Three days away from opening night for the Dallas Stars as they kick off their 202526 season against the Winnipeg Jets on the road. And the Stars are making plenty of roster moves and we’re going to dive into those today and why they are making them. Also, Radic Fox’s importance. Maybe I have to put my hand up and say I was wrong about Radatic Foxite. And we’re gonna just predict the lineup for opening night as well. Have a little bit of fun before we wrap up today’s show as well. So, please be sure to hit the subscribe button, drop a comment as well. Let me know how you’re feeling about this upcoming season for the Dallas Stars. It’s going to be an absolute blast. Pleasure to be with you. So, let’s dive right into all the roster moves the Stars have made over the last two days. And many Stars fans are are used to this, especially a after last year. The the Stars had to move Lean Bishell down before the beginning of the Stanley Cup playoffs in order to activate Tyler Sean off the LTIR and then they added Lean Bishell back to the roster. So, I think we’re seeing some of those moves as well over the last couple of days. So on Sunday, the Stars ended up loaning back to Texas Justin Ritskcovian, Cameron Hughes, Artuhuru, and Vladislav Kolio Chonach. Uh Kolon was placed on waiverss and he passed. So he cleared waiverss, didn’t pass, but he cleared and he has been assigned back to Texas. Now when it comes to Ritzcoian and Huru, I believe Ritzcoian is going to be on the opening night roster. That’s at least my prediction. And now I think you could even say Artu Kuru has a really good chance of making the opening night roster as well with Oscar Beck being placed on the IR today. Now Jamie Ben who has also been placed on the IR. The Stars may end up moving him to the LTIR since it’s predicted he’s going to miss at least four weeks. It could be even longer than that. So today, specifically today, the Stars actually recalled Harrison Scott and Trey Taylor from the Texas Stars and then Leon Bishial was loan back to Texas. Now, this one has to be purely uh a paper transaction. So, for any Stars fans out there that are like, “What are we doing? What’s going on?” You will not have to worry. Leon Bishell’s going to be on this team. Did you see the final preseason game the other night? My goodness, he’s out here delivering body checks like it’s game 52 and he’s beating the snot out of Colorado Avalanche players, which was thrilling. Absolutely thrilling from Bishop. Can’t wait to see that in a full 82 game set here this season. Man, I love him. I’m ready for him to be a top four defenseman. We talked about that with Ryan a bit. Uh, I think it was his brother that is pretty adamant about Bishel becoming sort of that top four caliber defenseman in Dallas next, but Neil Sloanquest is going to get an opportunity. We’ll get to that a bit later on, but no worries there. So, uh, Harrison, Scott, Trey Taylor were recalled. Now, there’s a few reasons behind these moves. Believe it or not, it’s actually more beneficial for Dallas. And if I’m not mistaken, it’s more beneficial for Dallas to get as close to the cap ceiling as possible before they put Jamie Ben on LTIR if they are going that route because then they are able to acquire some more cap space, right? Uh and then it allows them to be more flexible uh as well. Now, with Beck potentially out for at least the next week or so, who knows about his status on the weekend? He uh is certainly, I would predict, not going to play against Winnipeg on uh what is it, Thursday night. Now, uh they probably will end up bringing in an extra forward. Um, I I think if everybody was healthy, they’d probably carry uh they probably carry 13 uh or maybe even 14 or no, they would carry 13, excuse me. But now they may carry a couple extra uh just because of some nerviness about who they’re going to have and they just want to be extra safe really is is the point I’m I’m trying to make. um they want to be safe with starting the the year on the road too. Um after Winnipeg, uh they end up going to uh Colorado just two days later. So there is a uh a lot of concern, I would think, from the stars about making sure they just have bodies. Um and if you’re not going to have Beck on the weekend, then they may end up recalling Ritzovian and Huru. Uh they of course still have bodies, right? Bastion can can step in. Blackwell who may have been wild cards to to make the opening night lineup are probably now going to be shoehorned end depending on on what the Stars do. We’re going to get uh a better idea of of what the Stars are going for um as well um a bit later uh when they officially have to put in their roster deadline. But the the main point to all these moves is to just acquire as much cap space a as possible. Um and if you get closer to that ceiling before you put Ben on IR or the LTIR, then it actually allows them to acquire some more cap space when it comes to bringing up like a Huru or ROVIN who of course aren’t making a lot in the AHL. Um, but uh it still gives them uh more more more space um to to be able to to kind of make some roster moves and transactions here in the near future at least because Oscar Beck was a bit of a surprise. Um I know there was a picture