Tigers rally back to take down Mariners, force winner-take-all Game 5 in Seattle | ALDS Game 4 Recap

baseball is just more fun when the Yankees are playing well and the Cubs as well. A big thanks to Snyder and to Amag here, but we actually have some breaking news and that is that we have a result in the Detroit, the Tigers came back from three zero to force a game. Five Tigers scored three runs in the fifth to tie things up, and then four runs in the sixth inning to give themselves a little bit of insurance. Game five is set to 4:40 p.m. Eastern on Saturday. You get Tarik Skubal set to start for the Tigers. The Mariners have not named their starter yet, so let’s go ahead and bring back in our guys Aimags and Snyder and Snyder. I’m going to start with you on this one. Who do you give the edge to in game five? It’s got to be Tigers, right? I mean, it’s pupils on the mound. I know the Mariners won that game, but it’s Tarik Skubal. He’s the best pitcher in the world right now. And he’s been really really good in these playoffs so far. He did give up the two solo home runs to Jorge Polanco which was amazing. But it was also probably an anomaly there. T-Mobile Park very pitcher friendly. Runs are going to be at a premium unlike they were in Comerica Park for these two games. So it looks like the Tigers are going to have the edge here. Doesn’t necessarily mean they’re going to win. The Mariners are much better team overall, but the Tigers have skubal. I love that we finally got skubal to this just elimination game five type of a setting. So I think that all of baseball and everybody, you know, fans and everybody is going to benefit from being able to watch this one. It’s unfortunate Brian Wu is not available on the other side. But you know, we’ll see what the Mariners come with. I think the biggest piece of this though, Detroit finally hit today. And if they bring those bats to that game five with Skubal on the mound, they are going to be tough to beat. Absolutely. All right. So you guys both seem to be buying into the fact that Skubal is on the mound and giving the edge to Detroit. So we don’t know who’s going to take the mound for Seattle. But is all the pressure on them or do you think it’s actually on Skubal because he’s the one that everyone believes in so much? We’ll start with you. Aimags. That’s a good angle. Actually, I don’t think that you’re you’re wrong in that sense. You know, when you look at school and facing Seattle this year, actually some of the starts weren’t incredible. You know, they did get to him. He had a solid start last time. Right. But I do think when everything is on your shoulders and everybody is looking at you as the ace of the staff and it’s like, it’s your ball, you’re going out there every single inning for us. There’s a lot of pressure on that. So one false move and the M’s could have that crowd right in it and kind of get to him there from that emotional side of things. So it’s going to be great to watch. I think from a betting perspective, you kind of still have to back Skubal here. You got to back the the Cy Young, but it’ll be a fun watch for sure. The Mariners got the by. The Mariners are a better seed. The Mariners are at home. They’re the better overall team. They had A21 lead. They had a three nothing lead in this game today to close the Tigers out. And then they blew that lead. Of course the pressure is on the Mariners. And again there is a lot of pressure on Skubal because so many I think either clubhouse will be able to say the pressure is on the other guy. Right? Right. Like the Mariners will totally say, oh, all the pressure’s on Skubal everybody thinks he’s going to beat us. And the Tigers will say, oh, the Mariners had us on the ropes. The pressure’s on them. So it’s it’s one of those things in sports where all the players say everybody believed in the other team, and it’s what motivates them. It’s a good sports thing. I think the pressure is probably high on both teams as I would like to advance. So it seems like both of you have more faith, at least from a betting perspective, on the Tigers here. So let’s say they do advance. How do they stack up in the next round, taking on either the Yankees or the Blue Jays? What do you think? Snyder not very good. I can’t lose a school start against either one of those offenses. And I the both pitching staffs can be gotten to. And even though the Tigers just scored nine runs, that’s really fresh in our mind. I still just don’t like that offense very much on a consistent basis. So if either the Yankees or the Blue Jays, I think they need to be rooting for the Tigers, especially because Skubal is going to start in game five so he can’t turn around and start game one, and maybe not even game two in the ALCS. If the Mariners win. I really, really like the Mariners against either the Blue Jays or the Yankees. So I think either the Blue Jays or Yankees should be pulling for the Tigers in this one. 100% agree, because you’re going to get Skubal in that game five. You’re going to push him back further in that next series. I think that that for the Tigers, it’s like, of course you’ve got to pull out all the stops to win this game to get through, but then it’s kind of a tough proposition after that. You know, moving forward, not being able to use your ace in game one and kind of have that maneuverability to use them again there later in the, you know, in the series is a bit tough. So at least in my opinion here, if you’re the Yankees or the Blue Jays, you’re kind of licking your chops. If you’re thinking about the Tigers, I think the Mariners are going to be a much tougher team to beat. But I do think, at very least for the Yankees, their lefty starters play much better agnst either

  1. Since 1995, the team that gets a road win in Game 1 of the Division Series goes on to win that series 73.9% of the time. In 2025, the Tigers won 3 of the 7 total games played against the Blue Jays. They won 4 out of 6 against the Yankees. Do with that what you will.
