MAJOR Miami Dolphins Rumors: John Harbaugh Or Rex Ryan REPLACING Mike McDaniel?
[Music] Juicy episode of Dolphins Today by Chat Sports. Mike McDaniel. We want him gone. Well, who’s going to replace him? I have two potential replacements for Mike McDaniel on today’s show based off some rumors created by yours truly, but also rumors that are out there from a potential NFL insider. Now, I do want to make this abundantly clear. This would not be replacements for this season. It would be for next season and beyond. Who are those two replacements? Well, the current head coach for the Baltimore Ravens, John Harbaugh, and former Jets and Bills head coach, but current ESPN analyst Rex Ryan. Yes, these are the two names we’re going to be talking about on today’s show. Starting with the current Ravens head coach, John Harbaugh. Now, I know some of you might be thinking, why on earth would the Dolphins potentially be even able to hire John Harbaugh? He’s had the Ravens consistently at top the AFC, consistently in the playoffs, has won a Super Bowl before. Well, I got news for you. The Ravens fans want Harbaugh gone. Our own Ravens rundown host Joey Peterson literally made a video earlier this week talking about John Harbaugh replacements. Yeah, that is how far they are down the rabbit hole in terms of getting rid of Harbaugh. Will it happen? I don’t know. But there is certainly a lot of noise around the team and fan base that they need to move on from Harbaugh and they need new fresh blood at the head coaching spot. So, I do think it’s a greater than 0% chance he gets canned, which means there is an option and possibility in a world we live in where the Dolphins could potentially hire Harbaugh as the McDaniel replacement in January or February. Before we dive more into John and his career, share this video. This is a juicy coaching rumors video. We’ll share it to a friend, family member, just online to Facebook, Twitter, X, whatever you want to call it. Goal is to get 30 shares on today’s show. Appreciate everybody for helping us out spread the word of Dolphins today. Personally, I know some people probably won’t fully agree with this, but I think John Harbaugh would be an absolute home run hire for the Miami Dolphins, and I really do feel that way. I think if he got canned by Baltimore and he wanted to continue coaching, he would be the top option in my opinion. And I would hope that Steven Russ would view him as the top option as well. Harbaugh is sneaky old. I was not aware that he is 63 years of age, so there is a chance if you did hire him, you’d only get him for like five to eight seasons, but I would be fine with that nonetheless. Fun tidbit on Harbaugh. He began his coaching career at Western Michigan in 1984 as the running back and outside linebacker coach. Obviously worked his way through the ranks and up the ranks. was with the Eagles as a special teams coordinator for pretty much almost all of the 2000s and then became the Ravens head coach in 2008 where he has held that position. This is his 16th season as head coach in the NFL with the Baltimore Ravens and he’s had an illustrious career a career winning percentage in the regular season of 61.6% a postseason record of 13- 11 good for 54.2 2% but only resulting in one Super Bowl that came in the early 2010s, that infamous game where the lights went out against the San Francisco 49ers. And he did win AP NFL Coach of the Year just once during the 2019 season. Now, the fascinating thing about John Harbaugh is that he does not specialize on one side of the ball. In today’s day and age, you see almost every hire at head coach jump up from offensive coordinator or special teams coordinator or excuse me, defensive coordinator. Well, that wasn’t the case with John. He was the special teams coordinator with the Philadelphia Eagles before becoming a defensive back coach with the Eagles and then becoming the Ravens ultimate head coach. So he doesn’t have a mind special in terms of offense or defense, which some people view as a kind of downside with John Harbaugh that opposing head coaches will always have an advantage over him in at least one side of the football other than special teams. But I’ll argue I don’t hate that and I don’t think that’s the biggest deal breakaker in the world. But pin comment on today’s episode. Would you hire John Harbaugh if he was available on the open market? Ravens fire him or he leaves mutually part ways, however you want to frame it. He’s available. Would you hire him? Why for yes or N for no? To me feels like an absolute no-brainer. I know he has struggled over the last five to six seasons since the 2020s with postseason performance, but it feels like a no-brainer for a team that has struggled to get to the postseason and have stability inside the organization. I mean, you look at the last six years for John Harbaugh. 2020 second in the AFC North, lost in the divisional round. I believe they lost that year to the um oh, who was it? I’m spacing. I think it was the Bills. They missed the playoffs in 2021. In 2022, they lose to the Bengals in the wildard. 