Since Volpe became the every day starting shortstop in 2023, he is one of 103 players to get at least 1,500 at-bats. Of those 103 players he is last in batting average and on-base percentage, second to last in OPSc and last of all players not on the Rockies in WRC+

Forget starting shortstop, he cannot be on this team next year.

  1. Not to mention second in the American League in errors!!! Like what are we doing here!!!

  2. I think the fact that Volpe is a nice guy, has a good attitude, works hard, and is always smiling is blinding the Yankees front office.

I think they somewhat feel bad letting go of a “good kid” who tries hard and works hard and who they think still has potential.

He hit .210 in the regular season. He hit .195 in the postseason. It’s time to let him go.

  3. He’s Cashman and Boones son. Stats don’t matter. The only way he isn’t the starting shortstop next year is if Hal makes the boss call and makes Cashman trade him. It’s gonna be sunrise on the Mediterranean Sea soon so Hal will get the news the Yankees are eliminated in a few hours. Just gotta see what he thinks

  4. Cashman won’t admit he’s wrong and his hatred for Jeter will make him never give up on Volpe

  5. Problem is he’ll go on a tear and hit well and field amazing for a few weeks. He was hot the last month. But then all of a sudden he looses his mechanics at the plate and he’s an automatic out.

  6. Anthony Volpe statline in the ALDS vs. Blue Jays – 1 for 15 with 0 walks and 11 strikeouts.

  7. Get ready for months of puffing up Volpe from the front office. No way they make any change there.

  8. That list is long my friend:
    Bullpen can’t be the same
    Goone can’t be manager
    Trashman can’t be GM
    And…

  9. Yup no serious contending team can have him be our SS. And even during the year (even by the end of the year!) I heard some of you guys say we should just platoon Volpe and Cabby, and that there’s no better options. Nope. We have to be better. It’s like trying to win the NBA Finals and you’re running Frank Ntilikina has your 6th Man, or being a playoff team in the NFL but having Evan Neal starting in your line. And yes, it’s that bad. Unacceptable.

  10. I agree 100%. He should not be a starting SS on a team with championship aspirations. Bichette has had some injuries but I think he is a good fit and should be targeted in free agency. That said I fully expect Cashman and Boone to blame Volpe’s poor production on his shoulder and trot him back out there again next year.

  11. You’ll get the half measure of a half hearted *”competition”* in spring with cabellero and should caballero not hit .500 in spring, Volpe will be your opening day short stop.

  12. He should not have been a starter after the deadline. It’s insane they got 2 solid SS options at the deadline and Volpe continued to start. I hope they have the sense to end the experiment but they won’t. It’s Cashman’s ego now, not even analytics

  13. Man, Jomboy went scorched earth on Volpe being the SS next year…but also said the reason he’s so frustrated is because he believes they’ll throw him back out there next spring training.

  14. He seems like the kind of guy who needs a change of scenery. We’ve seen flashes of his talent, but he can’t really put it all together.

  15. Jose Caballero is everything we want Volpe to be. He’s a reliable, speedy, slick fielding scrappy player with a strong arm that disrupts opposing defenses. Why try to build Volpe into that when we already have that guy on the team?

Cabby should start at SS next year with Waldo and/or Rosario as backup until GLJ is ready in a couple of years.

Volpe should be traded for whatever we can get for him, he’s actually worth more than most Yankee fans think.

  16. what is the actual framework of this? would they just release him? send him down to the minors forever?

  17. This postseason was his season in a nutshell. He was good for 3games and shortly turned into a strikeout machine

  18. So obvious that Caballero should be the starting shortstop and leadoff hitter. They haven’t had a stolen base threat like him since Rickey Henderson. Put him at leadoff, Rice second, Judge third, Cody fourth, and G fifth. They need to stop relying on big innings and get somebody that can manufacture the single run when needed.

  19. It’s really astonishing how bad Volpe’s numbers are over his career. For someone with as many PAs as he’s had he is literally the worst player since the start of 2023 (players who are that bad typically don’t get that many PAs). Among Yankees with as many PA’s he’s a bottom 5th percentile by OPS. Quite literally one of the worst Yankees of all time.

Here’s something else: He has roughly as many career ABs in 3 years, if not marginally more, than the thoroughly unimpressive journeyman Austin Slater has in 7 years. Slater has bounced from club to club always on the edge of being cut and outrighted, and yet he has significantly better average and OPS over his washout career than Volpe has posted as a core member of a playoff squad. You can scrape the bottom of the barrel and trawl the waiver wire and still be hard pressed to find a worse hitter.

  20. I think he’ll get one more year…if he does the same then I think they give up on him.
They did give Gleyber time, we are only in year 3 for Volpe so, it’s not over yet.

  21. Its so insane we traded for someone who does his job better and still ran him out there. He plays like a September rookie callup fishing for his first every game and its just unwatchable. Cashman will keep him there because he doesn’t want to look like he was wrong

  22. Not to mention since July 1 including October he’s batting 191 with a 221 OBP. Sign Bo Bichette or use your starting pitching or outfield trade capital to pick up a real one.

Im annoyed I’ve wanted to dump him since 2023 when he still had value. He hasn’t made any improvement in 3 years. He’s the worst or second worst depending on metrics qualified player since 2023. We tried the experiment. Someone else might have better luck with a contact approach.

I like him he’s a really nice guy and he’s trying but he just isn’t cutting it. Some of it’s on him and a lot is on our system and the coaches and how they handled him.

  23. Watch- he’ll be on fire in spring training, win the starting job and then be a little better than this season, but still below average…

  24. It blows my mind how different the org will treat players based on what they think they *should* be rather than what they actually show on the field. Like Volpe and Oswaldo have had basically the same caliber of play. Volpe hits for more power, Waldo hits with more discipline and has more utility, but they’re generally in the same ballpark results wise. So explain how tf one of them has been the ride or die starting shortstop for three fucking years as soon as he was called up while the other is like a fringe bench piece. They are not that different yet the organizational stubbornness treats them worlds apart in ways that I feel only hinder both of their development.

  25. Hal S. is sitting back right now with a big smile. His team made the playoffs. That is all that matters to him. He will make his money and now he doesn’t have to be humiliated. He can keep everyone where they are including Boone and Cashman as they are simply his figure heads. Stop simping for a billionaire who has made it ultra clear – making the playoffs is his only goal. Winning isn’t.

  26. I know volpe blows but don’t forget his running mate Austin wells what do we do with him?

  27. If Boone is the manager, he shouldn’t be. If they go with a different manager, I could be ok with giving an actual baseball coach a chance to see if they can convince him to stop swinging like he’s chopping redwoods. That comes with the caveat of filling out other spots in the roster so he can safely hit 9th. If in a few months, it’s clear that its 100% on the player and not this joke of a coaching staff, then you re-evaluate.

Besides, unless you want to pay Bo Bichette, the SS landscape is pretty barren.
