Perry Minasian STUNS Angels Fans with Vague Promises and Evasive Answers | Press Conference FUMBLE

The Angels general manager Perry Manassian finally spoke to the media on Saturday about our favorite team. You are Locked On Angels, your daily Los Angeles Angels podcast, part of the Locked On podcast network. Your team every day. Thanks for making Locked On Angels your first listen of the day. Perry spoke about his job on Saturday and also spoke about the managerial job and the process that they are currently in. We’ll give you an update on that. He talked about Reed Deetmers and he shared what he will be doing that is Red Deet in 2026. And then Perry spoke about Anthony Rendone and the update he shared was absolutely positively ridiculous. Before we talk about the Angels, we want to thank our sponsor FanDuel. Right now, new customers can bet $5, and if your first bet wins, you’re going to get $300 in bonus bets to use across the app, however you want. So, download the FanDuel app today. Thanks for being here for this episode of Locked on Angels, where it’s your team every day. You’ve got the fresh brothers here with you, aka the Super Halo Bros. My name is John, and that’s my brother Mike. And my name is Mike. And that’s my brother John. Hey, we’ve been talking Angels baseball with you here on Locked on Angels for the last four seasons. And now we’re entering another off season where the news comes fast and furious. So, we want to ask you to join us every single weekday here on Locked on Angels. Monday through Friday, we’re talking Halos’s baseball with you for all the late breaking news, for all the press conferences that don’t mean boo. How about that? Uh Mike, why don’t we get into Perry Manosian and what he had to say last uh Saturday. Yeah. So, John, you said on Friday’s show uh you felt like something was going to happen. Well, something did happen. You were just a day off. You were one day off, but Perry had a press conference on Saturday. felt like it was a last minute deal, which is typical angels. And so, lots to share. This is from Jeff Fletcher of the OC Register. Great job by Jeff and Red Ballinger and Sam Blum giving us some good information. Sam Blum really did a a great uh editorial of the press conference. If you didn’t get a chance to read that, you should because I think Sam speaks for a lot of frustrated Angel fans. So, first obviously Perry Manassian is coming back for his last year of his contract and the first thing that he addressed was the new managerial hire. He said all other issues that this team is facing take a backseat to that new hire and he called the next hire for manager a big one, a huge one. He said we have to nail it. We can’t miss. Wondering if that means that he felt like he missed with Ron Washington. We’ll talk about that in a minute. When asked about Wash, Perry said, “Obviously, it was a really tough decision. I love Wash. I’ve been with him in three different places, Anaheim, Texas, and Atlanta. He’s a heck of a baseball man, but at the end of the day in this job, you have to make tough decisions.” We had a discussion all day Monday with ownership, just talking through the season, and it felt like there needed to be a different voice. John, do you think that that’s Perry Manosian saying that he was not the best hireer for this team or what is he saying by letting Ron Washington go? There’s a there’s a tinge of upsetness, I guess you could say, in the sense that this is the hire that Perry Manassian got to make, right, Mike? We say this all the time on the show. Perry Manasian never got to select his manager. Yeah. When he came in, Joe Madden was already the manager. After that, there was nonsense with Arty, is he going to sell? Is he not going to sell? Well, we’ll just keep Phil Nevin on for another year and just see what happens because obviously new ownership will want to come in and change up the management. So, we’ll wait for that to happen and then it didn’t happen. And so, then finally, Perry gets to select his manager. Uh, and at the end of the day, as as he was saying, you have to make tough decisions. Well, to me, this this is probably the toughest decision that Perry Manosian had to make because this is the guy that he wanted and it’s the guy that he got. And look, we have spoken about Ron Washington and what he’s meant to this team and, you know, the possibility of them probably landing somewhere around 500 at the end of the season had he not had his heart issues this year because they were kind of destined for that when he was part of this team. Just two games under 500. So, you can give or take y there, right? Uh probably would have said the same thing if they were two games over 500. they would have ended up probably around 500. And so at the uh at this press conference as he’s referring to Ron Washington and and making that tough decision, I don’t know the can I read between the lines a little bit like about the vibe. Yeah. Just just talking about, you know, we had discussions all day on Monday with ownership and and you know, not to not to jump ahead in the conversation here, Mike, I I don’t think that Perry Manosian is going to have a lot of say coming into this next season. Yeah, I agree. Sam Blum actually tweeted about a question, two questions that he asked Perry Manosian because he mentioned Ron Washington’s performance. So, he asked Perry about his performance. Here’s the exchange. He said, here’s the question. Ron Washington was let go because of job performance. You’ve been here for five years and the onfield performance has been consistently bad. Sam makes me laugh. Uh, how do you assess your performance in the job that you’ve done? And he said, I’m not worried about that. I’m worried about