circulating around that he had a I don’t even know what you call it, a guard u on his on his wrist um area. So, um, we we’ll have to get more clarification on potentially what that injury is and how long he’ll be out, but Ben and Oscar Beck are placed on the IR. Ben may go to the LTIR. We’ll see. Um it was also noted that Luke Chris, Kyle McDonald, and Chase Watraftoft have been placed on IR non-roster um of course and we knew about their injuries earlier um in training camp, but uh that is the reason behind uh multiple uh moves that the stars have made and who knows, you know, maybe Ritz Scovian or Huru is not called up for for whatever reason, but I I would predict Ritz Scovian is going to be called up. I I think he’s done enough to make this roster and and frankly I think they need him because he’s going to have some decent upside in in terms of offense if if you ask me. I I think there is going to be some potential there for for him to to score at at this level. Uh maybe not score a ton, but I with with Ben down and now Beck, not like Beck was gonna give you 20 goals this season, but Ritzcoian is a a a scoring center winger, right? Like that’s that’s what he sort of does. I mean, he had a really good season in the AHL and um just seeing what we’ve seen in the preeason, he’s looked comfortable. um he hasn’t looked out of his element and uh I think there’s a confidence there and you’re able to play him with other players that also are going to contribute. It’s not like you’re just sticking him on the fourth line, right? He he may play with a Johnston and Bourke. He may play with a Duchine in Sean. So, there’s going to be opportunities for him to to benefit playing with other players that are more of his skill set than just throwing him on the the checking fourth line. uh which is sort of how we envision what that fourth line’s going to be with Fox, Bastion, Blackwell, whatever combination, right? More of a a checking uh a checking fourth line. So, um just wanted to update all of you on some of those moves. Uh but purely just caps saving reasons. Um and uh it actually is like Harrison Scott and Trey Taylor are actually the highest cap hits um among uh AHL players. So again, that sort of goes back to getting as close to kind of the cap ceiling. As I’m recording this, the Stars have 148,000 uh just north of that projected cap space. Um so I would think next next day, couple hours, we may see some the final roster moves and then we’ll exactly know what the lineup is going to be. I touched on Reic Fox up and and I and I do want to talk about him some more because look, I may have been a bit harsh on on Fox for a few reasons, but now I’m thinking, yeah, he he’s going to be important now, especially with some of the injuries and and why I think it it was smart that Dallas uh went out and signed him. Maybe not for the amount of money, but you can never complain about depth. We’ll do that in just a moment. Today’s episode of Lockdown Stars is brought to you by Monarch Money. So, this is where I begin the segment saying I was wrong about Radic Foxa. I’m putting my hand up, Stars fans. I may still have questions and concerns uh about the amount of money they gave Radic Foxa, but I’m not going to really worry about that too much. Um, and the only reason I I say that is because in the modern NHL, it’s so important the the value you get for certain players because it does affect what you can do down the line and we have seen that just as recently as last summer with Dumba Labouchkin um and some other signings. But, you know, I was watching him the other day in in the preseason game and I just thought to myself, you know what? He is stable. He’s reliable. And now with Beck out, the Stars just need somebody that can lock down that fourth line. Lock down that 4C position. You can never have too many good centers. Foxa knows what the heck he’s doing. He’s been there, done that. He’s actually a pretty good postseason performer for the St. Louis Blues LA last season. And I think right about now the Stars and and and they are thinking, man, it’s it’s nice that we we went out and brought him back because the Stars are going to flirt with injuries throughout the season. They’re going to have issues. That’s just the the nature uh of this game. And when you can pencil in some guy in your bottom six every game, you know what you’re going to get. He’s consistent. He’s always available to think about his career. It’s not like he’s missed much. Last year, he played 70 games. His final year in Dallas, he played 74. Uh he played 77 the year prior. He’s he’s always playing 85 90% of the schedule. He’s 31 and he’s going to be a stable force. Going to be able to set the tone for you. Reliable defensively. Hopefully chips in a bit too. Right. In in the goal scoring department, we’ve seen him hit what I think he had 15 one year. Yeah, he had 17 even even one year. It’s not what he’s going to give you um at this point. But Dallas needs somebody like him right now when you look at the roster sort of change. Hasn’t changed a ton. Um but they have obviously decided to go uh a bit different of a way um besides you know just skill and speed like we saw the last couple years under the bore like they went out