Jack Eichel signs HUGE extension with the Vegas Golden Knights! w/ Steve Dangle | Instant Analysis

What is this? July 1st. Anyone else want to sign a contract? Holy cow. The Vegas Golden Knights signed Jack Eel to an eight-year contract extension, paying him $1.5 million more per season than Mitch Mner, which is weird because Jack Eel has never scored 100 points in a season, and Mitch Mner has. Will anybody have opinions on this and feel some type of way about it? Ah, probably not. Sorry, just had to get that out of the way. The Vegas Golden Knights have signed Jack Eel to an eight-year contract extension, paying him $13.5 million against the salary cap per season. So, if you watch my Kyle Connor video from earlier, I said something that was proven correct almost immediately. We had begun to see the resetting of the market. The cap stayed flat for so long. Now, it’s finally skyrocketing and salaries are skyrocketing. You’re seeing like middle of the lineup guys like Christian D’vorak and like Nick Hey and who else got a big one? Kevin Ball getting like unreal deal signing for 56 million per season. You’re seeing guys like Ivan Prov get eight and a half and you’re like okay he’s fine but eight and a half then Carol Capriov blows all of our minds and signs for $17 million per season and he’s elite and if you watch my video I laid out why he’s elite. He is the cream of the crop. He is probably a top five forward at minimum in the NHL. On his worst day, maybe sixth. Conor McDavid comes in and he didn’t sign an eight-year contract extension. He only signed two, but it was for the exact same amount of money he’s currently making, which you could argue was a discount when he signed it seven years ago. And people thought, whoa, okay, so are people going to look at what McDavid did and you know what, he’s just so hellbent on winning. Everyone’s going to follow his lead and take less. L M AO Kyle Connor signed for $12 million per season with the Winnipeg Jets. That’s an elite goal scorer. He’s not the cream of the crop. He’s not in that McDavid and Dry Cidle and Capri off category, but he’s an extremely good player. He belongs in another category that includes guys like Miko Rantin, who maybe took a little less, and Mitch Mner. Mitch Mner, who just signed an 8-year contract extension in Vegas. He technically signed it with the Leafs, which is a weird little wrinkle, but he’s now in Vegas. And Eel getting 13.5 is getting back to No, no, no. The players are going to get ours. At the end of the day, you’re trying to find as many players for your hockey team as possible who you think you can win a Stanley Cup with. Well, the Vegas Golden Knights can be pretty confident giving Jack Eel money on account of they won a Stanley Gup with him. 27 goals, 66 points in 67 games in what was his first full season after getting disc replacement surgery in his neck. And then in the 22game playoff run he had with the Vegas Golden Knights, he had six goals and 20 assists for 26 points. He was nearly an assist per game. only played 63 games the next season, but he scored over 30 goals and he had a better point pace. Everything was a better pace. Last season, he was very healthy, only missing five games. He played 77 and he had the highest point total of his career with 94. The past three seasons have been Eel’s only three appearances in the Stanley Cup playoffs, but they’ve been very good. I mean, on top of winning the Stanley Cup, he has 10 goals, 33 assists. Guy’s a playmaker, and 43 points in 40 games. He’s over a point per game in the Stanley Cup playoffs. There is a chance, and I I don’t think it’s ridiculous, that Eichel’s line this season with Marner and Barbesev, it looks like, could be the highest producing line in the NHL. They’re both capable shooters, Eel and Mner, who pass first. I don’t know if they’re going to be playing together five on five all the time, but if you look at the forwards that the Vegas Golden Knights have, uh, they have options. Mner makes a lot. Ranton makes a lot. Connor makes a lot. None of them make as much as Jack Eel. Why does Ekeel make more than them? Well, besides the Stanley Cup. I mean, Ranton’s got a Stanley Cup. He’s a center. First line centers do not grow on trees, much less elite ones. Once again, this dude got a disc replaced in his neck. And when he returned to play, he hadn’t missed a beat. The risk the Vegas Golden Knights took on Jack Eel, acquiring him from the Buffalo Sabres, has proven time and time again to be absolutely the right move. Pton Kreb’s careerhigh with the Sabres so far is 10 goals and 28 points. Noah Oland has been extremely good so far in the AHL. He’s 21. Give it a sec. The second rounder the Sabres got from Vegas in the eel trade. Got sent to the Minnesota Wild for Jordan Greenway, whose careerhigh with the Buffalo Sabres is identical to Krebs with 10 goals and 28 points. Obviously hoping for a bounceback season this year. He’s a really capable player. And you might feel bad about losing Alex Tuck if he was anywhere close to as useful as Jack Eel and a Stanley Cup champion. And even he’s in rumors about potentially making double digits on his next deal. The market has reset and Jack Eel is getting what I think is fair market value. Don’t compare him to the Conor McDavid thing. Eight years versus two years. And also McDavid took a discount. Like a ridiculous discount, like an unreasonable discount. You can’t go to your star and be like, “Hey, can you take $6 million less than what your current market value is?” If Carol Capri off is worth 17 over the next eight years, McDavid could have asked for at least that. He got 12.5. McDavid is has no comparison in the NHL like in terms of quality of player style and approach to contract negotiations. And it’ll be interesting to pay attention to how well the Vegas Golden Knights do this season because they’re basically just going to run it back next year. The cap is going to go up, but all these players are under contract for next season. Mark Stone, Thomas Hurdle, William Carlson, Ivan Barbashev, Keegan Kolasar, Brett Hen, Dorf is an RFA. That’s gonna hurt. Petrangelo, Ltir, I know Shay Theodore though, Noah Hannifan though, Braden McNab, Zack Whitecloud, Jeremy Davies, Kaden Corsack. Oh, and did I mention Aiden Hill? Outside of Dorfave, who’s an RFA, you’re at risk of losing like Riley Smith, Brandon Sod, Colton Sisons, Jeremy Lozand, and Ben Hutton. Like, oh, and Akira Schmid. Nope. He’s an RFA too. I think you’re gonna live. When McDavid signed his deal, I said the Oilers are going to win a cup. Like over the life of that deal, they’re going to win a cup. They have a real window to have the team that they already do and add to it. Vegas is in the same position, which is lovely to any hockey fan who loves watching two great teams rip each other apart every spring, whether it’s in the first round, second round, whatever. I almost said third. It’s unlikely, but not impossible. What a player. What a deal. And that McDavid uh uh discount was a was a one-off. After years of laughable salaries, at least compared to their peers in football, basketball, and baseball, NHL players are starting to get paid. I know there was that graphic going around comparing I I think it was Cooper Flag who has not played an NBA game yet and the 15 whatever million dollars he’s making versus McDavid. I know that was going around. The NHL still has a long way to go to catch up to their peers, but the price is going up. That’s good news for them. And if you’re a Vegas Golden Knight fan, Jack Eel is going to be a I almost said saber. Old habits die hard. It’s going to be a Vegas Golden Knight for the next nine seasons. You’re probably feeling pretty good about that. There he is. He’s right He’s right there as a saber. Do you see it? There he is. Got to get that updated. For now, that is it for this one. 1. Not as much of a discount because Mcdavid is the best player of all time but still great to have Jack staying in Vegas at that cap hit! Go Knights Go!