going forward where we are at this point in time. Making the team better, hiring the right manager. I think there was some progress from last year to this year in the win column. Obviously, not enough to get to where we want to go. Need to improve the team. Multitude ways of doing that. But as far as I’m not worried about myself, I’m worried about making this team better. So then Sam said asked this question, but if you’re going to assess the performance of Wash and everyone else, can you assess your own performance? And he said that would be a question for somebody else. John, why is gone but Perry is not? Yeah. The reason Wash is gone but Perry is not, Mike, it’s just too much to do in the off season to have to search for a new general manager, to have to search for a new manager of the team, and then you have to deal with a stadium audit, right? And then you have to deal with the Tyler Skaggs civil trial. There’s just so much going on with this team already that they’re they’re not going to add another issue to their plate and add a GM search to that as well. Here’s my thing about it. I think it speaks volumes at the fact that Perry Manassian is going to finish out his contract because I I I hate the phrase like lame duck general manager. Yeah. But Mike, it it really sounds like, you know, for as much as we have said in the past, oh, Arty just hires a bunch of yesmen and they have to do his bidding and da da da da. Perry Manosian has kind of push been able to push back on Arty Marino. Like when it came to Trey Turner, right, a few years ago, y you know, he said Arty Marino wanted to get Trey Turner. And Perry said, “Well, we could do that, but we also need to spread what we’d be paying Trey Turner around the rest of the team because we don’t have a lot to go around right now, and one guy is not going to solve all of our problems.” And so, you know, Arty conceded and let Perry bring in a couple of guys and pay for a couple of guys with the money they would have spent on Trey Turner. Now, having said that, I think that we’re back to Arty’s in charge. Art’s going to make the decisions. He’s going to pick the next manager. It’s going to be a a feel-good, you know, Angel’s Glory days, like I said a couple of weeks ago, right? And I don’t think that’s necessarily a bad thing. I know a lot of people are saying, “Oh gosh, what a what another ploy by Arty Marino to get fans interested.” That’s that’s not where my concern is. Yeah. My concern is is Tory Hunter or Robert Phol or whoever it might be going to have the ear of Arty Marino because Arty actually respects the manager that’s been brought in because I think at this point I think that Perry’s run out of uh rope leeway road, whatever you want to say, runway, right? Yeah. I think he’s run out of that and and so I think to keep Perry Manosian on for this next year, uh his job is going to be to go and get the players, go have dinners, go make deals, and and we’ll tell you who we want. I really think that’s what it’s going to come down to. And whether that’s a good or bad thing, I think it’s been a bad thing in the past. I think with RD Marino spending money on on ginormous free agents but not paying attention to the minor leagues. Well, we’ve had Perry Minosian who’s paid attention to the minor leagues for the last 5 years, right? And in a lot of ways, it’s better off than it was five years ago. In a lot of ways, the team now is better off than it was five years ago because we have young guys who are playing actively on the field in Zach Neto and Joe Adell and those guys. All of that is a roundabout way of saying that if if Arty does Arty things this off season, it’s going to be Perry Manosian carrying out those marching orders because that’s all he really has left. Mike, I think that’s all that Perry has left in terms of sway and, you know, being able to have influence over this team. I I think that well has dried up, but what about you? Yeah, I agree. And in fact, when he talks about the marching orders, he said there’s no timetable for hiring a new manager. They’re hoping to have the process not take too long. He indicated that there’s going to be inside and outside candidates. He said, obviously, you want somebody that understands people, understands the game, has presence, there’s respect. I can name 5,000 qualities that you’d like to have. Harry added that the Angel’s managerial hire could come as early as next week. So this was Saturday, so he’s talking about this week. So we will see what happens this week. The reason they want to move quickly is because John, they want to round out the coaching staff and right now all the current coaches are in limbo and they’re free to pursue other opportunities. So maybe those guys sign somewhere else and they don’t have to deal with letting them go or not bringing them back. They all kind of have options that they can they can bring them back if they wanted to. And so I think the new manager obviously wants to bring in his own team which I think would be really helpful. When do you think we’re going to hear about a new manager, John? And I was going to refer to the coaching staff really fast. It’s the same thing that happened between 23 and 24, right? everybody from the coaching staff was able to go and pursue other opportunities and that’s what they did. Ron Washington was hired and then throughout, you know, January, February, March, we heard more about the coaching staff. So, and by the way, the coaching staff that was free to pursue other options, they didn’t get great positions. That should tell you everything that you need to know about the coaches we had prior to the ones that we have right now. So, if they let these guys go, and you and I have said, I think Barry