and got a Bastion got some guys that can bring a physical presence. I think Fox is a part of that too. who we know he plays a hard-nosed type of game. Really good in the corners. Think is going to help out Gulletson in this system of they they seem to want to hold on to the puck a bit more in the offensive zone. It’s something sort of jumped out to me over the last couple preseason games. Holding on to pucks, cycling, and creating offense that way rather than maybe just relying a ton off the rush. Of course, it’s going to be there. stars are talented, but uh being able to to turn cycling and and and hard work on the walls into to offense, filtering pucks on on net and such. And look, I uh it’s maybe too hard on on Fox. And I’ll give credit to a lot of Stars fans in the comments saying this is a great signing. This is smart. Uh they they like that signing. And you know, I I I did too to some degree. uh just the the number may have been a bit, you know, kind of mindboggling. Not mindboggling, but just uh maybe you could have find some some better value somewhere else. You know, like a Jack Roselvic is still out there. It’s a guy that always sort of intrigued me. Um he’s still actually available, which is funny enough. But again, you bring in a guy like Foxa, he he knows Dallas. He’s going to understand the system, how Golden wants to play, and he’ll just be a steady presence for you. And I think Dallas is I think Dallas really really needs that because there is some questions on who’s going to play with who. And I think why Dallas sort of figures that out, why Gulson, the coaching staff may experiment a bit. they have a steady fourth line and they’re not going to have to worry about that. They can pencil in 12, they can pencil in 11 and 15 and just sort of be fine. And then uh you have you have you have a lot of good talent up front. And I think that’s what I’m so optimistic about. Dallas is just going to be able to figure it out. They’re going to go in to opening night with a certain lineup in mind and I bet it changes in two weeks and it’s going to be completely different. The lines get shuffled around in. It probably should to some degree unless maybe the stars just go guns ablazing, but there’s so many different combinations and you had Ritz Sco in the mix who I think’s going to get a chance to to be on the opening night roster. They may want to kind of move him around, find what where he compliments a certain player better. or where he fits better or he fits into a certain role um or the role they want him to play. So I just I I I this is all sort of a long form answer or a long form way of saying this is this is great that that Dallas has Foxa and I I think he’s going to have a really really good year. um and really going to solidify that fourth line and whatever injuries get thrown their way. Hey, at least Fox can fill in. They know what type of player he is and uh I think he’s he’s going to have a a really really good season. He’ll contribute. We know what he can do on the faceoff dots. He’ll be really strong in the PK. Like he can just affect really all types of game, all types of situations in the game. maybe outside of the the power play uh of course, but the Stars have plenty plenty of talent to to fill all of that. So, um yeah, I just I’ll say I was wrong about Radic Foxa. Um, and uh, you you sometimes I think especially when you get to the, you know, the end of the spring and you get to the to the the real meat and potatoes of the season, which is the Stanley Cup playoffs, you always get stuck in the tunnel mindset of playoff playoff playoffs. But you also have to sort of step back and be like, okay, starts have to play 82 games, then they can get to the playoffs. And and players like Radic Fox help you win. They’re a positive impact, sort of a net positive. We we’ve talked about that quite a bit. Players that uh they may not positively impact you on the score sheet, but they’re not going to negatively impact you either defensively. Just kind of zero some players. Joel Hanley was always sort of an example of that. It’s not like he was going to be, you know, crazy impacting the game, but he also wasn’t going to give up much. And uh you you’ll take that. uh you’ll take that over players that are going to negatively impact you, right? Um and Fox will be a positive impact on the Stars this season. So, I just wanted to issue retraction, put the hands up, got to hold myself accountable. When I watched him, I like, you know what, Fox is going to be just fine. Maybe maybe the Stars do need some of that um here this season. So, anyways, look forward to to seeing Foxa on opening night. And what is that opening night roster going to be like? You let me know in the comments below. Give me your line combinations. Give me your defensive pairings. I’m going to predict the lineup because why not? We’re three days away, 72 hours from Dallas Stars hockey. The meaningful games start. So, let’s have some fun predict the lineup in just a couple of nights. We’ll do that in just a moment. So, all of you Stars fans out there, uh, go to buckedia.com and we can, uh, play along with, uh, one another here and sort of predict where the stars are going to go with the opening night