Jets need to get on their toes heavier on the forche. Get the D closer to the forwards and play more congested. They’re just too loose right now. Neil Pon places that to the corner. Mike right onto the stick of Kirkland whose nickname is Costco as Lombberg will come in to take a bump from Punk. Separated him from the puck. Took it away but he got it back to Lombberg who’s an energetic forward. flipped the hand to center and hacked into the Flames zone with five and a half to go in the opening period. But it’s 105 now. The Jets with the edge there, but down a pair. We will double back. Weer with 47 points last season. Took that pass from Hanley. Little pressure from Ford who probably forced him into a turnover. Keepy to Pearson looking to protect along the boards. as the pileup starts together. Now that’s whacked out of the zone. These two teams will play three times in the regular season. Couple of times uh later this month and then next month and that’ll be it. Pearson centering pass finds his way to Flurry. Shot. He scores. Flurry with his zinger and the Flames lead is cut in half. It’s two to one. Dan, this is the second line or the second shift of this period where the fourth line for the Jets have dominated their matchup. It was a turnover in the neutral zone from the forche from Pier from Pearson and Keepy creates the turnover and then watch the puck as it gets to the net from Flurry. It has to go through two different forwards. There’s Parker Ford and there is Kevky once again with his heels on the top of the crease. Again, this is just textbook forceline hockey. Get the puck, shoot the puck off. smiles from Hayden Flurry and some heavy lifting from the fourth line gets rewarded just under five to go and they cut this two-goal lead in half. So Flurry was able to find it. It looked like it came close to hitting the stick of Ford, but either way it’s two to one. Jets looking to even the game here late in period number one. like the way Flurry has skated so far in this game as Anderson will backtrack and pick it up for the Flames. Rasmus Anderson 10th full season coming up with Calgary. This is Zary off the rush. He got bottled up now swinging away. Stanley will make a cross ice pass. Connor carefully into the zone. Knocked down by Zary. He’ll turn it back the other way for the Flames. Connor Zary. Stanley hustling back. Back there defense was Valardi. So Pearson and Kempky get the assists on the flurry goal at 1518. Zary has to deal with the bouncing puck. Jets making a partial change now. Fion shoved in by the much larger Clapka. Barby bumped by Flurry. That centering pass. Cadri was there but he couldn’t grab it. Dashing away is Connor. He’ll give it to a follow. Shitley back for Pian but he’s knocked down right away. Ko was right there and waiting. Pianc has seen his Philip Clapa in this shift. Clapa a big boy at 6’7 and and he’s using his frame the right way on the for check earlier locked antlers with Pian and he does it again in his own defensive zone. Now at center pian looking to deposit that one delayed offside as Clapka knocked it away and the Flames will reset. Jake Bean from Carolina first round pick. He’s from Calgary as well as being a flame. Baron looking for it. Shen had to deal with Lombberg. He’ll go back a little bit now. Punk will rip it around. I have following at center, but he missed it. And Pian won’t get off. He’s been out there for quite some time. [Music] Well, not an easy shift for Neil Pian. Heavily outmatched in size against Klafka a couple of different times. Clapka, like I mentioned, 6’7. And that’s what you do when you’re a big body. You need to use your tools. And Kla does that a couple of different times. And that’s why I think he’s slated to be a winger on the fourth line for this team where he played 31 games last year. Split his time with the Wranglers and the Calgary Flames. And certainly turning heads in this one. Flames win the draw. Handley got it back from Weaguer. Wrist shot. Scores. [Music] Joel Hanley with a shot inside the blue line and it’s 3 to1 Calgary. [Applause] Hasn’t been easy for Connor Halib. This would normally be a a lane that would be closed down not once but twice. A little DD pass and you can just see how everybody’s just a little bit late to their assignments. Three guys eventually get into the shot lane, but nobody’s in the lane on route while the puck is on route to Helluck. And I think that I’m not sure that he sees the puck fully as it gets close to him. The traffic in front was enough to fool Helabuk. And that’s one from range here. 247 to go in that two goal lead I was talking about, it’s back. So consecutive goals by defenseman first Murray and then Hanley. And the lead once again for Calgary is two. Tom Pian got there not able to get off but he knows about playing a lot. He played 46 minutes and 15 seconds in game seven against the Blues in the spring. What a herculan effort that was. What a thrilling game and series. Here is Moresy picks his way over the plane logo. Dumps it in off the stick of ball. Dessnikov is there. Back for Perfetti. Out front is Nike, but it’s intercepted by Anderson. Taken away by Domestic. Anderson played it up the boards. Morrisy with a familiar nifty move that gets through to Pian. He’ll pass that to the corner. So Pian back out with Haven’t seen Dlo since he took a shot to the chin or the throat area. Pian steps up on the play. They missed it. Gets some support from Nikist. Jets looking to keep it in. Now it comes out. Morsy misplayed it at center, but Pock will come around to help, but it Morsy grabbed his man in the game’s first power play. We’ll go to the Calgary Flames. A little bit sloppy here. So Josh Morsy has control of the puck and then it kind of sticks. So he loses control and then grabs on here. Under two minutes to go in the first period of play. And there he is. He loses it. tries to run a little bit of accidentally on purpose interference and against Coronado. A little bit of a sloppy play here all around and the jets to the penalty kill here. Ford and Kempy are the forwards. Flurry and Shen are the defenseman for the Flames. It’s Zari Clapka. You know where Clapka will go if they get the puck. Sheromeic, Anderson, and Perk on defense. And it is Perk who’s got it. He’ll walk the line. Perk to Anderson with 90 seconds to go in this first period. A good one so far for Calgary. Perk a bouncing puck kicked out of the zone by Keky. Pere last year 107 points with Sagenov. He is a defenseman. He’ll walk it in. Zaryi backhand pass to Anderson at the far side. Kla will take it. Kapa snap pass. Knocked away. Now Ford will scramble ahead. Racing to catch up is Keepy. He takes the pass. Hole. Keepy shot gets through to the goal. Sticked away by Wolf with Ford driving the net. Under a minute to go now in the first and that is offside. Zary making an extra move or two. Luke Shen makes an excellent defensive read. And it was a good stick that breaks that last play up for Calgary and quickly counter. Good read from Ford and from Kevky to counter that. And Shen advances the puck quickly on the penalty kill. The Jets get a chance. A twoon one because of that good read from number five. Hit 20 left in the penalty to Moresy as you see. So now Baron and Pearson they have a lot of options at forward. These Winnipeg Jets do of course two injured players who can figure out the penalty kill. You know Lowry will and Taves will be available. cross ice pass and getting over quickly making the save was Halabuk against Cadri. Well, that’s the play that any power play would want where you go up one side and quickly a long range pass to a one-time. You force everybody including the goalender to have to go side to side, but great anticipation Habuck. He’s sitting on this one waiting before the shot is even taken. Nice read from Helluck. Good shot from Kadri, but no chance. Flames win the face off. Cleagger fake the slap shot for a cross centering pass and that is chipped. Fabby was at the goal mouth that goes out of play. Well, you can see how tenacious this Calgary Flames team is. Far does a nice job to get inside track to the net on this one. So, the Flames go right back at to work. They win the faceoff by committee and then just watch right in that front body position. Two guys all around it. An inside track there from Barby to get that in tight shot. Farabby the 14th pick in 2018 by the Flyers. He had 22 goals, 28 assists two years ago. He fell back a little bit last year. They’re hoping he can regain his form. Of course, couple of veterans to drive. Shipley and Cadri. Shipley sweeps that back. Connor swings low to accept the pass, but puck kind of stuck there on him. Coronado will bat that. Cadri backhand pass. Didn’t get a lot on him. Watch out. Shley trying to pull away. He’s got Connor with him. Kyle Connor just missed taking that away, but he was intercepted. Flames back in. Morgan Frost couldn’t pull the trigger. Shley got a piece of his stick. 10 seconds left. Weer turning. Frost sets it up. That sent toward the goal by Cadri. Tip wide. Now time for a shot if they hurry. Cornado’s drive is blocked and a good first period for the Flames comes to a close. Yeah, they were on their toes. The Jets know that they’ve got to clean things up. A tough one for Connor Halibuck. If there was a bright spot, it would have been Parker Ford in that fourth line with the lone goal for Winnipeg in the first period. They were strong and Parker Ford will be Kevin’s guest when we come back. Cadri Hanley Gritten for the Flames. Flurry responding for the Jets. 3-1 after 20. You’re watching Jets on TSN. [Music] Same thing here in Calgary in a sparkling night. A sparkling sparkling opening 20 minutes for the home team. Four goals in total and three off the stick of Flames. Cadri with his first of the preseason. Grit again. He’s his 19, his third of the preseason. the defenseman Hanley with one and Aiden Flurry sandwiched in there with a nice goal of his own. Three to one as we head to period two. Kevin, what do you expect to see from the Jets? What do they want to do better in period 2? Well, Craig talked about netfront and I totally agree. To me, it starts more in the neutral zone where you give up less, you give up less speed because you’re in the right spots. I thought Calvary got through the neutral zone way too easy and virtually untouched. I think we’re going to see a Jets team that’s going to be a little bit more competitive, a little bit quicker with the puck, and most certainly without the puck. They need to be if they want to have a chance to get back in this. And I like what you’re saying. It’s glaring when they aren’t tight defensively through neutral ice or anywhere because we’re so used to seeing them be so solid defensively. They’ve set the bar pretty high, haven’t they? I mean, the last two years running, they’ve been the best defensive team and and everybody else in this league has been put on notice. It’s not easy to play against the Winnipeg Jets. Hey, this is still preseason and it is still, you know, time to kind of get on the same page. It’s not easy to do, but this is the first period would have been a little bit of a wakeup call in that regard. We’ll see how they respond. So, the Jets will have 11 games in 22 days in October. 