Enright deserves to come back, but it’ll be interesting to see what teams will bring them in and what they will actually be doing when they get brought in, right? Because I think that’ll be an indication as to what maybe we’ve all felt, maybe an affirmation of what we’ve all felt about at least the hitting side of things and maybe even the pitching side of things. So, that’ll be an interesting watch depending on who they bring in as a manager and if they will bring on their own team or stick with the guys that are there. I’m going to say I’m going to say Wednesday. How about that? Can we just say Wednesday? Let’s find out about that manager. Thursday. On Wednesday. Yeah. Yeah. I’ll be one day off again. We can lock on Angels. Your first list of the day coming up. Perry Manasian spoke about this team’s future, some of uh where we’re going to see some of these players playing in 2026. Also, something about Anthony Rendone that you’re not going to believe or actually you’ll probably believe it. We’ll talk about that in just a minute. We’re also on Tik Tok at Super Halo Bros as well. We’d love to hear your thoughts on everything discussed on today’s show. John Perry spoke about the team, but before he did, obviously he said the managerial search is taking priority and that means and according to him, he doesn’t really have knowledge of what the budget for next year is going to be. So Sam Blum directly asked them about this and here’s what the question was and here here’s how Perry responded. He said, “Will there be payroll flexibility to add in free agency?” And Perry said, “We haven’t gotten to that part yet.” Obviously the manager has been a hot topic over the last couple of days, but I don’t see why not from a payroll standpoint. We’ve always been pause. I think ownership Arty and Carolyn have always invested in this club. I don’t see that changing. invested in this club. John, that is a interesting statement and I think it just epitomizes where the Angels have been because we’ve talked adnauseium on this show as other Angel fans have discussed that the investments you can’t deny. There has been money spent, but it hasn’t been wise money spent, appropriate money spent. Which is why, by the way, just so that we can clear the deck, John and I know that Arty Mareno is the problem. We know that Arty is the problem. So when you jump in the comments and say nothing changes until Arty sells, we get you. We’re with you. But that would be a boring locked on angel show if every time we jumped on we just said that and then said thanks for making us your first listen. And then that would be that would be every episode of the year, wouldn’t it? Yes. And so what we’re doing is what Perry’s doing. We’re having to operate in the real world. Could this team be a good team? Yeah. If they make wise, important decisions. Which brings us back to the question, John. Do do they really believe does Perry really believe that they’ve invested in this club in a wise way or is it just a way of saying, “Yeah, they’ve spent some money.” Right? You know what frustrates me about the yeah we’re we spend some money conversation or the you know the Angels are about number 10 in payroll or always top 10 in payroll right because you have half your payroll going to two players that you extended and signed Ry Marino and so one of them basically doesn’t exist and the other is Mike Trout and look as far as Mike Trout goes let’s hope that he’s healthy this coming season we’ll talk about you know some of the plans with him here in just a But Mike, I had this thought and then Beyond the Halo on Twitter uh put it together, so he beat me to it. But he took every quote from Perry Manosian from The Athletic for the last five years and pasted them all together in one tweet and even to the point where Sam Blum retweeted it. And it’s all the same thing. It’s boilerplate. It’s standard issue. It’s all the same talking point about Arty and Carol, man. and they’ve really invested in this team and you know I think I think ownership really wants to win. It was all the same stuff we’ve heard five years in a row. So again it is just a repeat of everything we’ve heard for the last five years at this point. You know you can you can gaslight us and say yeah they want to win. Well they haven’t really shown us have they Mike? like, you know, there there’s certainly wise ways to spend and sometimes you got to be a little ridiculous and and pony up some money for free agents out there that aren’t the fringe guys. Like I think for example, you say Kikuchi was a step in the right direction. Kyle Hendrickx, no matter, you know, he was cheap, 2.5 million in terms of baseball money, he’s cheap, but that’s not going to get you to the playoffs. Right. and and and so to me it’s it it’s the same talking point over and over again. We literally had it copied and pasted right in front of us in into one image because that’s all we ever hear. It’s it’s the old insanity phrase doing it over and over and over again expecting something different to happen. So, as far as Arty and Carol are invested in this club, man, you could you could take that a million different ways and you could interpret it a bunch of different ways. But from the payroll standpoint, we’ve always been pause. I’m glad you said pause because then he took it back to Ari and Carol. But you know what he was going to say? From a payroll standpoint, we’ve always been in the top 10 or some version of that. Yeah. And and so that’s just that’s the frustrating part is like, okay, I I I hear you. Yeah. However, you have dead money on your payroll that you haven’t compensated for. And then you have Mike Trout who hasn’t been on the field consistently for the last five years. This last