I will forever be grateful for what he did in 2022, but he hasn’t been a great playoff pitcher outside of 2020 and said year we won the ws. This isn’t a hate post on a Framber. I know he’s hot headed and does some stupid shit, but I still enjoyed his tenure with us. Just don’t think we should retain him this offseason.
On a side note, I didn’t realize how bad fried has been in the postseason outside of ‘21 when the Braves won it all. Guess he’s pretty similar to Framber in more ways than one. Funny how 3 of the 5 pitchers here are all lefties who are known for their curveballs.

I’d consider bringing back Framber at the right price. For the sheer fact that he IS a workhorse & he consistently posts innings. He stays healthy. That’s valuable. Plus, when he’s on…he’s one of the top arms in the league. Additionally, we wouldn’t have to give up a draft pick to sign him, whereas we would if we signed somebody like Cease (who I expect us to have major interest in).
Framber exceeded my expectations by a mile when he was first called up. He arguably has the best sinker and curveball in the game today. He has the talent to be a perennial cy-young candidate. But we all know his issues are mental, making him extremely difficult to rely upon. I welcome him back if he does return, but I do prefer we go after Cease or Ranger instead.
He throws a lot of innings he’ll be harder to replace than people want to admit after he became a bit polarizing this year. Hes a damn good pitcher.
I don’t think Crane will open the wallet to bring Framber back but this is understating how good he has been. He’s been one of the best regular season pitchers in baseball, and while he has for sure been worse in the playoffs, he started a World Series winning game.
There’s a reason Nathan Eovaldi – 3.90 ERA but one of the best active postseason pitchers with a 2.80 postseason ERA in 70 innings – can only get short term deals and has never signed a contract richer than $75 million, and Framber is going to get double that this offseason.
He’s most likely gone. This team will go absolutely nowhere if we don’t get at least 1 (ideally 2) proven arms this offseason, though.
I think this is Framber at his worst , he lost focus and posted a 3.59 era… he is a typical low 3 high 2 era , this was just a bad year for him
I’m not sure if the team/clubhouse wants him back after the Salazar thing and throwing others under the bus for his screwups a few times last season, but if he can get his emotions in check, he’s worth keeping just for the sake of giving the BP a break due to his health and longevity. We’re probably going to have a very young rotation that will peter out late in the season and the BP will be overworked because of it. BUT I think he’s gotta be willing to take non-ace money simply because of the relative unpredictability of his temper.
Framber ended up turning into Jose Urquidy
DiMaggio and Judge are also merely solid journeymen
You’re right. I was flamed before the season saying the same thing. People throw around Ace too much and I wasn’t sure we had one going into the season and I’m on the fence about having one now. Hunter has the mentality to take it to the next level but Framber doesn’t
He throws innings and he throws innings
Hard disagree, I know we’re trying to get over a break up here, but Framber is in elite company with Hunter Brown, Paul Skenes, and Tarik Skubal. For crying out loud, you’ve got Aaron Judge and Clayton Kershaw on that same graphic!

Something I hate is the dude was open about getting a sports psychologist one year and he has been rewarded for being open by being branded a head case. Lots of other pitchers implode when things go wrong and I’m sure many of them use sports psychologists but because they didn’t talk about it they just are considered to slump occasionally. Any of those other 4 in the graphic considered head cases? Framber has absolutely been an ace. JV posted a 4.5 ERA in 2014 and a 3.8 in 2017 before he came to Houston – he wasn’t an ace?
I feel like his price might have come down enough to retain him. We can always use a lefty that eats innings. I would not be sad if we don’t keep him, but I feel like he could be more affordable after this last 6 weeks.
I don’t see how we can replace him. Bring him back if possible…
Some shit team will give him 200 million because he can pitch 180 innings and under 4 era every year.
And if you take out his great 2022 run, his ERA in the postseason is almost 6.00. He’s been terrible outside of that year.
This is massive copium. He’s an ace, and his recent displeasure with whatever doesn’t change that.
I have never been more confident in my life than being able to identify in Framber a person that will mail it in as soon as they get their fat contract. In addition to everything else that happened this year and previously for that reason alone I want no part in that big deal moving forward.
