This post a month ago that was downvoted to the netherrealm ⬇️👎📉 that predicted Cootes will make the roster… 👀

  1. Correct me if I’m wrong but just cuz he’s makes opening night doesn’t mean he’s staying the full season

  2. I doubt Roslovic factored in at all. It’s clear he overvalued his worth and priced himself out.

  3. Ideally we signed Roslovic on a cheap deal to be our 3C and give Cootes another year in Seattle. But im happy for the kid.

  4. Good for the prediction but it makes sense why people weren’t thinking he was gonna make the team. 18 years olds rarely make the league first year and when they do they’re top 10 picks. Add in the fact he’s a smaller kid and didn’t light the dub up it adds up. Also his skating is so much better than I thought it would be like I don’t remember hearing about it so assumed he wouldn’t be able to keep up with the pace of everything. Him making the team out of camp is huge for the kid and the organization. Now time to see if he can stick but I think we are all rooting for him!

  5. >I think that’s why we haven’t signed Roslovic, they see and know something about this kid and thats why he’s already been signed an entry level deal

This statement is still categorically false. Cootes and Roslovic have nothing to do with each other. The original poster got the right answer, but did the work wrong.

Roslovic hasn’t been signed because he doesn’t have a place on this roster. His offensive skills do not offset his defensive lapses.

Management had no expectations of Cootes playing this season. Cootes was signed to an entry level deal because he did not intend to go the NCAA route, and was eligible to receive a signing bonus of $97k. The minimum expectation would be for Cootes to play in the WHL this season, the AHL next season under the new 19-year old exception, and in the NHL somewhere down the line.

Cootes forced his way onto the team with his play. It’s a good development for the team, and not something many people saw coming. Predicting this outcome is great, but it was hard to support the prediction before seeing Cootes play any games.

  6. I, for one, was always high on the kid. Not completely surprised at this outcome. I’d rather be optimistic and proven wrong than be negative and be proven right.

  7. I was going to downvote you since I assumed it was going to be a screenshot of your own tweet.

    Credit where credit is due!

  8. As a fan I am excited to see him play.

But I still think they’re taking a massive and unnecessary gamble with his development by not sending him down to the WHL. Hopefully it pays off.

  9. People were on all about his development comparing him to Virtanen.

    Terrible comparison.

Cootes has been solid so far. His focus is solid.

  10. I’m glad you were right but if I had a Time Machine and could go back two months, I’d still downvote a take like this.

The last 18-year old to make this club was 35 years ago, so you’ve got to understand why it people would downvote it. But now you have every right to say, I told you so. And I’ll happily take this L.

  11. I think people didn’t want to believe the centre depth was that bad, but you are going to see everyone say it is a great idea and we’re for it as that is what normally happens

  12. Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t this basically just due to the injury to Hogs? He definitely earned those 9 games though.

  13. Where you listening to Drance? He mentioned the big club was serious about giving him a real shot in late August I believe during development camp.

  14. I honestly saw this and said no fing way. But here we are .. I am shocked that you’re right , but right you are.

I didn’t downvote it, but I laughed internally.

    Props to you.

But I seriously doubt it had anything to.do with Roslavic. This kid just forced his way onto the team, partially due to lack of depth.

  15. Love everyone downvoting him and now people saying he’s the oracle we are as a fanbase truly 100 or 0 no inbetween.

  16. I forgot about the 9 games thing, makes a lot of sense to give him the reps and then have his contract slide.
How does a players pay get effected by a contract slide? Just elc rules slide for a year or is it only for waiver rules and other stuff like that.