season was the most he’s been on the field. You know, for for goodness sake, he missed one month and that was like, thank goodness he only missed a month, right? and and then he he struggled and and you know obviously at the end of the season there it seemed like kind of figured some things out but yeah at the end of the day super frustrating to hear the same talking point over and over again. Now talk about investment he did say we need to upgrade the roster first and foremost we need to start with starting pitching. He said that’s number one, number two and number three. I like that he said that, but the problem is is that then it are we going to get another Kyle Hendricks or are we going to go and get somebody that actually is going to be effective? He did say that Reed Deetmers is going to be back in the starting rotate rotation. He said Reed has earned that. He’s a different guy. I think he really grew up. He’s going to be a part of the starting rotation and so we’re going to see what happens with the last two spots. Now that means the rotation, John, is Kikuchi Soraniano and Deetur. Now, I love this tweet from our friends over at Talking Halos. Jared Tims tweeted, “I fully expect George Clawson, Tyler Brenner, Chase Shores, Nate Sneed, and Chris Cortez, friend of the pod, to comp uh compete for at least a bullpin spot in the spring. If they don’t make it, I I guarantee that they’ll be starters in the minor leagues.” Now, Perry said that he will look at all different avenues to make the rotation significantly better. Do any of these in-house options make the rotation significantly better? Yeah, it it’s the point about what Jared said about Clawson and Brener, Chase Shores, Sneed, Cortez, those guys. Um, trying to compete for at least a bullpen spot at minimum. And then above that, you know, they’re going to take Kaden Dana into consideration. They’re going to take Sam Aligary into consideration. Jack Kohanowitz, right? Hopefully that he figures out some stuff over the off season. But in terms of in-house options, I I I I still think that if any of those guys end up in the rotation next year, you’re kind of you’re kind of pushing all your chips in. Yeah. On those guys. I’d like to see somebody like Kaden Dana get a little bit more comfortable with his repertoire or his mindset. Um Chris Cortez, right? I think that he’s got the the bulldog mentality that we often talk about like like a lackey, right? Like a John Lackey. And when we talk to Chris, you know, Chris Chris knows he understands the assignment. Yeah. But now it’s just a matter of, you know, the guy’s 21, 22 years old. Can his body catch up to what he needs to do at the major league level? Well, you’re going to find out one way or another. But the truth is is that a lot of these guys need time to develop in the minor leagues and have full seasons as starters, have full seasons as relievers. Give them one mindset to focus on and then don’t change it when you call them up to the big leagues, right? Don’t make Sam Algaryi pitch out of the bullpen. I understand it was a good learning experience, but like don’t these guys, they’re practicing for one thing and then all of a sudden they get called up to pitch another way. And you know, Chris told us that, you know, pitching’s pitching and these guys are, you know, chomping at the bit to have that opportunity. But also, don’t change their mindset. Let them be who you’ve who you are developing them to be. And and maybe that’s a lack of foresight. We didn’t think that far ahead, right? Um but they they need to stick to a lane and let those guys stay in that lane, especially if they’re bouncing up and down between the minor leagues. Mike, they they have to go out and sign to you guys. They have to sign, you know, either an ace and a three or two number twos, don’t you think? And and to me, I think Michael King is a great one of those one of those guy like pitcher 1A and then pitcher 1B, right? It’s going to be those kinds of levels that, you know, even if it’s not the ace of a staff, it’s a guy who pushes the staff forward. And I think that if you had two pretty, you know, high quality guys that are going to be at the front of this rotation, I think that they could go a long way. But what about you? Well, that depends on if they want to compete or not. Now, they’re going to tell us that they want to compete, but then they’re going to have to show us that, too. I think the Angels would actually win, John, if Perry said, “Listen, we’re gonna have Kikuchi, Soraniano, and Demmer’s in that starting rotation.” And then we have two spots and we’re going to see who’s going to earn that out of Kaden Dana, Sam Aliri, George Clawson, Chris Cortez. And that’s when angel fans can go, okay, so you so you are actually working on a rebuild here. You are actually wanting to develop these guys and you’re going to have them in the majors and your expectation is going to be, we want them to grow. We want them to learn how to pitch at the major league level. I think the problem is is that we’ve been in this mindset as Angel fans being told that they’re going to compete, compete, compete. So, we’re like, of course, they got to get an ace and they got to get another pitcher. That would make sense, right? But if Perry actually said, man, we have to we have to build this thing from within. So, we’re going to rely on some of our young guys and see what they got, which means that we’re probably not going to be one of the best teams in baseball. We’re probably not going to be one of the teams battling for a playoff spot. But what we love about the Angels and the Angel fans is that they support us no matter what. And so we’re going to ask them to support us as we watch these young guys, whoever