MLB Now | Milwaukee Brewers lead Chicago Cubs 2-0 in NLDS series – Brian Kenny debate
face the highest runscoring inning. In theory, fellas, I’m a big champion of this uh strategy. You uh you attack it full throttle, however, given up a three-run shot. From there, go to Nick Mir is a guy who’s used to traffic. Then they bring in the Miz. Jacob Miseroski, electric rookie. He goes three innings, four strikeouts. Chad Patrick, Jared Kanigan came on, a left-hander. At that point, they’d used their right-handed pitching, uh right-handed hitters, rather. So things were just very interesting throughout, but they started with the opener. Overall thoughts, we thought managerial check time, Chris Young, we’ll start with you. Your thoughts on again, we thought it would be Quinn Prester right after the opener, Ashby, but it wasn’t. But your thoughts on using an opener in the general theory yesterday? I I liked it in the way it was used yesterday. It’s just when I see Aaron Ashby starting the game, I’m assuming he’s only giving you one inning. I did not think he was going to be able to go out there in the second inning. I’m assuming you use him. you’re trying to find a way to neutralize as many bats as possible and that’s Michael Bush. So So for the Cubs, if you’re if Michael Bush is a matchup guy similar to the Tigers and and uh Carrie Carpenter, if you find a way to take the at bat out of Michael Bush’s hands even for that one at bat, I think it’s worth it to have Aaron Ashby in there early and then now you have to burn a guy off the bench to be able to bring Michael Bush into the game at some point which could help you later. But I like the Aaron Ashby call. I just thought the plan going in they had him they had him going too long. But I’m completely fine with Mizarowski coming in and following him. It didn’t matter to me if it was the Miz or Priest. I like Miserowski pitching at home. And I think the Brewers are put into a situation to where you have to put trust into somebody. Are you gonna put trust into Mizarowski or Robert Gastra or Chad Patrick, whoever it may be? With the stuff that The Miz has, I think with the potential, you know, injury, although Canana is on, he dealt with the calf. With Canana being banged up and with Wood being hurt, you got to have three starters that you’re going to put some level of trust in. Right. Right. Mr. Rowski showed Let it fly, man. I got I got it. I want this moment. And he stepped up big. So, props to them. I liked the point counterpoint counter strategy with like, okay, now Craig count. All right, here’s Justin Turner. It also brings a guy, you know, Bush slugs 550 against right-handed pitching. So, you’re taking a big weapon off. You use him later, but it’s not the same as having him in the lineup throughout. Yeah, I mean, anytime you can force the other team to adjust their lineup in a way that they don’t want to do, that’s a good thing. Pat Murphy deed us all out. We were sitting in these chairs yesterday, BK, saying, “Well, they’re going to start Ashby and then Paser’s going to come in and pitch the next five, six innings.” They were playing a bullpen game the entire time. I like the idea they did it at home. Miseroski is a kid who feeds off the crowd, feeds off the emotion. Uh, you don’t put him in a road ballpark where he’s gonna, you know, maybe be in out of his sorts a little bit. Uh, and now they’ve got Pritor ready for game three. You could come back, I believe, with Peralta on regular rest in game four and uh, and then game five, everything all hands on deck. You get that far, but if things go the way that they’re planning, there won’t be a game. Like when uh, when you have an opener come out and he gives up runs immediately, it feels like this is a failed strategy. What are we doing? We should, and I’m always trying to point out a starter will give up runs, too. It’s the highest run scoring inning. But of course, I’m hoping for a better result. Like, usually if you have a guy attack those three outs, you have more success than a starter who knows, I’m going four, five, maybe six innings. Sure. Absolutely. And and we’ve seen that time and time again. The Brewers have done it plenty of times. They they’ve employed their strategy a number of times. Their starting pitching situation with injuries is forcing them to be a little creative. They got creative. They I mean sending Pster out to the bullpen, letting him warm up out there at the beginning of the game, making the Cubs think he’s going to be the one coming in to follow and then he just sat out there the whole game and then he threw a bullpen at 11:00 at night. He said it was the latest he’s ever picked up a baseball in his life. That’s I don’t understand the benefit of that though. Like I don’t understand the benefit of of of trying to trick somebody. It’s either Preachster or Miserowski. Either way, that’s not changing I don’t I don’t think that’s changing your lineup that much. As soon as Pastor comes in the game or Miser Rossi comes in the game, Craig Council is gonna adapt. At the point, it’s these two guys messing with each other. We have pictures here of of of Murphy and Craig Council. Murphy was the uh you know uh bench manager, bench coach, you know, for for a number of years of council and council played for Murphy. So that that seems to be a little there’s a little personal cat and mouse going on here. Spy versus spy, right, against each other. Are we sleeping on the Brewers a little bit? I know. I love even I love big boy baseball. Phillies and Dodgers like, “Oh, that’s nice. Brewers with their best record in baseball. How cute. I’ve been wide I’ve been wide awake on the Brewers this entire time. No, no, we we do the Brewers constantly, but yet and we’ve always talked about they don’t hit the home run a lot, but they have enough guys to over a short series can hit the home run just enough to be able to slug you. They did with Vaughn last night. They play good defense yesterday. They still do. They run the bases. They maximize things. But no, nationally, they’re not being taken seriously as the best record in baseball, are they? Nationally, that’s because people don’t they don’t have the stars on their roster. They don’t have the show Otani, Bryce Harper, Aaron Judge type players. Even a guy like Julio Rodriguez who’s been on the national stage a little bit, gotten a lot of a lot of commercials. Jackson Cheurio doesn’t have that profile. But if you look at that team, they got good baseball players up and down the lineup. I mean, Andrew Vaughn came over from Chicago where he was a lost cause and resurrected his career. Hadn’t hit a home run in 150 plate appearances before last night. Pat Murphy stuck with him. Said said, “You’re my guy.” And you’re my guy. You know, went out there Lou Brown, you’re my guy. The Brewers had never hit a three-run home run in their postseason history. Face the highest runscoring inning in theory, fellas. I’m a big champion of this uh strategy. You uh you attack it full throttle, however, giving up a three-run shot. What is Commissioner Rob Manfred and MLB doing letting small market Milwaukee win. He needs to talk to the umpires and stop this. 😂. The umpire last night behind the plate missed a couple of calls??
If its milwaukee and toronto in world series. I will not watch any games.