11 regular season games, seven at home for the road. Then in November, they’re on the road for 13 days. They’ll play six games. That’ll be a test, but a condensed schedule for everyone this year. An Olympic season, of course. So everybody’s going to have to deal with that sort of thing in this 2025 2026 season. And the period starts in the Jets zone as chopping at it and setting it down is Shley. Jets still short-handed, but just for another 5 seconds. Oh, see Shley and Connor on the ice shorthanded. That’s a weapon for sure. Just before the first period ended, they had a chance to score. Plays with two power play shots. It’s left for Backland. Directs it through. Coleman at the side. Couldn’t get it in. Crisp pass. It’s a nice one from Shley to Flurry. He’ll ease that into the zone. Jumping on the ice is Nyquist. Knocked right back to center ice. Now Coleman hangs onto it. Blake Coleman drops it off. Ball takes that. He’ll hit after it now in the corner. Looking to center it. Sari was waiting in front. Shley had it knocked away. Long shot right on goal from the blue line from Coleman and swallowed up by Hellbuk. It’s nice for for Connor Halabuk to kind of get backto-back batch starts as well. He is a guy and it’s no secret that loves to play. He’s played 60 games or more in each of the last four years. And no surprise to see him get last game and then the plan is for him to play all 60 minutes of this game or more if required. And there is his ablebodied backup Eric Comry still have three goalenders in camp. Don Devententis is the other one. So 28 players by my count. They have to get down to 23. Cad returns and shoots. It’s blocked by Ford and he’ll take off ahead. Ford takes the pass. Keepy goes to the net. Ford can’t center it. Now he does. Right past Kevki. They’ll swing it back the other way. Clavka Cadri wanted that one and that shot a high one. I thought that was offside and that goes out of play. after talking to Parker Ford after the first period. A real humble guy, but if you get to know him a little bit off the ice, he’s humble, but he’s got a tenacity to his personality. And I think it comes out nicely in his game. Look at the way he starts at the starting line in his own zone. Blocks a shot and then his feet start to ride the bike. He gets up ice quickly. He’s the straight line player and he knows exactly who he has to be if he has a chance at all to to crack this lineup next week or if he’s going to be one of the first calls if necessary. I I really like the way he plays to an identity. He’s got a bit of a test in this game. I like it. I think it was two years ago that he had a real standout camp and people were like, “Who is this kid?” Parker Ford and he’s done fine work since then. Domestic keeps it in for Fetty and now Domestic is there in support. Kicked away by Beam. Reaching and grabbing it now is Nyquist as this line tries to get something going offensively. They get a little closer to the Flames. Picked off by Frost. Good steal by Nyquist. Paul Perfetti. The Flames can’t get it out right now. Frost gave it to Flurry with a shot and a glove save by Wolf. [Music] Well, this is a nice little push here from from this forward group with Perfetti Nyquist and they’re just working that that quadrant and it’s a nice job. They lose the puck how quickly they get above their options to reload and it doesn’t always have to be pretty as they try to sort some things out and gain a little bit of chemistry. They work extremely hard to get their chances. almost Canadian Flurry formerly with Carolina, Anaheim, Seattle, and Tampa as well as now the Winnipeg Jets. Sharon Govich racing up there. The first Bellar Russian player ever to score 30 in the National Hockey League. Did it with the Devils a couple of years ago. I follow Baron looking for it, but Longberg was there. And now Sharon Govich is back in his own zone. Three to one Flames pass to center. Kirkland a good pass to Longberg. Sharon Govich goes to the net. Here he is. And he put it wide. Nice counter by the Flames there. Morgan Baron shovels it out of harm’s way, but they’ll reload. Will these Flames as Weaguer delivers it in? Sari let it go back. Backling shot, stick save and a squeeze from Halabuk. Well, this is when you get tested, right? We talked a lot about the fourth line for the Jets, how they were arguably the best line in the first period. in the fourth line for Calgary does a nice job here as Lombberg, former Stanley Cup champion from two years ago in Florida. Does a nice job to drive the defense back and then just waits for Sharon Govich to get to the net. A little pass in tight as a pitching Dman for the Jets gets caught up ice. The two-on-one the other way and Calgary nearly takes advantage. Ryan Longberg like Gus Nyquist, former University of Maine Blackbear, they went at different times. Hot shot stopped by Halleuck and that bounces and is picked up by Backland side of the net. Helabuk made the save on Pulman. Shley poking at it. Pian will deliver it over to Logan Stanley. He’ll whip that to center. Long pass. He was looking for Valardi. Hanley who scored in that first period up ahead. Zary will scramble over the line and deliver that one to the corner. Coven to the point. Connor looking for a steal. Weaguer put it back in deep. knocked down. Coleman from his knees kept it in and that time it’s delayed offside. Good work by Coleman nonetheless. Neil Peock Valardi tipped it past Farabby now. Ball laid it to the corner. Clapka had a couple of big hits in that first period. Shovels it up ahead icing Calgary. We talked off the top about Mark Shley and the top line for the Winnipeg Jetson. This is nothing new for them. Is there pressure on them? There always is. Listen, don’t forget before the Valardi injury last year, this trio with Connor, Valardi, and Shipley were the highest scoring line in all of the NHL for nearly the entire season. What a great job they did last year. And it to me it’s it’s because they have a lot of everything. The IQ and the playmaking ability from Mark, of course, the finishing ability from Kyle, and then the net front presence, the wall work from Gabriel Valardi, of course, his playmaking ability as well. They are a hard threesome to shut down. Valardi ressigning in the offseason. 6 years 45 million. When will Kyle Connor will Connor resign? We’ll save that for later days, but still an interesting topic as the plot. Hey Dan, you’re sterning already. It’s a little quiet Kevin, so we might as well. The pass for Nestikov. He got spun around trying to play it. Things opening up now. Here comes Cadry. Clapka racing to the net. Nasam Cadry tees it up. Gets it back. Scores. Cadry with his second. It’s four to one Calgary. [Applause] So the breakdown you would think is defensively it it’s not. It’s offensively and that is not what the Jets do. So you don’t make a play in the net. You try to feather a little powder pass on the back hand and now you’ve got your teammates in attack mode and what are the other team doing? Well, they’re coming right back at you and you’re caught. You’ve got your Dman up the ice. You got Gus Nyquist back with Hayden Flurry and you’re guessing. It’s a beautiful tic-tac-toe play from the Calvary Flames. Give them credit, but it was made way too easy because the Jets didn’t decide to do one thing. Shoot the pocket. Flames up 4-1. That is icing against the Jets. Yeah. So, you break down in the offensive zone and you usually pay for it 150 ft away. And there’s that little pass attempt. And now you got three guys caught deep in the offensive zone. And this is just making it easy on the other team. Look at that time and space with Harlem Globe Trotter stuff. A give and go. And Cadri gets his second of the game. It’s all about making the right decision. The Jets didn’t do it in either zone. So Winnipeg in a hole. Shen can’t get it out. Sharon Govin shot it as he just grabbed that loose puck. Bean tried to force the issue. Shen Peock have not seen Dylan Delo in this second period. Was hurt late in the first. Keep driving net drive for he got a piece of it and it flies up and out of play. Maybe went off the stick of Jake Bean. so critical and and it’s because it wasn’t a good play. But you have to be fair as well with co with Cole Perfetti and and Nyquist and now it’s the first time those three have ever been together and and you’re trying to figure out, okay, how’s this going to work? I I need to get the puck into the hands of my linemates and it’s not an easy thing to do. Two days ago, you think you’re playing with Jonathan Taves. Now you got Nestikov up. A lot of adjusting going on, a lot of adapting going on. pull profetti better than anybody knows that wasn’t the right play. Peter Ryder took it off the boards. Tried to give it back to Baron. He’ll keep it in. Four goals for the Flames. Four points by defenseman. Ball with a pair of assists. A goal from Hadley and an assist from Mackenzie Wager. Now Coronado driving it. Shooting. Toe save by Halabuk. Ridden back to the point. He has a goal here tonight. We send it around Joel Handley. Short pass. Gridden knocked that one in behind the goal. Now Stanley knocked it loose. Near Rider took his pass and he’ll wait for Griden to go by. Jets need a a spark here. Stanley swings it ahead with both teams changing. Morsy dumps one into the zone. Morsy last year 62 points, his third straight 60point season. Second most goals in the season. He had 14. Turning is Flurry. Backland toe. Flurry will shovel that around. Ball aggressively went after it. Now he’s behind the goal. Knocked loose. Coleman leaned into Peock. Kevin Ball back shot. He put that one 3 ft wide. Anderson centering pass that’ll end up on the stick of Shipley. Scurrying up. To his left is Connor on the right. Valardi. Kyle Connor turns the corner. Connor trying to shortside that shot and that was denied. Looked like Wol got a stick on it. Back toward the line. Pass M B M B M B M B M B M B M B M B M B M B Moresy that’ll slide down. That’s great speed from Kyle Connor here. All three lanes are filled on this last entry. The right-handed centerman from Shely. Easily puts this into Kyle Connor. I can hear him calling for the puck. He wants it right around there. And Shley easily gets it into his hands. Turns the corner and tries to beat Wolfe on the short side upstairs. Good little push back here. Not a whole lot going on offensively for the Jets and the top line pushes to try to get another one. Connor seventh in the league in scoring last year with 97 points. Played 20 minutes 24 seconds per game. Superior numbers for Kyle Connor across the board. It’s hard to believe for me some in some ways that it’s his 10th season in the NHL and that has gone by in a blink. 