lineup. The the one currently on Puckedia I like, but I’m going to make a m a few changes because it it is going off the the players on the roster currently and and right now uh, like a Ritzovian isn’t up there. Uh, Huru or Bishell of course. So, um, let’s let’s do it as if I thought this was the opening night roster. Um, and you do that as well in the comments. I don’t think they’re going to overthink it off the hop with the top line. I know they’ve tried some some combinations. We’ve seen Steel during the preseason even for a cup of coffee. Uh, I believe we’ve also seen Bourke or maybe it was Johnson up there. We’ve seen a little bit of everything, but I I don’t think they’re going to overthink it the first go around. Hence down the middle, of course, centering between Roberts on the left, Ranton on the right. That’s my prediction for the top line. Not going to overthink it. We get it. They’re great. They’ll be fine. Now, second line, I’m I’m all for and that’s where I’m going to stick to. Duchain between Steel and Sean. Uh I’m I’m sort of going on the record. I’m going to put out season predictions tomorrow. We’re going to have some bold predictions. Um, and uh, I know the Stars don’t play, but opening night is tomorrow for the NHL. So, I’m going to put all my season predictions like I did last year. We’re going to rank uh, the Western Conference. I think I did the East last year. Maybe I didn’t. Uh, we we’ll see. Uh, but also put some bull takes in there. Some bull predictions. Steel, I think, is going to be part of that. Um, and you’ve heard me say it. I I think he’s going to be a better compliment to that line than Mason Marchman even was over the last couple years. And and look, I know that trio was one of the best in the NHL last couple years, but man, do I love me some Stam Steel. Doesn’t mean he’s going to score 25 goals. Um, if he does though, that’s what I did mean. Uh, but I like Steel with Duchain and Sean. I think that’s a really nice combination. Now, this is where it gets maybe a little um intriguing. Um, so I’m going to have Ritzco on the left wing and you’re going to have Wyatt Johnston and you’re going to have Maverick Bourc. That’s third line. Johnston centering. You got Ritzco on the left, Bour on the right. Um, we did see that for a minute. We saw that and a couple preseason games uh ago and I thought they looked really good together. I thought there was some some good chemistry. I know they put Ritz they kind of flip steel and Ritzcoian at points. Um and even Robertson um but I think that’s a good home for him. Two young guys. I I think that’s like it’s sort it could be like your young guns line. You know, you get to hit him with sort of the vets. You got Duchain Sean Steel and then you just have this young energetic juicy line still wanting to prove themselves. I know Johnson’s done a lot here early on in his career, but he’s still not even into his prime. Like, that’s a line that I think is going to be hungry to to just to just prove it, right? Bourc again, he has to prove it that he is ready for the NHL level. Um, well, he’s obviously ready for it, but he prove he belongs um and can score and actually have a big impact this year on Dallas. I I like that you just get three younger guys together. I think that’s your juice. Gives you some energy. You know, Scoving is going to be flying around trying to make stuff happen. Um and and Johnston, I mean, was just unbelievable during the preseason. Not like we’re really going to have to worry about that. Um and then Bourke continues to to improve, right? Um now, the fourth line, well, you would think Beck was going to be in there. Of course, that’s no longer an option. Um at least it it seems that’s going to be the way um for opening night. So, my fourth line, you’re going to have Foxa down the middle. Uh you’re gonna have Blackwell uh on the left wing, I would suppose, and and then Bastion as well on the right is is sort of how I would see that that fourth line kind of shaking out. Um just because you need Bastion now, you need Blackwell with Ben um and um Ben and Beck out. You know, I am fascinated to see like I I like Huru. He’s had a couple really strong moments um throughout camp in the preseason. Uh it may not be opening night, but I would not be shocked maybe against Colorado they would throw Huru on that fourth line um he’s a righty. They could throw him on the right wing um with with Foxa um just to spice it up, right? But if I’m predicting opening night, I think it’s Bastian Foxa Blackwell. Sort of that fourth line. Um, so I guess not a ton of crazy changes or anything maybe totally different than what we would expect. Um, but again, like I’ve stated here already on today’s show, in the next 3 weeks or so, you’re going to see so many different combinations. Um, it’s almost like not worth doing this, but it is fun to to kind of predict maybe what we’ll see. Now, on defense, I I think it’s it’s pretty it’s it’s pretty likely. Um, I will say if if if Hoover isn’t playing, I think he’s going to be the 13th forward is how I see it. Um, now on defense, Lindell Hastin, we get it. Harley Lquist, we get it. And then it’s it’s going to be Bishop Leouchkin and uh, Petravic. He he’s seemed to win the