[Paterson] Day before opener

  1. Looks like this is going to be the lineup, basically the same as yesterday. I guess we’re rolling with top 6 Bains in a sink or swim type thing

  2. Ah yes, mr. 1 point in the top 6. Again. Seriously, Sherwood, Kane, Lekk, O’Connor, Raty, Karlsson even Cootes are all more worthly of it than Bains yet somehow Bains and his 1 point got it. Maybe I’ll be proven wrong and Bains will be a top 6 forward but I don’t see it. We should’ve stuck with Podz if we’re doing Bains imo.

  3. With Blueger out, this is exactly what I expect the lineup to look like tomorrow too.

Does anyone else think that, in retrospect, the opening game versus the Flames last year was very indicative of the year ahead? That game still haunts me a little. I’m hoping for a much better result this time around, especially with the Flames being on the tail end of a back-to-back as well as Huberdeau being out.

As always, coconuts glow. I’ll see y’all in the game threads.

  4. Don’t love it but seems okay to me. I get the Bains frustrations but chances are it’s gonna be Chytil and Garland cycling to each other for the most part.

  5. They really want that hometown hero story huh? Hope Bains gets it going.

Cootes is probably walking on air right now. Imagine being 18 and earning a spot in the big league on your own merit.

  6. The bright side is we can pretty much roll 4 lines, cause they all look pretty solid (I mean Bains stands out, but I can see the argument to letting the other lines develop chemistry. I suppose you could give other guys like Sherwood or Raty double shifts if you need to)

  7. I have a blank away jersey, wanting to get Debrusk put on the back. Anyone know if he’s got the A for away games?

  8. Looks like that final game was an opening lineup test except for the bottom pair and Blueger being questionable to play.

I could see a scenario where the lines get blended by the 3rd to give O’Connor or Kane a shift or two with Chytil. With or without a lead.

This is a big opportunity for Bains, hope he makes the most of it.

  9. Love to see the AHL guys graduating into the lineup. I know they’ve all gotten some short looks with the big squad already, but to make the team out of camp is a big step. Feels like the organization is a lot more aligned, where the AHL team is being treated like an actual pipeline instead of a storage unit.

  10. Bains is good along the boards. Maybe there’s some good things happening in practice that we will see come showtime.

  11. Have a feeling the 2nd and 3rd lines are basically 2A and 2B and get even playing time.

  12. D looks great, 2nd line Bains is a huge miss. Seeing the forward line up i don’t feel like it’s top of the league material.

  13. I know it’s not necessarily saying much, but this is one of the more balanced forward groups that the Canucks have iced for a season opener in quite some time. Every one of them is a very capable NHLer for that position. Jury’s still out on Cootes and Bains I guess, but it’s nice to have some exciting youth in the lineup.

  14. Wow it’s almost like keeping lines together creates some sort of synergy and familiarity. Tochett should take notes.

  15. For those that are opposed to Bains on that Garly/Chytil line.

Who would you rather see in that spot?

  16. Everyone questioning why bains is in the top 6 probably understand why were looking for a 2c.

  17. Those middle six lines, yeesh. We need so much to go right for those to be decent, productive lines. I’m excited to see what they can do, but we *need* to find upgrades both at C and on the wing to stack up against playoff rosters in the west. Maybe our D and goaltending can carry us, maybe not.

  18. Don’t quote me but I saw somewhere that Chicago likes Bains. There was that Seravelli report that Reichel was getting shipped out sooner than later and the Canucks were interested in him, as well. Someone on HF suggested that we’re showcasing Bains in the top 6 for a swap (we’d add a late pick).

I like Bains, so this isn’t cope. I’m just trying to spread rumours.

  19. I’m guessing Bains is where he is because he’s a placeholder for Hoggy. It seems like Foote would rather not put the whole lineup in a blender because of one or two injuries.

  20. There is a literal question mark on the entirety of our center-men from the top line to the bottom.

Fascinating how this will play out.

  21. I would like Kane to be on EP40’s line eventually. But I also like him with Cootes to help protect the kid. If we end up sending Cootes to back to junior, we should move Kane up the lineup.

  22. It’s like we have a 1st line and three 3rd lines. Which… honestly isn’t the worst thing, I guess.

  23. Any chance Sherwood is going to move up to the 2nd line? I thought he had a really strong year last year.

  24. Wouldn’t have minded switching Bains with DOC just because I remember Chytil and DOC playing well together last year. Aside from that I hope we can get Hoggy back soon and maybe flip Kane and maybe one of like Bains/Karlsson/Sasson for a top centre or wing.

  25. This has to be one of the smallest forward groups in the NHL. Excited to see Cootes, Raty, Lek and Karlsson though.

  26. Good to see two AHL guys starting and filling in for Hoggy and Beluger. Opportunity is how teams develop. Anyone numbering those three lines that are not centered by EP40 is a fool I will say and needs to go to hockey school. Those three lines will be used situationally in game 1. Game 2 is a new game. Having the ability to roll 3-4 lines is a coaches dream.