47 goals career high for him a few years ago. Of course, Shen hammers a blocker save rebound. They score. Nyquist right on the goal mount and it’s four to two. Yeah, that that’s a little bit more like it where it’s just simplicity in the game. Win a face off, shoot a puck and go to the net. And this is a shot from Shen and a rebound from Wolfe. I believe it goes off with a shin pad from Nyquist who’s got his toes pointing right to the net. Look at the way that he wins that battle against Kevin Ball. much bigger in size, but a shifty little spin move from Nyquist right here. Both take him one way, spin the other way, and that opens up his stick. A rebound into the back of the net. Excellent job from the veteran here. And again, back to a twogoal lead. And you’ll hear Scott Arneal, for example, talk a lot about Nikovis IQ. And we saw a little bit of it there. Real veteran move for sure. Nike, the veteran of 863 regular season games. getting set of course for his first year with these Jets. Ford couldn’t grab it. Keepy was waiting and he’ll kick it into gear. Keepy from Two Harbors, Minnesota gets some support. Pearson gave it to him behind the net. Keepy back to Morrisy. Had to play it on his backhand. Directs it cross ice. 42 Flames. Logan Stanley playing the right side. Banked it. Wolin had a close eye on that one. Now Keepy is surrounded. Bean steered it ahead and Lombberg gave it away. Stanley kept it in. Ford will allow that to go behind the net. Pearson heading off just on the ice is that man I follow. And now finally Kirkland will zip that ahead and Lombberg will turn. Ryan Lombberg waiting for support. Car with a shot blocked. I follow. He’s got men up ahead if he can act quickly. Baron took the pass. He’ll take it into the zone. Nice angle there by Hanley who stepped in front. Baron keeps it alive. Maya follows pass just served right back by Hanley. Now the Jets need a runner. Shoots it through a crowd. Faraby cuts to the corner moves it ahead. Yeah, the Jets are starting to straighten their game out here. Simplifying where it’s just get the puck DTO D shot with traffic. Baron centering pass looking to get free penalty coming up. Winnipeg will have its first power play of the night. Flurry with helluck going to the bench. Need a rider to Morgan. Bar and shot that one off a stick of Hanley and out of play. But fine work done by the Jets and because of it when we come back they will be a man to the good. They’re down two here in Calgary. [Music] Shley the game winner in overtime. [Music] Well, it’s the Jets first power play in this game and it was well earned. The fourth line comes out and grinds away and spends most of their time in the offensive zone. They hand the shift off the Jets third line and they go out and earn that a hooking call. I mentioned the first power play of the game for Winnipeg. See if they can close the gap here. And the first unit is out there. Shley, Connor, Valardi, Perfetti, and Josh Moresy. They’ll have to try and get the puck back though as Anderson will shoot that all the way down. Coleman and back the former penalty killers on Anderson and ball for Calgary. A power play goal would make things a little more interesting here in Calgary as Morrisy weaves back as they look to get in sync. The far blue line is Perfetti. He’ll come back now. This is Shipley crossing and grabbing it. Connor now they get in. Knocked away by Anderson. Morsy was waiting to Cole Perfetti finds Moresy and gets on the move to the front of the net. Shley Valardi gives it back. Morsy Connor has to play it quickly with ball there. Connor twisting. Kyle Connor for Coleman just got a stick on it to break it up. Speeding up the ice is Anderson. This is Blake Coleman passed up down. Great play there by Morrisy. And he’ll jump on it again. Moresy to Shley. They’ll come into the zone. He look to slow things down. There’s Connor with a shot. A blocker save by Wolf. Gabriel Valardi. Now Connor gets it back from Perfetti at the side of the net. He’s done it again. Sets it up. Shot. Rebound. Shut in to grab that on the backand. Valardi took the original drive. There’s Peon with 35 left on the power play. Connor twists it down to Perfetti. He finds Peock with a shot. Didn’t get a lot on it. Stopped by Wolf. Uh that’s a nice option right there from Cole Perfetti who’s tight on that strong side post and he finds Peon on the weak side. That’s a deceptive little play and it forces the goalender to have to respect the shot first off. Here it is. And then that’s a nice execution pass. Pon gets the shot that he wants. A nice job from Wolf to track that puck all the way to the other side of the ice. come up to save and look at that. No rebound. It’ll be fun to watch Perfetti on that first power play unit this year as the Jets win the puck battle. Punk has it. He’s got Nestlikov to his left and he gave it back to Neil Pock. Pian from Nikmis who just scored for the Jets. Ayafalo. It springs away. Sharon go after him but it’s back to Nyquist down low. Ayafal trying to cram that one in. Penalty just about over. They don’t score, but a good look at power play. Three shots on it. The best sprinting it off and Hanley is on the ice. The Jets 0 for one tonight on the power play. Now Hanley Sharon Govich goes to the line and gets in after it. Luke Shenu had an assist on the Nyquist goal and Nikmis will delay and saucer ahead. Clapka for now for Winnipeg just elects to play it off the boards and out. Jets goals tonight scored by Flurry and Nikfist. Keepy tries to cause problems for the Flames. Now Handy will come through center. Take that pass. At least had a strong effort tonight. Clapka is hit by Ford. The much smaller forward leaned into him now at the line. Farby just kept it alive. Clapka working against Ford. Penalty coming up to Winnipeg. Clapka threw it down the ice. Wolf to the bench for the extra attacker and Shen wants a piece of Clapka here perhaps that breaks up quickly. So a delay penalty now. Frost through center. Looking nice here as he skates it in and sent it back out to the neutral zone inadvertently. Six skaters on and the Flames in no hurry. Yeah, this is some real bonus time with the goalender out. Delayed penalty. Finally touched by a Jet. So, the Flames will have their second power play when we come back. Luke Shen guilty party for two or less and it was a roughing called net front. Look right in front of the net in front of Hellbuck. That’s Nazam Kadri. And there’s a shot right to the face area of Nazam Kadri left side of your screen. Here’s another look at it as forward is boxing out. Shen does a little damage up in the facial area of Nazam and the Flames up by two goals. Go to the power play once again. travel. So they had two shots in their first power play. Stanley and Peon are the defenseman up front. Keepy and Shley right now. Keepy breaks it up. Can he get it out? He can. Sweet McGlad with Shley and it’s blown dead. Well, that’s somebody we’re going to see a lot of, I believe, on the penalty kill. He’s shown extremely well in my opinion through this preseason in practices and in games. And arguably tonight so far has been the best showing so far from the former Boston Bruin. He’s just played big. He’s played straight and useful five on five clearly and on the penalty kill. He’s is a big body. Knows how to use it. Well, the Jets want to be a little little tougher to play against this year. Maybe KKY can help to that end. Frost for Waguer. Flames power play. Cadri gave it back. Tipped right on goal by Coronado. And Stanley didn’t like that he chopped at Helluck. So they will shove. And the much larger Stanley right in there. Now Cadri gets in. He’s grabbed onto by Keepy. Stanley did not like that work from Coronado. Yeah, it was a tricky little slap pass. It’s a redirect in tight and after the save from Hlebuck a little bit of a slash and there it is the little push after and Logan Stanley trying to punish that’s inside track once again though on the power play a redirect tip from Kadri into Coronado and then little extra for the whistle. So, a minute 33 left in the penalty to Shin Logan Stanley getting set for his sixth year with the the Jets now. He’s 26 years old. [Music] A scramble for it off the draw. Pearson looking for it against Fabby and he just gets it off the stick of Waguer and down it goes. Wager takes it from Wolf. Bothered by Pearson. He’ll move it back. Morgan Frost through center. His dad Andy was the one time PA voice at Leaf’s games and a great one at that. Moresy J the Jet shortanded Morrisy with some nice work but he lost it. He’ll get back quickly. Pon put it out. Jets down a pair. Back in come the Flames. Farabe finding Cad. He’s got two tonight. Weer moved it right away for Anderson. Cross is in the corner. That’s knocked away by Pock. Now a chance for Morrisy and he’ll just take the easy route and shoot it down. Nice job from Josh Morrisy. Full value on that penalty kill where he’s pushing for offense. Never taking his eye off of the most important thing and that’s defensively he clears the puck. Half a minute left of the penalty to Shen. Dished in by Weaguer. He’ll get off. Stanley looking for Ford in the corner. Sharon Govich is angled off. Zaryi sends it to the near boards and fired down by Hayden Flurry. Connor forcing Wol’s hand. Moved to center and Zary looking for a place to go. He got it through to Sharon Govich. Claptona interrupted there by Connor. Clapka will get it back but he gave it away to Stanley. Forb wants it and he knocks it down. Parker Forb with a shot looking to get it back as it was blocked. One shot on that power play from Calgary. 