Red Wings Roster Shakeup! Preseason Surprises & Final Cuts 🚨

Hey guys, what’s going on? Hermo back with you. Let’s get into a Red Wings preseason recap and we’ll go over I found some interesting Reddit threads talking about the Wings, talking about some of the roster moves and whatnot, what to expect, talking about uh some of the standouts from the preseason, specifically Michael Branstead Nygard. Let’s get into it a little bit. Um Detroit’s 2025 2026 preseason had eight exhibition games. Detroit finished with a 530 record. Five wins, three losses, zero overtime shootout losses. Some key matchups included September 23rd versus Chicago, the 25th versus Buffalo, 26th at Pittsburgh, 27th at Buffalo, 29th Pittsburgh, 20 September 30th at Chicago, October 2nd and 4th versus Toronto road and home. Detroit won 3-2 in the preseason opener versus the Chicago Blackhawks. I believe I covered this already, but this occurred at the Little Sus Arena. EMTT Finny had a two-point night, goal and assist. Michael Brans Nygard also tallied two assists. Coach Mlulla noted two ways to evaluate the game by result and by execution. The team showed transitions and puck control in stretches versus Buffalo. Detroit cruise to a 5-2 victory over the Sabres. Andrew Cop one goal, one assist. Lucas Raymond two assist. Detroit used mostly veteran lineup on this one. Buffalo’s Noah Oland and Josh Don each had two point nights via power plays in the losing effort. Georgia, Buffalo faced 40 shots and stopped 35. Other preseason games and finale preseason wrapped with the dramatic 65 overtime win over Toronto on October 4th. Detroit erased deficits to secure the game in the road game in Pittsburgh stem 29th. Detroit lost 2-1 what was described in a recap. Pittsburgh got the better of the play early turned a turnover into a goal and Detroit broke the shut out late but couldn’t tie. Uh Detroit during roster cuts before the final parts of the season. Detroit trimmed the roster to 28 players. Nate Danielson sustained a preseason injury in the Buffalo game per reporting which interrupts one of their top center candidates push for a roster spot. Simone Evson a key defenseman was sidelined from preseason training camp with a lower body injury. Standout performers and trends Emtt Finny and Michael Brans Nygard making significant impacts in the opener with the multi-point Knights Cop and Raymond were central to the 5-2 Buffalo win. Detroit’s depth scored showed many non-stars got quality ice time and several prospects got looks even in road preseason games. Injuries and absences. Edison and Danielson will affect the final roster mix and opportunity windows. Unfortunately, offensive depth is promising. Detroit scored multiple games from various lines, suggesting more than one scoring unit. Defensive and goalie stress tests. Some games pushed Detroit’s back and opposing power plays converted. The crease got busy at times. Detroit lead veterans at lower risk matchups and gave younger players heavy opportunities elsewhere. They’re smart. That’s a smart for competitive balance and evaluation. Uh, roster clarity edging in. The trimming of 28 shows where Detroit is heading in terms of final roster decisions. Let’s get into Reddit a little bit. We got some news. Red Wings place Hull and Gustoson on waiverss. It’s happening. It’s happening. This is the best Red Wings day since the last time they waved Justin Hull. Very funny. Holy [ __ ] Rookies are here to say. Let’s go. We got the old South Park meme. Very funny. Two out means two in. I think there’s a space for one to begin with. I think they can keep all three for 23. Uh we have 25 on the roster. Two outs means the rest can stay. I was talking about how Mlelen put it in the game yesterday. This is such a there’s no effing way for anyone who remembers the badcock days. Insanity. So hyped to watch now. Let’s go. The young hero and all this is Ian Mitchell. Him having a good camp and Mlvin trusting him as a safety blanket helped make this possible. Him and Jacob Bernard Dock are two very underrated signings at the time. I’m going to go out and limit and say that I’m excited about McLillin’s first full season as head coach in Detroit. Oh, very good. Not to dance or anyone’s gray, but this is a power move by the wings. I just pumped the fist to myself. Yeah, I feel terrible celebrating the destruction of dude’s careers, but I want to win and I want the rookies to come up. Has to happen. Justin Hole, he’s been pretty mid to say the least. So, I’m not too worried about that. Same thing with Eric Gustin. This is what you got to do. You got to move the old guys out. You got to get the young talent in. That’s how you do it. But let’s talk about Michael Brans Nygard points leaders in the preseason this past preseason. It’s a six-way tie. Ta Thompson from Buffalo, Michael Brans Nygard for the Wings, Wyatt Johnson for the Stars, Josh Norris for the Sabres, Morgan Frost for the Flames, and Hendrickx Lapierre for the Capitals. Now I see Josh Norris and TA Thompson. I I swear Buffalo is so frustrating because they actually do have offensive talent on the roster. They just don’t know what to do with it. They have no idea how to build a team around it. But who cares about Buffalo? This is just causing too many emotions for a Sunday afternoon. At least we seem to have a coach now that seems to empower instead of neuter our young players. Absolutely stoked for this guy. Remember poor Aie Joe