2023, they are the first overall seed in the AFC and AFC North lose at home in the AFC Championship game to the Kansas City Chiefs. And then in 2024 they go 12 and five are first in the division and then lose in the divisional round to the Buffalo Bills and then this year 1 and4 through five weeks and likely going to miss the playoffs. Is John Harbaugh to blame for all of the shortcomings that this team has had in the playoffs over the last six seasons? I think he deserves some blame as every head coach would have because listen, you have a top three quarterback in the NFL and John Harbaugh. You’ve had a lot of good defenses. How have you not been able to break through? A lot of people will point to, well, they’ve had to go through Patrick Mahomes. That’s hard to do. A top three quarterback maybe in NFL history and a top five coach in NFL history and Andy Reid. But as we just went through his last five or six seasons, they’ve only lost to the Kansas City Chiefs in the playoffs one time, who was in the AC championship game at home, a game that they were very capable of winning. So yeah, I am going to blame some of the shortcomings on John Harbaugh. It is deserved. How can you consistently have that good of a team, first in the division the last couple years, first in the entire AFC, and then not be able to get it done? And don’t forget, by the way, when he won coach of the year in 2019, they got upset against the I believe it was, was it Titans that year? And then in 2018, they also lost to the Titans at home. I think they were one seed in 2018 and 2019 if I’m not, they might not have been the one seed in 2019, but in 2018, no, 2018 was the year the they made the playoffs, beat the Chargers, but they lose the Chargers. God, I’m getting hang all mixed up in the NFL playoffs. But either way, it has not been a good postseason performance with Lamar Jackson and John Harbaugh. But the reason why I would still sign and let’s just say this, I would hire John Harbaugh to replace Mike McDaniel if he was fired in a heartbeat because we need stability in Miami. He would provide an instant stability to this organization. He would help stabilize this team and bring in a culture. He would make players want to play for him. And he would also bring in outside free agents to Miami that would want to play for him. John Harbaugh is a wellrespected coach. You will never have to worry about respect in command of a locker room with John Harbaugh. If he was available, the Dolphins should absolutely hire him. We got more to talk about here in a second, but this episode is brought to you by Prize Picks. You and I make decisions every single day. The right decisions on prize picks can get you paid. All you do is pick more or less on at least two player stats. If you get your picks right, you could cash in. Best way to win cash this football season. Which players are going off? Which ones are overhyped? Make your picks in less than 60 seconds and turn your takes into cash all season long on prize picks. I have an entry in for week six here. Prize picks. It’s good to be right. Let’s transition from John Harbaugh to Rex Ryan. Is there legitimate interest in the former Jets and Bills head coach from Steven Ross and the Miami Dolphins? Well, Tony Pauline has had a couple reports about coaches and I know he isn’t known as the most credible source, but if you go back to the Laramie Tonsel trade, Pauline was on that. So, you have to respect him in some degree and take what he says with at least a little bit of a belief that it could be true. Well, he said that the owner, Steven Ross, is expected to target a disciplinarian type of coach with experience around the league. Someone like Dan Quinn, who the Commanders hired just a couple seasons ago. One name that has been speculated as a possibility if Mike McDaniel gets canned is ESPN analyst Rex Ryan. Couple initial thoughts from this report from Tony. I actually like the idea of bringing in an experienced head coach who is maybe not a disciplinarian but coaches hard and make sure his team is playing hard on a consistent basis and commands respect. We saw how it’s worked out early in New England bringing Mike Frabel in. We’ve saw how it’s worked with Dan Quinn going to Washington. Now, I will say Dan Quinn isn’t much of a disciplinarian, but he is a well-liked coach who gets respect from his players. Now, number two from that report, with all of that being said, bringing in Rex Ryan would be one of the biggest mistakes the organization could ever make and it would actually, I think, make things worse than what we currently have. And I firmly believe that. More coming up here on Rex Ryan. But all Dolphins coaching news, rumors, and updates will be found right here. We’ll be the first to let you know when he gets fired. We’ll be the first to let you know every single rumor and update in the coaching search potentially in January. So, subscribe today and join the family. I think Rex Ryan would be as bad as a hire at head coach as you could possibly imagine. I actually will make the most ridiculous statement in the history of the channel right here, right now. I would rather have another year of Mike McDaniel and Chris Greer than to hire Rex Ryan. He has not been in the NFL since 2016, where, by the way, he was fired before the last game of the season by the Buffalo Bills because the players essentially revolted on him and failed to play for him. You think that’s going to work