640 left in the second. Dan Robertson and Kevin Sawyer with you here tonight in Calgary. Shot by Klepka, stopped and held by Connor Hel. I mentioned six days off between now and the regular season after tonight’s game. And depending on how this game shakes out, there’s going to be a lot of things for Scott O’Neal to to look at and work at. And listen, it’s not always the worst thing for you to have an average game at best before you start the regular season. It sometimes can send a a shot over the bow, right? We got to make sure we’re ready to go when it’s time to play for real. I think the Jets, though, have been slowly getting better in this game. some of the things that they are typically used to doing. We’re starting to see a bit more of also told me today they’ll he has a list of things to do. Of course, things like five on threes from from both sides offensively and defensively and power play and that sort of thing. So, they’re ready to go for practice when it resumes again as Valardi’s at center. Now, Pon cranks that in. It may have gone off the stick of Coleman Wolf threw that around. Shen steps up, keeps it in. Luke Shen short pass to Valardi. Shley shoots and that is blocked. Shley was ready and loaded in the slot area. Flames clear the puck. Well, Sh was looking for the top corner. My sightelines. He didn’t miss it by very much. Nice little play and tight. Valardi fine pass. Flurry drags and drives high. Flurry had a lot of smoke on that thing. Kirkland looking to keep it away from Valardi and is able to get it ahead. But the Jets will bring it right back in with Shley going to the net. Valardi. Shley in. stopped by Wolf and he’s able to squeeze it with Nyquis coming along. Pace picking up in Calgary. Jets still trails by a pair. [Music] Well, as we all know that have been in the hockey world that it is a very small world. Of course, Ryan Huska, head coach of the Calgary Flames, fresh off of a two-year extension and his one of his assistant coach that’s Trent Cole. Ryan Huska and Trent Col were teammates in Springfield in the American League back in 1999. I was on that team. The three of us played together. And this goes to show you when you earn trust from people, it’s not easily forgotten. Trent Cole never played in the NHL. He was the head coach of the Wranglers last year before coming up as an interimm assistant, but he was a trustworthy player in the American League. Ryan Huskin never forgot that. And they’re reunited once again. Great stuff. Cornett will put that in. a longtime Ontario Hockey League player. Tried to call back in his junior days in Owens Sound of Windsor and Kingston and did the certainly did the circuit in the American League. Domestic and he couldn’t get as much of it as he wanted to being pinned there now. Perfetti wanting that puck. He is angled off by Frost who threw it to the point. Luke Shen shot. You can see Perfetti hustled to the front of the net and it’s blockered out of play. Uh Luke Shen has done a nice job just keeping things real simple. That’s a big part of who he is, right? Heavy on the body, punish in the front of the net and in the corners and he gets an opportunity in the offensive zone and you’re going to find him shooting the puck nine times out of 10 and he has done that a few different times. has an assist in the game from doing that and another good shot from him that turned into a another opportunity for Winnipeg. Baron with I follow and Nita Ryder in that strong face off pushed the puck all the way out of the Flame zone. Nita Ryder banged it back. Baron with a cutback move. He’ll go in. Nita Ryder will handle it. Wol chucked it by following the side of the net. Maybe trying to bank it in on Wolfe, but he was ready for it. I’ve been really impressed with the third and fourth line here from Winnipeg in a game that hasn’t been perfect by any means for Winnipeg. They’ve ground away and they’ve drawn penalties. They’ve got momentum back and Scott Arneal is deploying them back to back often and they’re a lot to handle. There’s Morgan Baron who’s typically found on the wing on the fourth line. Had some time last year at the fourth line center position and centering the third line here. I think there’s high hopes in the organization for Morgan to take a step perhaps at center on the fourth line or maybe even on the wing on the third line once Adam Lowry is healthy if there’s a need. And the Jets are operating with five defenseman now. They have been since late in the second when Dylan Devel was hurt. That’s a an icing call against the Flame. I didn’t think it looked like very much and I I’ll stand corrected. Apologies to Dylan Devel. Looked like he may have just got a cross check on the chin. I thought maybe a couple of stitches, but I I think after looking at it again, it was a cross check to the throat and those are always extremely dangerous cuz that can of course affect your breathing. So I think everything I’m hearing is just precautionary, but nonetheless, our thoughts to Dylan. No penalty on the play. Punk threw it to the glove of Wolf. Deon Culie is the backup tonight as Wolf makes that save. Dan, you mentioned it earlier where the Jets will have an off day tomorrow and then again on Monday. And that’s going to be important to make sure that you go into the regular season rested. And not to mention, these guys are tired of of practicing, right? The big boys have played now their second preseason game. Couple of days off and then you certainly will go to work on some system stuff and make sure that they hit the regular season running. Long day today for two. They skated at the Hockey for All Center at 10 and then flew here ready to play the Flames. That’s the way it is for road teams uh in the exhibition season. Of course, as Punk will snap it ahead to Josh Morrisy finds Shley easing into the zone. Connor looking just under the reach of Shley now. He’ll knock it off the backboards. Valardi in tight. Wager has a little bit of room now and he’ll float that one down. Paw at by Flurry. Sharon Govich looking for it. Flames changing quickly. Sharon Govich on the back check. 338 left in the second period. An opening for Sharon Govich into the zone. Shot off the stick of Flurry. And it goes over the glass. Sharon Govich who’s going to be relied upon to add some offense to this team for sure on that top line wing. [Music] A lot of times he’ll be playing with Nasam Kadri. He’s got a great skill set. No doubt. He was traded back in 2023 for Tyler Trafoi. Careerhigh 31 goals back in 2024. That was here with the Calgary Flames. Dipped last year and they’ll hope for him to get back to form. Of the teams that have missed the playoffs the last three seasons, Calgary is the only team with 90 plus points twice. So it hasn’t all been gloom and doom. We talked about it earlier. They put that late press on last year. It was exciting times in Calgary, but just couldn’t squeak past St. Louis. And we know how hot St. Louis was down the stretch. Jets got to beat them in the first round. It’s directed all the way down to Wolf and he casually gives it to Anderson. Leaned on by Nether Rider. Near Rider’s got it in front. I follow in the slot. Baron shot and that’s blocked there by Ball. Jets get the puck back. Logan Stanley pulls it off the boards. Couldn’t get it crisply through to Baron who’s tackled with Sheridovic. Stanley stepped up to keep it in. He’ll have to hustle back, but it’s going to be icing anyway with 253 left. Well, a lot happening in this shift and once again third line and they’re going to work. It’s going to be a penalty to Morgan Baron as he loses a body position just a little bit and he reaches fire holding the stick. He’s going to be holding a stick penalty to Morgan Baron. And this is at the end of a extremely good ship with this third line. But you can see Morgan there. He loses body position. And there’s he’s holding on to the arm holding the stick. Flames back to the power play. Good third line shift though. Prior to that they sealed the wall. Got a chance out of the corner and a opportunity to score earlier. Third power play for Calgary. Frost is kicked out, he’ll argue. That’s linesman Travis Tumi Farby to draw against Ford. He had a good night at the dot against Minnesota on Tuesday and he wins that one. Never bad to have a right shot center who can win some draws too. That’s thrown to the front and relayed back. Farabby and the Flames will get organized now if they can. Waguer takes a long look and Cadri will give it back to McKenzie Waguer. Shot blocked by Shen. It broke his stick. So just down to three and a half skaters if you will. Ford couldn’t grasp that puck. Morris he does. He’ll reverse it for Ford who gave a stick to Shen. They both shoot right. So that’s one good thing. Back to the blue line. Wager just kept that one in. Ford did a little drive by without a stick. Wigger to Cadry delays sent it down to Frost and got it back. Nam Cadry tease it up. Shot by Coronado. Stopped by Hella [Applause] Shin. Little push there on Farabby. Oh, you mentioned a right-handed centerman in Parker for his face offs after he wins this one. They’ve been outstanding in preeason. Six and one against Minnesota, 5-3 the last time he played against Calgary and 8-1 against Edmonton. That’s a total of 19 for 24, which is just under 80% success rate coming into this game. Loses the stick. He hands it off and does a nice job just using his feet to buy time, keep the puck into safe space. He’s shown well. Cadry directed that one wide and maybe, you know, if you’re something you can really work on and add that to your arsenal as it slid through to the front of the net and Stanley will turn and that was partially blocked so they couldn’t clear it. Weer Cornado centering pass knocked away by Peon Frost reaching in shley. Cadry waited maybe too long. Pearson got on him but he got it back for Waguer. Morgan Frost drags it shot off a couple of sticks. That’s off the blade of Stanley. 