it might be, develop at the major league level because we think that this time at the major league level is going to help them be who they are designed to be and created to be and have worked to be. That would be what the conf the the press conference should have been, right? That would have been a great conversation to have. But they didn’t do that because they they’re just going to say competitive competitive competitive compete compete compete. And then Angel fans are going to go, “Well, then here’s what you got to do. you got to go get these guys. And then when they sign, you know, Bob Sacramento to be the fourth pitcher, you’re going to go, who? Oh, this guy. He had he won 20 games in 1999 and he’s still pitching, right? Like that’s the type of people that they go after, which tells me you don’t want to compete. You’re just trying to field a team and and cross your fingers and wish that they actually can perform on the field and maybe we’ll get lucky, right? And we’ll we’ll win a game. You know, it’s interesting that you said what you’d like to hear from Perry Manosian. And the truth is, Mike, that’s one way the press conference could have gone. It could have been honest. It could have been open. It could have been, hey, you know what? We’re going to rely on these young guys. They’re going to compete for the last two spots, and we’re going to see how they go in 2026. Great. Love that. Or the other option is, hey, we really want to be competitive. We want to get to the playoffs, and in order to do that, we’re going to have to sign some high quality guys on the level of a, you know, fill in the blank, right? So a Zach Wheeler, even though he’s not available, it’s it’s it would be nice for Perry to reference somebody like that, you know, on that level. And so there’s a number of directions that the press conference could have got gone, but unfortunately it’s the same standard issue statements that we’ve been getting the last 5 years. Uh, in our notes, Mikey wrote the phrase, “Perry addressed the elephant not in the room, and that’s third base and Anthony Rendone.” And he said that Rendone still hasn’t started any baseball activity. And then you wrote, “Good grief.” Yes. With all cap with all capital letters and and exclamation points. Uh, here’s here’s my thing. Perry Manosian addressed the elephant who wasn’t in the room, but it is a big part of what needed to be addressed. I don’t care. I don’t care that he hasn’t started baseball activities. I don’t care that he disappeared this past season. And so, yeah, Perry, he definitely had to address that. But, man, Mike, I I don’t care. I I re I really don’t care. If Perry had said nothing about Randon, I would have been just fine. That’s that’s my take on it. Yeah. He he he indicating that he hasn’t picked up a bat or done baseball activities, whatever that means, tells me that this guy is not in the plans for 2026. And he’s not he’s not going to play. If he plays that will make me mad. Like having him around will make me mad because this guy I mean I have lost if I had any respect as a as a fan, I’ve lost all respect for this guy. the way that he’s behaved the last few years and the fact that he’s been hurt and he’s not going to pick up and then we don’t hear anything and it’s just I mean this guy is is the antithesis of like Mike Trout, right? Mike Trout is such a good guy, good to the fans even though he’s had a tough few seasons with injuries. He’s letting us know we see him with tears in his eyes. Like I I love that this is this is a situation where MLB should be able to step in and and and figure out how to reconcile the the financial piece to this because this is just outrageous that this guy is stealing from the Angels and has not put any effort into it. It’s why baseball contracts are some of the best contracts because you can sign it and then you’re locked in for five years and you can do whatever the heck you want. And that’s really what Randone has done. Whatever the heck he wants. Yeah. Yeah. go going to uh you know Pink Berry whenever he wants he gets fro yo. Yeah. Yeah. That’s where that’s where Anthony is from now on. He’s at the Pink Berry. He’s at the Pinkberry. He’s at the He’s at the yogurt land trying all the flavors. Yeah. Exactly. Now, Perry on that note did say that they were looking to upgrade third base in center field. And he also didn’t close the door on Joadell returning to center field. He said that Perry acknowledged that from a defensive makeup standpoint, it’s not the best position for Joe Adell. And he said the Angels played better when they did have Joe Adele in center. And that’s because of by virtue of who was able to play in right field, usually a healthy Solair or a healthy Mike Trout. Mike, I I take issue with that because um I like Joel in right field. It’s obviously his best position, but in terms of center field, uh if he’s going to be a center fielder, then let him prepare Yep. for center field. Yep. You know, coming into the season, the the idea of Mike Trout being in right field didn’t really come up until spring training, right? And so, I don’t know if that was news to Joe or not, but again, let these guys pick a lane and let him stick to it. And so, if you want Joe Adell in center field, tell him so that he can work his butt off in the off season and learn center field and learn to be better at it because he will. he’ll do it and he’ll rise to the occasion and he and he’ll put in the work to get better and we’ll see if the results come out on the field. Now, you know, Bryce Teodosio is also part of that conversation as well. Perry also said they’d like to have Mike Trout back in right field instead of designated hitter. He said at the end of the day, we’ll see how the