in this day and age? Absolutely not. And let’s not act like he was an elite coach when he was actually coaching, by the way. He only was a coach for two different teams, the Jets and the Bills. He had a 61 and 66 career record, so not a career-winning coach. Yes, he did win four postseason games in six playoff games, giving himself a career 48.9% win percentage. Was a Super Bowl champion with the Ravens in 2000, but he was a position coach, not a coordinator or a head coach. Like people think of Rex Ryan as this good coach back in the day and think people think so fondly of him because he brought the biggest dumpster fire of an organization in the New York Jets to two AFC Championship games in his first two seasons. And I commend that. He had a great start to his head coaching career in the big city of New York with the Jets. But after those two years where he caught lightning in a bottle with Mark Sanchez and those defenses of Bart Scott and company, no playoff appearances and his players for the most part disliked him. He’s simply not a good coach. And any fan of the Dolphins that wants Rex Ryan, I think just has the analyst blinders on. And unfortunately, we do this all the time. The same people that want John Gruden to be the next head coach have these blinders on. We see them speak in the media. We see them create content and are like, “Wow, they seem so likable on TV. Oh, wow. That’s good personality. He’s funny. Feels like a guy that I would like to have in my organization.” It’s different, man. It is. I hate to say it because I’m one of them. Anyone can create good content on the internet. It’s possible. Anyone could do it. Not everyone could be a good head coach in the National Football League. Rex Ryan was not a good head coach. He would not be a good head coach. As you can tell, I would not want Rex Ryan whatsoever near this organization. Who would you would you hire him though? Let me know. Type H for hire or type P for pass. Well, I do want to go quickly before we round out today’s show to that report by Tony Pauline that targeted ex head coaches that are maybe a little bit disciplinarian that have experience. Well, I think these are the three that make the most sense in that mold that are currently available for the Dolphins. Obviously, a coach could be hired or fired and then you would have to think about them like a Tomlin if things went south, a John Harbaugh. Those would be considered for sure as we talked about earlier. But currently available, Mike McCarthy, ex- head coach for the Packers and Cowboys would be an interesting guy. Smart offensive mind, players like him for the most part, was I think wrongly parted ways with the Cowboys, but he also might have just wanted to get away from Jerry Jones to be honest. So he would certainly be a top of the list. I think Robert Salah might be my top guy. current defensive coordinator in San Francisco, former Jets head coach. I thought he was done extremely dirty by the Jets ownership. And I thought he was the person that got blamed when they ultimately went through it. I think the GM at the time, Joe Douglas, is the person that deserves the most blame for the shortcomings in New York. I think Solah is a really good coach. He’s a good motivator, a good defensive mind. We’ve seen him turn around that 49ers defense. sneaky name is Vance Joseph, former Broncos head coach, now current defensive coordinator. Kind of an unbelievable story on how that ultimately transpired, but he’s had that Broncos defense ultimately humming. Could he get a second chance in the league? I certainly wouldn’t put Vance Joseph in my top five, but McCarthy and Salah right now would be in my top five candidates for the Miami Dolphins. I get it if you want to go with experienced people who have been in this position before. That’s why I have McCarthy and Salah high up on my list right now. I also think Ron Va is someone you could be intrigued with. I think I would stay away from Ron, but I would certainly interview him and see if you would be better off bringing him in. If you were to go for a firsttime head coach, I think Joe Brady is an option. Little young. I would be nervous if it’s just another Mike McDaniel. Jesse Mter, who has followed Jim Harbaugh all over the place in Michigan and Chargers, their current defensive coordinator. He’s a very smart individual. But can he lead? I don’t know. And grandson of Donula, Chris Schula, the defensive coordinator in Los Angeles. He’s rising up the ranks. I’ve mentioned Zack Gore in the past. I’ve been very fond of him. The current Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator. Very young. Motivates, gets his guys to play hard, a lot of energy, but I think we’ve seen that he might not be ready for that head coaching gig right now. I like him a ton. I think he’s going to be a head coach in the NFL, but I don’t know if he’s ready just yet. That Ravens defense has been really, really bad this year. Is it all on him? No. A lot of injuries, but that unit has struggled. He needs a little time to get used to being a coordinator before I make him my head coach. All right, that’ll do it for today’s show. – Dolphins owner Stephen Ross could fire Mike McDaniel following NFL Week 6 if Miami loses at home to the Los Angeles Chargers.