34 left in the Baron Miner. Minute 25 to go in the second. Look how calm Waguer is at the blue line. He’s always been that way. Frost off the stick of Shipley. Back to Wiger, but it went between his skates. Pian stepped ahead now. Coronado Cadry for the hattick. Stopped by Hell. Now racing back the other way. Pian slows down and he’ll send it in and get off. Oh, how about the athleticism from Helluck right there. That’s a break down and he has to go post to post and just acrobatically finds a way to get in front of that one from Cadrick Shen with his own stick now. Out of the box is Baron. Two shots by the Flames on their power play. Baron stays strong. Good pass through to Flurry. Nice move. Hayden Flurry walked in. He couldn’t follow up on it. Nice play all around there. That would have been one to remember for Flurry. He’s been excellent in this game so far. Skated extremely well. Jumping up at the right times. That’s one of them. Always good to score a goal in your hometown if you can. 25 left in the period. Flipped ahead there by Kevin Ball. Former Arizona pick once in a train for Taylor Hall. Bad play there by Shen. That shot is blocked as it was kept in by Britain. Now back near the line. Connor with under 10 to go. He’ll elect to just play that one in. Ball back for it. So Connor throws it ahead. Here’s a chance at the buzzer. Wouldn’t have counted. Barrett got the shot away and we get through 40 minutes. 4 to2 Calgary. An exclamation point on that second period is a no look behind the back pass from Morris. He finds Baron but just slightly ran out of time. A goal from Nyquist to make it four to2 after 40 minutes. So Cadri and Nyquis with the goals in the second period. Cole Ke trying to make his mark as a Winnipeg Jen. He will join Kevin Sawyer when we come back. It’s a two-goal lead for the Flames over Winnipeg through two periods of play. tell you about in that second period of play between the Flames and the Jets. Stazzy would make it 4 to one and then it was Nyquis making it 4-2 with his first of the preseason. You see the shots through two periods of play 24/19 in favor of the Jets. And we’ll start the third period with five skaters aside. [Music] Flames get control and Hanley will rip that around. There’s Stanley paired with Peock right now trying to find it in traffic. Flames come up with it. Sharp angle shot. Helle made both the saves. Shley Connor takes his pass. He’s working against Weaguer who would not give into that move as it’s knocked right back into the zone. Hallelib leaves it. You can see some forcheing by Bland the captain. He debuted in the 0809 season. He’s now 36 years old. Stanley will reset. Send it back for Neil Punk. Teams are changing now. So Punk will let that happen. Baron Ayafalo and Nita Rider are the forwards now for Winnipeg. Peock gain center. Flings it in. Ball set it around. Clap waiting. He tipped it but it went right to Morgan Baron. Morrisy shot sticks a rebound and I follow was in the right spot but he couldn’t get clean possession of it. Clapka extra move. Cry’s offside by 11 ft. Well the Jets already without Dylan Dlo. Cole Perfetti hasn’t returned to the bench after the second intermission and so down a couple of men, one forward and one defenseman. And this was his last shift here in the second period is on the four check and came to a stop suddenly. Nothing too egregious there. No word yet on Cole, but the Jets down by two men here. And you just hope, as you do see, and you alluded to this earlier, that you don’t want to take any chances this time of the season. So maybe better to be cautious. So that’ll be icing. Yeah, that’s right. And it’s the wise thing to do for Scott Arneil and his coaching staff. If you got a tweak, Jonathan Taves has a tweak. They’re going to air on the side of caution. There’s no chance or no reason to take chances this time of the year. You’ve got six days before you play for real. So cautious are the Jets when it comes to these little things. What are you feeling? What are these guys going through? You go through training camp. Obviously, there’s still some to go, but as the preseason wraps up and Moresy will send that through. We’ll follow up on that in a minute, but we’ve got a penalty coming up here. Maybe a delay of game penalty here. Not sure exactly. The Sharon Govich stick goes sliding across the ice. Winnipeg number 14 minor penalty interference. Get another look at this one here. Right off of the face off the Okay, there it is. It’s Gus Nyquist. I thought it was going against the Calgary Flames. Nyquist wins the face off and does the chicken wing on the stick. Rips it out of the hands of Sherikovich. That’s why the stick slid and thanks to the power play. Flames with five shots on the power play. They move it quickly. Cadre’s got a pair of goals. That’s stopped and held by Hellbuck. Just to finish that thought, Kevin, what are players going through? You’re six days away. It’s almost like Christmas Eve, I guess, as you’re getting ready for the regular season. Yeah, you know, excitement for sure, but yet like you got to remember too, a lot of the core of this team has now just played in their second game in the preseason. That’s not very much in my opinion, and that’s going to be normal now. Next year we go down to four preseason games. And so I I just think that there’s a sense of excitement for sure, but I think maybe more urgency to kind of get your game right, get it to where it needs to be for when you start earning points. Frost took the pass, sends it across ice. He got it through. Blocked there. Nice play by Flurry and Baron. Shoot it off the stick of Weaguer and into the Jets bench just past Eric Coy. It may be preseason, but he has still played the game the right way. And we highlighted Kaden Flurry in the second intermission. That’ll be his fourth block of this game offensively, goal, defensively. He’s been doing things like that and paying the price for it on the penalty kill. Makes himself big and shags that one down. Signed the two-year extension in June. And yes, that’s tell by the look at his face. That’s a stinger. He’s not smiling. Smile when he scored the goal earlier. Frost will turn back. And now Waguer will send it back to Morgan Frost gaining neutral ice. He’ll knife his way through. Farabe, his former Flyer teammate. Worked it brick wide. Waguer to Cadri. Just flipped it past the stick of Ford. Wager shot. Tipped in front. Hellbuck stops it. Faraby was knocked down to the blue paint by Shen. Reaching is Pearson. He does well to bounce that one down. A nice job. Second effort from Tanner Pearson to clear that. But the Calgary Flames do an excellent job. That was precision on the entry. Couple nice little passes and boom, they get into the offensive zone. Weer for Zary standing at the line there. And he’ll turn and drill that the rest of the way with a little more than half of the penalty. Nyqu is gone. 240 gone in the third. Perk Sharon Govich. You know Perk will be running that power play for years to come once he makes the team for good. Anderson Perek moved it. Crafty pass. There’s a shot stick save and within front was able to turn that away. Clearing a tip and the Jets get it down. They’ll make another change now. Yeah, to your point on Zane Faraka, you can just see the calm, the poise. That is just not normal for a 19-year-old defenseman in this league. He’s very calm, making the right decision. He’s extremely talented. What a what a grab the Flames got in him two years ago in the first round. Ninth overall from Sagenov. Mike was ready to get back on the ice. So Jets are perfect on the penalty kill. Flames had three shots in that power play. Now I follow scoops it past Bean who leaned into him. Ball is back. This is Flurry playing a bouncing puck. Ball didn’t play that so cleanly. Knocked down low. Nyquist. Good pass. They set it up and Ayafalo scores. What a feed from Gus Nyquist. And it’s a onegoal game. Yeah, that’s excellent vision and playmaking ability from Gus Nyquist. A behind the back pass. So you think that there’s nothing there and just a wy veteran move as he grabs this puck. A little cycle and a pinch from Nomesticov right there. That’s just brilliant out to a nice job from Al to recognize, okay, this could be a play. A lot of guys would have probably gone to the other side of the net and wanted it and he got it. That’s fancy work on the back hand from Nyquist with a goal now and assist and the Jets once again are back within one. I have followed 15 goals last year and bangs that one in. So we’ll see if that will help push them a little further here against these Calgary Flames. Nymus and Nestikov with the assist. Aalo with the goal. Four to three. This is Bean. The light bump from Kei Flame. Sharon Govich pinned in there by Pon who just slides it over Morris. He has to act quickly but for poor checking by Calgary reaching his Pearson against ball and he’s able to chip that out. Back in it goes. Both teams get some fresh bodies over the boards. Four and a half into the third. Scott Arnell on the Winnipeg Jets bench is yelling and rightfully so. That should have been icing. Referees thought it was still a power play situation. They missed one there. Homeman Desari backlin played it off the end boards, but it’ll bounce right to Shen. He looked for Valardi, but he couldn’t secure it. So, a defensive zone faceoff coming from Winnipeg. That was such a a nice goal from that Nyquist Nomesticov trio out on the ice together. Shaking things up here a little bit from Scott O’Reill. I follow. We’ve talked about him so much and how valuable he has been along with that man. Neomesticov none of that happens. Leading that goal if doesn’t pinch down the strong wall to keep the puck alive. Old handley could not keep that in. Coven it past Shipley. Sorry coming. So pretty good pass there for the goalender. Hallelib. Tangled up is Valardi stepping up his flurry. He limp forward. He’ll get it out. gets back up and probably looking for a penalty that time. Shley strong on Cadri, but Shley’s going to go to the box for that. You would have thought that maybe those ones would have canceled each other out earlier. It was Hayden Flurry that thought that he should have earned a a power play from a trip and then Shipley probably arguing no call one way should be no call the other. And there’s the call. You can see how Cadri is a veteran player too. He sees the stick coming and how easily he went down. Watch here again as oh and that’s just a no-go zone. It’s not forgiven very easily if that stick gets under the arms