Center of Attention: What Will the Minnesota Vikings Do at the Pivot Position?

What’s going on out to Romes? So, the center position has been a position of consternation for the Vikings for the last couple of years. Notably, Garrett Bradberry, first round pick back in the day for for years was regarded as one of the worst centers in the game and just constantly him being forklift by Kenny Clark into the lap of the quarterback, it was just no no good. Uh, but the fact that now Garrett Bradberry went to New England and is one of the best centers in the league, I I feel like we should fire Chris Cooper just for that. Also, Ed Ingram is looking good over the Texans. Yeah. I But the question is for the Vikings is what should they do at the center position? All right. So, uh, veteran Ryan Kelly, two concussions in three weeks. Yeah. Placed him on injury reserve, which I think was smart. Uh, is eligible to return week 10 against Baltimore. So, Philly, Chargers, and the Lions after the bye-week, uh, they have to figure out what’s going to go on at center. Uh, if Kelly does indeed return. Uh, and also, you know, the Vikings, you know, the Vikings having issues all over the place where it it just seemed like the first two weeks with AJ McCarthy, there was just blown protections where there were free rushers all over the place. And that’s partially on the quarterback, that’s partially on the center, and it’s partially on everyone, right? And now the blockings have suture things up quite a bit, but just still issues up front, right? And Michael Jorgens’s the backup, uh, filling in for Ryan Kelly, uh, has been up and down. So, he’s played three games this year, 126 snaps, a 45.6 PFF grade, which is not good. Uh, five pressures, two sacks, and four penalties, right? And o overall, we always say take everything with a grain of salt uh, with with PFF grades. and you know trust your eyes you know what do your eyes see as well as you know if you’re re-watching the game as well especially if you get all 22 like things can be different right and basically BFF grades are just so someone’s subjective point of view what other people think right so so they’re not really analytics per se uh but it’s kind of noteworthy right and then then you have Blake Brle against the Browns frankly eyeball testwise Brle played a great game you know Kevin Khn commended him as well but and he checked in with a 41 PFF grade. And to that I say whatever. I I think that Brandle did a fantastic job in the run game. He did good against uh Mason Graham. Mle Collins maybe not so much. But 65 snaps, two pressures, one sack, one penalty. The penalty that wiped out a nice Jordan Mason run was absolute fooar by the way. So it’s it’s whatever there. I honestly think in in just some weird universe like maybe center is the position that Blake Brle’s meant to play and even though he never played a a down of it in the NFL in preseason or regular season or in college probably not even high school maybe that’s where he’s supposed to be right uh and the Vikings right now. So man the offensive line is kind of weird. Uh but Darasaw Jackson should be back after the buy uh from his wrist. Jurgens with the hamstring. TBD. Will Fry healthy as a horse. Love it. Uh then you got Brian O’Neal come back from the MCL. Justin School fought the good fight as a swing tackle in game. Jumper Joe Huber made his first start at left guard against the Browns. Uh Brle center of attention of it. Walter Rouse in there as well. Uh they’re probably going to bring back Rajan Lee uh onto the practice squad. Uh hence they let go of Matt will let go yesterday. So I don’t know in house there is options and o overall the question is going to be you know does Ryan Kelly return and does he play at a high level but also you know that Ryan Kelly a little bit longer in the tooth sign a two-year deal he’s not going to be the center of the future and you got to find that out is it going to be Brle is it going to be Jurgens or should Quy make one of his patented patented uh trade deadline moves which I would kind of be okay with because since the Ravens are sort of selling I mean Tyler Linderbomb is one of the best young centers in the game the pride of Iowa and Linderbomb so they had to decline his fifth year option because it would have been like 20 million 22 million bucks but he is eligible for a long-term deal so the Ravens may be like ah we don’t want to pay it and then the Vikings be like give it to me payment Jackson Powers Johnson uh former second round pick out of Oregon it’s a new regime uh with the Raiders and if they don’t think that he’s going to be part of the future as well as former go for John Michael Schmidz where sort of uneven performance thus far um but also the Giants are sort of in freef fall. So maybe if if and when they lose on Thursday could be a spot where they start becoming sellers before the deadline. It’s possible. So especially with Linderbomb because if you’re looking for the center of the future Quy f them picks. Oh no, we didn’t load the graphic. Anyways, it was supposed to be the Quy F the VIX graphic. Yeah. Anyways, but of course, you know, trades are sort of pie in the sky, but you never know with Quy, man. But basically, Ryan Kelly fully healthy, good to go. Should be good in a couple weeks. But also, I don’t know, even when Jurgens gets healthy, I would honestly roll with Brle at center. as weird as that sounds, just still have Jurgens. Uh be the backup. Jurgens still has guard and tackle experience from college. So just use him as the swing backup, have Brandle at center, and Donovan Jackson left guard when he’s back and healthy, Will Fry right guard, and I don’t know, school Rouse a right tackle until O’Neal gets back. So that that’s the Patchwork offensive line coming out of the buy. And then finally week 10, it could finally be a spot where we’re at full strength. But of course, we’ll see. The entire point of this video, just trade for Tyler Linder, the lender bomb. That’s what it should be. Anyways, your thoughts, our thoughts. Center of attention. What are the Vikings going to do at the pivot? Let us know comment section. You guys, the best you know to do. Skull production value.

  1. Your the best channel as far as Vikings channel , I love what you do Andy great content . Do you think we should bring in Christian Wilkins on league minimum to help stop the run knows the Flores system due to Johnathan Allen play. And I think we should trade for Jackson powers Johnson

  2. I'll repeat what I said earlier today: Linderbaum plus Chris Jones/Dexter Lawrence>>>Championship Calibre in BOTH trenches for the next few years!🙏 But…would Kwesi A-M be willig to say "F them picks" and 'go for it' to get these guys?🤔
Here's my only concern with Blake Brandel: He has performed really well when asked to replace a starter on the O-line for several games, including last week's stint at Centre… however last year suggested that he has a difficult time being a starter for all 17 games. Brandel certainly has enough 'football intelligence' and sufficient athleticism to play most positions on the O-line at a pretty high level, but his body may not be up to a season-long grind.🤔

  3. Biggest difference in week 5 vs weeks 1-4, is KOC. He stuck to the quick offensive game except for a single series (three and out when Wentz got sacked and then injured on a 1 yard scramble). If KOC can resist going back to the slow developing pass plays, his offensive line and quarterbacks will continue to stay clean and uninjured. If he reverts, then defenses will just blitz since his scheme doesn't have any counters to relentless pressure and they will murder the line and QB. It is that simple.

  4. Gonna help getting Ham back to. We just need a center to stay healthy through entire games. They keep getting hurt by second drive. Throws everything off! Get healthy!! Let's go! Skol!