offseason goes for Mike where he comes in during camp and we’ll go from there. Frustrating. Yeah. Not another another not good direction. Whatever you want to do, bro. whatever you want to do instead of saying this is what we want you to do. Right. Correct. And then regarding Jorge Solair, he said his body didn’t respond well to playing the field that often, which again, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to laugh, but it which again, he played right field when he got traded to the Braves and played every single game that he played for the Braves in right field last in 2024. So, why all of a sudden is it a problem? I right I you know I get it like it’s wear and tear but sure when did this become a problem all of a sudden right yeah frustrating he did mention that they’re going to do some work with the uh uh health and wellness team as well which I thought was was really interesting. It’s interesting to me too because this is essentially the most healthy the Angels have been Yeah. in a very very long time. So hopefully it’s improvements and not getting rid of anybody who starting all over again. Yeah. all over again. Look, I know I know Solair was hurt. I know Trout was hurt, but at the end of the day, all the pitchers were basically fine. I know that some of the guys like, you know, uh um Oh, I can’t think of his name right now. Some of the bullpen guys had to get hurt and and and stuff like that. But as far as the players on the field, it wasn’t like freak stuff. It was just like, you know, like Neto hurt his shoulder and and that sort of thing. So yeah, at the end of the day, I’m like, I hope they don’t mess anything up there because this was one of the healthier seasons that they’ve had for a very long time. And speaking of non-committal, he said that Christian Moore is going to come into camp and compete in some form or fashion. So he’s not going to be at second base. So you’re not going to have this guy you drafted as your number one pick at second. I mean, again, it’s it’s not it’s illdefined. I guess, you know, well, we’re going to make that decision as we get closer. Why not have a strategy, bro? He also mentioned the defense. He talked about the strikeouts. They need to be better. Um he he mentioned that uh when he was asked about if the Angels are close enough to contend next season, he was very non-committal. Again, he said, “I’ll make predictions. The goal is to make the team better. I understand we want to win for the fans. That’s why we play. These guys are coming out. We’re trying to build a really good team and a winning culture night in and night out.” Same thing that he’s been saying forever and ever and ever. He did say that he was also encouraged by the past season because uh they had more wins, but he said the issue was consistency. We saw flashes where baseball was played really well and then where baseball was not played really well. And so he said consistency is going to be the key to turning this thing around. That I agree with. I think that they did have a lot of inconsistency when you go sweep the Dodgers and then you can’t do a thing with the next team that you’re playing. That that shows me one that there is some sort of lack of inconsistency, but it also shows me that there’s a lack of coaching and and managering and staying focused. Like that’s a lot on the coaches and that’s a lot on on the manager, right? Yeah. You said managering again. I know. I made I made it I made it a verb. It’s a verb now on the show. Yeah. Um no, you’re right. And and look, the the other part of the inconsistency is, hey, how come you look like the Milwaukee Brewers against the Kansas City Royals on a random Tuesday night in September? Yeah. Where you’re putting the ball in play and running the bases really well and playing small ball. Like, where’s that team, right, for the other 161 games? Why do you do this to us? Why can’t you have consistency and play a brand of baseball that actually works versus the brand of baseball you’ve been playing where you’re trying to swing at everything and trying to hit it out of the park and striking out all the time. There were multiple times this season, Mike, where they looked like the team that they ought to be. And when they did, they did it very well. And you and I would go, “All right, run that back. Do it again tomorrow. Watch the video. Watch the video.” And that’s another part of the consistency conversation that is very frustrating. But again, it’s a lot of hs and haws and well, we’ll see. And you know, Christian Moore, he’s going to come into camp and compete in some form or fashion or some sort of way. But you called him up. Yeah. In July and now he’s not a rookie ever again. Yeah. He’s not a rookie ever again. So if he could doesn’t compete well, like is he going back to double AAA? Like what’s the plan? I don’t understand. And and then he’s gonna compete for second base with who? Yeah. Oswald PZA. Like what are you talking about? I don’t understand this. Like who is he competing with? Are you going out and getting a second baseman? Are you like are you going to make Christian Moore play third or what what are you talking about? It doesn’t make any sense to me. This was the most frustrating part of this press conference is the fact that all right, we’re finally finally going to get some answers here and then everything is just kind of hums and haws. 5050 604 40 40 60, right? And and and so all of that adds up to a very frustrating press conference from Perry Manosian. Thanks for making Locked on Angels your first listen of the day. 1. Michael King incoming. Resign Jansen. Trade Ward plus Dana for Austin Riley. Sign Cedric Mullins. Add one or two BP arms. I think Perry goes out with a bang