and Cry earns another power. We saw earlier in the game when Cry took a stick to the chin area and the reaction from him. Yes, he’s it’s not his first rodeo. He’s got a pair of goals tonight. And the Flames trying to get their two goal lead back. Be part Cadri couldn’t keep it in. So it is offside just 6 seconds into the minor of stifling 13th overall last year. The penalty kill for the Winnipeg Jets. Much improved last year along with the power play as well. They’ve had some practice tonight down a man on the penalty kill. Flames send it in. Flurry shovels it back. Takes an odd hop and Ford looking for it. And now Keepy will drift that the rest of the way. Weer directing Wol. Didn’t really work, but in the end it’s okay for the Flames. Weer will slowly move ahead, picking his way toward the center ice area. Frost following up. Nice entry by the Flames. Coronado for Frost, but he missed it. He was unmarked in front of the Jets. Goal that hit the official and skipped toward the front. Parsy will slam that around the boards and down. [Applause] That last goal I have followed from Nyquist and Domestikov at 347. Correct. Sharon Govich. Good reach by Pearson to deny entry. Tanner Pearson last year 12 goals 27 points with Vegas. Sherangovich checked by Peock. Cut off by Stanley. He’ll send it high and out. Well, good work on the penalty here. Kill here for the Jets. They haven’t given up very much either unit. Zary over that flaming C. Works his way in. Anderson slams it around and bounces off the stick and correct. He and Gritten both first round picks in 2024 of the Flames. Perk gives it to him. Mattv Griden has a goal here this evening followed by Nomestikov behind the goal. Zary gave it back. Centering pass for Sharon Govich. Knocked away and cleared by Kyle Connor. Gen tries to make a quick little pass from behind the net and nearly connects there. That’s a tough one in tight. Flames came close. Bean hustling through center. No shots on that Flames man advantage. Cut off now by Stanley who’s right back out there. Gets spun off balance. Coleman took it away. Lombberg point pass. Ball risks it through. Easily steered away by the blocker of Helle. Stanley Lombberg checked it but he made the pass first. Backhanded out by Shley. Beer rider looking for it. Bean for ball. Kicked at at center by Shipley who was in the box just a moment ago. Mlin following him so he’ll work it back. Morsy took the pass and he gets to the line and a sea of red. Morsy gets through. Josh Moresy to the goal. He lost the handle at the last minute. Valardi was there looking to clean it up. Morsy with some deceptive moves to take it right in. Valardi working the end boards as he does so well. Shley Eater Rider also there. He’ll go to the net looking for a redirect and that’s punched out of play by Wolf Morrisy with a daring rush. Came pretty close to tying it here in Calgary. It’s time for the kids to join the squad. Introducing the Jets Kids Club. The ultimate fan experience for young hockey fans. Open to kids 12 and under. Spots are limited. Sign up today and make this season the most memorable yet. Well, these Jets fans here in Calgary hoping their favorite team has one more goal up its sleeve. Bag of popcorn. It’s a Friday night hanging out here at the ring wearing the Jets colors. There’s the young kid in the sea of red. 4-3 Flames with the lead. They have trail tonight. [Music] Ford will push that ahead and now Wager who’s been strong tonight. Moved it around. Club back in by Neil Pon. Punk now 30 years old. Seventh year upcoming with the Winnipeg Jets. Paraby will lash that in on the backhand. Centering pass. Pon right where he should be. Short pass for Moresy. Ford looking to settle it. He got it to Keepy. Uses nice his size nicely. He barged in. He hit the side on them with it. Some nifty work there by Cole Kempy. Puck wouldn’t leave him alone on that rush. Really liked his interview, Kevin. He seems like an interesting young guy to talk to. Yeah, really humble. I get the sense he’s extremely happy to be here. Mentioned 10 goals with Boston last year. I think he’s going to fit in perfectly with this identity here in Winnipeg. Well, if you play University of Minnesota Duth, chances are you’ll be a good Winnipeg Jet. as Nike gives it back to the blue line. Now Ayafalo scored the Jets third goal. Played it into the corner. Work for Nikist. Did not get through. Jets get it back. Nasticov Shin to Flurry. Snapshot low. Rebound is cleared right onto the stick. A ball. The Flames will get it out. No icing as Flurry charges back after it almost halfway through the third. Here comes Nomesticov. Picks his way in. Shoots it off the inboards. Trying to be first on the scene. Went down. Luckily got right back up. Coronado wanted to barge his way through. Nyquist driven back by Frost. Nyquist through a pair of flames. Keeps it. Nice work. Gave it to Mark Shley. Shley right in and he’s going to draw a penalty. Nice move by Shley. Play still goes. Valardi shot that’s blocked and the Jets will have a power play and try and tie this game when we come back. Keepy looked good. Then Shley is hauled down as the Jets trail by one. Had your tickets to the next game yet? Be part of the home crowd. Grab your tickets and we’ll see you next game. Zane Pereck, the 19-year-old offensive defenseman, takes a tripping call against Mark Shley. It was at the heels of a shift where Gus Nyquist does a great job hanging on to the puck. He sends Mark Shley in one verse three. A nice job from Mark to shoot the puck and draws a penalty on route. Down by a goal here. Power play Jets. So with Perfetti out of the game, I follow takes his spot and he’ll get after it. Connor does as well, but the Flames just are able to get it out of an off backland and to center ice. Moresy Shley, Connor I follow and of course Gabriel Valardi. Shley bringing it through neutral ice and continues to carry. Makes his way in tracks it down. Shley gets it back. Morsy grabbed it along the boards. Valardi for Connor. Connor had a long power play scoring drought. His last power play goal was December 23rd last year in Toronto. He didn’t score one in the playoffs or the regular season before it. Since that point, he’ll reset. Connor drifting back. He got it through. Alexo toward the net. I follow for Valardi. He was in his feet a little bit. He can’t get it back to the blue line and they clear it. Yeah, there was enough attention being paid to Aafalo. He just wasn’t able to put that right on the one-time T for Valardi, but it was a good attempt and tight. Valardi last year 12 power play goals out of his 27 in total. Play it ragging now. Kirkland breaking things up. He’ll kill some time. Ayapollo leading into it, but Kirkland does some fine work and now it comes free with 40 seconds left in the penalty to Pereck. Shley up ahead working against Weaguer. Shley turns with it buying some time as the Jets get into position. Here’s Pearson. Connor shot that is stopped and held on to by Wolfe. Might be the last thing to kind of click into place in preseason is the power play. It’s it’s just difficult, right? different cast members in and out and the Jets looking pretty good on this last power play as you can see K Connor on the back door find a way to get that puck through the middle of the ice and Connor pulls the trigger on that one eye here does a nice job on the backand he thinks he’s got all eyes on him and Zardi if it was on the T would have been a good chance for number 13 so now it’s Destnikov Pearson Nyquist the rider and peon with 28 left of the Calgary minor to correct back and I head ahead. [Music] See who comes up with it. Pearson digging in. So is Nita Ryder. Flames get a break. Jets had a couple of touches but could not maintain possession. Peock four power play goals out of his 10 in total last year. Speed from Domestikov. Carried ahead and backed in by Nike. He’s a pretty nifty looking player. Pian Pearson. Penalty just about over. Nestnikov finding Neil Pian. Pianquish shot. Chance in front. Wolf stretches out and denies Nyquis. He had nowhere to shoot it. Penalty is over. One power play shot that time and cleared in by back. A game of patience right there as Nyquis tries to outweight Wol. It was just one man holding on to it just long enough or not quite long enough. Good save from Wolf. A good attempt from Nyquist. Dumped in by Barrett. He’ll charge into the forche. Knocks his man off balance. Parker Ford is there too. 720 left in the third. Ford shoveled it back but didn’t have enough on and it went right to Cadry. Good back check by Key who stands him up. Flurry bags it ahead. Ford will skate into it. Net drive by Morgan Baron and he missed it. for had to sail that one through that shot score. That hit forward in front and this game is tied at four. Well earned from Parker Ford as he sauces a little floater. A sauce pass that didn’t sit flat for Morgan Baron right here. Pounces over Morgan Baron’s stick and then the shot. This one goes right off of the crest of Parker Ford who goes straight to the net. You talk about Ford tough. That’s it right there from number 25. Nice little pass and then a shot from the point off of the chest of Ford. I think the referees will talk but not for very long. This is not kicked, not gloved. And it is a good goal from Parker Ford. Ties the game with just over seven minutes to go. He’s shown well, hasn’t he, Dan? He has. He he seems to have a nose to go to the right places and he did that right there well. He knows who he is. He knows that he has to be a pest. He knows he has to make simple hard plays. Earn trust defensively and that’s not hard to do if you spend most of your time in the offensive zone. And that’s what Parker and his line have done almost every shift by my count in this game. He’s been rewarded now with a goal. Two points for him in this match. So, we are all square at four. It was 4-1 at one point for the Flames, but the Jets hung around, crept back in, and have this game all square. And another chance here at the side of the net. Connor hoping to get a stick on that puck that was behind the goal. And he’s got it. Connor for Bolardi. Twisting sets it up. Connor just chipped that. Shley was in front. This is Flurry. And that hit. The linesman went to the referee went to the side of the goal and Polardi is upended on the play looking for the penalty that did not materialize. Good work by Flurry at the line. It’s offside