  2. The amount of large-term and big-money signings in the NHL lately is crazy. Respect to McDavid for taking a team-friendly deal. As you said, the Oilers have to win a cup in the next three years given that contract. With the cap rising, that's a lot of cap space for them to use to bring in more depth – in my opinion, that and goaltending were what kept them back from winning a cup last year and the year before. I'm not a Golden Knights fan, but the Eichel deal seems fair given the rising cap. I actually expected the AAV to be higher after the Kaprizov deal on Minnesota, so it's a good deal for the team and the player.

  3. McDavid is unique since he's the face of the NHL he probably makes a ton more money in endorsements than actual salary, which I think is the only reason he would take less than what he's worth.

  4. I think Eichel took a discount at $13.5M as well. On the open market a good 2-way #1 center like him could have easily gotten as much as Kaprizov. Although, if he didn't choose Vegas he probably would have just gone to Boston.

  5. Marner, Connors, Rantanen are all 1 great season from getting in that conversation
Connors CAN win the maurice Richard probably wont but has the skills to make it.
1 win and hes in that convo instantly

  6. McDavid is looking like more of a legend right now. Yes I know he will get paid ridiculously after these 3 years but everyone’s getting paid and McDavid was like nope I’ll take another discount

  7. Conners gift to the oilers took away millions from Jack and the other top players. Conner, why don't you ask the owner to throw in 10 million out of his own money for the team, lol, never in a million years. All Conner did was take away money from the other stars, karill makes 5 million more than everyone else, does that sound right ????

  8. Kaprizov is definitely behind (in no particular order), Kucherov, Draisaitl, MacKinnon, Pastrnak and McDavid, but Kaprizov is a comfortable 6th or 7th (I'd have him with Matthews… if we include defensemen into the convo then I'd also put Makar over him, and maybe Quinn Hughes, maybe.

  9. We need to stop with this nonsense that Kaprizov is a top 5 player.

    He isn't.

For one thing he's a winger which automatically makes him less valuable than a center. And secondly…..the dude is made of glass and can't stay on the ice, whereas the top 5 players are rarely ever injured.

He's an excellent player but he is not top 5

  10. So many were worried about all of the guys in their last year… but lets face it.. most of the big names are now signed.. sometimes it's just that they don't want to travel just to negotiate the final details and wait until camp when they are there anyway.

  11. Jack Eichel is not worth 1.5 million dollars more per year than Mitch Marner. I bet Marner is pissed, this is how locker rooms become divided. They are worth the same to me, It`s just some players are very greedy.
