Joe Mazzulla and Chris Boucher perfectly recall their “hold me back” moment in 2023

Buché bumps him. Watch this. Watch coach Missoula. He’s going after Bucher. Gotta be held back by Rob Williams. It does not get better than this. So, this was a game a couple years ago, Joe. And uh you gave Joe a little bump. Yeah. I didn’t even see him. That was cool. I appreciated that. It’s great because Joe, as you know probably already, has a little bit of a of a fiery personality and uh and wanted to come at you. one. What would have happened if he uh if he got to you? Probably would have got real on the arena. We’re all competing to win. So, yeah, I I love that. If Rob wasn’t there, what happens? Ah, nothing. I mean, it’s a classic hold me back moment. What am I going to do? I’m the head coach. I can’t do anything, but it’s cool to fake it at a time. And to be honest with you, I probably would do that again and again and again. Really? I mean, it’s just who I am. I don’t I didn’t see him on that one, but I promise you that I pro it probably would have happened at one one time and I saw you for sure. But on this one, I didn’t see him. and I think we were down 20. So, I wasn’t really focusing on it at all. The world is soft. The league is soft and uh you know, when you can have interactions and and moments, I think uh those things test your competitive nature. And so, I appreciated the fact that he did that. Um I respect that he did it. And uh when we signed him, I told him that um you know, we only signed you to get payback for what you did two years ago and to watch your back. For a lot of coaches, it’d be like, whoa, why would he do that? But for Joe, it’s endearing. Yeah. Yeah. That’s like, have have you guys talked about this yet? Yeah, he this first thing he said. He was like, uh, I remember when you bumped me and I didn’t I didn’t know what where he was taking it from, but he said that uh that’s like the type of guy that he likes. Like, you know, he wants guys that like it’s us against everybody. And I think that it’s just like a mentality that I have. And I think Joe has it too where, you know, we’re not here to make friends. We’re not here to be buddy buddies with anybody. We’re trying to win. We’re trying to get to the goal. And whoever is against us, then be ready to put

“I appreciate the fact that he did that.”
“To be honest I’d probably do that again and again.”

Joe Mazzulla appreciated his altercation with Chris Boucher exactly as you’d expect he would.