  2. Anthony Rendon is NOT injured. He was paid to go away. Surgery made it so insurance paid his salary instead of the team. As a pro athlete, he probably has an X-ray on 10 different body parts that could use a surgery. We'll never see him again.

  3. Trout in LF, Teodosio in CF, Adell in RF.

Trade Ward after his good year

Trade Soler and his attitude for whatever you can get

Consider Max Kepler or Ramon Laureano to rotate in and out of DH/LF/RF.

  4. Make Rendon report to AZ facility ever day, watch video, work on upper body activities, talk with minor leaguer's on hitting, walk on treadmill, scout college players, pro minor leagues. If he gets frustrated suspension, persuade,( force)him to accept buyout or determine if he’s worth keeping around, maybe having Albert as MGR it will rejuvenate him. No trading players without new scouting strategy led by someone other than PM. Albert & company new hires within & without analytics choosing intrinsic leaders. Guys start compiling lists of free agents that make sense, be GM helpers🤣🤣why not? Who are going to draft in July LETS GO!!!! To be continued… dig your show

  5. Caden Dana and Sam Aldegheri both took a step backwards in 2025. Neither projects as an MLB starting pitcher next year. That could change next Spring Training, but I wouldn't count on it. Caden Dana needs to develop a third pitch. Aldegheri might never be MLB ready.

On the positive side, George Klassen will be given a real shot at a starting role next year. He's getting close to making the jump to the majors.

  6. A gm can’t speak specifically on FA their going after, so the most they can say(which they did) was saying it’s the biggest priority as well as saying looking at all avenues(trades)

  7. I don't blame Perry I blame Arte. I've said this before Arte is not a business owner, he's an advertiser. That's how he got his money. The reason he's so involved is because he's looking to advertise the players in anyway he can. He's trying to get the money out of us because he flashes a new player. I don't want to suggest this but I feel like this is what has to be done to force Arte's hand and not attend games. I know attendance is low but boycott them. Or limit the amount of times you go. I only went once this season. If he can't get his money from us through advertising he'll be forced to sell to someone who wants the team to do better and help build the team to a marketable competitive team.