in the newsy era. Land is better suited for an assistant coach. Won’t hate him, but holy cow fumbled a lot as our head coach. He was coaching for his job. I went with the vets. Obviously don’t blame the move, but it ran counter to what the team is moving towards. Future requires an infusion of youth and we need a coach, not a hot seat to enact it. Cider and Raymond were the only irisman draft picks to have a full season. Edison finally made the team. Casper start in the AHL. Johansson was a healthy scratch. Since Mlullen, all of the above have proven themselves vital to the team. Now we have 83 more who looked to be getting a shot as fast as Cider did. Very exciting. This is a great example of what I was talking about. You also can’t convince me that Alan had no impact on how our offseasons were managed with respect to player retention and payer acquisitions. You can scapegoat Lan a lot of things really, but there’s really on Steve at the end of the day. Sure, no leaving spots for prospects. They have to win them, but they’ve been so close to turning the narrative and becoming a place players want to play, but moves like waiting forever to rever for Ed, I’m assuming he means Edmonson, where the difference in barely missing the a few years ago. Casper not making the team out of camp was a joke, too. Signing hole because you can’t get a deep prospect to perform similarly to one of the worst defense in the NHL over the last quite a few years. Bottom line is that we are today is a great place to be. So, I’m going to try to be positive. Lots of players didn’t play many games and some uh teams didn’t play as many games in general, but still one point per game and that’s good to see from the lad. We are so effing back. The company he’s gotten that list ain’t too shabby. So, yeah, we’re excited. We’re excited for Michael MBN. We’re going to call him MBN, but we’re excited for Michael Bradste Nygard. Let’s do this right here. A little quick rundown. Best worst team of the preseason, best team of the preseason. We got all sorts of wings. Wings are all over the place. You know, Lucas Raymond, Emtt Finny, Dylan Lin, Michael Brans, Nygard, you see Tyler Sagan in there, Dylan Gunther, Ta Thompson, Jac Jason Robertson. Those are some big names to be compared to. Those are some very big names to be compared to. But yeah, this is very good. This would be their overall ratings. Uh Lucas Raymond 8.28 7.77. Hopefully, we’ll be seeing more of EMTT Finny. But yeah, this is this is good organized. Left wing, center, right wing. We like what we see. We like what we see. And this is why Finny and MBN are essentially mortal locker with the team. I really think both are on the opening night roster. ASP as well. A lot of people think it’ be best to let ASP cooking a little bit in the A. I disagree, but we could actually help us win whole ham and Gus. So versus whole Ham and Gus. So yeah, I 100% agree. I particularly the power play ASP would immediately help. And nobody is going to convince me that a player like Hull or Harmonic is going to play better defensively in a third pairing role. I think seeing a second power play unit yesterday that featured him NBA and Casper being the first out and OT with Lark and Raymond as a clear sign they should be on the team and would be a significant improvement over a little anyone else not named Cider Edmonson or Johansson. They give ASP month and Grand Rapids if they want. I think that’s the plan. Why get him used to the slower speed? Sink or swim baby. That’s why I’m not an NHL GM. I don’t hate your take, but Iman does seem to know what it’s best and I doubt Todd would push when he knows the mission statement. I think those two are better in sync. So yeah, out with the old, in with the new. The young guys, Michael Brans, Nightgart, Axel, Sandine Pelica, Nate Danielson, and Simon Evansson have been kind of sided with injury, but you see the younger infusions of talent coming in. You can see my big issue is with some of the defensive pairings. We get Axel, Sandy, and Pelica in there. Maybe Jack uh Jacob Bernard Docker. See what he can do. Travis Hmonic. He could be a team cheerleader. Give him some pompoms or something. But yeah. Um but hey, that that looks like very good news. Looks like uh Ring’s going to have some youth on the roster. We’re going to be a very young team this year. The young kids look ready. They do look ready. Credit to Eman for his excellent drafting. I got to say these kids look like they’re ready to go. Especially Michael Brans Nygard. I’m very excited. Very, very positive news. But let me know what you think. What do you think of the roster? What do you think about Hull and Gustoson getting waved? What do you think the future of this team looks like? We’re going to be seeing more Albert Johansson, maybe more uh William Voliger got sent down to the AHL. A few other guys did as well. But what do you think of the defensive depth? What do you think about the forwards? Let me know in the comments section down below. Don’t forget to subscribe to Detroit Fan Forum. Really appreciate it. Uh, and like and share the video. If your friends like sports, especially hockey, uh, let them know, hey, this Hermo guy is pretty good. But anyways, that’s enough from me. I’ll talk to you guys later. Go Wings. I thought you said it. I was all right, Spider. So, No, you ain’t all right, Spider. You got a lot of [ __ ] problems. No, I thought you said you were all