job. Uh, which again, I have probably said since, you know, the middle of June that that Petravic needs a shot. He’s going to have a bigger role this year. Um he’s 33. He look I mean he’s he’s been chosen over guys you went and signed in the off season um to play in the postseason. I I mean he he has been chosen and just pluck from the AHL two years in a row to play like meaningful minutes for the Dallas Stars because they haven’t trusted some others. So uh it just makes a whole lot of sense. He’s your seventh guy. I think is I think he’s really important too because he can give Leouchkin a bit of a rest when he needs it. Leouchkin played a lot last year. He’s playing in those high leverage minutes with uh with with Harley so Petravvic can give him a rest when he needs to. Um it’ll also help I think Leouchkin playing with Bishel so they won’t have to play as much uh just based off being the third pair. So, he’ll be able to uh he’ll be able to to take less minutes. And all in all, I think that’s that’s good for the for the Dallas Stars. Um and and uh the really I think it’s going to benefit Nazertine, going to benefit the Stars come playoff time. More importantly, guys can be fresher. Um, and there’s just a lot more stability back there than there maybe has in the last couple of of seasons because I mean you look at what the last opening night roster uh it was Miro with Dumba uh I think then Lindell Labouchkin maybe um and then Harley Lquiz like there’s a lot of interesting combinations um and we all know like I think three of the four well Bishop wasn’t even up so like three of the four defenseman on the opening night roster weren’t even playing uh when you got to the most important parts of of your season. So, um I guess that goes back to my point of why do we predict it? Well, it’s fun. So, that that’s why we’re doing it. Um and and you’re going to have goal. So, uh we all know there’s going to be some controversy behind that. So, I got Jake on of course D Smith will be uh the backup, but man, I’m fired up. Fired up. Stars hockey returning Thursday just a couple days away. Got the Jets and then you got the Star. Then you got the wild. I mean, it’s going to be a thrilling thrilling opening to this 2025 26 season. Stars hopefully hitting the ground running. They have a couple injuries here, but um uh look, it was going to be kind of the year of some guys that were playing lesser roles the last couple years needed to step up. So, they get to try to step up right off the hop. So, that’s going to do it for today’s episode of Locked on Stars. We’ll see some more moves, so be on the lookout for that. You can follow us at Locked OnStars on X. just retweet a lot of the the news that’s coming out and try to stay up to date on uh all that’s uh happening. So, um yeah, please uh follow us there. You can of course subscribe here. We really appreciate it. We’re almost 5,000 subscribers. Let’s try to get to to that um as opening night rolls around. That would be awesome. And uh appreciate all the love and support as always. I’m going to have season predictions episode tomorrow. Uh I think we’re going to go with that as kind of the NHL kicks off. put some bold predictions in there for Dallas. Um and uh also want to talk about our locked on top 100 players list in a couple days. So maybe we’ll do that Wednesday kind of a uh just one more day of waiting. Um starts out a lot of representatives. So love to to share some of that with you um and more. But um anyways, that’s going to do it. Have a great Monday, Stars fans, and we’ll see you on the next episode. So long.

Opening Night Roster has just been published: I could not have been more wrong lol
Trey Taylor and Harrison Scott make the roster. Lian Bichsel, Justin Hryckowian and Arrtu Hyry did not…
Boy oh boy have I missed these
Could’ve done without the return of Faksa. No hate but just a move that didn’t make sense to me. Could’ve saved some money there. Oh well. Nothing we can do about it now. Least we know what we get with him. Joey you changed your stance. You convinced me then backtracked what the heck lol
Game 6 of the preseason was a spicy game. I knew it would be too. When we play them next week that’s going to be a super spicy game! Can’t wait
The mind games have begun!
The swede is not on the opening night roseter. Taylor is… interesting moves
Wish:
Ritzy hintz mikko
Robo Johnston Duchene
Steel seguin bourque
Faksa Blackwell bastain
Likely:
Robo hintz mikko
Ritzy seguin Duchene
Steel Johnston bouque
Faksa Blackwell bastain
Would love to see a post-season matchup with the Oilers.
Good lineup Joey! I like it. It’s solid.
put a graphic up
When I look at Faksa, it makes me think about the Kaprizov contract. Hear me out. The Wild obviously didn't want to have to pay 17 million dollars for him yearly, but they understand that he is the heartbeat of their team. For their plans, they need him, and couldn't let anyone snag him for his asked price. Maybe the Stars plans absolutely included Faksa in the lineup (not to say he's the heartbeat of the team lol) and someone else was going to offer him at least 2 mill so he said pay me 2 mill and I'll come back, otherwise I'm going elsewhere. Thats how I can rationalize the contract anyways.