Calgary. I agree. Totally great work from Flurry to stand up to force Calgary offside. I said two points of course just one. Sorry for that Parker Ford with that goal, but he has been all over the place. That fourth line has been dynamite in my mind. Parker for don’t forget he scored his first ever goal in his first ever game in the Cinderella story last year in Boston. Everybody remembers that if you’re a Jets fan and gets one here to tie this game. Well, he did not have a point on that uh flurry goal at the first, but that’s right. He was right in. I mean, if you could give an extra point, it would go to him. He was right in right there instrumental on that goal. Logan Stanley. He was terrific there and he ties the game here. Assists to Stanley and Baron at 1257. Hanley ahead for Cadri and he’ll get it in now. Nomestic off back after a wobbling puck. The Jets couple of players short. DLO left with injury. Then Perfetti after him. Wraparound attempt. Henley. Well, Henley will grab it. There’s a shot and booted away by Connor Hobach. Wager sent it right back to the side of the net. Morsy a quick stick lift there on Cadri. Makes a good pass to Shen and away they come. Flames get back in numbers. Nyquist twists and deposits down along the backboards. Weer safely dumped it down. Five and a half left in the third period. Here’s Nino Nether with some open ice ahead of him. Changing gears, bringing it in. He lost the handle. It’ll go right to Pere and the Jets are going to have another power play. They will look for their first lead of the game when we come back. It’s 4-4 in Calgary. [Applause] Guilty party is the hometown boy Jake Beam. Two minutes for interference just after the Jets tie this game. Needle Nether Rider goes right down the gut and draws this penalty. Jets have always been very good at staying in games. Even in games where they’re not at their best, they find ways to hang around. They find ways to score goals. Last year, they scored 103 period goals. That was good for fourth best in the NHL. They’ve done it here again with a couple to tie it up. Last year when they had three or more goals, they were 1321 and two. Of course, this is a regular preseason game, but worth mentioning nonetheless. Given away by Haliban shot, and Halib made the save on him. That’s a good active save from Connor Hobach to come out to challenge that shot. Makes the left leg save. So now they get organized through neutral by a foul. Kyle Connor shot blocked. Pulled the trigger quickly. That was blocked by Anderson and then slammed all the way down. Yeah, there’s that release that we’ve seen so many times from Kyle. Doesn’t take very much. Quick little rapid fire. Conor with 41 goals in total last year. Now Shinley will bring it and leave it. Connor hits the line. That hit Shley and the race is on. Weer stick lift there by Connor. Shley joins the mix. Lots of players around now and the flames will clear. The Jets yet to get set on the power play. They’ll get some new personnel over the boards looking to take their first lead. Pian will step out. He’s got Nike to his left. And here he is. He’ll spin it ahead. Is that offside? Yes, it is. As they’re just ahead of the play with Pearson. Gus Nyquist has shown how shifty and evasive that he can be on that if follow goal the behind the back pass and even in the neutral zone when you think there’s nowhere to go he spins and finds a way this one just offside but a tricky little play from number 14 left in the penalty to beat 408 in the third period of play the Jets have scored three in a row Nyquist I follow and Ford to tie the game will march back behind his net as he looked break it out effectively. Nvesticov keeps it away from Lombberg. Nikbis reels it in now. Sets it up for Pon. He’ll shoot it. That’s kicked away before it gets through to the goal. And Pian stepped in front of Sharon Govich. 20 left now in the penalty. Jets will try again. Nikist to the line. Brings it in and sends it in the direction of Nita Ryder. Wings it for Pearson. Here’s the Mstikicov and he brag it off the post. He was wide open. He’ll set it up again. Nino need a rider. Back to the point. Pian shot and that is stopped. Penalty is over. Back to five skaters aside. Jets did not register a shot though. Domestic came close. Now grabbed there by Pearson. He’ll send it back. Boy, Nomesticov had a lot of time right in the slot area and looked like he was trying to outweigh Dustin Wolf and hits the post on the outside. Mans start to rally and get into it a little bit now. Coronado looking to get it past Shen if he can. And it’s sended by Morgan Frost. Flurry leftwing pass. It went off Keepy. Flames get it back. Anderson directed that through. Denied by Halabuk Hadley around and all the way to the other side for Anderson. Chip toward the front. Shin hacks at it. Parker Ford reached it and he cleared it. Back to center. Frost looking right side and Flurry stepped up and put the check on Griden. Barnado though for the Flames. Works his way back toward the line. Gridden let that one go. He may have got a chunk of that puck. Cadri being tied up by Baron. Ford is there too. Now Ford trying to get his stick free. Cadri grabbed it. Keepy gets to center and gets it in. Well, the referee’s a little bit more lenient now both ways here with just over two to go in a tie game. We right up the middle. Weer to Farabe. They set it up and a chance there for Cadri, but he couldn’t pull the trigger. He had a millisecond and he had an opening. Well, if that puck was sitting flat, I think it’s in the back of the net. Cadri had beach ball eyes on that one. Flames turn it back the other way. Sharon Govich will roll that to the side of the net. Elab played it off the backboards of the minute. 40 left in this third period of play. Josh Morrisy. Shipley is up ahead. He’ll take his pass. Shley Bardi and back again. Shley checked right away by Anderson. Zide again in the corner. Backlin to Coleman. He’s got to be careful. He is. He made a pass right onto the tape of Connor Zerry. His shot attempt blocked by Stanley. Stanley steps in front of Zary who’s got to be careful not to hold him. Stanley again plays it off the inboards to Hayden Flurry. He lifts it. Valardi’s just outside of the line. Clut just over the line by Nita Ryder. Up down by Flurry with a minute left in the third period of play. Wolf leaves it. Weer all kinds of ice time for him tonight. Redirected in by gritten hell looking to be carefully to deal with Coronado. There’s a discarded stick down there that’s been on the ice for quite some time. And Morrisy right back on after a brief breather. Shoveled but knocked down by Anderson. Half a minute left in regulation. Tanley threw it ahead. Ford stepped in front of it. They get it on side. Ford got it in. Dashing up there is Key. Anderson played it safely behind the net to Cadri who had an excellent chance just a moment ago. Fourth line on the ice. Lots of trust earned and why not from Scott Arneal in a tie game and the dying seconds at the third. Flames maybe with time for a chance. This is Sharon Govich fired it wildly and this game will go to overtime. So the Jets erase a three-goal deficit. And through 60 minutes of play, we’re tied at four. Jets got to be happy with the way they’ve kind of grown into this game and recovered from an average start to the game. And here’s the last chance from Nomesticov as the Jets push to win this one in regulation. It was Tanner Pearson right there. Look at that. That’s excellent execution from one corner in behind the net. You change the point of attack. And then look at Nomesticov in the middle of your screen waiting. No one near him. and he kind of tries on the far side, hits the outside of the post. That close to ending this one in regulation after they trailed by two coming into the third. So the goal scorers tonight, Cadri with a pair for the Flames, Gritten and Hanley with one. Flurry, Mike West, Afalo, and Parker Ford have scored for Connor Halabuk and the Winnipeg Jets as we will go of course to three skaters aside. Heluk has made a couple of real big saves in this third period to keep his team’s hopes alive and down by three goals in this game. Let’s take a look at all three of them from the Winnipeg Jets. That’s Gus Nyquist doing a really good job fighting for inside ice. A rebound and he bangs that one into the back of the net. And look at that beautiful pass from Nyquist for his second point of the game. Dia Fallow to get within one. And then this was a chest bump into the back of the net from Parker Ford. A grindy fourth line goal to tie it. And that’s where we stand now. That will drop the puck with some threeon-ree overtime. We’ll see who both spot Ariel and Brian Huska send over the boards to start. The usual suspects for the Jets, Shley, Connor, and Morrisy. And for the Flames, Cadri, Farab, and Anderson. Always a treat. At least as far as I’m concerned. Love the threeon three and the allimportant face off will be between Cadri and Shley. [Music] Another point up for grabs. Both teams would love to finish the exhibition schedule with the win. But the Flames start with the puck. Anderson, the former Barry Cold had 11 goals last year, tying his single season high. Farabby to Cadry. Farabby is open and offside. He just got onside. Cadry shot. Stopped by Helluck. The Jets getting the puck back. The Flames are changing. Now Connor brings it to the blue line. Kyle Connor to the net. Shley. Connor peels back. Knew he could not get that pass through. Dishes to Shley. He’ll leave it for Moresy. Out to the front of the net. We’ve seen these three work magic in overtime in previous seasons. Coronado gets it back for the Flames. Tractly forced him back. He will go on a change now. Coronado, Frost, and Wager on for Calgary. Domestic off. Valardi and Morsy still there for the Jets. Morgan Frost tries to cut around Domestic off and does. Coronado took the pass. We gets open near the blue line and elects to back out and reset. Wiger Frost drop passed away. Good awareness by Domestic trying to squeak past Cornado. Coming through is Gabriel Valardi. In front was Morrisy, but the pass cut off by McGuer. Look at Valardi work to get it back. Valardi still with it. Excellent stuff from number 13 in white. Peock just over the boards. Neil Pock drives to the net. Denied by Wolf. He got it back. Up top it goes to Nomesticov. Peock looking sharp there. Domestic weaves back. Valardi goes off. Pock took that puck. Mike Vfist is on now for Winnipeg in overtime. Look at that move by Pock. Spin move and denied by Wol. Why not? As it sent down. We’ve seen him spin a few times in the past, haven’t we? It was good play. And all of that started from Vlatty Mesnikov working to get the puck back for his team in the neutral zone. So Flurry gives it and gets it back from Nyquist. Ayafalo is on the ice now. Sharon govich Zary and correct for the Flames. Overtime in Calgary. Here is Flurry. Love to cap a nice night with a goal if he can. Goes to the net. Check is Afala but he stays with it. Now it comes free. Ayafala will hustle back. This is Zary for the Flames. Connor Zary. Slot pass shot and denied is Farabe. And a good look at it. The Jets will slow things down. And I follow had sprinted to the line, but now he’ll go off. Shley Morsy back on. Lquist waits for Mark Shley. Takes a look. Got it through some skates to Morsy and away he goes. Josh Morsy. There goes Nike Viz. Connor coming on. Of course. Morsy peels back. Makes the pass through to Shley. Shiffley. Borisy looks to the front redirected behind the net. Shuty trying to race Barabby to the puck. He can’t and almost a clearcut break away for Cadri, but he didn’t get enough of it. He was trying to take advantage of the three jets in deep ice, but there’s something different about Connor Shipley and Morrisy when they’re on the ice together. They come right back in. Shley got it from Connor. Gave it back. Connor in the corner. 