– Ross may look to hire a head coach who has had experience with being an NFL head coach in the past to replace Mike McDaniel.
– John Harbaugh could be fired by the Baltimore Ravens following this season if the Ravens miss the NFL Playoffs. Harbaugh has come up short in the postseason each of his last five appearances in the playoffs. He would be a logical McDaniel replacement with his experience in Baltimore.
– Rex Ryan, former NFL head coach and current ESPN analyst, could be an option to replace McDaniel, according to Tony Pauline. Ryan has not coached since he was fired by the Buffalo Bills at the end of the 2016 NFL season.

Rex Ryan. He took Jets to an AFC. If he gets a OC he could change the culture. And John Harbaugh has already 1 a SB. There has never been a HC that has won a SB with 2 different teams. We should’ve had his brother Jim Harbaugh.
Ron Rivera is a woke asshole
So, your opinion is not a rumor numb nuts. Also you have a really annoying monotone voice.
No rex ryan lol
Y
All the Ryan brothers have ever done is ride their daddy's coat tail and it would be the one thing that would turn me against my beloved Dolphins
I'd love Rex Ryan. Dude was a good coach on bad teams. Sure he had a falling out, but enough time away.
We the fans deserve better. We by tickets get the point. No fans no money. make worth🎉. Get an experience coach🎉
Pass
FLORES WITH A New Owner, New GM, New Coach, New QB
we need a gm wtf is wrong with u people
Neither. My first HC candidate would be Lou Anarumou. He's a proven commodity at the DC position and will be great the PHINS locker room.
John H

Yes
Let’s just worry about Grier first. I’ll suffer the rest of the season with McDaniel if it means letting Grier go.
Any coach who would come to this organization, that has any real credentials, would want his own GM to provide the talent he would need to succeed. Meaning Mr. Magoo, Stephen Ross, who lacks any real vision, would need to man up and fire Grier. No matter how good a coach may be he couldn't be successful working with chop liver.
DC Vic Fangio said as much about what he had to work with in terms of personnel when he was here and decided moved on. I won't hold my breath for this to happen.
If Ross doesn’t fire Grier, then the HC job doesn’t matter.
Ryan is a complete clown. Harbaugh overrated based on comments from past players, burns his players out made some really dumb hires look up the facts about his previous strength and conditioning coach, he is getting sued. Plus too old, nope and nope. Main issue get a new GM 1st, more important than a HC with the state the team is in.
Defensive Coordinator from the Packers would be my choice definitely not Gruden or McCarthy 🤨
Why do the Dolphins want to hire a coach that is now seen as a failure and probably getting fired from the ravens organization.
It would be the biggest fail in Baltimore history to let a pro bowl coach like Mike harbaugh go ! He’s completely turned them around and he’s a true leader of men ! He’d be a dream coach in Miami
Yesssss get me Harbaugh
John Harbaugh is not leaving the ravens.
Harbaugh yes, Ryan hell no!
Harbaugh + new GM
Yeah, we have to go GM first before a new head coach. It starts with a GM.
Harbaugh is the better HC but he won't play for an idiot like Ross. Neither would Rex Ryan. Ross wants "yes men" not real coaches and GM's. Ryan would put up with Ross for about 4 games then he's knock him on his geriatric ass.
Give me Louis Reddick for the new GM