  8. The reason why they look like the brewers one night and a different team the next is bc they don’t have the player personnel to run that. Everyone sans Nolan, Neto, trout would have to go + youd need the coaches/manager who can teach/run that style

  9. Trout has to be the full time DH. He hasn’t proven he can stay on the field, it’s too big of an investment and his bat is too important to get less than 140 games out of him

  10. Perry's answers which were so typical as we all know, which made me wonder why all of you seem so anxious and wondered when they would have the season wrap up. Next…

  11. THE quote . . . From Sam Blum and his piece in The Athletic, "The Angels are never good; they simply credit themselves for being different iterations of bad." Boom!

  12. The discussion of third and second base reminded me that DJ LeMahieu is available. I know he’s been around a while, but he was batting .266 when the Yankees let him go. He looked good against the Angels in New York.

  13. A full-on boycott is the only solution. Don't give this team one nickel of your money! I'm waiting for Arte to go away before I'll come back. BTW, it makes no difference at all who the GM is, or the manager, or hitting coach, pitching coach, bench coach, team president, or hot dog vendors are, as long as Arte is still here.

  14. The Halos aren't going to have a hard time getting a quality manager when they know the GM is going to be gone after the 2026 season. However, we all know how cheap Arte is, and he won't ditch Manasian as he would have to pay him out.

  15. The Angels have not been a good team since 2015. Would have resigning Shohei Ohtani in 2024 have changed that trend, no one knows for sure, but having the best player in baseball on your team makes your team relevant. The truth is the Angels are not a relevant team in the overview of MLB. Unfortunately, we will wallow in irrelevance for the foreseeable future.

  16. Hi Mike & Jon !!
Thank you guys, another great show !!
Perry's press conference like you both said, just full of stock, evasive answers.
    Basically nothing but boring.
    No accountability.
We all know that Arte is the overbearing shadow in the room who gives his people zero chances to speak the truth.
Read an article this weekend that said,
Arte is the worst owner in MLB, a meddling micro manager who doesn't trust his own baseball people and basically demands that he make all decisions.
The article said that Arte and Jerry Jones of the Dallas Cowboys are one and the same. Mega rich who consider themselves to be experts on everything.
All driven by ego and a feeling of superiority.
Just guess Perry is just trying to hang on for the last year of his contract.
Too bad he can't tell it like it is and say who is the reason why we are the laughing stock of baseball.
We've all known for a long time that Arte is the reason why we're losing and Mike & Jon you both are so right that 2026 will need a miracle job by the new manager and players.
    Guys your statement about 2026,
    Skaggs trial
Ballpark infrastructure with the City of Anaheim
Collective bargaining contract with the players union
    Rendon's 35+ million still owed
Honestly I'm kinda apprehensive about next season.
There is just so much baggage we gotta get through.
Just gonna breeth and let it play out.
We do have potential, just gotta hope for success.
    Take good care everyone
    Go Angels !!!!

  17. Can't miss ? Wasn't the Managers fault. You have to get better players. It Albert is the next man up He needs to tell Arte to spend Money on 3-4 Very Good players, Quit bringing in players that no one else wanted

  18. Not one word you said this entire pod cast surprised me. The heading on the thumbnail of "Same Old, Same Old," was just what I and I'm sure alot of other fans, expected. It's been going on since the mid 2000's. I honestly can't remember when we had a #1 and #2 pitcher on the staff, or who they were. Like Jon, I'm over allowing myself to get upset with the Rendon situation. No one upstairs has the balls to do what needs to be done to get rid of him.

  19. Moreno needs to be sat in front of TV during playoffs with "eyes locked open" like in the movie Clock work Orange.
So he learns how to get out of the way and let baseball people do baseball things… ONLY S!GN CHECKS GEEZRRR

  20. I wish the press conference had been what Mike described which is a rebuild.

I think most of us think the team is in a partial rebuild and needs more aggressive steps. However Arte thinks we are one player and manager away