90 left in overtime. He’ll leave it. Morrisy. Shley Connor gets open. Kyle Connor shot stopped by Wolf and that’s grabbed by Farabe. Connor’s right on him though. Farabby kept it away and now gets it ahead. But that hit the referee reaching back as Cadri a pair of goals tonight. Far sets it up. Wiger shoveled that high. Back to the blue line and Cadri will take it back to center. Jets need a change desperately. Conor’s off. Little speed now from Morgan Frost. One-on-one back hand fought off by Halabuk. Here comes big Nino. Need a Rider chugging up to the line. Need a Ryder. Morsy heads off. On the ice and on the puck is Peock. Neil Peock played it to the corner. He’s been sharp here in this extra period and he shoveled it, but it went out of the zone. Valardi waits for Nita Ryder to get on side. Gabriel Valardi going to the net is Peock. This is Nether Rider. Need a rider. Polardi gives it back to him. Nino need a rider. Polardi shortens on the stick. He has to be careful. That’s knocked out of the zone. Cadry was up for an eternity. Carried back in. Balardi. That’ll bounce to Neil Pock. Sets it up and need Ryder couldn’t pull the trigger. He missed on the pass too, but he sticks with it. Ted left in overtime. Peock. He thought about loading up for the big shot. They’ve got to get it away soon. Pock tried to filter it through. and we will go to a shootout. Well, this game incrementally improved drastically for the Winnipeg Jets from the drop of the puck in the first here to the end of the threeon three overtime. Neil Pon came close a couple of different times and what an entertaining game here for the last one of this preseason. It’s going to require a shootout. Mazam Cadry two goals in this game and he had an awfully good opportunity early in this overtime. He’ll pay nice little spin move there to represent a shot and then look at the way he almost comes out of his skates on that one and tight on the back hand. Dustin Wolf has looked fantastic and then Shikley to Connor on the back door like I said earlier with those three men on the ice so hard to contain. Back and forth we go. Kenzie Wager jumps up the D man attempting to end this one to a shootout we go. So Halabuck will gather his composure. Yep. Peock showing some skill. Little spin move here and there. Almost finished the game. Alex follow with a goal tonight. His goal made it four to three Calgary. And then Parker Port was able to tie it at 1257 of the third. Jets have shown a ton of resiliency in this game. It didn’t start off the way they wanted. They weren’t playing to their identity very much in the first 30 minutes of the game in my mind. They lost a couple players in Dlo and Cole Perfetti. They found a way to claw themselves back. So Morgan Frost will take the first opportunity. 14 goals last year overall between Philadelphia and Calgary. He slows Frost. Branget just grazed the goal post with that shot. Top speed to slow change of speed as Frost is hoping that’ll be opening something up for him. The lefty looking for the far side. That’s a no-go. Speaking of speed, here comes Connor taking it left. Kyle Connor. Quick trigger pull. Wolf got enough of it. Although he doesn’t score, it’s still just amazing to how quickly this puck comes off with the stick of Kyle Connor. No predictability whatsoever. And look at the way Wolf just stays up, stays up, and snares that one. Dustin Kirkland with a chance to get on the board here for the Flames. Kirkland scores. [Music] Kirkland beats Hob. This is a patent move for Kirkland as he scored with this one in the past. And then the lefty starts on the left side and just drags it. Toe drags across the crease and finds the top corner. Shley’s up. So the Flames one for two. Jets 0 for one. Shley here in the booze. Shley lifted that and missed the net. Trying to beat Wolf on the top corner glove side as well. I don’t know if the puck rolls on shape a little bit here. Yeah, it did. And he got under it. That might have raised the bar. This could win it for the Flames. And it’s 19-year-old Metv Griden weaving his way in very casually. Gridden stopped by Hellob. Couple of elite 19year-olds in the lineup for the Calgary Flames. Grin is one of them. Zay the other. And you’re right, really poised and casual. Tries five hole. Hell says no. Valardi needs this one to prolong the game. Valardi to the slot. Scores. Oh man. Gabe Valardi. That is fancy work with the hands. It’s just amazing to me what this man could do when there’s pressure. circles the puck. Top corner. Sharon Govich now for Calgary. Takes him way wide. Entertaining game here tonight. He is stopped by the glove of Helib. That’s good composure from Connor Helenuk as well to stay up on his feet and make this glove save. I call these ones the hockey cards. Photo op right there. Boom. Nicely done. And an opportunity to win it for Nyquis. That’s Nyquist takes it wide as well. Nyquist stopped by Wolf. Well, he was trying to sell this one up in the top corner, I think, and slid it fivehole on the ice last second. Again, not a whole lot of pace. It looked like Nyquis was trying to crack his wrists and Wolfe didn’t bite. The fifth shooter for Calgary is defenseman Rasmus Anderson. [Applause] Anderson creeping in, scores. Elbow got the stick on it, but not enough. Yeah, he spread them out here. This is a nice play from Rasmus Anderson and he comes in from left to right and he’s wanting Hellob’s legs to open. They do right there and he goes cross grain. Well executed. Morsy needs this one. Moresy pretty quickly in scores. He ripped that one and we are nodded again in the shootout. This is a perfect shot and it needs to be just over the pad under the glove. Josh a rare smile as he gives everybody fist pumps. Well done. Nice shot. Each team has scored twice for the Jets. Valardi and Morsy there. This is Coronado. The sixth shooter for Calgary. Matt Coronado hit the goal post. [Applause] Hell out to challenge. Look at that. A real confident quick feet and Cornado rings the bell. Need Ryder. And this man will try and put a close to this game. Nino need Ryder up the middle. Need Ryder staggered a bit to the back hand. Didn’t get the shot away that he wanted. I think he was representing shot and hoping that one was going to slide in. It was a bit of a trick play. I think he does this one on purpose. Watch here again as he pretends he’s pulling it. Huh? Maybe not. I think he was trying to hook that one right. I’m getting ahead of myself, Dan. Here comes Cadri trying to put the flames back ahead. He’ll speed in. Cadri waits and he skated himself out of the angle. Who says goalies aren’t good skaters? This is a nice job and good edge work from Connor Hobb. Drops the glove. He’s more concerned with fronting this puck and he has to travel a long way. Look at the push, the double push and a little blocker save from Hela. Tanner Pearson, the seventh shooter, looking for the win here. Pearson stopped by Wolf. No, it’s in. That is in. And Pearson with a crazy shootout goal has won it for Winnipeg. You might not see a more bizarre [Applause] game-winning goal all year long as Tanner Pearson shoots. Wolf makes the save and somewhat casually just kind of catches the fly ball at his own crease and it bobbles right into his own net. Oh boy. Tanner Pearson, the seventh shooter in this shootout. covering four shot the save on the blocker and then Wolf thinks he’s just going to catch this with his glove and he ends up knocking it back into his own net. How about that? Might have been better off just to let it go. He kind of looked around as if to say what just happened here. Well, you can rest on the fact that it’s just preeason, but nonetheless, that is a freaky win. And third, freaky goal against from Dustin Wolf. One to remember for Tanner Pearson. And the Jets, like I said, resilient, Dan. They they didn’t go away. They weren’t at their best for 60 minutes, but they were good enough to find a way to claw back into this one and win it in a shootout. Yeah, they trailed it by a count of four to one. It took seven shooters to win it. Galardi Morrisy and Tanner Pearson score the shootout goals to give the Jets the one-goal win and to conclude the preseason schedule for both the Jets and the Calgary Flames. So the next time we see Winnipeg, it’ll count for two points. Calgary is going to their next home game will be the Blues are here on Saturday, but on the 9th, that’s when it opens for the Jets at home against the Dallas Stars. will be on the air at 6:30 with the pregame show for that. So, an entertaining way to close out the regular season. Game was uh in trouble early here for the Jets, but they hung around and they get the win by a score of 5 to four. For Kevin Sor, Dan Robertson Sports Center, we join it in progress with Mark Row and Glenn Schieler. Jets with the victory 54 to shoot out over the Flames. Good night from Calgary and thanks for watching. [Applause] [Music]
